Honda CR-V owners have reported 10 problems related to rearview system braking (under the back over prevention category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.
Since purchasing over a year ago recurring failure of the rear-view backup camera system, resulting in a black and white image, coupled with dangerous malfunctions of the integrated rear cross traffic monitor (rctm) system. Detailed description of safety hazard the backup camera image repeatedly reverts from color to black and white, making it significantly harder to distinguish critical objects like pedestrians, curbs, and other vehicles, especially in low-light conditions. Crucially, this malfunction is directly affecting the vehicle's active safety systems: 1. Failure to detect cross traffic: the rear cross traffic monitor (rctm) often fails to warn of approaching vehicles, pedestrians, or objects when backing out of a parking space. This eliminates a vital safety feature and creates a high risk of a back-over collision. 2. False cross traffic warnings & unintended braking: the system also frequently provides false warnings for non-existent cross traffic, which can cause the vehicle to momentarily lock the brakes up (auto-brake) without driver input. This sudden and unintended stopping during a maneuver is unpredictable, startling, and poses a risk of creating an accident, especially if a vehicle is maneuvering behind me. The system was previously serviced, including camera replacement, but the issue returned within a few weeks. This recurring failure presents a serious and ongoing safety defect that requires immediate repair of the core system components (likely the infotainment unit or wiring harness) to restore both the image and the reliability of the safety sensors.

Rear traffic alert and e-braking not working or working intermittently. Vehicle is supposed to alert you to cross traffic and does not. . . Maybe works 1 out of 6 occurences. When you place the vehicle in reverse and proceed backwards, the rear of the vehicle appears on the screen but, does not alert you when a vehicle is approaching on the street that you are backing onto. Does not matter if it the vehicle comes from the left or right. Same can be said for pedestrians or bicycles - which it is supposed to detect. This has resulted in emergency stops nearly striking vehicle or bicyclist. This safety feature is pretty much useless and as such have turned it off. I researched this issue on reddit and various forums. It appears to be common in 2023-2025 Honda crv hybrid sport l. We owned a 2019 Honda crv with the same cross-traffic alert and it worked very reliably. Not the case for our brand new 2025 crv hybrid.
Honda case#: 15542096. Rear camera will go black and white intermittently. Rear camera replaced under warranty at under 6k miles 9/25/25, however, problem still persists randomly. Attached pics on 3/22/25 and 4/2/25 are examples of this issue I witnessed and obtained photo of. Dealership says they cannot duplicate and cannot proceed forward with repair or diagnosis on 3/18/25 ro#377440 with just under 15k miles. No rhyme or reason for random occurrences other than seems to happen when weather changes drastically (cold or rain). It's a safety issue because black and white is a deviance from normality and it is not discerning enough with the low quality resolution camera used to prevent backing up into someone or something. Color helps the eye discern shapes, people, and things better protecting objects from damage and life from harm. Honda and the dealership so far has refused to take action or solve even though the car is under warranty.
The Honda dealership replaced the steering gear box as required by the recent recall. After picking up my vehicle, I noticed that the blindspot alert system was not working. The cross traffic monitor was not working. The side mirror was not beeping nor lighting up. The arrows and beeping did not occur when vehicles were driving behind me while in reverse. It appears that the sensors/radar had been disconnected or disabled although the dash settings show that they are on. After taking the vehicle back, the dealership lied and said that my 2024 Honda crv ex had never been equipped with those sensors. They were working perfectly fine before I took the vehicle in. The dealership is denying fraudulent activity and jeopardizing the safety equipment of my vehicle and the safety of myself and others. I bought the ex model specifically because of those standard features. Honda should repair and replace any damaged or removed sensors as a result of the dealers errors and fraudulent activity.
When putting the car in reverse, the rear camera image is usually black and white instead of color, which is unsafe because of the lack of contrast. It will also strobe between black and white and color, which is also unsafe and annoying. I took it to the dealer today (all star Honda in abilene TX) and they said Honda knows about the problem but doesn't have a fix yet. I've looked online at the Honda Cr-v owners group and redditt and see many complaints posted. . . So I'm guessing NHTSA knows about it, but just wanted to make sure. . . . And I want my brand new car defect fixed. . . . And I want Honda to stop manufacturing cars with this known defect.
Rear camera stopped working, just shows a pink screen on the dashboard.

When the vehicle is put into reverse, the backup camera comes on but the backup guidance system does not come on at times. This may cause a potential for collision when backing the vehicle and is a safety issue.

System does not alert until a vehicle is directly behind our vehicle or does not alert at all. Vehicle was purchased 3 days ago. The front assist does not work or will work after you pull too far forward and already tapped the curb. We stood in front of and side of vehicle and alarm did not sound at all.
Every earring light comes on the dashboard at the same time. This has happened several times over the past year. The car abruptly stopped when I was traveling 30mph. The orange break light flashed and the car stopped itself when coming across a metal plate in the road. Luckily there wasn't any vehicle behind me or I would have been in an accident. Dealer said several software updates were needed and the a/c control panel needed replaced. Plus and oil change was needed in order to replace the a/c control panel. I have owned the vehicle since March 2020. I have taken it to the dealer for all oil changes and servicing since I've owned the car. I told the tech last oil change about the warning light issue and he said just drive the car in next time it happened because they needed the vehicle while it was happening.
