Takata recall- our 2010 Cr-v was involved in a 3-car accident on a city road with speed limit of 35 mph. A car entering the city street from another road cut off the driver traveling on the road in vehicle #1 and v#1 came to an abrupt stop. The car that entered the road, sped off and was not hit by v#1. Vehicle #2 rear-ended v#1. Our vehicle (v#3) rear-ended vehicle #2. There is significant damage to the front end of our Cr-v. We are concerned that the driver's airbag was not deployed. The police officer called to the scene also commented that he was surprised that the airbag did not deploy. Thankfully, our daughter did not hit the steering wheel, but the force was significant enough that we are concerned that this airbag is not functioning properly. We were not aware of any recalls on these airbags until we received notification in the mail literally the day following her accident. We would like the airbag replaced in case something should happen in the future. We do not want to have our daughter driving in a car with known defective airbags.
Takata recall was supposedly corrected at price Honda, camden DE on 12/17/16. On 10/27/17 I was traveling on us rt 13sb at approx 30 mph when I unsuccessfully tried to stop and rear ended a 2008 GMC pick up truck. My front end sustained major damage but the air bag did not deploy. Both the emt and the police officer noted that the airbag should have deployed given the impact of the accident. I was taken by ambulance to kent general hospital dover DE, where I had a CT scan and an mri and was diagnosed with a t1 compression fracture and injury to ligaments of c1,2,3. I am scheduled to see neurosurgeon 11/1/2017. My car was towed to chambers tow CO viola,DE 302-284-9655. I will attach photos for documentation.
Passenger side airbag recall. Honda dealership said there was no option for replacement car per NHTSA's agreement with Honda. Service manager says airbag can be disabled by unplugging, but they will not do so per NHTSA agreement. I purchased a 5 passenger vehicle for a reason. This is my families primary vehicle. One fourth of my vehicle is now unusable. If airbag does inflate, even with no one in the seat, it is likely that shrapnel will hit driver or possibly back seat passengers. Also, airbag will deploy if passenger seat is used to place other items on. Honda needs to be more concerned about their customers safety than the dollar amount. Even with nothing in the passenger front seat there is no guarantee that airbag will not deploy in an accident per the service manager as well as personal observation of accidents involving other vehicles. Called corporate Honda and am now waiting on someone to contact about getting permission to use rental vehicle. Cs employee cannot provide any information as to how long that may take. Meanwhile my family and I remain in danger.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a front end collision and the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the bumper and driver side headlamp assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v061000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There were no injuries. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The driver side air bag symbol lights up by itself and goes off by itself; sometimes it remains on for as long as 15 mins or as short as few mins. It is random and not reproducible on demand. There's nothing one can do on a highway if the airbag fails to deploy as one would expect. When I called the dealer, they wanted a diagnostic fee of $125 to find the problem, and if its not reproducible on demand it may take several tries. This is a manufacturing / design defect and Honda should own and resolve this issue, as its not even a part that's subject to wear - like the tires/brakes, etc.
