Failure Date: 02/27/2021

Vechicle was traveling at 50 mph on a country backroad when engine revved to 4. 5k rpm. Warning lights came on, on dashboard. Then the car started to shake. Got the car home and looked under the hood to find that transmission fluid cap had not been where it needed to be and was sitting next to the hole. Had to towed to the dealership where they told me I'll need a whole ne transmission when the car is under 86k miles.

Tl the contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving, the transmission and check engine warning lights illuminated and the vehicle started to shake and independently decelerate. Additionally, while accelerating the vehicle was skipping gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the transmission failure was due to a faulty cvt skipping or an egr valve and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Failure Date: 09/11/2019

My car always grinds going into second gear I actually can't downshift into second gear if I'm trying to come to a stop because it grinds really bad will not even enter second gear from a downshift sometimes so it requires me to come to a complete stop and start in first gear I reported this right when the car was new at 5k miles it did it from day 1 but they said nothings wrong but I've had manual transmissions in the past I know this is not normal.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/09/2018

The car has a known issue as told to me by Honda dealer with the pressaure player springs failing causing loud grindr noise. It happens when taking off in first gear on these cars. It is consistent with all 9th generation Honda Civics forums list the problem as a pressure plate. Honda is attempting to charge 2800 to fix a plroblem they know is with a flawed part. When sitting in first gear and you let the clutch out the car memakes a grindr noise. One Honda forum list over 52 pages of people addressing having this issue.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/18/2018

All of a sudden the car started shaking, it felt like I had a tire blowout. It was a good thing that I was slowing down for a turn and no traffic behind me. I pulled over and checked out the tires and they were okay. When I tried to accelerate again the car just jerked with a big clunking sound and then it stopped all together. I was stranded with a dead car. The car would not move at all and it only had 61,00 miles on it!!.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

Noticed a shudder with vehicle during 1st week of purchase. Thought it was a little weird since being a new car. Assumed that it was an isolated incident with regards to break in of vehicle. 2nd week of ownership on my way to work, noticed the shudder multiple times during stop and go traffic. This shudder later transitioned into a knock or pinging of some sort while jerking and accelerating on its own without any driver input. Very scary at this point. . . Got off the freeway and parked then turned the vehicle off. Upon start up, vehicle still idling violently. Had to get to work so just braked most of the way and drove with added caution. After work, car behaved normally on my way home with econ and air con both off. Shudder is still present to this day during light to moderate acceleration at 30 - 40 mph. I am fearful of using the econ and air con together as this worsens the problem. Honda and the public needs to know about this.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I was driving my car on highway at 60 mph and suddenly I felt jerk and car was shaking. It was very dangerous to drive. Suddenly engine light was on. Next day I took my car to my mechanic he told me it is problem with transmission. Soi took my car to transmission repair shop. The guy told me that transmission is failed, you can not drive the car. He told me Honda has problem regarding transmission, so I called to Honda and filed a complain, but they said we can not do anything. You have repair yourself.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

Transmission has to be completely rebuilt after 105000 miles approximately; mechanic told me he could estimate how much longer I have if it was something that he saw more often, but this isn't something he sees often. The vehicle would run heavy, and I was told an engine mount was bad and was subsequently replaced under warranty. There is still a tendency for the car to vibrate and shake as I drive between 17-30 mph, and attribute this to the issue of the transmission. The vehicle also does not shift well, and clicks on certain shifting points. Dealership stated the car is outside of the powertrain warranty, even though this issues started prior to the end of that warranty.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

My wife came to a stop at our security gate, used the remote for the gate but it wouldn't open. She backed up about 15 feet to turn around. When she put the car in drive, it lurched forward back towards the gate and wouldn't stop when she applied the brakes. It didn't speed up and it wouldn't stop. The car was making a grinding noise as it moved along. She was jamming on the brakes and it still went right through the closed gate, pushing it open as it went. It kept going for another 40-50 feet until she thought to pull on the emergency brake. The car stopped. She turned the car off and got out, badly shaken but not injured. After calming down, she got back in the car to see if it would start. It did. She drove it two more blocks to our house. She hasn't driven it since. She's terrified it will happen again.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Car started at usual time around 8 am and started vibrating. A very loud exhaust noise started to begin and the car began shaking. The vibrating noise was so loud and everyone in the car could feel the vibration. The front steering wheel as well as the seats were also shaking. Vibrating continued throughout the day and was gone at times when this first began but as days went by it became louder and more obvious by others outside of the car. The car now continues to vibrate not only in the morning but at all times of the day. It shakes at park, drive, and reverse. Car is very uncomfortable to drive and the noise can become very distracting. The car also vibrates so much during these times that I am afraid that something will happen on the highway and am worried about this. Honda dealer will not cover this under power train warranty because the car is now passed the warranty for power train which is 5 year/60,000 miles. Please look into this matter. It seems very common as I researched online and many people are having this issue on their Honda's which most seem after the 2005 models, more common around 2007 + 2008 models.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/03/2011

My daughter has 2002 Honda Civic and engine light came on while driving - it then started with grinding noise and car would then not go over 15 mph. She was able to get car into parking lot before it died - I was able to start back up but did same thing to me. I then looked upknown Honda Civic problems and there were 160 complaints here with similar problem with 2001 and 2002 transmission failures while driving. In my estimation this is a very serious problem which can easily result in accidents injury or even death. It does not just gradually happen but just appears with most of the stories I have read on-line. I feel Honda should be responsible to correct this problem since most people like myself do not have $2400 to $3600 laying around to fix and possibly happen again.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/03/2011

Honda Civic hybrid 2003 with cvt transmission, it shudders and vibrates entire car when accelerating slowly. Also in neutral it hesitates going in reverse. I am requesting a recall as I see many having this problem on the web. Honda claims the car has no problems and that is the engine lurking forward.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/17/2010

Our standard 2008 Civic ex (bought June 2008) started to have variable vibration/shuttering issues from idle/stop to 1st and 2nd gear around 28,000 miles (new Civic, we are the only owners, no accidents). The shuttering stopped after the car was in higher gears. This vibration issue worsened and we could not safely accelerate the vehicle when shifting from an idle position into 1st gear - due to extreme vibrations, which became more frequent. We took the vehicle to the dealership around 35000 miles on November 17, 2010, to determine/correct the shuttering/vibration issues. The dealership indicated they could not replicate the issue and returned the vehicle. The shuttering/vibration continued and we decided to replace all of our tires at our cost around 40,000 miles to see if this would correct the issue. The vibration/shuttering continued at variable times. At 41,000 miles, the vibration/shuttering became impactful and we could not safely accelerate from an idle position without the car shaking/not engaging effectively. We took the car into the dealer again on February 3, 2011 and the technician replicated the issue with us in the car. They indicated they looked at the vehicle motor mounts and "looked" at the clutch (not inspected). They said nothing was wrong with it and it was due to the way we drove the vehicle, even though their technician replicated the issue. They said Honda does not have any recommendations for this issue via the phone technical line. We did not take the car back due to safety concerns and it is still at the dealership. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle, as it will not engage/accelerate properly without shuttering when shifting from idle into 1st and 2nd gear.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/27/2009

I just bought this new Honda Civic 2009 lx sedan, and after driving for few weeks, I started to hear some kind of noise in the car. Its coming from the right passenger side. And after I took it to the shop, they told me, it might be the change that I have in the car, so I took out the change and started drive again, but it didn't work, I still hear the noise. I didn't have time to go back and ask them to fix it again. The other problem is the transmission, one night when I try to park the car, the car started to shaking when I pull it to the reverse mode, then I tried few more times, its the same with d mode. I was mad and was about to drive it to the dealer, but the next day when I ready to drive it, the shaking was gone. When I took them to the shop, the dealer inspect it and says there is no problem, they want me to drop the car there for two days, so they can go into deeper inspect, I refused, because I didn't have time and I needed the car for work.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/16/2009

I got a new Honda Civic ex 2007 sedan and performing all the regular needed maintenance and wheel rotation. After driving 20,000 miles, I felt shaking and vibration of the car with lots of noise coming out of the car. I brought my car to Honda dealer; the technician checked and informed me that, the wheel cups are unevenly worn due to the defective wheel control arm and improper wheel alignment. Dealer said he fixed the wheel alignment and replaced the defective wheel control but mentioned that the noise will continue till the wheels wear evenly (approximately 2months). I drove again for four months with that noise and vibrations, I didnt see any change and in fact the noise has been increased. I brought the car again to dealer and technician verified and said, I need to replace all 4 tires in order to get ride of that issue. I filed a compliant to Honda customer service claiming that, the wheels has been premature wear of tires due to the defective wheel control arm from the manufacture. They took week time and informed me that, the tires were not covered my Honda warranty and they could not help on this. I argued with the manager who handled the case, the life of the tires was reduced to half because of the defective part from the car,. . No use. .

20 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2003 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

For several years now my car has been vibrating and jolting when I accelerate from a stop. Especially when going uphill. I took it in to a Honda dealer for repairs and was told the only solution was to "burnish" it and it should help, although only temporarily. The burnishing helped only slightly, and before long my car was back to vibrating and jolting just as badly as before. I was told this was not a hazardous condition, so I have just lived with it for awhile now, but it would be nice to fix! it seems this is something that Honda should address if it is in fact such a common condition and has been addressed overseas. Please help convince Honda to address this problem!.

I just bought this car from the dealer last week (96 Honda Civic with 140,000 mi). I noticed right away that when I press the gas, it revs up a little and catches. Basically, its choppy when I press onto the gas and it sounds like the common recall. It seems dangerous bc it shakes the vehicle a bit.

Manual transmission jumps while driving also does not want to go into second gear. Makes wierd grinding sound while driving slow. Car shutters and shakes violently while in 5th gear in excess of 70 mph. Car shuts off by its self( was told VIN not in sequence for ignition recall). Right front springs sticks and some times makes a ( " boing" ) sound. Car keeps pulling to right even after alignment. When heater or defroster are on they make a loud chirping sound. On cold or rainy days steam will pour out of engine compartment smelling like radiator fluid. Was in 2 minor accidents one front end colision one rear end colission both about 30 mph and air bags did not deploy. Engine is becoming rusty and coroded. Drivers power window is slow to go up and front seat belts will not retract. Engine light comes on and car loses power and gas mielage. Goes offf when gas tank is filled. Car has been to dealer numerous times for Honda scheduled service and also while it was under warranty. All the problems adressed above were told to dealer who said they could not find a problem. . But they sure did when my warranty expired. Now they will not fix anyhting unless I pay for it.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 1998 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

My 1998 Honda Civic ex (80,000 miles) is having tranmission troubles. It will rev up but the car will not speed up very well, when it shifts into 2nd gear the car shakes and abruptly shifts into 2nd gear. I had the fluid changed at the end of December and it seemed to fix the problem but a week later it was back and getting worst fast. The dealer told me I needed a whole new transmission and it would cost $3600 plus labor. I took the car back without the service down and searched the internet and have come across hundreds of people posting complaints of the exact same problems, some of them have 2002 with 10,000 miles and have these problems. I find it hard to believe that this is not a factory defect.
