When starting cold, as sitting overnight, turn key ,grinding noise from engine, only time it happens.
Engine makes loud grinding noise when starting cold similar to what others have described as the vtc actuator problem. Car has 83,000 miles on it. Fyi. . . . . This is my second Honda Cr-v. . . . . I traded in the last one at 78,000 miles when it was doing the same thing!!!.
For the past couple of months the engine makes a loud grinding noise when I start it. Mostly in colder weather. I've discussed this with another Honda Cr-v owner and the same thing started happening with them.
Makes grinding noise at start up. Similar to other complaints with vtc valve issues.
On cold start the engine makes a loud grinding noise. My vehicle only has 28,500 miles on the car.
Have 2013 Honda Cr-v and when go to start it after sitting overnight makes loud grinding noise for 1-2 seconds. Dealership says it's the vtc actuator and is a know problem but not recall has been issued. They want 500 bucks to fix the issues since car of course isn't under warranty and won't work with me at all. Very unprofessional in my opinion of Honda with an issues that is know and common.
At the stationary position, heard a loud grinding sound every time I start the car. Dealership stated it is a vtc actuator failure.
Loud, grinding sound upon starting the vehicle, after sitting overnight.
Every time I start my car in the morning and sometimes other times during the day it makes a terrible grinding noise.
A loud grinding noise lasting a few seconds after initial start up after car has been sitting, I. E. , a 'cold start. ' my Honda 2013 crv-ex-l has had this problem from day one, brand new! it's intermittent but happens usually on a cold start. After quite a few visits to dealer they act perplexed and never can duplicate the condition! it actually is the vtc (variable timing control). Honda has had this problem for several years on various models of their vehicles, has never fixed the problem nor contacted affected buyers but has continued to build and sell these vehicles with a known defect with no fix! their engineers are aware of the problem, but of course the same engineers say it causes "no damage to the vehicle!" shame on Honda, it only ruined their reputation! people stare at you and ask "what is that noise?" when you explain, it puts Honda and their vehicles in a poor position I. E. , loss of reputation and sales. I did intensive investigation on my own, just 'google the problem, and you will be taken to 'you tube' and many other sites showing the problem. Take to the dealer a video and a copy of the numerous complaints on this and other sites! you must prove the problem exists!! I called Honda America 2 days ago to complain and found out Honda just this year, 2016, finally came out with a 'fix!' it is for the vtc (variable timing control) . My car finally is at the dealer being repaired. Honda knew all along of this problem at least from 2012 through 2014 and even earlier models! a recall should be mandated to make the repair!! again shame on Honda, I personally will never buy a Honda automobile again. The frustration, embarrassment, time running back and forth to the dealer, etc. Has worn me out!! remember their is now a bulletin to Honda dealers with a 'fix. ' but they must duplicate the problem! be sure to take a video with sound!!.
I own a Honda Cr-v 2013 awd with 60,000 miles. I'm the second owner. I purchased the car from carmax in 2016 with 27,000 miles. After several months of owning the vehicle one morning I hear this loud grinding noise lasting a few seconds after initial start up of vehicle when stationary. This sound has continued on and off at all different times of the day.
1-takata inflator the passage airbag light comes on and off randomly. This does not make me feel comfortable. There¿s a recall for Cr-vs up to 2012 for this?? 2-start up noise - at least once a day when I start up my Cr-v it does this very loud grinding sound. Note: during winter it was every time I started the car. The noise did not start until after the warranty expired. Took to dealership they stated its the valve that's a part of the head/timing chain system. I've done my research and both these problems are very common with Honda Cr-v.
Engine grinding noise when crossing up and down structures like bridges. Especially on highway while taking exits. At a times it feels like the engine is about to die. This grinding noise is disturbing my confidence to drive the vehicle safely.
My mechanic from four stars auto care, long island, n. Y. Had mentioned that there was a problem with my Cr-v 2013 timing camshaft which is causing the grinding sound when I start the car (the mechanic says that the oil has drained from the camshaft and is not lubricated ¿ which caused the grinding sound). Usually, this happens if the engine has not been started for more than 3 or 4 hours. I believe this is the vtc actuator in the car that is making a grinding sound. I just spoke to a lady ¿nicole¿ from Honda city, 3859 hempstead turnpike, levittown, NY 11756 who acknowledged that there is a defect in the vtc actuator in the 2013 Cr-vs but does not have an answer when Honda will have the vtc replacement. She said, ¿Honda is working on a new vtc, but does not know when they will have them available. ¿ she also said that, they stopped replacing the current vtc model and there is a defect. ¿ all I want to know if they will still replace this when my car goes out of warranty in a few thousand miles? I also want to know if there is a long term effect of the grinding noise to the camshaft or the engine and also the passerby¿s who looked at my Cr-v after I start my car. I am going to contact Honda directly¿ I am not satisfied with the answers and the service. I will definitely not purchase another Honda if there is satisfaction to this solution.
Vtc actuator is failing causing a grinding sound when starting the vehicle. Honda has recognized and admitted to a defective part. Continued to sell cars knowing the parts were defective. 2014-2015 Hondas have the same issue. Honda reports it is not doing damage to the engine or any components. They are offering no assistance in the matter.
Grinding sound upon start. Probably the vtc actuator.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Cr-v. When starting the engine in cold temperatures, an abnormal metal grinding noise emitted from the vehicle. The failure recurred upon initial start-up in colder temperatures. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vtc actuator failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
Awful grinding noise at a cold start no matter what the weather is. Car is in mid atlantic region. Each start comes with a grinding noise. Mechanic can't find anything wrong. None of my other cars not make such a horrendous noise at start up. This sound was noticed not long after the car was purchased late 2014.
As I reported last year, there is a vtc actuator design flaw that creates a grinding noise when the temps fall below freezing and in some cases even above freezing mainly due to lack of oil pressure and the actuator not locking correctly. Well, another winter has come and gone and there is still no hint of a fix from Honda. They claim there is no damage occurring but any time I hear metal on metal I beg to differ. Unfortunately at this point I am looking at options such as trading the vehicle in as I don't know what kind of serious damage is being done each winter with metal on metal grinding. Honda sure has lost their prestigious claim of reliability in my eyes. Sadly this will be my last Honda product as they don't seem to address customer concerns in any kind of timely manner.
At the stationary position, heard a loud grinding sound when I start the vehicle for about 1-2 seconds.
Tl - the contact owns a 2013 Honda crv. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was a grinding noise heard coming from the front end on numerous occasions without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 19,000. Dr.
On cold days at first start up the engine makes a grinding noise. This has been an issue for accords and Cr-v since 2008. Honda has issued a bulletin saying it's the vtc actuator but there has been no permanent fix or recall on defective part(s). Grinding noise can be sporadic so only if dealer can replicate issue will they replace the actuator and even then grinding noise can return weeks or months later when it gets cold again (I,e, every winter). For a problem that has existed for so many years, there should have been a permanent fix by now. Especially for a brand new vehicle. In my case I've had the grinding noise since December '13 although sporadic as mentioned depending on outside temp and how long the vehicle has not be started.
Sporadic grinding noise after setting overnight. Took to dealer, they said would have to hear it before they could do anything. Left until the next day. No satisfaction on my part. Still does it. It was under warranty when taken in, but is out of warranty now.
During winter months at freezing and below part # 110153 variable timing control, vtc actuator malfunctions. At the first start up the vehicle makes a grinding noise (metal upon metal). This was confirmed by the originating dealer and I was told that even though this happens consistently in crv-s when the temperature falls at or freezing that there is nothing to worry about. The engine won't freeze up nor will there be any damage to the power train? the part in question is unable (at low temperatures) to push oil up into the engine upon initial cold start-up in the mornings . This was how it was explained to me by the dealer. When I asked to speak to the Honda representative who was at the store when the dealer replaced the part on 11 November, 2014 (and within less than 24 hours it failed) I was never allowed to do so. I lived with this all of last winter and now this winter as well or so it appears. I was informed by the dealer that this was an issue on several 2013 Honda Cr-v's sold in states where the climate is freezing or below. I was also informed that a fix was in the works by Honda. Well a fix has been in the works now since at least February of this year 2014 and nothing has been achieved. I was told by the dealer to call Honda customer relations. The dealer wiped their hands of the situation. I don't believe that there will not be damage to the engine ( and possibly cause it to freeze up while on the road) potentially causing a serious hazard/accident. Last, (and least of all) when I want to sell and/or trade in this vehicle it's value will be substantially diminished because of this defect that I am (by law) required to disclose. Funny how the dealer knew this when they sold me the car but never disclosed the defect to me!.
Upon initial startup of the engine there is a grinding sound. This particular issue has only occurred twice and hard to replicate unless it's very cold. At first it sounded like a starter issue, but others have said it's the vtc actuator and an oil pressure issue when it's cold outside. Even though my car is garaged it has occurred twice in two weeks so it is a concern. Dealership will not do anything unless they can replicate it. . Read more...
2013 Honda Cr-v. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle tpms system issues. Approximately, 4 1/2 months after the vehicle was purchased, the consumer began having problems with the tpms. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer 4 times. On January 18, 2014 the dealer replaced the rear tpms sensors, but that evening the tpms light illuminated again and has been intermittently coming on since that time. Also, there was a grinding noise, that occurred immediately after start-up. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.
