I was driving my car on antioch rd. Crestview, FL and had stopped at the stop sign to jump onto p. J. Adams rd. When traffic permitted I tired to pull out the car lunged forward a few feet putting the hood area completely in the road when the d light started flashing and the car stopped moving . The motor reves up but the car wont move. I was almost hit bye a semi truck . After replacing att sensors the d light is still flashing and the car wont move . I have exqhausted all repairs that I can do and was forced to scrape the car because it was my only way of going and after spending almost 1000bucks was still unable to fix this car. Its very dangerous in the fact that I could have been hit and killed due to this unexpected and sudden shut down with no warning.

My air bag light constantly stays on. No codes come up when auto repair shop hooked it up so I can't even get a diagnosis and attempt to repair. The safety hazard aspect worries me immensely but it's my only vehicle so I'm forced to drive it regardless. All available recalls have been performed. My car hesitated to accelerate after I put it in drive or reverse when I'm at a complete stop. The transmission also hesitates to switch gears to accelerate at a normal rate to safely merge onto a road or interstate whether I'm stopped first or turn right in at a low speed and attempt to merge.

When pressing gas pedal into passing gear the car stays in passing gear. Tachometer shows 5000 rpm as if engine is is speeding up but car slows down when I take my foot off gas peddle and and car sounds like transmission is stuck in lower. Gear. This has happened 2 times. I pull the car off onto side of road and shut car off after approximately 19 minutes I restart car and car goes back to normal driving. Happens on highway. The problem sounds like it's the transmission.

I drove this 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid took my baby honestly from the shopping market. It was just at the right turning corner, the vehicle suddenly lost power to move, I immediately press the emergency button, got out off the vehicle let other autos passed me ahead by the side way. Later some kindly guys help me pushed the car to a parking lot near by. The transmission was out of work. After my friend help me took baby home, the vehiclel was towed back. Glad is not on the highway. It only just passed 100k miles. The transmission fluid was good, output speed sensor is ok. I think not only me have this quality problem. It is too dangerous for us without a sign.
My cars steering wheel locks up and car stalls when the 12 volt battery constantly dies at red lights and on the highway.

In the last two weeks I've had two instances where I was attempting to make a left turn at a green light and had to yield to oncoming traffic. However, when the next oncoming vehicle appeared to be far enough away and at a safe distance, I attempted to accelerate and make the turn and my hybrid system a. K. A. Honda's ima (integrated motor assist) would randomly fail to engage, leaving me with almost no acceleration power. It felt like I was driving a lawnmower. The engine would rev up, but the vehicle would not proportionately accelerate. The vehicle is almost impossible to drive uphill in downtown tacoma, wa as it starts rolling back even with accelerator pedal depressed all the way down. I contacted the dealership and was told that although there was a sb-10051509-6014 issued for my specific model, which in effect extended the warranty and my VIN fell under the specified criteria, it was cancelled due to a salvage branded title (a fact I didn't not notice until after I had purchased the vehicle from a private party). This isn't simply a warranty issue. This is in effect a safety issue as the driver is unable to remedy the situation in an emergency. The risk is significantly increased by the fact that the driver making the left turn is facing oncoming traffic which is coming towards the vehicle in full speed. Should a child be present in the rear seat, if the driver is unable to complete the left turn and vacate the intersection in time, the collision could prove fatal, especially since the hybrid battery pack and the high voltage wires are all connected right behind the rear seat.
Hello, we have this Honda civic 2004 hybrid with cvt transmission. The car has around 68k. There is a recall for this type of issues but Honda says there they are not longer are responsible for that. The repair now cost more than the vehicle. Is there anything you can help me with about this issue?.

When driving at 50mph on a national highway 95s heading to philadelphia around 11am,the speed of the car suddenly reduce to 20mph and then stalled and stopped moving. I had to pull aside to check the engine. After some thirty minutes of rest,I had to return home with an idea of getting the car checked by the dealer. The dealer reorted of having no problem in the engine and I had to take the car back and running as carefully as possible without using for a long trip. I had some dents due to other driver with rash driving and hitting the car. I need to get the dents fixed as soon as the present winter season turns feasible for easy running.
My 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid is experiencing a shudder with momentary loss of power upon acceleration from a stationary position. Vehicle has been taken to Honda dealership for a clutch burnishing procedure. This temporarily fixed the problem for approximately 3000-4000 miles. Problem has returned and has become a safety concern as there is momentary loss of acceleration power during the shudder event. Dealership insists on charging for another burnishing procedure though it is outlined in a technical notice. This shuddering happens upon every acceleration from a stationary position. It is not intermittent and can be felt every time I accelerate.
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid transmission issues at only 115,907 miles have been a huge problem with this company. I just had to be excused from my shift of where I perform law enforcement duties so I could pick up my wife and two teenagers from the car that has been the bane of my existence and the bane of others' as well from what I have read in the umpteen different forums and sites across the world. Asia did it right by treating their people and Honda owners right by recalling their transmissions across the board due to the lack of performance and durability in the cvt powertrain. This vehicle left my family stranded along a very busy highway after having to coast to a stop from the far right lane because the transmission stopped accelerating while operating perfectly fine at 70 mph. Then we had to wait along the highway for an hour before a tow truck could come and pick up the car and tow it to the nearest Honda dealership which I'm it will cost an arm and a leg to get this fixed! in town it sounds like it's always mad as it shutters on take off and slow rolling accelerations making it a bit harry to get into traffic or get through an intersection of any kind. The car also jumps or surges forward while stopped at intersections as well. Not cool when you have your teenager operating this. I'm just glad she is Smart enough to stay on the brakes! not to mention that the ac sucks during days it gets to 90 and 100 degrees here in kansas. Who puts a rubber belt in a transmission any way. Get this fixed!!!! if you will not get it fixed, you will lose yet another customer!.
For no reason whatsoever the transmission is no longer working and apparently there is "shrapnel" everywhere- according to the mechanic. A total loss in that it costs twice as much as the car is worth to find a new transmission. We are out $800. 00 for the mechanic to tell us this news- for he had to take the transmission down to inspect it. A new one would be $4880. 00. Could've caused a major accident or death, had this occurred on the freeway 5 minutes earlier! not funny Honda! after looking up similar incidents online- I'm grateful we're alive.
Erractic power on starting from a stop. The ima system says it has assist power but the car starts moving "very" slowly and then drains the ima lights down to nothing. The car continues to accelerate slowly for a while until the gasoline engine starts to to take effect and getting up to speed, very dangerous in traffic. At other times the ims indicator is erratic on the dash but the system is okay. The lights will be full up and suddenly drop to nothing and a few minutes later it's full again. I had joe morgan Honda check it out and they even road tested it with instruments attached and it checked out okay (quote from tyler the service rep. Of joe morgan - 10-13-2015). All experiences were on flat ground dry pavement and good conditions. There were conditions when I experienced the slow acceleration on a grade (small like 5-15% maybe) and the results were even worse.
While driving car jerks and jumps from start. Car has stopped in place and had to be restarted. Car is dangerous to operate. Cvt transmission has always been a problem.
Vehicle fails to accelerate and shuts down as moving through intersections. This has nearly caused a crash. This has happened several times believe it has something to do with the batteries, engine and transmission. The batteries fail to drive the electric motors, the gas engine does not engage and for some reason it will shut completely off. Took it to the dealer they said they could not detect a code or duplicate the issue. This issue has been well documented on many sites (including this one). There is a recall on the batteries but Honda does not want to change out the batteries. This needs to be a forced recall before people get hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. The vehicle failed to regain acceleration and was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that a new or rebuilt transmission was needed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.
This problem has existed for several months. The problem is that the car suddenly does not have power when starting from a stopped condition. At the same time the indicated drive battery level drops and the dashboard indicates the gas motor is charging the battery. After maybe 30 seconds the reduction of power is less. There seems to be some reduction in power until the drive battery is mostly charged. During this time it appears that the electric assist is not working. Have also observed during this several month period the gas mileage is reduced. The problem is more likely to occur after the car has sat without running for a few hours. The hazard here is that this has occurred when pulling into traffic. When it occurs even pushing the gas pedal to the floor does not have much effect. Have been lucky not to have been hit by another car. Took the car to the dealer. The dealer installed new software that has helped the problem, but not eliminated it. Will continue to pursue with the dealer. Noticed that others seem to be having the same problem, I suspect it is related to a design problem with the hybrid powertrain. Am not convinced they will address this dangerous situation.

Certified Honda service locations would suggest replacing the entire transmission at a substantial cost this issue has notable safety hazards as it limits drivers' abilities to accelerate at low speeds, particularly to avoid a collision. This issue should be investigated as it still impacts many vehicles on the road in the us. I tried to trade this car in for a newer Honda civic and they degraded my cars value due to the transmission issues. I did not make the defective part they did and want me to pay for it. This is wrong for Honda do consumers this way.
I have tried on several occasions to have Honda honor its service bulletin to 'fix' the judder/slippage issue described in service bulletin TSB 07-049. Just like other complaints made here and on other forums online, the procedure that Honda America prescribes does not fix this problem. Most certified Honda service locations would suggest replacing the entire transmission at a substantial cost or continue driving with this issue until power train failure. This issue has notable safety hazards as it limits drivers' abilities to accelerate at low speeds, particularly to avoid a collision. This issue should be investigated as it still impacts many vehicles on the road in the us.
Upon acceleration, the transmission judders violently. I have had TSB 07-049 done twice which is suppose to fix the problem, but the judder returned shortly after both TSB's were done. I have also had multiple transmission flushes preformed and it has been using Honda's new cvt fluid sense it was available. Honda extended the warranty for the judder problem, but never issued a recall for this problem. Dealer told me that I need a new start clutch which I refuse to get because I will be paying up to $1,000 for the same defective part! an investigation and recall should be issued for the transmission's start clutch. I am tired of having to go to the dealer and have these so called "band aid quick fixes" done to the start clutch. This is a well known problem among all 1st generation Honda hybrid owners and it is a serious safety issue that deserves a recall.
Transmission judders/slips when accelerating. Had clutch kit replaced less than 2 years ago and 20,000 miles and same problem is back. Very dangerous when slippage occurs, as car doesn't always move when accelerator is pushed.
The transmission in my Honda Civic Hybrid has had the same shudder/judder issue that many others have experienced. You have to take off extremely slow to keep it to a minimum and it still shakes and judders. It is obvious there is a sever issue with these cvt transmissions and many people are having the same exact issue. My Civic Hybrid started this issue a long time ago and Honda said just change the transmission fluid but that only helps for a small amount of time. Very dangerous going through intersections.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle exhibited a loud banging sound as it accelerated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000.
We were driving along the freeway around 8:30 at night at about 70mph in the fast lane when the transmission suddenly stopped working. We had to coast over 3 lanes of traffic to pull into the emergency lane. My husband was driving, I was the passenger, and our 4 month old newborn was in the backseat. It took an hour for us to get a tow and a ride home. All the while I feared for the safety of my family, as it was quickly approaching dark. After some research on the internet, I found that I am no the only one that has encountered such a problem with the '03 Civic Hybrid cvt. Apparently, Honda issued an extended warranty that would cover it for 7 years up to 100k miles. Unfortunately, I just bought this car a year ago, so I am well outside the extended warranty limit. My complaint is that there should be a safety recall on this vehicle. There were no warning signs that this would happen. We were just driving along, and there were no sounds or anything. By not having a recall on these vehicles, Honda put my little family in an extremely dangerous situation.
Transmission shuttering.
The transmission is "failing" according to the dealer. It could fail this week, or next month. Even though there are only 126,000 miles on it, and I have done all the required timely maintenance on the car since I bought it brand new, the dealer said this just "happens" sometimes to these cars. In searching for information I have found several forums with other Honda Civic Hybrid owners discussing the failing transmission problem and the fact that Honda will not address the issue. Or admit fault. . Read more...
This vehicle has a slipping in the cvt (transmission) at lower speed and when coasting.
Tried to accelerate on to the highway, the vehicle judder and slipped. I could not gain enough speed to get ahead of traffic and other car's almost collided with my vehicle. This is a common dangerous occurrence when driving the car. Honda is aware of issue and refuses to repair.
When pulling out onto a busy 55 mph highway from a side street, my car unexpectedly was unable to provide any electrical propulsion from the hybrid motor. The hybrid battery state of charge indicator was at 6 out of 8 bars of battery level while waiting at the stop sign, but when the demand for electrical assist was given, the battery level immediately dropped to 2 out of 8 bars and provided little or no hybrid motor assist. My vehicle struggled to accelerate up to speed of oncoming traffic, even with the accelerator pedal depressed all the way to the floor (wide open throttle). Luckily, the oncoming traffic was able to react quickly enough to avoid a collision, but I do not feel safe putting myself and other motorists at risk like this. This vehicle was never designed to operate solely on the gasoline engine, as it is under-powered by design and dependent on assistance from the electric motor. The car has since had several occasions where the battery level has unpredictably dropped and lacked hybrid electric assist. My main safety concern arises not only from this lack of propulsion from the designed manufacturer's specifications, but in the unpredictability of to what magnitude the acceleration is affected. Usually the vehicle operates correctly and is able to provide at least some electric assist, as predicted and intended. However, it is the rare and unpredictable occasion that it does not that could lead to a serious accident.
Had ima failure (2009) where vehicle wouldn't exceed 20 mph. Parked vehicle, required jumpstart & but was towed home ~25 miles. Jumped car again w/ no ima; drove 2 los gatos Honda. Ima trouble fixed; explanation not specific. Unbeknownst 2 me, other drivers had same trouble & Honda was (hearsay) aware of it. Never received recall notice 4 driver window (fixed same visit) or recall 4 rear susp. (found out about 3-yr old recall by a blog back in February 2012). Honda performed battery "fix" that was 2 make car better, it hasn't. Car has refused 2 auto-stop & has gas engine power (significantly < the gas only hc) only 4 many months as charging/discharging of ima battery has been erratic. Every day state-of-charge (soc) goes 2 two bars w/in a 1/2mile = no auto-stop or ima assist getting on2 freeway. After 3-4miles, ima back 2 7-8 bars & will be back down 2 < 4 bars & no ima assist again once or twice more on remainder of drive home. This never happened pre "fix", never! have 2 teenagers who drive car on occasion & also my wife & 8 & 3 year old children who ride in car also. W/o ample power, can b hazrdous 4 these drivers & passengers. Car isn't as reliable & efficient as prior 2 "fix". I'm worried I have 2 wait 4 a total failure 2 have it replaced. That's the ultimate danger! Honda won't return car 2 pre "fix" condition, said a permanent software fix. No passing power in middle of commute (30 miles each way) can b disconcerting. "fix" made car unsafe depending on battery soc & should have r2'd battery pack not do workaround leaving potential 4 mishap or worse. Reading about class action that Honda made me aware of, I'm not alone in this concern & Honda shouldn't b allowed 2 state car is safe bcuz they're aware their "fix" was a band-aid 2 get owner out of warranty period. Honda is refusing 2 replace battery until there is a complete, absolute failure. That's not safe!.
I drove my car to Honda of san angelo dealership for a recall, a software update campaign was done, I picked up the car and upon driving off the dealership lot, I noticed immediately that the electric part of the hybrid was not working, at all, it was working when I dropped it off and getting 47 mpg. Upon returning to the dealership, the service manager told me not to blame them for having a 9 year old car with 100,000 miles on it. I argued the point, that it was working when I dropped it off, and it isn't now, simple as that and as I drove off, the service manager flipped me off. The car is unusable, I parked it in my garage, and dropped the insurance on it. I plan to tow it to a san antonio dealership, which is a 4 hour drive one way, when I can afford it.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while at a complete stop and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was shut off and then restarted causing the vehicle to function as normal. The failure recurred on several occasions. On another occasion while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle failed to respond to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was restarted and it resumed to normal however, the failure recurred on several occasions while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine mount was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be determined, however, the contact was told to change the transmission fluid. The fluid was changed, however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the battery and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. The VIN was not available. Djr.
