1 Software problem of the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/20/2017

"takata recall" 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid with ima and engine lights went off. No charge to battery cause the car to malfunctions. Such as electrical steering wheel stop working. Engine lost power and stop while driving on city street at stop side. I changed new diehard 12v battery and also checked and verified the ima battery is good (each cell above 7 volts). I think the car need to update software from Honda. Please help us for the recall to update software. Many people have the same problem and they post their story on youtube.

2 Software problem of the 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/05/2016

On June 5th I was driving in motion on van ness Ave in san francisco California and suddenly I was not able to accellerate to keep up with the speed of traffic and started slowing down unable to continue. Traffic was stop-and go. People swerved around me causing issue. I managed to turn the car off and on again, and pulled over to the side. I restarted the car again and was able to slowly accellerate bringing it into the Honda dealership just 3 blocks away at market and van ness. This was Sunday. On Monday they called me and assured that the vehicle had been "fixed" due to a software bug. They said that this happens all the time and it will be fixed with this update. They also said my battery need replacing and they charged me to replace the battery. It seemed to be ok for the last few months - but then the same thing happened to me again this past weekend while I was driving home. Turning on and off the car fixed it such that I was able to drive the last 8 blocks home. I'm no longer feeling safe to drive my car.

3 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/28/2015

I was in the fifth hour of a six hour long road trip (warm day, a/c on, iphone plugged into console for an audio book), when I hit stop and go traffic. Shortly after the stop and go traffic began, my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid stopped being able to accelerate. Traffic ahead of me would move, my car would not respond normally, but only very, very slowly gather speed -- very tricky and dangerous when the traffic is stop and go. This is the third time this car has done this, twice in the same situation (long car drive, warm/hot day, very bad stop and go traffic, additional electrical use, a/c on and dvd's or something plugged in. ) when you are on the freeway, crossing a bridge -- as I was in both cases (golden gate bridge on memorial day and bay bridge yesterday, start of spring break) -- it is scary and dangerous to not have your car respond or be able to move / accelerate. Yesterday, to see if it would help, I took a chance and turned the engine on and off again, in the middle of 7 lanes of stopped bridge traffic, and the car began accelerating fairly normally, well enough to get over the bridge. Second time, a few months ago, my car simply wouldn't budge on the steep hill I drive up every day after a car came to a full stop in front of us, my Honda could barely get up the hill, then wouldn't accelerate normally on the flat block to my house, when I had my car towed to Honda next day, they said there was no problem. After the first memorial day bridge incident they said my car needed a software update, which they said they provided, and that the problem would never happen again, but it has happened twice since now. I only have 42,000 miles on my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. When I talk to the Honda dealer/mechanic they say they have never heard of a similar case to this.

4 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

Due to poor performance after a recent Honda ima hybrid battery software update, the electronic battery had turned itself off in order to extend its life. When the battery turned off, the primary electronic brakes were also turned off. When an accident happened on the opposing direction of traffic, it sent debris across the freeway barrier into my lane. I attempted to decrease my speed in order to maneuver around the debris, but I did not have sufficient braking power. If the brakes were not disabled in order to extend the battery life and decrease Honda of America's financial responsibility to replace batteries under warranty, I would not have ran over the debris that almost sent me straight into the median wall. I had seen the accident with plenty of time to slow down and I would have made it safely around the debris if I had proper working brakes. The brakes remain intermittent sometimes working as they should, other times not at all as stated above.

5 Software problem of the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

2012 Honda civic. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden loss of power while driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. They informed the consumer, the vehicle needed three software updates, in order to charge the battery properly.

6 Software problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/26/2013

After years of poor performance with this hybrid, I discovered that my ima battery was going bad. Honda had some recalls where they installed a new software update, but it did nothing. As a Honda hybrid owner, I bought a hybrid because I felt like it was the patriotic thing to do and hoped that the benefit would be greater gas mileage. As it turns out, it costs more initially than a regular civic, is no better than a regular civic on gas mileage and the ima replacement runs around $3500. If my battery dies on a dark highway I'm stuck because even though the performance is no better than a regular civic, I have to have that ima for it to run. Really feel scammed and at risk.

7 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

After having the ima battery replaced on my 2007 Civic Hybrid and getting the software updated, my car has no acceleration and is dangerous to drive. I have driven the car for almost 6 years with no acceleration issues and now the engine revs very high in order to provide even limited acceleration power. I have been told by my dealer that the car checks out fine and after calling Honda was told they did not know anything about this, when there are thousands of posts online about people having problems with the ima batteries after the software update. Others have mentioned they received similar responses from Honda when reporting such issues, so something is clearly not right here.

8 Software problem of the 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

On 26 February 2013, Honda of poway, CA performed California department of motor vehicles (dmv) mandated service #r83 required to register my car for the 2013 year. The mandated service was a software upgrade for my vehicle's ima battery. The vehicle was driven directly home from the dealership approximately 20 miles. On 28 February 2013, I had driven approximately 20 miles when the ima and check engine lights came on. I contacted Honda of poway that same morning and was informed by collin at the service desk that my ima battery had either failed or was in the process of failing and that the ima failure was an unfortunate coincidence completely unrelated to the software upgrade that the dealership had performed two days prior. My vehicle is an ultra-low emissions vehicle (ulev), it is apparently not covered under the California extended warranty of 10 years/150,000 miles. I have researched this issue on the internet and have found a significant number of complaints nearly identical to mine, including one complaint previously filed with the NHTSA. I strongly disagree with this not being a warranty issue and am formally submitting a complaint against Honda for a well-known and documented manufacturer defect that they refuse to acknowledge and resolve.

9 Software problem of the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

At the end of October 2012, I began to have issues with the ima battery failing on my Honda Civic Hybrid (2009). I took it to the local Honda shop, and the battery failed because of high voltage and deterioration. The software update was tried first. Within 5 miles, the battery failed again. The car stopped using the hybrid motor, so I had no assist when I was pulling into traffic. The gas engine revved, but it did not move the car. I was in the middle of a busy road with an 85 hp engine that was revving high but going nowhere. I got lucky that I could go into reverse. The next day, I tried to return the vehicle to the shop, but the car and battery were acting funny again. I would get a green light for the battery to charge, the white lights would indicate an assist, but the car would not go in reverse, and it would rev high but not go forward. That car and its flawed battery and horrible software update could have killed me. That combination indicates a serious design and engineering flaw. It took three days to get a new battery, and that new battery is the third for this car.

10 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/14/2012

The hybrid battery and charging system is not working properly. It is constantly fluctuating. This is after the various software updates. I have also seen a significant drop in mpg by more than 20% this is since the software updates and the ima system not working correctly. I have reviewed the 49 other complaints showing in the NHTSA system and all but 3 refer to the same or similar problems which I'm encountering. The other interesting fact is that unless the ima light comes on Honda appears to be refusing to take action. It is curious that in a number of the cases the light came on Honda did their software update and then the light doesn't seem to come on any longer even though individuals continue to report the same issues, just no light, coincidence I think not, its amazing what a few tweaks in software code can accomplish to reduce Honda's liability an keep the ima system light from coming on. It is my hope that someone at NHTSA will actually read these complaints and follow up. It is also my hope that something will get done by NHTSA before all of our warranties of 8 years or 80,000 miles expire and Honda says that a replace battery is our cost not theirs because they were able to drag this out. They have designed a bad system and they are taking actions to avoid having to do anything about it!!!!!!!!!.

11 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

The Honda Civic Hybrid 2007 is suddenly unable to accelerate appropriately. This fault is most dangerous when accelerating to start going after red lights and stop signs, especially on hills. It is also noticeable when accelerating to merge into traffic, the acceleration performance of the Honda Civic Hybrid declined precipitously and dangerously immediately after Honda required replacement of the ima battery and concurrent new software (at the Honda dealer) in March.

12 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

Had ima failure (2009) where vehicle wouldn't exceed 20 mph. Parked vehicle, required jumpstart & but was towed home ~25 miles. Jumped car again w/ no ima; drove 2 los gatos Honda. Ima trouble fixed; explanation not specific. Unbeknownst 2 me, other drivers had same trouble & Honda was (hearsay) aware of it. Never received recall notice 4 driver window (fixed same visit) or recall 4 rear susp. (found out about 3-yr old recall by a blog back in February 2012). Honda performed battery "fix" that was 2 make car better, it hasn't. Car has refused 2 auto-stop & has gas engine power (significantly < the gas only hc) only 4 many months as charging/discharging of ima battery has been erratic. Every day state-of-charge (soc) goes 2 two bars w/in a 1/2mile = no auto-stop or ima assist getting on2 freeway. After 3-4miles, ima back 2 7-8 bars & will be back down 2 < 4 bars & no ima assist again once or twice more on remainder of drive home. This never happened pre "fix", never! have 2 teenagers who drive car on occasion & also my wife & 8 & 3 year old children who ride in car also. W/o ample power, can b hazrdous 4 these drivers & passengers. Car isn't as reliable & efficient as prior 2 "fix". I'm worried I have 2 wait 4 a total failure 2 have it replaced. That's the ultimate danger! Honda won't return car 2 pre "fix" condition, said a permanent software fix. No passing power in middle of commute (30 miles each way) can b disconcerting. "fix" made car unsafe depending on battery soc & should have r2'd battery pack not do workaround leaving potential 4 mishap or worse. Reading about class action that Honda made me aware of, I'm not alone in this concern & Honda shouldn't b allowed 2 state car is safe bcuz they're aware their "fix" was a band-aid 2 get owner out of warranty period. Honda is refusing 2 replace battery until there is a complete, absolute failure. That's not safe!.

13 Software problem of the 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

I drove my car to Honda of san angelo dealership for a recall, a software update campaign was done, I picked up the car and upon driving off the dealership lot, I noticed immediately that the electric part of the hybrid was not working, at all, it was working when I dropped it off and getting 47 mpg. Upon returning to the dealership, the service manager told me not to blame them for having a 9 year old car with 100,000 miles on it. I argued the point, that it was working when I dropped it off, and it isn't now, simple as that and as I drove off, the service manager flipped me off. The car is unusable, I parked it in my garage, and dropped the insurance on it. I plan to tow it to a san antonio dealership, which is a 4 hour drive one way, when I can afford it.

14 Software problem of the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

I own a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. I've had issues with low power and halting acceleration due to low battery conditions accompanied with the dash engine light coming on. Honda dealership has applied software updates to my vehicle to address this twice, but those simply trade mileage for battery life, degrading the value of a hybrid. I believe that the ima battery has known problems and that Honda is not addressing the issue. I'm afraid to merge onto highways with a low battery due to the lack of power and acceleration.

15 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

Original owner. After ima battery software upgrade owner now experiences random loss of battery power level. Battery indicator randomly falls to 1 bar and during this time, sluggish to poor acceleration, especially in highway merge situations placing owner is dangerous situations. When battery charged at least 50%, acceleration is acceptable as the ima assist in acceleration.

16 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

After my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid received an integrated motor assist (ima) software upgrade in 2010, if the car is parked for one day (such as a Sunday, if I do not drive the car) the ima battery will drain within one half mile of leaving my home the next day, on a level roadway, even if the ventilation system and radio are off to reduce electrical load. Fuel economy also dropped about 10 mpg after the software upgrade. Without ima, the car has slow freeway acceleration, especially when traveling uphill. The Honda dealer says they cannot do anything because the ima system light does not illuminate (obd does not show a fault) although the dealer can reproduce the problem after keeping the car overnight. How do you know the ima software upgrade does not prevent the ima light from illuminating when there is an ima battery fault, therefore not requiring Honda to replace the ima batteries under warranty?.

17 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the integrated motor assist light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the hybrid battery was deteriorating. A new software system was installed in order to save the battery. The failure continued and the contact also stated that the vehicle did not always accelerate once the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure mileage was 76,000.

18 Software problem of the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/16/2011

Ima battery is defective, wears out earlier than designed, causes dangerously slow episodes of being able to accelerate from a stand still and accelerate to merge with highway speed traffic. Gets horrible fuel mileage, no where as advertised, especially in very hot weather. */01/2012 updated bf the consumer stated the ima battery light illuminated. The dealer suggested a software upgrade update. When the consumer turned the vehicle off, and back on again, the light did not illuminate. Updated 03/16/12.

19 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

The integrated motor assist (ima) hybrid system loses power with no known precipitating factors or advance indication of failure. The vehicle will immediately reduce power train output prior to the dash gauges indicating a near-complete loss of ima battery charge and function moments later, with only the internal combustion engine providing motive power. Within 3-4 miles of driving, the ima battery charge, as indicated by the dash meter, will then immediately jump to a completely full level in a similarly unexplained fashion. Independent of these transient but regular failures of the high-voltage hybrid system, the vehicle functions as expected. Currently, I have documented over 160 instances since 4/22/11, occurring an average of once every day the vehicle is driven, increasing to 2-3 times daily since mid-November, 2011 (data available on request). Symptoms occur independent of ambient temperature, nature of drive (high/low speed) and despite changing the 12 volt battery and disconnecting or turning off all power accessories possible. Following a satisfaction campaign by Honda in late summer/fall, 2010 that involved a software update installed at a Honda dealership and replacement of the DC-DC converter portion of the hybrid system under recall shortly after, the episodes of loss of power impairing vehicle operation have increased in frequency. An additional software update by Honda completed on 11/10/11 has further exacerbated the rate of transient failures of the ima system and impacted vehicle driveability. Multiple software updates pertaining the the ima hybrid system have also been installed on the vehicle by Honda dealer technicians over the previous 3 years.

20 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/18/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. While driving at an unknown rate of speed, the low beam head lamps shorted and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to coast the vehicle into a parking lot. The vehicle stalled again and was unable to be restarted. The contact was unable to determine if the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v106000 (electrical system). The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who replaced the DC/DC converter, but the failure recurred. The ima warning light and the service engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle restarted with hesitation and stalled again. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the ima battery module and updated the pcm with new software. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure several times and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 58,028.

21 Software problem of the 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Honda civic hybird 2005. Engine light came on a few weeks ago and has since remained on. Took car to autozone for computer assessment and was reported that there are issues with the oxygen sensors attached the the catolac converter. Local Honda dealship reported an issue with the software. Update is available, however they are issuing a charge of $70. 00 to update and therefore fix the issue.

22 Software problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/03/2011

'08 Honda Civic Hybrid experiencing a dramatic decrease in fuel economy. Ima battery suspected. Dealership upgraded software (as per Honda recall) and told me that to get better mpg's I should shut off my heater (we live in wisconsin!) and recommended an air filter change. I stated that an air filter and shutting off the heat would not increase my mpg's from 28-31 back up to it's prior performance range of 40-50. Vehicle is still dramatically underperforming. Note: service advisor @ bergstrom Honda admitted that in his 4 years there that he has seen many Civic Hybrids with severe tire cupping (I previously filed complaints on this issue also, vehicle is going on it's 3rd set of tires within 57,927 miles!) and also mentioned the poor performance after the Honda software upgrades to fix the ima issues. It is my belief that Honda is well aware of the ima issues and is trying to hide them under the software update (to save replacing "x" number of expensive hybrid batterys). I believe that as owners we have lost valuable lifespan on these batterys and that we have lost out on a good portion of our hybrid battery warranty coverage due to Honda's design.

23 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

There is a potential for the voltage converter that relays power from the integrated motor assist (ima) system to the vehicle's electrical components to fail. . A cvt doesn't actually have gears, so the system uses electronics to direct the transmission to up- or downshift in specific ways when a driver hits a paddle. Battery loses charge suddenly and power is significantly lost to the point where acceleration is not possible. This has created several unsafe driving condition in highway and expressway entrances, as I can not get in safely or maintain safe speed during driving. This incident has repeated many times in the past three years. Battery indicator drops to zero bar or one bar and power is lost significantly. Sluggish to poor acceleration, especially in highway merge situations placing owner is dangerous situations. When battery charged at least 50%, acceleration is acceptable as the ima assist in acceleration. The vehicle's hybrid ima system (integrated motor assist) has been steadily deteriorating the hybrid battery system must recharge so frequently that battery assist is available less than half the time. When assist is unavailable, acceleration is dangerously low, making common driving situations such as left turns, freeway onramps, and merging into traffic unpredictable and quite hazardous. Honda's only response has been a series of ineffective software updates. Honda will not replace the battery under warranty unless a warning light appears. Yet even the current severely degraded performance of the battery does not trigger that warning light. I have been in several near miss situations when acceleration was so sluggish that I was nearly unable to evade a dangerous traffic situation.

24 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/22/2011

2007 Honda hybrid, purchased new on 05/26/2007 at ed morse Honda in riviera beach florida. Listing of auto problems dealer made aware of since purchase: /27/2007 left front window regulator failed: under warranty/replaced /01/2009 ima (hybrid battery) indicator begins to drop to on bar, acceleration feels rough. As can be noted, the items that have failed could all lead to emergency situations. Have all receipts to verify the above. Need help. Please.

25 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

On my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid the ima battery will suddenly drop from a charge to no charge. When this happens the car loses almost all acceleration power because the gasoline engine is forced to charge the battery up. This has happened to me during acceleration onto major highways during rush hour which is extremely dangerous without acceleration power. I would like Honda motor to address this issue instead of issuing software recalls that do nothing to the car.

26 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/23/2010

Honda performed an ima software update on 12/22/2010. Since that time the availability of electrical assist has been greatly reduced. Even when the battery reads full, I cannot be sure that electrical assist will be available, or, if it is available, how long it will last. Several times it has suddenly failed in the middle of a merge or lane change.

27 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/22/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact noticed that the battery was rapidly discharging and failed to charge fully, causing the gas motor to run longer. The dealer was notified who advised the contact to have a software upgrade performed. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle was repaired. The current mileage was 77,300 and the failure mileage was approximately 77,000. Updated 02/10/11 the consumer stated he did inform the manufacturer of the failure and a warranty claim was made to the dealer and the manufacturer. The vehicle was given the Honda software upgrade by the local dealer. Since the software upgrade, the mpg continues in the 30 mpg range, down from the pre-failure mpg of 42 mpg. Current, post-upgrade is measured over the last 200 miles by the vehicles the on-board mpg device. The battery continues to discharge rapidly, the rpm idle increases from about 750 to 1500. The vehicle uses the starter motor instead of the ima battery. Updated 04/21/11.

28 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/16/2010

Battery began performing what is know as a calibration where all motor assist ceases and the battery recharges. Once in a while this is okay however it gradually got more and more frequent to the point it became a daily routine or even occurred multiple times within the day. One cold morning the ima (battery light) came on. After taking the car into Honda, they performed 6 software updates. Since that time calibrations have increased in frequency. The battery will now calibrate after sitting for as little as 1 hour and will often calibrate several times within a single commute. At one point over the course of the day, about 80 miles, there were 5 calibrations. A few days later the car performed 4 calibrations in a 20 mile stretch. The ima light has not came back on at this point but I did take the car to Honda. They were unable to reproduce the condition. At this time nothing has become of the calibrations. While they have been merely annoying I am concerned that they pose a high safety risk as should the calibration come at the beginning or in the middle of a heavy acceleration, the car will loose significant power and can potentially cause a hazardous situation that could easily result in a collision. (when the battery calibrates, getting the car to accelerate is like pushing a freight train).

29 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Honda Civic Hybrid ima no assist or lack of assist and mileage reduction after ima software recall update. I had no issues prior to the ima recall software update performed at the dealer. The car seems to now use less electric motor power to accelerate or to go up hills. This can become dangerous in certain situations. Also the car has seen a decrease in fuel economy of 16% city and 24% highway. Contacted 2 different Honda dealerships and they both said some people have the same issues but Honda does not have a solution for them. Called Honda motor corp. Directly to try to get warranty fix or at least for them to uninstall the ima sw update and they said they cannot do that. They will not replace my battery which is still under the 8 year warranty or resolve my sw update issues. It seems with so many people having an issue someone like the government should step in and force Honda to rectify the issues for free rather than having people waste their time going to small claims court or filing a class action suit.

30 Software problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

I have 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid had no problems until August 2010 when they sent a letter to have a software upgrade for the ima integrated motor assist battery after having the upgrade I had loss of power when acceleration the ima seems towork 50-75 percent less then what it use too also my battery indicator had never been down to 4 bars before the upgrade but after it was done seems like it wants to stay right at 4 most of the time so inturn the ima doesn't use the battery I have lose 10+ mpg I use to get 45-48 now I get 32-35 so now its like driving a under powered civic the worst is when you try to take off or if you need to accelerate to merge on the freeway you might have some ima or not you just don't know.

31 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid. The contact received notification from the dealer to bring his vehicle in for servicing where they performed an ima service upgrade. After the servicing, the contact stated the electric motor assist did not work. Both the dealer and manufacture were contacted who informed the contact that the software upgrade could not be undone. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was approximately 59,000. The failure mileages was approximately 56,000.

32 Software problem of the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

The ima battery pack in my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid failed at 68,000 miles. Prior to the failure, on one occasion the engine shut down at a stop sign and had to be restarted. The battery failure occurred while my wife was driving the car on a freeway and the failure resulted in a considerable drop in power, but the car continued to run on the gasoline engine alone. Honda previously installed a software update in the vehicle apparently to address battery issues. Honda is replacing the battery pack under warranty.

33 Software problem of the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

Honda is calling in hch owners for a software update to "preserve the battery. " the result of this software update essentially shuts the ima battery down frequently, leaving the car to run on just the motor which was intended to run with the ima. Aside from the "switch and bate" issues (mileage dropped below a standard civic), the safety issue involved is a frequent lack of acceleration capability, especially on an incline or merging into traffic.

34 Software problem of the 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/11/2010

Have a 08 Civic Hybrid with 89k miles. Got the recent battery software upgrade several weeks ago. Have had a sudden drop in battery charge down to one or two bars, both before and after the upgrade. Recovery usually fairly quick, driving on the interstate, 72 mph, all of a sudden dash went dark and engine stopped. No warnings or lights beforehand. Coasted to the side of the road. Able to restart immediately. Happened twice more over the next 30 minutes. These times put the car in neutral and restarted as I coasted. Tank about 1/3 full with shell gas. Filled the tank with off brand gas and drove the rest of the way ok. Took it to Honda dealer. They checked engine (no codes) and electrical system. Nothing found. Have to drive this car every weekend for 400 mile round trip. Concerned about upcoming weekend.

35 Software problem of the 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/07/2010

Honda hybrid recall (summer 2010) to update software to address battery problems has resulted in major degradation in what little power existed in getting up hills. Car 'freezes' and struggles to get up hills. Extremely dangerous driving in street of san francisco. Recently struggled to go up a highway onramp at 25-30mph - no load in car other than me. Not until 15+seconds on the flats could I slowly manage to get to highway speeds. In the few months since the notice, there are many accounts on the web of other owners experiencing same power problems. I know I bought a car with hardly any power but this is dangerous. Honda technician drove it with me and saw the problem. Attempted to diagnose and I got a call back that this is 'normal' as a result of the software recall update.
