On 3 occasions over past 3 years we have had key/ lock/ ignition switch problems. Result: 1. Inability to start engine; 2. Unable to unlock driver side door; 3. Unable to open trunk. Latest repair on 3-28-06 consisted of replacing trunk lock tumbler and driver side door lock tumbler. Repair advisor verbally stated trunk lock tumblers were badly worn; door lock tumblers needed lubrication. We consider consequences of failure could be serious given circumstances at time of failure.

: the contact stated the doors would not unlock from the inside. When the button was pushed the latch would move up and down but the door would not open. The unlock button on the key fob was pushed multiple times and the doors eventually opened. This is an intermittent problem and the vehicle has not been seen by the dealership. Updated 4/19/2006 -.
The passenger side door and window mechanism is not working properly. The door can not be unlocked with a key, with keyless entry remote or from unlock handle on the inside of the car. The door will not stay unlocked even after turning key in key slot. The only way to open passenger side door is to insert key in key slot, turn key and pull door handle at the same time. The passenger can not open door from the inside. When opening or closing window, the window would get stuck. The window switch would have to be switched between open or close several times before window will continue moving. Both of these malfunctions are potential safety issues. What if the passenger(s) need to get out during an emergency?.

I have had numerous problems with my power windows in my 1997 Honda Civic ex. The windown will only go back up halfway and gets off track, it has been in the shop several times. I finally placed the window regulator and it worked for about a week and then got off track again. I am signle female and have to pay everytime to get it back on track. I have spent about $200. 00 on getting it looked at, put back together because I do a lot of travel with my job. I know two other people (models 2003 & 1997) who have simialr problems. A mechanic told me that the window regulator has a mal-function. I love my Honda and mechanically it has been a great car except for back tires locking up this past winter but I think that was due to cold weather. I plan to purchase another Honda but my window is an aggravation. I know so many with similar problems and was wondering if Honda has initiated a recall process or if there are any other recalls on that car/model. Thanks-lena.

All four door latches were loose. The driver door latch was so loose, it almost fell off. I had to tighten all four latches with the supplied toolkit. This seemed like a very serious problem to me.
Since I bought my Honda Civic 2001 in oct 2000, the door power locks will intermittenly get stuck. We then are trapped in the car. I've taken it to 2 different Honda dealers and neither have a solution. It's dangerous, and since Honda seems not to care, I'm hoping you can help. I even have records showing that I've taken my car to the dealers.
