Honda CR-V owners have reported 164 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.
If the car is parked outside on a day where temperatures exceed 95 degrees fahrenheit, it causes the front sensor camera to malfunction. This is a common issue with crvs and is heavily documented in online forums. The overheating results in the vehicle’s features dependent on the camera and sensors to malfunction, causing a serious driving safety issues. The car’s audible notification system also goes off, resulting in constant beeping chimes while driving the vehicle.

I was driving from los angeles to las vegas on the I-15 freeway with moderate traffic, going approximately 70 mph. I was traveling in the #1 (left most) lane. I had been using adaptive cruise control (acc) for several hours without any problems. Acc started behaving differently: instead of automatically applying the brakes when the vehicle in front slowed down, I had to press the break peddle manually. This happed twice before the car suddenly, unexpectedly, applied full braking force. I had to take emergency action to avoid being hit by the vehicle behind me and quickly move onto the left shoulder. My vehicle completed its stop on the shoulder. A message flashed on the instrument panel (I believe it was related to the brakes), I was too busy getting off the road to read it. After the vehicle stopped, the brakes released, and I was again able to drive. I turned off acc and re-entered the freeway (with some difficulty, as traffic was moving very fast). We continued our journey to our destination without cruise control activated. There were no further problems. I took my vehicle into the dealer when I returned from our trip. They inspected it and checked for codes. There were no codes. They did a short test drive and had no problems. The said vehicle needed software updates and did them. Updated ebb, evps, and updated acc/cmbs and pgm f/I software.

At 9k miles excessive noise, sounds like a helicopter. Dealership confirmed all four tires were scalped, did an alignment and thought it might correct the problem. It has not, both the dealer and corporate Honda refused to correct. Adaptive cruise control malfunction, major safety hazard. When engaged the car unexpectedly stops at all speeds on highway or rural roads, with no cars in sight in front of the vehicle. Have experienced multiple incidents or near rear end collisions because of abrupt braking. When brought to dealer they claimed they couldn't find any error codes, thought that maybe dirt was on the two radar sensing units. . . Not the case, still continues to be an issue. Car turns off unexpectedly. . . On an on ramp to a highway, traffic was stopped. When traffic started moving the car turned off completely. . . Warning light stated see dealer. Put the car in park and restarted vehicle, brought to dealer who claimed no error codes. All the above happened at the 9k miles, none of the major safety hazard issues were confirmed by the dealer or corporate Honda. Am at a loss as to next steps. Please advise, thanks.

Warning lights: adaptive cruise control fault. Lane departure fault collision avoidance fault and emissions check engine. Diagnosed fix: fuel injectors malfunctioning. This making the emissions light come on making all the other warning lights to go off. Fixed at a local Honda dealer. Not really a fix less then 24 hours later the same warning lights came back on however now a huge loss of power and loud engine noise when stepping on throttle. Just dropped off at dealer again to be diagnosed again.
All warning lights are active on the dash touch screen and the ip. The warning is audible and visual and cycling rapidly and very annoying. Dangerous when driving as a distraction making driving after dark very dangerous. This is the second time in a year this same problem has happened. We are the original owners of the car bought from art mohen Honda in jackson michigan in 2017. The first incident was intermittent and the touch screen would clear. Unrelated to the computer problem we we in a collision and during the repair process the car was taken to art mohen Honda and faults were cleared on the computer. This lasted 7 months and now the computer is in complete fault as discribed above.

I was driving in town so, each block has either a stop sign or a traffic light. I realized that my brake pad seemed to get spongy. At the red light as I was nervous that there was something wrong I looked down and seen a light blinking but, it was my oil light. After heading to the next block my brakes were suddenly not doing anything and the pedal went down to the floor. I was not going fast so I decided that if I had to I would pull the emergency brake. I did that as well to no avail. I went to the closest parking lot and checked all my fluid. My oil was fine, my brake fluid was low. I added brake fluid and went on my way. The following day I left my home as usual and another light came on. The oxygen sensor. I'm not sure why the vehicle is doing this as I do keep up with maintenance. I have spoken with a mechanic , his assessment was it could be anything yet seems to be electrical. I did some research do to the fact that my car has been with me since 2009 (used). I would love to keep my car for as many more years as possible but, I also have to be safe. At this point it has to be something wrong with the products I'm using on my vehicle.

It's happened 3 times now. Car "phantom breaks" at highway speeds. Clear and open road. Then every single warning light the car has comes on. When you lose power, you can accelerate. Last time it happened I was nearly rear ended by 2 cars. Honda cannot figure it out. They keep putting bandaids on this issue but the reality is they can't duplicate and more of the same issues are popping up online from 6th generation owners. The crv has a major issue. It's only a matter of time before there is another recall. I want to start the lemon process as Honda has had my car for more than a month and on 3 different occasions and cannot give me an answer. It's all fluff, pushing me closer and closer to my warranty expiring. Picture submitted shows all warning lights. I.
Multi purpose camera failure that impacts the safety features in my vehicle. Many people have reported this, however Honda still hasn’t created a recall on it. Dealership wants $1900 to replace, but this is a safety feature how is this not on Honda to handle?.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - the adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - the system is reading that other cars on my passenger side usually or coming on or off the exit ramps on the interstate as cars in front of me. In turn the system directs the car to slow down and then at some points break hard while driving at highway speeds. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - the technician at the Honda dealer told me just to turn it off as its better to have it off than on. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - there has not been an accident as of current that would warrant an inspection. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - the adaptive showing the car in front, showing the word brake on the Mini dash and then you can also feel the gradual to almost complete stop of the car when this occurs. The main place to see is the outline will fill up as if a car is in front, but one is not.
When driving at 70-75 mph with adaptive cruise set, the steering wheel feels like it locks and won’t turn but when you add force, it breaks loose. This is not lane keeping assist, it is something different. It is getting worse but the Honda dealership says they can’t replicate it. It appears to be getting worse over time and I’m afraid it could cause an accident by completely locking up the steering wheel.
Vehicle suddenly starts showing all warnings lights on dashboard, including: - adaptive cruise control? - collision mitigation? - road departure mitigation? - vehicle stability assist? - hill start assist? - electric parking brake? - tire pressure monitoring and many more.
Honda has all these controls on their steering wheel that can accidentally be turned on, even while driving, and have any of those adaptive functions suddenly start working. For example, twice already I was driving and somehow the "lane keeping assistance" turned on. My steering wheel was shaking and I couldnt control it, get it to stop. It frightened me & the first time I pulled over on the side of the road thinking my cars tie-rods have broken. It did it again last night and I was really frightened. My husband reached over & turned it off. He said I must have turned it on while holding the steering wheel. I had another function "lane depature warning" turn on when I was trying to switch lanes. I was fighting with the steering wheel. The paddles on the wheel are also a hazard. I reached for the turn signal & hit a paddle. I dont know what the hell these do & I was freaking out thinking what did I just turn on now that we make me lose control of the car. These functions should not be something that can be turned on once the car is started. I have never had any issues with cruise control on any car I own. I really do not like this car. I'm scared. I will need to drive my husbands mercedes because I fear the Honda crv. I cant return the car. How many people have been in accidents or killed because they functions can turn themselves on without the driver knowing they did. This is not a nuisance, this is a accident waiting to happen. Please, something needs to be done. I spent $40k on a disaster. Thank you.

All of the warning lights came up on my dash and stayed on for almost 24 hours on this most recent occasion of this problem indicating that there was all of the following: emissions systems problem, brake system problem, power steering system problem, vsa problem, hill start assist problem, adaptive cruise control, problem, road departure mitigation, and hill start assist problem. This was approximately the 5th time that this has happened. The problem occurred when I turned the car back on and started to drive after it had been turned off for 10 minutes. This problem seems to be triggered by 2 different events: either idling (like in a drive thru line for a long time) the car, or, after starting the car after it has been turned off of a short period of time. The previous incidence of this problem was on January 7, 2024.
The vehicle randomly starts flashing every warning message across the info screen, all steering and cruise functions become disabled. No codes when scanned, can't reset the displaty warnings but clears on its own sometimes, then comes back randonmly. Dealer has been no help and cant fix. Warning that display are: collision itigation system, road departure mitigation system problem, brake proble< steering problem and more.
All driver assistance functions (adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking, collision warning, lane departure, lane keep assist, and probably the blind spot warning too) failed simultaneously, as indicated by warning lights and messages on the instrument panel. (also failing were the brake hold function, and the parking brake, and the brake failure light was also illuminated, though the brakes did appear to function. ) (the check engine light also illuminated, though the engine continued to operate. ) the root cause of the failure (as determined by the dealer) was failed fuel injectors causing the engine to run too rich. Yes, it is odd that failed fuel injectors cause a complete and total failure of the driver assistance features, but apparently this is not an uncommon failure mode for this particular problem on this model of engine.
The adaptive cruise control causes the vehicle to brake when close to another vehicle when in different lanes of traffic on highway/freeway turns. The adaptive cruise does not appear to communicate with the lane departure system and thus doesn't realize other vehicles are in different lanes. This has occurred 3 times in the 2 weeks I have owned the vehicle. The adaptive cruise control does not understand the vehicles are in different lanes causing it to brake for no reason when turning as the radar only points forward. Adaptive cruise does not warn the driver that it is detecting a problem and/or reacting to a detection, it brakes very hard due to thinking the two vehicles are about to collide despite being in different lanes and thus a collision will not happen. Vehicle has not been inspected by dealership, manufacturer, police, or insurance.
Multiple times my vehicle has flashed "brake" when there was no object in front of me. At times there were shadows from trees that I thought may have prompted the warning. But in the past 6 weeks during interstate driving and adaptive cruise control engaged, the vehicle brakes for no reason. This can happen several times in just a short distance, or sometimes I can drive 25 miles and it doesn't happen at all. There is no rhyme or reason to the frequency. Most of the time it drops the speed about 5 mph but keeps the cruise engaged at that new speed. I have never let it drop more than 15 mph for fear of causing an issue with other drivers. This past week it applied the brakes just as a semi truck moved into my lane behind me at a close distance. I was afraid the truck would rear-end me. I have received the following warnings in the instrument panel: "road departure mitigation system problem", "collision mitigation system problem", and "adaptive cruise control problem. My husband took pictures of the warnings as they appeared while I was driving. Honda diagnostics could not identify even one code.
Car stops suddenly on highway, going into, "limp mode. " all dash warning lights came on. Rich emissions. Vtm-4 issue. This is an ongoing issue with Cr-vs, yet manufacturer has issues no solution, clearly opting to work each situation independently. Therefore, manufacturer saves the time and money associated with these repairs.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph with the cruise control activated, she noticed traffic stopped ahead and depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was able to stop immediately; however, when the contact released the brake pedal, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated and crashed into another vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The front driver's side air bag deployed. The failure recurred when the contact released the brake pedal while the engine was revving. The contact depressed the brake pedal and shifted the transmission into park (p). The vehicle was then turned off. The contact's hands were burned as a result of the air bag deployment, but she did not receive medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard but was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

All warning lights on the auto’s dash will spontaneously light up and start alarming while I’m driving. This has been happening since I bought the car, I have brought it into the dealer and written the dealer multiple times about this. It seems to be worse in the summer when the air conditioning is running and has also happened occasionally in the winter with the heat running but much less frequently. The Honda service center is not able to identify the problem. It is very distracting and dangerous when this happens on the highway.
When snow gets on the front Honda logo all safety functions shut down and a screen comes on and says “clean area showing) so I pulled over on the next off ramp and clean the snow and mush off the emblem and with in the next 10mi it comes back on. . This happened to me 4x coming from fort wayne indiana to noblesville indiana. Went to the Honda forum and it a common problem. It wasn’t that bad out to be doing this. . No cruise control no lane departure no auto braking no safety features at all until you clean the front logo.
Steering is very noisy hard to drive lane departure comes on and makes car drive out of lane of traffic then brake assist kicks in and stands me on my head I have taken to dealership they can’t get the car to do it they tell me turn off all the features and drive it I feel very unsafe in it I want the problems fixed or I will call my attorney.

All warning lights have been illuminated for several months. On occassion will turn off, but only for 1-2 days then back on again for another few weeks. After on-line research learned this is a very common problem for this make/model/year that Honda is not acknowledging as an issue. Honda dealer service technician diagnosed what I already knew that car needs new fuel injectors. Most safety features and cruise control do not function as a result. Parts are on backorder.
When driving the car will false brake or alert to brake when nothing is directly in front of the car. Many instances the car will catch a car in the lane beside it and brake because it thinks the car is in front of it and will begin alerts and braking the car while driving on the interstate. Internal electronics like the infotainment will stop working and no longer play music, pull information from device when trying to connect via bluetooth or usb. Had many occurrences where the port will respond with bad usb and not connect. Only fix to get it working in the meantime has been factory resets. Have had to perform over 30 in the year of ownership.
My steering jerks hard left and corrects it self it also excels been braking, cranking the wheel turns freely and the car is very unsafe to drive I can lose control of the vehicle. All emergency lights are on steering wheel light exclamation point tps light among other things. I was told the eps systems isn't working the steering control module, steering rack and all sensors replaced Honda dealership also let me know this has been a common problem with crv years 16,17,18 I have no recalls on my car presently. I also want to add my father has the same 2016 Honda crv and his is failing as well. This repair is mandatory and is very expensive over 6 thousand dollars and Honda is denying to call a recall for this issue. This is a major safety issue and should be brought to attention. I am very sure that are many. Many customers out there that have experienced the same thing, and that should be reimbursed for them. Selves having to pay thousands of dollars to repair their car. Unfortunately, my car is worth $9000. As it stands. That is over half the cost of the car.

Warning lights kept cycling thru and dinging every half second. Took it to dealer and it is a faulty front camera in the windshield. They said they see it all the time and immediately diagnosed it. Said it is a faulty design and costs ~$1,700.
Our vehicle started to jerk whenever it is at low gear. The check engine light goes on and off. The traction control light goes on and off. And an error code came p060a. The vehicle has stalled 2x after moderately jerking multiple times while driving @ 50m/hr. The air conditioning blows hot air after a few minutes of it running. We have checked recalls for the particular make, model and year and it is showing the classic vehicle recalls from Honda. Unfortunately, our VIN number shows that it was not part of the recalled vehicle. We have gone through Honda hoping that they could at least do a diagnostic run and verify if it is a possible recall issue, but they will only do it if we pay for everything. Please help.

On January 19, 2024 my wife was driving the crv when it suddenly slammed on the brakes bringing the car to a full stop. The dashboard screen said object detected. It was a violent stop, so much so that she thought she had been rear-ended. Luckily, she was not going very fast and the car behind her was able to stop without hitting her. If it had happened at a higher speed on a busier road she and others could have been injured or killed in a crash. She called me crying and upset and could not get off the road because the problem repeated four or five more times. We had the dealership come pick up the car and they found code "p2583-54" for the radar system aiming incomplete stored in the car. They performed a static and dynamic re-aiming of the radar and said it was ok. We felt the vehicle was unsafe and entered into arbitration with ncds. The manufacturer never explained what the cause of the radar malfunction was (such as faulty hardware, rushed manufacturing, etc) and expressly stated that they could not guarantee the problem would not happen again. There had been snow and ice present on that day. The sensors had problems (different alarms and sounds but no phantom braking) again on Feb. 16th. These dates are the only two significant snowfall days we have had since purchasing the vehicle. We feel the vehicle is unsafe in any amount of snow or ice and think an investigation should occur into the radar system so that a recall can be issued so that nobody gets hurt or killed. Thank you.
All the warning lights come on. When they do, none of the features work including cruise control and advanced vehicle detection.
Seems like this is an on going issue Honda safety systems failing around 30k miles. Loss of all systems vsa, rms, acc, cms. Prior to all loss, the system would out of the blue activate when there was no cause. System will not reset and all dash warnings are on all started when the front right wheel might have had a slip issue going through a puddle of water. With the large amounts of failures, Honda needs to step up and fix these issues as it is now a guaranteed profit maker for their dealers as estimated cost is 1800 dollars, pretty stiff for fixed ss income.
Video is attached. Apon starting my car I can have a electrical/computer problem where all my safety systems start flashing problems or warnings. This can go on for a week and then disappear. When on I loose my cruise control, emergency braking and warning, low tire light stays on and other emergency systems show failure. My dealership said it could be low fuel pressure but not sure. Car runs great. I should not loose safety systems if pressure is low. I will be going back in and have a serious talk with service supervisor. Again I have attached a video of the drivers dash. Program doesn't allow me to upload files.
What I experienced was a multiple system failure. It began with a dead battery two years ago. When the engine was restarted the tpms light came on along with the indicator light to get your car checked. The lights only came on intermittently at first and it didn't seem to affect the function of the car. I had assumed that when I replaced the battery, I had loosened a fuse. As time passed, the number of lights on the dashboard increased along with the duration of time they stayed lit up. Now, within the past 3 months, all the system indicator lights are on constantly, with the accompanying beeps, dings and sounds for each light. Yesterday, on the highway, my dashboard began to dim and the vehicle began to stutter. The dashboard indicator read critical failure detected. Stop driving when safe. At the time I was on the highway in the right lane going 51 mph. This is unsafe. I have children and grandchildren and I do not feel safe transporting any of them. The reported problems are: brake system, tire pressure monitor, electric parking brake, road departure mitigation system, collision mitigation system, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, hill start assist, vehicle stability assist, anti-lock brake, power steering system.
When I am in adaptive cruise control mode, and I am in the left lane and a large vehicle like a semi-truck or a pickup truck pulling a large trailer is in the right lane passes me, from time to time it will engage the braking system even though there is nothing in front of my vehicle. Recently it has also been happening if I am in the right lane and vehicle exits the highway on an off ramp. I have been lucky to date that no vehicle was behind me when the braking system engaged, or there would have been an accident. This issue has been occurring ever since I bought the 2020 crv new and have brought it to the attention of the dealer several times, and they say they could not find an issue. My last scheduled maintenance appointment they recommended recalibrating the system, and the issue is still there.
Took my Honda crv 2021 ex in because all of my warning lights (critical failure) were going off as I was driving. All safety features were failing including awd control, braking, sensors, cruise control, etc. They replaced the battery and tested the alternator. They reset the system and said it was fixed. I picked mine up today, drove it for 10 mins on the highway and then hit the "main" button on the stearing wheel to turn on the cruise control. As soon as I did that, all of the warning lights came on at the same time and the systems started to fail again. This is a hazard and could cause an accident at any moment. In reviewing the Honda forums, this is a massive problem with hundreds of Honda crv ex 2020-2022 models. I'm 7000 miles over my warrant and Honda won't look at it. However, it is directly their problem and my car is only 2 years old.
