The manual transmission contains internal bearings that wear out very quickly. They cause a large amount of noise, and wear the transmission very quickly. The clutch release bearing grinds in the transmission during acceleration, and could cause the transmission to fail at any time. This could cause my injury. A dealer quoted me $2,000 to fix this problem. Honda should fix this problem for me; a transmission should not have failing parts at only 42 thousand miles.

I own a 2006 Honda Civic si, which I purchased new from dublin Honda in dubiln, CA in 2006. My car has always had a problem shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, even when it was brand new. It would sometimes "pop" out of gear unless I held the shifter for a moment after shifting. The car now has 67500 miles on it, and two weeks ago, the clutch/transmission abruptly stopped working. I brought it to sunnyvale Honda, who wanted to charge me nearly $1900 to repair the clutch. I declined, instead I brought it to a private mechanic who charged me $1140. The mechanic showed me that the pressure plate in the clutch had simply snapped in half, which caused the failure. However, as soon as I got the car back, it was apparent that the transmission had also been badly damaged as a result, and now the transmission grinds every time I try to put the car into 4th gear. As a result, I had to return the car to the mechanic, who estimates it may cost $2000 or more to rebuilt the transmission. I feel that this is unacceptable for a car with 67,500 miles on it, and it is a design defect that the pressure plate snapped. This particular car has a history of numerous complaints regarding a defective transmission, which Honda refuses to acknowledge. . Read more...

Purchased car new, complained about transmission grinding in 2nd and 3rd gear at appx 2k miles, at 5k they tore it down, problem continued, tore down again at10k, then continued. 3rd repair at 12k I was charged 1700. To fix, they claimed misuse, 4th repair at 15k costs me 2200, again misuse, and problem seems fixed, but only at 16k. Honda service bulletin 08-020 released 4/12/2008 addresses this exact problem and states is covered under warranty. I am perusing lemon law procedures currently, but am concerned about safety issue of transmissions blowing and creating a road hazard, oil on road, etc. There is still a huge oil slick on the street when it last broke.
Vehicle transmission gears will grind when shifted into second and third gears.

My transmission shoves the shifter out of gear after shifting into 3rd. My transmission also grinds excessively going into second at high rpm's causing bucking. I have spoken to the dealer about this and they seem to believe that there is no problem. I have had it pop out of 3rd traveling up hill, this causing my car to slow without brake lights in traffic (because I am not applying brakes), while I try to get it into third.
The transmission will not engage 3rd gear correctly and causes the transmission to grind and pop into neutral when you think you are in 3rd gear. This issue is dangerous and could cause a wreck. Honda denies the problem but there are several petitions online about this issue. This issue is the worst when it is cold out and the car is cold. It has been doing this since the car got to about 5,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic. The contact stated that when shifting into reverse, the transmission made a grinding noise. Transmission failure increased the risk of a vehicle crash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a technician replaced various components in the transmission; however, after the failure resurfaced. The failure mileage was 12000 and the current mileage was 71000.

Consistently grinds transmission when going into 2nd gear (manual transmission). Dealership says its ok and normal, but I know it is damaging my transmission. Even with perfect shifting at a high rpm shift, it will grind every time.

For almost 3 years and 38,000 miles after the defect was obvious, transmission has been shuddering, slipping, and grinding. When starting or breaking on a wet surface and the transmission slips, the car loses control.
