Known cracked engine block issue by auto maker on some 2006-2009 models.
At 85,000 miles, my engine blocked cracked in one of the 4 spots identified by Honda engineers in their own service bulletin (10-048). My car has been garage-kept and religiously maintained in terms of service. This is a manufacturer's defect. My primary issue (as the original owner) is that I was never notified of this problem.
I am the 2nd owner of my 2008 Honda Civic currently with 65,000 miles. One day driving out of no where my car begins to heat with no warning no lights nothing. I had pulled over and turns out my engine block has cracked. I reached out to american Honda , this is a defect in all of there Honda Civics from 2006-2009. They did have an extended warranty for 10 years. Being the second owner I was never notified, I was only notified of a air bag recall which was fixed. I am only one year over the warranty with only 65,000 miles in which Honda refuses to replace. This is a defect on Honda's part which should be corrected.
Having a lot of problems, coolant leaking, when in park. Power steering, engine idles when in park and at a stop light. When passing on the brake the car idles so have to push really hard on brake. Passenger air bag light never turns on. Ac blows hot air then cold then hot again. The car makes a really loud noise from the engine and wants to go even in neutral or if my foot is on the brake. Windshield leaks when it rains, roof trip flaps all over the place. Passenger door locks will not unlock except if you manually push it. Head lights flicker and the growling noise from the hood is really scary.
After 120,000 miles I began to smell antifreeze. I took it in to a mechanic who said the engine block was cracked and would need to be replaced. This vehicle has been well maintain and should have last longer. I search the internet and found that tis was a common problem with Honda Civic from 2006 and 2009 and there was a TSB 10-048 from Honda. Since I purchased the vehicle second-hand I did not receive the information from Honda about the engine defect. They offered a 10-year warrenty but I have exceed this by 15 months.
Cracked engine block defect occurred one year out of 10 year warranty, well maintained car only owned for 1 year, overheats very fast does not hold coolant, was driving when the temp gauge went up I could smell coolant and see light smoke.
Cracked engine block at 107,000 miles. Engine drained of coolant, and then overheated on the highway.

Honda needs to be very considerate and make some type of exception towards what peope go through when they sell car that have a problem. I bought my car back in October of last year and I have had some issue every since. Back in feburwry of this I noticed that I was driving and my car started smoking I let it cool down and my car began to lose power. I took it to a shop who initially diagonosed it as a blown head gasket they told me it woul be $1500 to fix. I took it a Honda repiar shop who did several test and came to the final conclusion that block is leaking. I always thought that Honda was supposed to be the most relaible car. Please try to make some type of exception this is ridiculious.
While driving down the road smoke began coming from underneath the hood and I noticed the car was starting to overheat. I pulled over into a local bank parking lot and opened the hood to inspect the problem and it was a crack in the engine block that the coolant was seeping out of. TSB 10-048.
I have a 2008 Honda Civic with 50500 miles. I bought used a year and two mins ago. I bought it off someone I knew that had full maintence records. About a month ago I started having temperature issues with it slowly leaking cooloant. I took it to a trusted mechanic and he said I had crack in my engine block. I called Honda and that I was outside of the ten year warranty extension. They have a known defective issue with there engine block and they said I would have to pay 4000 to replace the engine. I found this ridiculous that a car with 50000 has a cracked engine block. I bought a Honda because they are supposed to be reliable. Never again.
I bought this car used in July 2018. Shortly after that the car ran hot. I took it to the mechanic and was told that the engine block had a crack and had to be replaced. I replaced the motor causing me $4257 dollars. The owner of bob morton garage told that she had been told by the Honda's representative that there had been a problem with the engines on the Honda Civic cars and for me to check it out. I was still having problems with the car spurting forward without warning, so they suggested that I take it to the dealership which I did. It was the idler causing problems. I asked one of the employee handling my car that morning if there had been any recalls or problems with the Honda Civic cars and I was told no. Then I went on the internet and found that there had been multiple complaints about the engine block cracking and having to be replaced. Since I have had to replace the engine, I need to know what to do now in terms of reimbursement.

Engine block crack at 107,980 mile. 3 months out of the extended warrenty. Honda took 3 weeks to get back with us. The good will assistance program argreed to pay 50% of the block repair. Cost for the block only was $2,200 withe the discount. The repair would have cost close to $6000 for the dealership to fix. Just wanted to file a formal complaint. Wasn't sure were to do this.
Seeping coolant from the engine ,small crack on motor behind alternator.
Engine block cracked, needs short block.
Car was found to have a cracked engine block which was part of a very quite recall not advertised. Never received any infomation on the recall. Luckily I was in a parking lot (in motion) when the car just died.
I purchased a 2008 Honda Civic in may of 2018. I brought it to a mechanic to make sure the car was in good enough shape to get me from massachusetts to montana as I had just graduated college and was moving for my first job. I was four hours into my trek when my car broke down leaving my mother and I completely stranded in the middle of nowhere in new york. We had to get the car towed and found out 3 days later it was a crack in the engine block (a very common problem in these Honda Civics). The reason the engine block cracked was because Honda used a cheaper metal. The dealership told us it would cost around $6,000 because the 10 year warranty ended. My mother and I were stranded for 4 days while we waited this out. I am thankful everyday this didn't occur in the mid-west of the country where there is no cell service as we would have been stranded with no food or water and no way to contact anyone. Honda put all of us Honda Civic owners in danger and they need to fix there mistake. Honda is putting anyone who buys an older car in danger.
Engine block crack leaking antifreeze and car won't go over 5 mph.
Technical service bulletin 10-048, I recently purchased the car, failed my motor vehicle inspection due to gasket issues. I found out the same day that there was a recall on the 2008 Honda Civic engines after getting my airbags fixed (due to a recall @Honda). I brought the car back to Honda today to find out if my car qualifies for the engine block recall, even if I just bought the car. I am waiting for a response from their corporate office about this matter, especially since this is a safety issue.
Vehicle has a cracked engine block due to a porosity issue as a result of poor manufacturing and qa practices.
Engine block cracked and leaking antifreeze. Just past warranty by 3 weeks. Known default but Honda won't cover it.
I bought this car used six days after I bought it and a free started leaking out took it to Honda and I find that it is a cracked engine block which they have extended an eight year warranty to 10 years unfortunately I bought this in November and the original purchase date was October so it's one month out of warranty and I'm out $3500. Honda says even if it was one day out they would not fix it when it is a manufacture defect of cheap metal and they know of this problem.
This is the last amount due this month for my vehicle and it was diagnosed with the engine cracked and leaking fluids. I was told all Honda models during the years of 2005-09 are effected by engine cracked. So I have a paid off car which I am unable to utilize and all engines are effected by it, if I do get another engine new or used.
My 2008 Honda Civic currently has 107,460 +/- miles on it and the engine block has cracked. The car was diagnosed by my mechanic. I then did some research and found this to be a common problem. Nhtsa ref# 10030876, TSB ref#sb-08-044 and service bulletin 10-048. Honda put a 10 yr extended warranty on the engines from the original date of purchase. My car was originally purchased on 09/27/2007. My car broke down on 10/02/2017, 5 days past the warranty period. Honda has refused to replace my engine block, giving no grace period on this warranty. This is a known problem and my car only has 107,xxx miles which is not a lot by today's standards. I believe this should be a recall item and furthermore Honda should have put a mileage amount on the warranty as well.
Motor mount failure. Causing excessive vibration and affecting handling of vehicle.
Replaced engine (cracked block).
Engine block cracked; Honda won't make good even though they extended warranty to 2018! never notified us; we had towed to our mechanic and had to pay out of pocket over $3100. So far. Was told it would have been done free if we towed to hond dealer/service dept. Who knew. Of course we would have had we known. Do they think we wanted to pay$ 3100????.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the engine cracked open directly underneath the engine block where the heads were connected. On 4 separate occasions (the most recent being 6/24/14), twice at highway speeds and twice while slowing down, the vehicle's engine has surged, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly move forward. On the two occasions it has occurred when slowing down, I was operating the vehicle. What happened was as I was coming to a stop (once at a red light, once in a parking lot), the rpm indicator unexpectedly shot up to approximately 2500rpm, the vehicle moved forward, and even though I had my foot on the brake, the unexpected increase in power made it difficult to stop. Had there been any vehicles in front of me in either occurrence, there may have been an accident. On the two occurrences at highway speed, my wife was driving, and she reports that the rpm indicator again went high and the engine was making a lot of noise.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving approximately 68 mph on cruise control, the vehicle accelerated independently up to 80 mph.
