Ignition Switch problems of the 1997 Honda CR-V

My Cr-v will stop running suddenly and without warning. I found that other Cr-v's had a recall for the ignition switch which is exactly the same as what my car has. (a faulty ignition switch. Even though the car has 200500 miles it has been garage kept and serviced regularly and is in excellent condition. It seems that my car having the exact same symptoms of the same year ignition switch recalls should be covered as well. While driving anywhere between 30 and 55 m. P. H. The car stalls because engine stops running without any warning. I put it into neutral and it starts right back up. It will keep doing the exact same thing once or twice a week now. It started out once or twice a month.

My 1997 Honda Cr-v is cutting off 5 or more times a day, going down the free way,in mid turns, while setting still, it is a very huge concern of mine for the safety of my 3 children and I. Everytime I need to roll my windows up to have to turn the ignition switch a notch further than needed. . . Almost starting it again for it to register. . On the middle notch the dash lights won't even turn on. . And when it's going to cut off the gauges go haywire. . . And I checked my VIN # but no recalls but for the year make model there is. . .

1997 Honda crv. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for ignition switch recall. The consumer stated the vehicle would shut off, while driving.

4 Ignition Switch problem

The contact owns a 1997 Honda Cr-v. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle completely shut down. The failure occurred many times while driving at various speeds. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, shifted, and attempted to restart the vehicle. Initially, he would be able to restart the vehicle after 2 or 3 attempts. The failure progressively worsened and took 20-30 attempts to start again and would only drive a few feet afterwards. The failure occurred approximately 20 times; therefore, he stopped using the vehicle. After the contact replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, which did not remedy the issue, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. They stated that the ignition switch failed. The dealer referenced NHTSA campaign id number 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch), but they did not repair the vehicle under the recall. Instead, the contact was charged over $300. He spoke with the manufacturer and filed a case. The failure mileage was 125,000 and current mileage was approximately 125,500.

5 Ignition Switch problem

Ignition switch for a 1997 Honda crv without warning or any indication the car will stop this is a dangerous situation driving on any road today. Honda should have acknowledge way before it ever got started.

6 Ignition Switch problem

"recall camaign" concerning ignition switch/electrical: consumer stated that this was replaced under a safety recall. However, I could not find that recall number. The problem emerged again. Vehicle will completely shut down while driving. Nhtsa campaign id number : 02v120000. The original ignition was replace and the new ignition was the one that failed. Honda did not care to assist the consumer because their obligation was fulfilled.

7 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2003

While driving the vehicle stalled without warning which forced the consumer to pull off the road. The dealer replaced the ignition switch but the problem is still occurring.

8 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2003

A recall on the ignition switch was issued; however, in order to repair the defect. The dealer advised that he would have to disconnect alarm system, and will only reconnect the alarm system at owner's expense. The defect caused the engine to shut off while driving. The vehicle had to sit for a while before it could be restarted. Both dealers refused to replace the defective ignition switch unless the consumer paid to have the alarm reinstalled. The consumer was told by the dealer not to reinstall the alarm.

The dealer wanted to charge consumer to reconnect the alarm system to perform the recall on the vehicle. Recall#02v120000 ignition switch. Ts.

10 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2000

Melted metal falling from under instrument panel onto driver's foot. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that the problem was due to ignition switch having melted. Feel free to provide any further details.

11 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer was charged to have alarm reconnected after recall repair was performed. The consumers vehicle was taken tot he dealer to have recall 02v-120000 performed (ignition switch). The consumer received a call stating that there would be a charge to reconnect the alarm. The consumer refused repairs under those condition. The vehicle's power outlet was constantly loose.

12 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer states while driving at 65 mph engine stalls. Consumer has to stop and restart engine. Mechanic states problem is due to a faulty ignition switch.

13 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer took vehicle to a Honda dealership to have ignition switch recalll performed. Consumer states she's unhappy having to pay for the alarm to be reconnected. Ph.

14 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer received a recall notice (02v120000) regarding the ignition switch after already having the work completed out of pocket. Consumer request reimbursement.

15 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer received recall (02v120000) regarding a faulty ignition switch, however consumer was informed that because the alarm that was installed on the vehicle was an aftermarket product they would not reconnect the alarm or reimburse consumer the cost of having someone else to reconnect it, consumer is requesting reimbursement for having the alarm reconnected.

16 Ignition Switch problem

Nhtsa recall 02v120000, ignition switch; the owner wishes to register a complaint that Honda corporation is charging her to have the electronic alarm removed from her vehicle. Nlm.

17 Ignition Switch problem

Consumer received recall notice 02v12 regarding the ignition switch. The dealer informed consumer that there would be an extra charge to reconnect the the alarm. The alarm was installed at the dealership and consumer doesn't feel a charge should imply. The vehicle was to come equipped with an alarm but didn't. The dealer installed the alarm but it was an after market alarm and not a Honda alarm the reason for the charge. Consumer would like the situation looked into.

18 Ignition Switch problem

Dealership was refusing to put back the manufacted factory installed alarm system in after the recall for ignition switch was completed.
