My transmission locked while I was driving. I'm not sure what exactly happened. I was in the middle of the street. The transmission/engine was running but the car wouldn't move. When I tried to move the gear to park it made an awful whining noise. It wouldn't allow me to. Had to call the police, who stood by moving traffic until a tow truck came.

The vtec-e on my 1997 Honda Civic hx is not engaging at the proper times which is not only an annoyance when driving, but also a safety hazard when it engages at low speeds (which it should not do) in traffic launching you forward into the back ends of other vehicles. Has caused (2) rearenders.

I was shifting easily from 1st to 2nd gear at 15-18mph and approximately 3k rpm. My manual transmission failed at that time, and I lost power-- nearly creating an accident. The failure involved broken teeth of the countershaft and final (ring) gear. This type of failure has been documented previously in many internet forums, but perhaps not formally. Honda should have information about models experiencing such failure, represented by the number of transmissions / countershaft / final drive gears sold by their parts distributor. As a physician, I feel that Honda should recall these vehicles immediately to prevent serious injury & road hazards from this transmission failure-- raymond bernal, m. D.
The transmission on my 2001 Honda Civic, failed without warning. Luckily I was in my driveway and not returning from canada on the freeway at 70 mph as I had been a few days before. Had I lost all power in that situation, as I did in my driveway, the results could have been catastrophic, possibly fatal; for me and other drivers. I now, having researched online a bit, understand that this is a well known problem with this car. It's disgraceful that it has not been treated as a safety issue. My car has 67,000 miles on it.

My 2004 Honda Civic has the same acceleration problem as Toyota. Braking for a light or stop sign, the engine rpm is about 2000 and car is almost unstoppable. This is a random phenomenon, and is unpredictable. Contacted Honda but they claimed they never heard of this problem. This resulted in bumper damage twice.

Bought a 2007 Honda Civic in 2007. Took car in for maintenance at Honda dealership and was advised that I needed new tires, after less than a year. I replaced the tires and there was a vibrating noise and rumble,. Took car back to dealership they said that because I got new tires it needed an alignment and the noise would stop. Noise never did stop. Replaced the tires again about 6 months ago or less and was advised that we neeeded struts, wanted a second opinion so we went to the Honda dealership and they said that the controls arms were bad and we needed new tires. This was a week ago. We purchased a $1000 extended warranty with the car. We called the warranty people after having no luck with Honda of high point, nc. The warranty compnay said that Honda told them that they made the parts wrong. This is a manufacturing defect. Even if we are out of our warranty period they should still be liable because they made the part wrong in the begining. Had they advised us of the problem over a year ago, we would not have this problem. I ahve been reading several blogs and we are not the only ones having this problem. Honda refuses to replace the part. This should be a major recall! I guess if the arms break while we are riding down the highway and we crash and die, then Honda will do something about it.
