My 2002 Honda Civic that I purchased from the original owner as a commuter car two years ago suddenly had transmission failure. I have driven the car 30,000 miles over the past two years and have not had a problem. One day the car was placed in park while in a drive through with the engine running would not move when placed back into drive. None of the forward or reverse gears would move the car. I towed the car home and still looking for the fix. I thought the shift cable may have been the cause but that is not the problem as it is functioning at the shifter and at the transmission. Not sure if a shift solenoid is bad or if the transmission is shot. No warning, no erratic shifting, and no burnt transmission fluid. Very disappointed that this is a common problem with 02 Civics and Honda has turned I blind eye to a known problem.

Our 2014 Honda Civic has 37k miles on it and we were driving it on the freeway when it began to feel like the gears were slipping or not shifting. It felt like we were in neutral and couldn't get any power. It happened very quickly and there was no warning or check engine light. It was towed to a dealership. They discovered it was the transmission solenoid and it came "unplugged" and was leaking transmission fluid which resulted in low pressure and the transmission stopped working.

My 2000 Honda Civic was recently repaired due to a minor fender bender with a curb. The transmission was replaced as part of these repairs with a transmission from a salvage yard. While driving this vehicle, the check engine light came on and after a diagnostics test, the code p0240 continued to show up after being reset numerous times. This light turns on about three miles of driving after being reset. After researching this code and the handful of causes of it to appear, it is possible that some vehicles will not even be running due to it. The transmission is not shifting correctly around 50-60mph with just a delayed shift. The research I have done shows this code may be removed by changing the tcc solenoid, transmission and oil filter, but in most cases; replacing the transmission.

I want to file a complaint against Honda for making faulty transmissions in their Honda Civic year 2001. There are many complaints I am reading about people with the same problem I am having which is a p0740 fault reading that says torque clutch converter solenoid open and that clutch will not engage when vehicle reaches a speed of between 40-45 mph which is an unsafe condition and can cause a crash and ultimate transmission failure on the highway. I
bought this car used less than five months ago at mossey Nissan in escondido and they have not been very helpful in working with me to get this car fixed. I paid more money on the car than I should of because of deceptive business practices used to sell me the car by mossey of escondido. Please help!.

Was driving on the freeway when my 2001 Honda Civic jumped gears and shifted to a lower gear the check engine light came on and drastically reduced my speed had to maneuver off the freeway exit out as soon as possible and managed to drive it to a mechanic nearby which said I would have to take it to a dealer to fix it. When I took it to the dealer they told me I would have to wait until the light came back on so driving on the freeway it happened again this time took it to the dealer and received the code po740. Doing research online I found out this was common in Civics and some accords and that 2001 was the worst. Honda has been using faulty transmission and solenoid parts and has caused problems for many owner that seems to cause problems and not allowing to shift into third gear and allows it to redline. Indeed no problem occurs when not driving to shift into third gear at about 3500 rpm but this causes a problem when the need to accelerate quickly or driving uphill is required, luckily I was able and traffic on the freeway wasn't heavy when this occurred that allowed me to exit quickly but if this had caused me to shift down it would've been dangerous and caused a hazard to me and other drivers. Please look into this as no recall has yet to be made even though the multitude of people with this problem.
I have bought Honda Civic 2001 in Jan 2001 from goodson Honda, houston, TX. After one year I moved to the canada and informed the company. They acknowledge the receipt of my move letter. All the repairs have been done by dealers so far in us and canada. Here in canada company covers all Civics for up to 60000 km for transmission. In January 06 after oil change and air filter replacement my car started making strange noise at startup, I took it to the dealership who said its a transmission problem. I took to the transmission shop who said there is nothing wrong. Since american Honda claimed and instructed customers not to change transmission oil until 80000 miles, I never thought about transmission problem at that less mileage. 1998 Honda Civic ex w/ 55,000 miles. Vehicle began shifting harshly @ 53k. Brought to dealership, reported dtc p0730. Dealer recommended replacing automatic transmission for over $4000. Found TSB 00-012 which recommended flushing transmission & replacing linear solenoid. Followed TSB recommendation. Helped for 2 days but problem returned. TSB 00-012 suggested Honda might offer goodwill consideration for cars out of warranty. I asked dealer to split the cost with me which I have heard has worked for some other people with this same problem. They referred me to centralized Honda cust srv which denied my request. Meanwhile I have found the following information on several transmission rebuilder sites regarding my transmission model (b4ra):
"common complaints in the a4ra, b4ra, and m4ra transmissions are harsh upshifts, downshifts and forward engagements, while reverse engagement is fine. These problems can be caused by a broken cpc (clutch pressure control) valve spring. The spring is located in the secondary valve body, and not available from Honda. Sonnax has developed a replacement spring 88894 that has a wire diameter larger than the oem design. This significantly reduces the stress on the spring, preventing future breakage. "
to me, this suggests that this model of Honda transmissions contains a faulty part, resulting in much higher than normal transmission failures. I believe that Honda should stand behind their products & extend the warranty for the automatic transmissions affected by this problem & not just provide random goodwill assistance to a select few who complain the loudest. Honda's denial that this is even a problem (even though there is a TSB identifying a huge group of potentially affected cars & transmission rebuilders have seen the problem so often that another company has actually seen fit to create a better replacement part) has turned me from a virtual Honda evangelist to a very dissatisfied customer who would be hard-pressed to purchase another Honda.

Transmission doesn't shift properly vehicle slips while driving causing the rpms to go up. Dealer said nothing wrong would not put on computer went to them 3 times same complaint same reply went to aamco transmission they put on computer said there was a problem, went to auto repair shop they found a code bad solenoid took to dealer 4th visit they replaced a solenoid problem still there. Cant sell car driver too bad so im stuck. All this occurred before warranty ran out now warranty is out. Transmission does this every time it gets driven.
While shifting the gear in reverse the car went forward, and when I shifted it to drive, the car went backward. When I stepped on the gas pedal lightly, it accelerated really fast and when I lightly step on the brake, it abruptly stops. The Honda service department is trying to fix this car. The first problem reported was the "power switch" secondly they reported that it's a "transmission" but still couldn't figure out if what else is the problem. Lastly, they notified me on April 19, 2001 that the problem is the "transmission solenoid. ".
