Vehicle has an "engine hot" warning and coolant loss, which creates a safety risk of stalling in traffic.
I have taken the vehicle to dealership twice and told there was nothing wrong with the car. On three occasions the car has shut off when I stop and will re-engage but lurches and makes a crunching sound upon accelerating.
Throttle body replacement at only 23294 miles. Replaced under warranty . Did some searching and Honda is aware of coolant seeping into throttle body. This could cause failure while on road or hwy causing injury or death. This issue should have a priority permanent fix as my family is riding in this vehicle. This is unacceptable thank you for your time into this report.
Vehicle was purchased new on 5/17/2024. On January 16, 2026 the vehicle was brought into a Honda dealership because of 2 lingering issues. 1) it had low power while driving uphill on the freeway. When driving the vehicle from the bay area to reno, the vehicle was unable to keep up with the flow of traffic travelling at the speed limit. Vehicles behind us were agitated. We did not know if this was normal or not and we wanted to have the car checked out. 2) the engine sounded different after the trip to reno. Youtube videos, including some by Honda dealers had advised that the crv hybrid made noises which were considered normal. We wanted to know if the noise that we we're hearing was normal. The vehicle was in the shop for 26 days. The dealer confirmed the low power but had difficulty diagnosing the engine noise, except that it was not normal. The dealer brought in resources from Honda techline on multiple occasions to assist in diagnosis. During the course of the 26 days in the shop, the dealer ultimately found it necessary to rebuild the entire engine, including replacing the block, cylinder heads, lifters, fuel injector, etc. . . . We feel fortunate that we did not experience the more extreme loss of power and limp home mode that has been reported. We are very concerned about the future reliability of the vehicle. From the research that we have done, it appears that the primary cause of many of the engine failures experienced by this year/model are due to failure of the fuel injector system. What is really odd, is that the fuel injector system on our vehicle was inspected by the dealer on February 22, 2025, I. E. , a year before we brought the vehicle in for the current issues.
My 2024 Honda Cr-v ex is experiencing a premature head gasket failure at approximately one year of ownership. A head gasket is a long-life component designed to maintain proper combustion sealing and prevent coolant/oil cross-contamination. This type of failure should not occur on a new vehicle and suggests a potential manufacturing or engineering defect in the powertrain. Before diagnosis, the vehicle displayed symptoms consistent with gasket integrity loss, including rough running, shaking during acceleration, reduced power output, inconsistent engine temperature, and abnormal vibration. These issues indicate possible combustion leakage, coolant intrusion into the cylinders, or compromised cooling system performance. Given the low age and mileage of the vehicle, the failure does not align with normal wear. Possible causes include improper factory installation, uneven torque application, defective gasket materials, engine block or cylinder-head surface irregularities, or thermal management issues that could cause localized overheating or warpage. Any of these would point to a systemic defect rather than owner misuse. A failing head gasket can lead to engine overheating, stalling, power loss, oil/coolant contamination, and eventual engine failure. These conditions present clear safety risks if they occur while the vehicle is in motion. Because this is a major powertrain failure occurring far earlier than expected, I believe this issue may affect other 2024 Cr-v models and warrants investigation. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can review whether a potential defect exists that could require further action to protect consumers.
My car was sitting in idle with the engine on for approximately five minutes, then all of the sudden the engine started to make loud tractor engine-like loud noises. The dashboard was bombarded with warnings. I turned the car off, and waited a few seconds. After I restarted the car, the check engine light turned on and the system reverted to one warning on the screen which read "emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ".
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the message "engine system problem - power may be reduced" was displayed, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,980.
My 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid began experiencing a noticeable loss of engine power and severe shaking while idling. The problem first appeared when I was parked with the engine running, and the car suddenly started vibrating strongly. Shortly after, the “emissions system problem” warning message appeared on the dashboard. A local Honda dealer suspected a malfunction in the fuel injector system, which may have led to improper fuel combustion, reduced acceleration, and overall unstable engine behavior. This issue could increase the risk of an accident, particularly when merging or accelerating in traffic, due to delayed throttle response. Many other Cr-v hybrid owners have reported similar symptoms online, pointing to a potential widespread defect in the fuel delivery system. Despite this, there is currently no official recall for the fuel injectors in this model. I am concerned that this issue, if left unresolved, could lead to engine damage or even pose a fire risk due to unregulated or incomplete fuel combustion. Given the number of reports and the potential danger, I respectfully urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and consider initiating a recall to protect driver safety.
Car went from regular driving to very rough running engine, multiple warning lights activated and limp mode activated. Drove 25mph to get home. Car was towed to dealership and after inspection, fuel injectors and spark plug # 3 had to be replaced. Many many crv owners seen to be having this problem and this could cause an accident should it happen on a freeway.
Engine begain shuddering, went to 1/2 power, emissions warning and check engine light came on. Happened on highway 3x, happened at stop signs 3-4 times too.
Unknown.
On [xxx], my 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid experienced a sudden loss of acceleration while driving on the highway, creating a dangerous situation where I was unable to merge or maintain speed. This put me at immediate risk of an accident as other vehicles were traveling at normal highway speeds. This issue arose less than 136 miles after my vehicle underwent recall repairs on [xxx] at superstition springs Honda in mesa, arizona. The recall repairs included: •fuel pump safety recall (NHTSA recall 24-049) •cvt greasing recall (NHTSA recall 24-123) after the recall repair, my vehicle displayed a dashboard warning on [xxx] stating: ? “emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ” following this warning, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly despite pressing the gas pedal, making highway driving unsafe. I took my vehicle back to the dealership immediately. The dealership categorized this as an emissions system failure but has not confirmed if it is related to the recall repairs. The dealership also stated that I would need to drive 500 miles after any repair to “confirm” the issue is resolved, which is unreasonable and unsafe given the circumstances. This is a serious safety defect. A sudden loss of acceleration on the highway creates a high risk of collisions, injuries, or fatalities. Other 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid owners have reported similar emission system failures after recall repairs, suggesting this may be a widespread issue. This issue is now under review by Honda corporate (case #[xxx]), but I have not received a clear resolution or assurance that my vehicle will be permanently fixed. I request that NHTSA investigate whether Honda’s recall repairs are causing secondary defects leading to acceleration failures. This defect poses a significant safety risk and requires immediate attention. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On 1/21/25 I had multiple warning lights appear while driving along the highway @ 60 mph. The error messaging included “transmission failure, loss of power, emissions control…”. I had not seen alerts prior to this incident, and was not aware of changes in performance other than a recent, minor, decrease in fuel efficiency. Fortunately, I was able to safely exit the freeway & park in a nearby shopping center. My vehicle was towed to the local dealer, marin Honda. After a week of evaluation, and consulting with Honda America tech support, the dealer reports difficulty isolating the problem and determining appropriate repair. At this time a cracked piston has been identified, and the plan is for a technician to use a barescope to evaluate the cylinder for damage, and the potential need to replace the engine. I am concerned that multiple owners of this model & year have reported the same problem, including loss of power while traveling at high speed (see crv owners club) their vehicles were also determined to have cracked pistons, with and without cylinder damage. It has also been noted that when the fuel injector remains open it may be a contributing factor to a cracked piston. Could this be relevant to the current recall issued for the fuel pump on the 2024 crv? whatever the cause, the potential for catastrophic engine failure places drivers and their passengers, as well as other drivers, at great risk of a serious accident.
Driving on an [xxx] near st pauls nc at 70mph the engine shut off. Annunciator came on stop now engine is quitting. Check engine light came on. We were in a construction zone so there were barriers blocking the shoulders. We were in a high risk of someone behind ramming into us. We coasted to the exit which was 1/2 mile away. We exited at 2mph. We were very fortunate that no one from the rear, hit us. There was a tractor trailer behind us who put his flashers on, realizing the issue stayed behind us to keep cars from hitting us. All warning lights came on, first engine then all of the safety warnings. Car would not run. It was towed to a Honda dealer in fayetteville. Honda analyzed the issue as a misfire resulting in engine damage. They performed a boroscope and found 3 piston cracked. Honda after 3 weeks installed a new short block and fuel injectors. Car was one year old with 6280 miles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
3 check engine lights came on when my car was transitioning from electric to gas while I was sitting idle. I towed my brand new car (6500 miles) to the Honda dealership and they diagnosed it as faulty fuel injectors, a bad spark plug, and a bad ignition coil. The dealer said this is a widespread issue and they have been servicing this type of issue very frequently.
New vehicle with 3000 miles. Shaking and idling when car is switching from hybrid to combustion injection. Typically noticed at idle, when in stop and go traffic. Honda determined fuel injectors were the reason behind misfires and replaced the direct fuel injectors as well as the rack.
Fuel injectors failed on all 4 cylinders. They replaced them, still having issue. Blown head gasket was what they diagnosed next and repaired. Picked up vehicle, when driving it down the interstate (70 mph speed limit) the check engine light started flashing. An error came up indicating a critical failure. Vehicle stopped accelerating and would not move, luckily I was able to coast to the emergency lane. American Honda states they want to replace the cylinder head now.
Car was only a couple months old. Started shuttering and losing power while driving on freeway, all wheel drive function cut out also. No lights or indication of a problem until a couple of days later. Took to dealer, turns out the fuel injectors failed. Mostly with the 2024 crv hybrids, but seems that other 6th gen years are affected also. Contacted Honda corporate office and they are pretending to not know of any issues, even though a simple google search will show many other people are reporting the same thing.
It is making like diesel trucks sound with vibrations while accelerating the speed! since few days.
A sudden acceleration occurred while pulling into a diagonal parking spot causing the car to hit the vehicle parked in front.
The Honda of downtown chicago dealership has informed us that there is a fuel injector problem with this vehicle. On 8/11/24 it caused the vehicle to cycle through a series of errors before it stopped accelerating on the highway with our young son inside, and eventually stopped moving altogether after we were able to get off on an exit. When the car failed, we were given a final power system warning. It should be noted that we took the vehicle to the Honda of downtown chicago dealership months prior for a the same kind of warning lights (emissions warning, lane departure warning, etc) and a very loud rumbling noise. At that time, the servicing team at the dealership did not disclose that it was or could be a fuel injector issue. Instead, they said that the computer just needed to be “reset” and that the rumbling could be attributed to the vehicle being a hybrid. At this time, the vehicle is with the Honda dealership for repair. They have not provided a timeline for repair or provided a loaner car.
The vehicle starts shaking heavily, with clanking noise and other different noises. It usually happens when it change from engine mode to hybrid mode. When this happens it suddenly starts flashing all kind of failure messages, and ultimately check engine light is on. And during this time the engine makes too much noise and also shakes heavily. My car is fairly new, less than 5000 miles. Dealer is also not exactly sure about the issue. Sometimes they are saying, some bolts were loose, and sometimes they are saying it is software problem.
I was driving back thorne to illinois on the highway from florida vacation. My car shut off and could not continue to accelerate, at this point I’m in georgia on [xxx] . I pulled over to the shoulder my car would not start. I towed it to Honda and they didn’t find the issue because there were no codes coming up and let us go home. Car turned on next morning and we continued to drive home. Well before we got to nashville tennessee the car shut off on the highway again. We towed it to Honda again in tennessee this time. We had to catch a ride home because Honda said it was unsafe to drive the car and they kept it to repair it. They said both fuel pumps were not working and that they were going to order those parts and replace them. And go from there. And now they have called me saying they have replaced the fuel pump but the car is still having the same issues and the engineers says to start replacing thing and to start with the pcm and go from there. Currently the car is still at Honda tennessee and they’re awaiting to get the pcm delivered to replace it in the car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When car is idle and hybrid battery switches to gasoline engine the engine shakes violently and warning lamps and messages for engine and transmission error come on. It's becoming more of a problem and dealerships do not know how to correctly diagnosis it. I've taken my car to the dealership twice and still the problems occur. I believe that the fuel injectors are faulty straight from the manufacture. In some cases the car can shut off on its own.
Continuous problems with illegal entry into vehicle, I have "blocked all android auto on my mobile phone" and changed carrier service , but still illegal entry is being made by the dealership clonning my fab key tracking all movement and when I park and enter markets or department stores criminals continue to illegally make entry into my vehicle and spraying chemicals in my vehicles causing faint spells and stomach. Irritation, this is the second Honda , my 2022 Honda Cr-v and now my 2024 Honda Cr-v. This is a ongoing problem with my second Honda Cr-v. I strongly believe this is a highway safety issue and maybe the causing traffic accidents, I believe that the problem is due to criminal activity and is happening to other drivers safety.
When starting the vehicle engine shakes and rattles, when motor is idling and charging the ev battery and also when going from ev to gas and gas to ev engine shakes and rattles. When accelerating the engine shakes and rattles. Engine feels sluggish and a loud ticking noise can be heard. Seems the engine is struggling and accelerating it feels the engine rocks back and forth. When transmission is changing gears I also feel the engine rock back and forth.
I almost got into accident twice by using auto engine stop/start feature at traffic light. Traffic light was green and the car in front of me turned right but they were too slow to turn which I had to hit my break. Due to hitting my break, the car thought I was stop/idle so it turned engine off. When the car turned engine off, it basically got hiccups or stalls for few second and the car behind me almost hitting me as traffic light was green to go. You can only temporarily turn off this feature and it will default turn on when the car starts which will lead to accidents in matter of time if I forgot to turn it off every time I start the car. Honda should update software to allow customers to turn it off permanently if they want to instead default on.
Recall dated oct 3, 2024 improper produced steering gearbox worm wheel (NHTSA) not addressed, also illegal forced entry is being made into Honda Cr-v using vehicle fob keys are being made for all Honda Cr-v wit a fob key kit sold by amazon key kit made by horand, forced illegal entry is being made "everyday and while traveling" three visits have been made to bell Honda phoenix, who " dealership manager denied any problem" and is not willing to make any repairs to electrical system or reprogram system or key !.
Hybrid cr_v when at a stop, the vehicle has started acerating on its own when I remove foot from brake. Iin the 4 months, it has started moving slowly on its own when brake released, and I haven't touched gas pedal yet 2 time it started acerating faster and faster until brake was applied. Took it to dealer, they cannot duplicate and weren't very helpful in trying it figure it yet. Vehicle has brake hold feature and shouldn't move forward till gas is applied.
I put my Honda crv hybid away in my garage while it was running on battery power. It is silent when not in gear and operating on battery power. The key fob was in the car. I forgot to shut off the power switch before getting out of the car. When the battery drained, the engine started, filling the garage with exhaust, creating an extremely dangerous, and perhaps life threatening condition.
On Nov. 15, 2023, this vehicle had an episode of unintended acceleration as I was pulling into our garage. This resulted in the front end of the car crashing into material that was stored against a garage wall. I contacted the dealership immediately, and the car was towed to them. They stated that no computer error codes were found. A Honda certified repair center was recommended. . The car was towed to this repair center. It cost approximately $18,000 to repair the car and took 10 weeks. I also contacted american Honda to report the issue. I was told that I should call again after the repairs were finished and that additional testing would be done. I did call Honda after the repairs were done but did not hear back from them. I drove the car from the end of January 2024 until November 2024. At that time a second episode of unintended acceleration occurred on 11-14-2024, also while I was pulling into my garage. This caused damage to the right front end of the car and to the garage wall. I feel that this car is not safe to drive. I am concerned about a recurrence of unintended acceleration putting myself and others at risk. I have elected not to have the damage from the second accident repaired since I will not be driving this car again. I contacted american Honda again after the second incident. I provided them with documentation of the damage to the car along with insurance claims and repair bills. The case is now in the mediation department at american Honda. I am waiting to hear back from them. Fortunately, I was not physically injured during either accident. The vehicle is available for inspection. The answer to the other questions is no.
The car makes loud noise when the speed was about 50-60 mph on a highway, the rpm went above 50 - 75. It wouldn't accelerate as I pushed the gas pedal. It's not moving as required. It was scary. It's dangerous. Something is wrong with the system, or transmission. Please fix it. Thanks.
