There are hacks to cars that can control the computers remotely, possibly from devices such as programmable thingy remote control devices that can be programmed with different fuctions, or direct open door remote entry hacks into the vehicle port that remote control the cars functions.
While driving, the hood prop rod dislodged from its securing clip and fell onto the positive terminal of the battery. This caused an electrical short, which led to the rod heating up rapidly and igniting a fire under the hood. The fire damaged the headlight assembly and the surrounding trim panel, though the wiring fortunately did not catch fire. A nearby police officer was able to extinguish the fire before it spread further. This incident posed a serious safety risk and could have resulted in more extensive damage or injury. There were no warning lights or symptoms before the failure. The issue appears to stem from the design or failure of the clip that holds the hood prop rod in place. The vehicle has not been modified and was being driven under normal conditions. A local auto body shop inspected the vehicle afterward and confirmed that the loose prop rod made contact with the battery terminal, creating a serious fire hazard. They advised reporting this as a safety issue. The manufacturer has not yet inspected the vehicle. The incident was witnessed by a police officer, and the damage was evaluated by an independent repair shop following the fire.
The vehicle will shut off in traffic without any warning from the cars system. Unknown if there is any interference being caused by internal or external.
I have the same problem with the readiness codes on my 2009 Honda Civic 4dsd during my inspection this week, October 2022. This also happened in 2019 and I drove the vehicle between 250-300 miles before the codes reset. This time I have driven the vehicle the same amount and the codes have not reset. . Read more...
I am the second owner of this car when I bought it had 40k it's at 92k . . I have had to replace the engine mounts 2x now 3 if you consider the mounts on car when was manufactured :(.
The navigation system's clock automatically resets to Jan 1st 2002 4:00 o'clock and when you try to manually change the clock settings, it just immediately goes back to 12:00. This seems to have effected tons of Civic with the navigation system since Jan 2022.

Honda Civic years 06 to 09, engine block leaks no owner has been notified nor have the dealerships participated in notifying that person after purchase. Apparently hannah is aware of this. And has not contacted owners.
The a/c relay switch has been replaced several times and now I'm having to replace the actual ac switch on the compressor due to it bogging my engine down every time I turn it on and it still won't blow cold air. This has been a continued issue and I've seen a lot of post online about it. So why hasn't it been recalled or something done about it.
The weatherstripping around the windows has deteriorated.
I no longer own this car. I sold it to a junkyard 6 months ago. Please stop sending me recall notices.
Car roof paint in exchange color.
Leak in interior of the automobile which Honda service department (braman Honda) was unable to find after 7 hours of investigation. Leak is on both passenger and driver side. I have seen many videos on youutube describing interior leaks on Hondas. I would like to know if this is a commonly reported problem and if the car company can recommend a fix. Please help.
Driving into the sun and attempted to adjust visor it just dropped to hang in front of the drivers face blocking vision driver then forced to drive holding visor out way.
Broken sun visor. Goudy replaced passenger visor two three years ago but did not replace driver visor.
Takata recalli bought the car from the original owner around the end of summer 2016 the car is in good condition but has approx. 210,000 miles on it. I used the passenger visor 4/17/17 and now it wont stay up and I see its split. I went online to see how to fix it and I came across the class action suit in regards to the visor. I emailed Honda who called and told me the car is over the mileage and it will cost me approx. $180 to fix. Its really annoying and hampers the view with it laying down like that. I feel they should still fix the problem for free.
The clear coat has been flaking off of the roof of my car for approx 1 year. I have contacted Honda several times to get this resolved but I have been in successful. At first they said it was normal wear and tear. Now my car is no longer eligible for the manufacturer repair of the clear coat.
Tpms indicator is always on. Have taken to dealer to get service but they have said it's an electrical glitch cannot be fixed. This presents a safety issue if a real problem occurs not knowing when tires need adjustment.
While traveling down surface streets, I hit a bump and my already sagging flip visor dropped down and almost completely obstructed my view of the road. By the time I was able to grab and flip it back up, the cars in front of me had slowed significantly. I realize there has been a class action lawsuit for this known issue, however my VIN is ~800 above the highest VIN included. Honda is refusing to do anything to rectify this because the class action lawsuit was VIN-specific. I wouldn't ordinarily bother with this but this is a known issue.
The clear coat has worn away on the roof and will need to be repainted.
Defective sun visor recall this complaint involves the recall of the driver's side sun visor in 2009 and good for 7 years from that date. I had one visor, split apart at the top seam, replaced. The second visor not only split at the seam but came loose at the hinge and flew past my face while I was driving in April 2016. I had an appointment within the 7-year period but because I misread the warranty I kept putting off the replacement until after it expired. However, when I took my car to culver city Honda, service manager rue ayala told me Honda selected a 7-year window in order to replace the defective visors with defective visors to get rid of them. He said customers had come in as many as "three, four and five times for replacement visors. " he offered me a discount, which I refused. Why should my recalled part be as defective as the first one? the car should have come with a new and working part: that's what I paid for. My fear is the latest recall, the passenger side air bag, might also be replaced with a defective air bag. Sun visors are also matters of safety. They should not fly off the hinge past your face while you're driving. Fortunately, it did not strike my face. I have complained to Acura Honda, whose employees have given me the runaround since I began calling six weeks ago. I have been passed from case manager to case manager. I have asked to speak to a supervisor but have been refused. I have asked for the names of national and regional directors who oversee recalls, but have been told they are not allowed to give out that information. So much for good faith to a customer who has purchased two Hondas. Honda, in my opinion, has acted fraudulently regarding their bait-and-switch sun visor recall. I believe I deserve a new, non-defective sun visor at no cost to me. Please help. Ellen douglas 323/766-0000 ewd823@hotmail. Com.
Sun visors have both separated.
Clear coat on paint failed after 3 years. Sun visors failed after 4 years and 35k miles. Motor mounts failed at 5 years and 42k miles.
Splash guard is disintergrating. Also paint (top coat) on roof and top of trunk is badly deteriorated. These defects noted over time.
The driver side sun visor split and now hangs down obstructing my view. This is a know issue with 2009 and earlier Civics; however, my VIN is not included in the extended warranty as a result of the class action suit.
While trying to pull into an isle of a parking lot for the purpose of finding a parking space, the engine suddenly accelerated on its own and out of control spinning around, jumping a curb and crashing into a tree, and four other automobiles parked on the parking lot causing property damage to five automobiles including my automobile.
The horn stopped working a year or so ago. We replaced it and the replacement has stopped working.
Clicking sound coming from front right wheel when turning right or left.
The paint on the car is fading away and I have no clue why. I wanted to know if it would be free to repaint the car.
I purchased a new 2009 Honda Civic in may of 2009, at the same time I purchased Honda floor mats for my car. The driver side floor mat has two retention holes in it and is retained by two plastic hooks that are mounted on the floor. The holes in the mat due to normal wear and tear have ripped and now the mat slides under the gas pedal of my car, which causes acceleration problems with the car. I contacted Honda at 1-800-999-1009 about this safety concern (confirmaton number:n012014-05-2901759). They informed me that the car is out of warranty 3yr/36000 miles and they could not offer a resolution to replace the mat. This is a safety problem, which is similar to the Toyota floor mat problem from a couple of years ago.
While pulling into a parking space with foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle violently lunged forward into a block wall. The driver was unable to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. The driver was hospitalized for 2 days.
Paint and clear coat in areas from front to rear, on hood, trunk and on roof, is thin, peeling, spotty, or down to the metal. Took to the dealer and got no satisfaction. Said that even though many others have same problems it is not a covered issue. How is that possible when I have read so many of the same complaints! need it repainted.
Back on 3/30/13, I had my vehicle in for service, and my tps light was on, as it typically came on for tire pressure. I didn't think anything of it previously, as we would always just add air as needed. However, the tire pressure was lower than usual. So we have been monitoring it more closely. I live in new england and put 4 snow tires on around November and remove them around April. I purchased the 2009 Honda Civic as a left over in Jan 27, 2010. I purchased 4 blizzak snow tire in 1/10, 2 tires in 4/12, 2 more blizzak snow tires in 11/13, as they were worn, 2 more tires in 4/14 and will be purchasing 2 more blizzak snows this winter. I only have 45,244 miles on the vehicle. Recently, I have had an issue requiring the rear tires to be patched. On 5/22/14, the tps light was on, so I went to the garage on my way to work to get some air. On 5/23/14, the light came back on so I stopped again, they looked at the tires and found I had a leak, requiring a patch. In August, the same issue. The light came on, filled with air, only it didn't come back on until 5 days later. Stopped at the garage closer to my office and I needed 2 patches in both rear tires. One of which was patched 6 months ago. The light just came on again last week and while I was filling up with air (the psi was 27 in both rears as they should be 32), there was another Honda Civic behind me with the same issue. Needing airs and already had a patched tire. This is getting really expensive, as well as ridiculous! my father has a heart condition and I don't need to worry about faulty tires if in case of an emergency!.
Road noise becoming louder and louder along with vibrations being transmitted into the cabin. Checking the rear tires, the inner 1 1/2" of tread is much more worn and unevenly so than the balance of the tread. Same problem as I had on a 2006 Honda Civic.
My driver's side sun visor broke, causing it to fall down in my line of vision. It would not stay in the up position. Apparently this is a very common happening in the Honda Civic and at this point, needs to be fixed once and for all with a recall and real fix, other than simply replacement with another visor that is also going to break! it also appears from what I've read online that the problem is cheap plastic and heat. Yes, cars get hot in the summer, particularly if you lock them up as you should! Honda claims it's not a "hazard" but I can assure you it is!! I was lucky b/c my car is still under warranty but no doubt when it happens again (and it will) it won't still be under warranty.
