Honda CR-V owners have reported 149 problems related to warnings (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.
Forward braking system came on while traveling approximately 25 mph with no car in front of me. The system showed flashing braking light then car applied the brakes hard causing me to drop to a very slow speed. I was fortunate to not get rear ended. The braking system intermittently shows lights for no reason but has never applied the brakes before. I brought this to the dealer while it was still under warranty and explained the lights came on for no reason while no car was in front of me and was told it was working properly. This is a huge safety concern that Honda seems to be dismissing. Thank you.

I get a random warning to brake when nothing is in front of me. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. P. S. I can not answer the questions below for some unknown reason. The dates vary and the car had approximately 30,000 miles.

Yesterday, my car was working fine. This afternoon October 1, 2024, when I turned on the engine I saw a prompt “cmbs problem” on the screen. Warning signs/lamps lit up as well, 1. Adaptive control cruise problem, road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem, and auto high beam problem. I have not contacted the dealership about this current issue because I plan to go to the dealership to do my oil change this coming Saturday 10/05/2024. Just an fyi, they still haven’t addressed my recall ( the 2017-22 fuel pump mtr saf recall exp2). At this time, no injury happened, but I am definitely scared of my safety using my car.
There are actually two issues that are going on with this car. First off, on three separate occasions, while driving at 70 mph on the freeway in traffic, my car has braked for me and the collision warning went off. However, there was nobody in front of me. The person behind me almost rear ended my vehicle on the last occasion this has happened. Now, my car is undrivable. Three times, all my sensor lights went off. The first time, we changed the battery, thinking the battery was dying. The second time, we took it to affordable autobody in murrieta, CA. They ran a diagnostic and stated that we did not reset the computer when the battery was changed. The third time all the sensor lights went on, we took it to dch temecula, CA. They ran a diagnostic and said that it was the fuel injectors. Our mechanic stated that the fuel injectors are going bad due to a bad fuel pump. My car has been sitting at the dealership for more than a week, undrivable. We contacted claims department, but no action has been taken. Dch temecula states they have no available fuel pumps and will not fix the injectors unless the claims department orders it. I have left without a loaner car, stranded. Nobody seems to be taking this seriously and there is no time frame as to when this situation will be fixed. It is becoming a huge inconvenience not having a way to get to work. Please help!.

The car's forward collision warning system is defective. The car will randomly bring up "brake" on the dashboard with nothing even close to the car. This has started happening many times over the past few weeks, with even at least one instance of the car braking on its own. I brought this up to the dealership during my last oil change recently, and they inspected and looked into it. They said there was nothing wrong with the sensors/system and they documented it (specifically saying no problem found vehicle is operating normally at this time). However, a day or two after the dealership, the problem returned and it continues to persist. In addition to this, the blind spot warning system also randomly goes off when nothing is nearby, but not as often as the braking system, which is more dangerous in my opinion.

While driving all the warning lights for every vehicle system came on. I was just pulling onto a highway when this occured and was not sure to pull to the side for fear vehicle was going to have a problem, especially when the alerts for break system failure came on.
The forward collision warning and braking has activated a couple of times without any car front of me for a wide distance or when everything is all clear. It also happened a couple of times when turning a curve or exiiting, also without any car in front of me. The only thing I could notice was the dashboard flashing but I could not read it because I had to focus on the road.
Forward collision warning breaking even though nobody is in front of me.
The collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. The car would be available for inspection upon request. After the light turned green I entered the intersection, going approx 20mph, when suddenly the car braked on its own without a car/object in front of my vehicle. I could hear the beeping from the collision mitigation system at the same time. Since I did not know the car was about to stop, I was unable to prevent my dog from falling forward and striking the dashboard. Although myself, my dog and the people behind me were at risk, no injuries were sustained. The person behind me was able to stop luckily. I will be scheduling yet another diagnostic with Honda, though I just did that a few months ago when all the warning lights came on. After the injectors were replaced at that time, they were able to turn off the warning lights. I do not believe they will be able to recreate the problem.

I was driving my mother's 2018 Honda Cr-v at a steady rate of about 30 mph when there was a warning chirp and the car suddenly braked hard and came to a complete stop. At that time, I was at least 30 feet behind the car in front and both my car and the one in front were traveling at the same speed. I can only assume that the collision avoidance system kicked in unexpectedly. After stopping, I restarted the car and proceeded normally, with no warning lights showing.
On July 19, 2024, I was driving around 30-35 miles an hour. There were no cars close to me either in front or the back or side. My car started to abruptly slow down in a jerking fashion and then the car beeped. It scared me. It didn't stop completely and then the car started moving normally. If a car was behind me, I could have been hit in the rear. The message "brake" did not come on which is supposed to be the first stage in the forward collision safety. This never happened before and now I feel like I have to turn off the safety feature. My 2017 Cr-v has 23,000 mi.
If the car is parked outside on a day where temperatures exceed 95 degrees fahrenheit, it causes the front sensor camera to malfunction. This is a common issue with crvs and is heavily documented in online forums. The overheating results in the vehicle’s features dependent on the camera and sensors to malfunction, causing a serious driving safety issues. The car’s audible notification system also goes off, resulting in constant beeping chimes while driving the vehicle.

All of the alerts for the adas system would all come on alerting everything had failed. This had three times now over a course of a year. Once driving two while starting or parked. After two reboots of the system and a little drive the alerts go away. Also the stereo display had gone black because it lost connection. A reboot fixes that too. That’s been happening longer. Asked the dealer to check for firmware updates. They said there are five for her car after they checked it. We had it on for an oil change. They told us first it would cost 100, then they changed to almost 500 because it was 5 updates. This could be a real safety concern since you will never know if something has failed or not. If it’s their software engineers making the mistakes with coding, why do we have to pay for them updating it so it’s correct. I have no problem doing this myself, most car companies allow this, Honda will not with our 2017 even though there is a setting to do it. I just have no way of getting the files. Please help.
While driving without any surrounding traffic I have experienced three instances where the collision warning system will be triggered and initiate emergency braking. At this time, I have not had any collisions. However, I have ensured after each incident that my collision settings were set to the lowest sensitivity to prevent such an occurrence. However, that has not been the case and I have not been able to receive any assistance from the dealership in relation to this matter.
The cmbs suddenly engaged the brakes when there was no other vehicle on the road no less in front of the vehicle. The brakes very forcefully engaged causing the vehicle to slam to a stop. The light has come on previously on occasion with no cause but the brakes have never been engaged till now.
While driving in cruise control on two lane roads, vehicle will brake hard during curves and going up rolling hill sections even if there are no vehicles or obstructions ahead. This vehicle experienced an overheated camera system at 4500 miles and was in the shop for 3 months for repair. The above described condition occurred before complete camera failure made all safety features not function. So it could be a camera failure is beginning again, or there is an inherent defect in camera or software that powers the braking.

Collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned on 4/23/24 causing automatic abrupt braking when driving over metal hole cover in road. The braking was so intense the car behind our family nearly collided with our car. In the moment this happened the car was not in driver’s control as a result of malfunction. Contacted local Honda dealer by phone who was familiar with the issue and advised there is no doubt the cause is the cmbs and there is no diagnostics or resolution for the problem.
Driving along highway at highway speeds, the automatic braking system indicated 'brake' in the center dash when there was no object in front of me. The vehicle did _not_ auto brake, but that was obviously the next step/possible if it continued to malfunction (actually brake the vehicle).
While driving on a two lane road with no other vehicles and no objects on the road, the "brake" warning light came on. Thankfully, the collision avoidance system didn't come on this time but if the warning had activated the collision avoidance in traffic, a rear end crash could have happened.
I was driving on the highway at a speed of 65-70 mph. The car's adaptive cruise control was set and keeping pace. Suddenly, every light on the dash turned on with the adaptive cruise control and lane assist turning off. Luckily my hands were on the wheel and the car didn't leave the lane. Eventually, this was diagnosed and attributed to faulty fuel injectors. This seems to be a common problem with the 2017 model Honda crvs and luckily for me, ended safely. But if this was my wife or kid driving, it could have ended poorly. I still ask why is the fuel injector issue, which makes the car engine run more rich, connected to the cruise control / lane assist software that can result in a safety problem.
On or about Sep 25th 2023, automatic brake system invertedly activated while driving 40mph with no traffic. Dealership could not find any codes or errors. On or about Apr 01st 2024, automatic brake system invertedly activated while driving 40mph with no traffic. Dealership could not find any codes or errors. On or about Apr 03rd 2024, vehicle turned on all by its shelf with no key fob around. Open door and sat in driver's seat and about 15 second later, the vehicle turned off by its shelf. Step on brake, pushed start button and vehicle displayed "need key fob". Dealership could not find any codes or errors.
All of my warning lights are on. The above checklist only lets me pick 3 items total but every warning light is on. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. My car has went from driving 70mph on the highway to suddenly going to 10-20 mph! super dangerous and this has happened 2 times. First time in March 24’ and again may 24’. The reset resolved it briefly but it returned again and again. Now all lights are on and it scares me to drive on the interstate because I don’t know when it will happen again. My safety features do not work on my car when the lights are on. I have had the codes checked and reset 2 times. Codes p0172 & p0303 were a couple codes it shows.
1. Cmbs (front collision detection system) has malfunctioned approximately 3-4 times over the past 3 years. 2. While operating the vehicle in different settings, front-collision will incorrectly detect something in front of the car when nothing is there and apply brakes causing the car to stop suddenly and unexpectedly. The first 2 incidents occurred in my parking structure and no one was behind me. The 3rd incident occurred while driving on a surface street in honolulu, and again no one was ahead or behind me. The final incident occurred today ([xxx] at approximately [xxx] hst). There was no one in front and a car behind me and the cmbs flashed a warning and slammed on the brakes bringing the car to a complete stop. Car behind me was forced to stop to avoid rear-end collision. 3. I took the car in for inspection after the 3rd incident last year (pacific Honda dealership). Vehicle was inspected, mechanic took the car for a test drive, and was unable to replicate the problem. I was told this happens and car was returned to me. 4. There were no warning lights or messages indicating a problem with the cmbs prior to these events occurring. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Warning lights (lkas, collision mitigation, road departure assist and break system) suddenly went on as I was backing out of the driveway. No obstruction found on the vehicle upon checking. Cr-v was with 2328 miles on it. Informed the dealer of the issue and got it serviced immediately. I was informed that the multipurpose camera needs replacement. Service manager from the Honda dealer said that the vehicle is still drivable even with warning lights on and that the camera is on back order but the eta is unknown.

On 2/10/2024 I was stopped waiting to put gas in my car when all of a sudden multiple lights lite up on my dash board (vehicle stability assist, vsa problems, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control problems, collision mitigation problems, road departure mitigation system problem, power steering (eps) problems, electric brake system problem, emission system problem, brake system problem, * all integral to safe driving for me. I was able to drive slowly to my mechanic and he was able to do a diagnostic assessment and it showed a code b1234 (air mix control motor circuit (driver's) short. He was able to turn all the warning lights off. I am now a little afraid to use my car long distance until I can get assured that this will not happen again. In searching the internet I find that this is not an isolated occurrence. There are multiple complaints regarding this same issue.
My car has regularly over the years I have owned it (brand new) hit the brakes on its own. The braking is so violent that all the contents of my car fly forward. I have had this type of braking occur when there is no obstruction in the road, no indication of a front end collision about to occur, nor lane crossings. This has happened a handful of times, less than 10, since 2018. However, my front crash detection has also triggered the brake visual and audible warning more times that I can count that were unwarranted. It has triggered on light poles on the side of the road and the centerville turnpike bridge regularly (chesapeake, va). There has also been one incident where I was braking and I was stopping in time, but the detection system decided to slam on the brakes even further. The brake pedal literally pulled away from my foot when I was already pressing it to the floor. The result of these incidents is my injured shoulder, sitting stalled in the middle of a busy street/highway, and being stunned as a focused driver. The car does not allow the driver to move right away and it can cause even more detrimental accidents.
All of these warning indicator messages pop up on dash: electric parking brake problem, tire pressure monitor problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system problem, hill assist etc. My battery was changed and my system was checked but these lights still come on frequently. This has been going on for over a year.
Driving about 35mph. Nearest vehicle ahead of me (semi trailer) was about a block ahead. My brake alert came on. I did not brake because there was no need to. Then the car applied the brakes automatically. No accident as no one was behind me. This occurred first week of Dec 2023. There was a prior incident about a month ago where the car ahead of me was about a car and a half length ahead. Brake alert came on, then went off. I didn’t brake and really didn’t think too much of it. But after reading online, others having issues I thought it needs to be reported.
Purchased my car in July new. In August I got a cbms warning for emergency brake system failure. Took it in and they said the front camera failed and needed to be replaced. It’s been on backorder since August 23. Because of this all the safety features including lane assist had to be turned off because the steering wheel would randomly jerk even when I was within the lane lines. Turned off the safety features and around 10,000 miles the steering wheel started clicking and aggressively jerking to the right or left while driving similarly to how it jerked when the safety features were on, even though they were already turned off from the previous steering wheel issues. Brought it to the dealership and they said the eps rack failed and the care was unfit to drive. They put me in a rental since two safety issues occurred in the vehicle.
Earlier this morning, while driving in stop-and-go traffic, I attempted to accelerate once traffic ahead of me had cleared. There was no car, obstruction, etc. , in front of my car for at least one car length, if not more. As I accelerated, the cmbs system suddenly kicked in, flashing brake on my dash and applying the brake. My car came to a complete stop. Luckily, the person behind me had started up slowly and did not rear end me. I could not say with complete confidence how fast I was going, I had accelerated to maybe 10-20 mph before the issue occurred. I have not seen a dealer or service center since the incident and there was no police or insurance representatives engaged (as thankfully there was no accident).
Most recent issue occurred 10/25/23 with 2018 crv. Traveling 15-20mph and approached a metal plate in the roadway in a construction area when car abruptly applied breaks without warning and car came to complete stop, almost causing me to be rear-ended by truck behind me. This is multiple occurrence. About a year ago, same issue happened when traveling 25mph and approached a metal plate in the road with asphalt surrounding it. No cars were slowly down nor impacted by the metal plate. My car misfired and abruptly slammed on the breaks to a halt without warning, causing the car behind me to slam in his breaks, swerve into next lane and honk as he passed me. Another time I was traveling 45mph on a country road with no objects or obstacles in the road when crv abruptly braked down to 20mph and again, I almost caused an accident with the driver behind me. Other times, my crv will flash brake and beep and slow when there aren’t any objects in the road. This is very concerning.
Today, October 25 was the fourth time my 2018 Honda crv abruptly braked and stopped without warning. Today I was driving in a construction zone, and I was approaching metal plates on the roadway. I was traveling about 15-20mph when my car abruptly stopped. I was almost rear-ended by the truck driving behind me. The first time was in a construction area with a metal plate on the roadway and I was traveling 25mph when my crv abruptly brakes without warning and stopped. Again, I almost got rear-ended. The car behind me brakes hard and swerved I to the other lane to avoid a collision and then honked at me when passing. Other times I am driving on the roadway, traveling 40mph when my car abruptly brakes but there isn’t an object in front of me. I’ve called the dealer and made an appointment for 10/26/23 to see why my crv forward collision mitigation is misfiring. The technician will drive in the construction zone. I’ve driven in the same construction zone without any previous problem-today was a misfire. What if I’m driving at freeway speed of 65-70 and my crv brakes suddenly without reason? this is a serious situation-with fatal consequences. My dashcam may have picked it up. I haven’t checked.
I was in a dedicated lane to make a left turn. There was no vehicle in front of me and no pedestrians in the crosswalk. I was coasting to the light at about 20mph or less as I could see that it was red and because I am familiar with the intersection , I knew it would not turn green immediately. At 2 to 3 car lengths back from where I was going to stop all of a sudden the car jolted to a stop. The car immediately shut down (quit running). There was no car behind me or I am sure my car would have been rear ended. I got out of the car to see if there was something under it or if I could see if something had fallen off the underside of the car. I tried to restart the car but it would not start. By that time there were 2 cars behind me waiting to turn. I got out of the car and went back to the nearest car and told the driver she needed to go around my car. I got back into my car and tried to restart it and it started. I had absolutely no warning before this happened. I did not take the car for an inspection but I did call the salesman (as soon as I could). He said it might be because of the forward collision system and suggested that I could turn it off. He said that the system is very sensitive and even a leaf might set it off. Even though it was in October, it was not a windy day and most trees in my area had not started losing their leaves. I bought this car because of the safety equipment as I am 81 years old and in good health, but I am a practical person. I did tell the salesman that if there is another incident that I would be coming in for an inspection. I have been anxious about this and have learned others have had this problem. Thank you, eleanor armentrout 247 chapelfield rd gahanna, OH 43230 egarmen8@gmail. Com.
When I drove at around 4-50 mph. The car lost power, stalled and all the sensors and warning were on. I also smelled gasoline inside the cabin.
I was driving on a 2 lane highway, in the right travel lane, at approximately 60 mph. There were no vehicles immediately in front of me in this lane, however, there was a line of stopped vehicles in the breakdown lane (to the right of my vehicle), because the off-ramp was backed up onto the highway. My forward collision warning system flashed brake, 3 times on the dashboard. I took my foot off of the gas pedal, and before I could apply the brake, the car automatically slammed on the brake. My car stopped in the middle of the highway. Thankfully I was not rear ended by the car behind me. I took my car to ocean Honda of hanover, MA. They said everything is in working order, and "this just happens sometimes. " I am not able to turn off this feature! I read a report (consumer reports Feb 2022) stating that you have been notified of approximately 300 of these instances with the 2018 Honda Cr-v. There is no recall. Are you still looking into this?.
