On 1 Feb 05, I took my 99 Honda accord, VIN # 1hgcg1645xa011445, to a Honda dealer here in fort walton beach florida due to sluggish acceleration. They told me that the transmission system needs to be replaced for approximately $3,700. I asked them why the transmission would breakdown at 47,000 miles only. They said it is no longer covered by warranty but they will check with Honda hqs. Later on the day, they called and said Honda will pay for the parts but I have to pay the labor cost ($504) to replace the transmission. My question why do I have pay for the labor if they agree to provide the parts. I read that there is a lot of problem on Honda transmission so I presumed it is a factory defect. Is there anyway you can help?.

We have a Honda odyessey 2002, it was subject to a recall for possible transmission problem, the dealer determined there was no wear to the gears and installed a oil kit. This was done at 52000 miles(mainly highway miles). Soon after we noticed some revving of engine when we try to accelarate off and on. On 12/10/04 while driving my wife suddenly could not go beyond 20-30 miles after stopping at a traffic light. We have had it towed to the dealer who now says the transmission needs to be replaced. He is not attributing it to the reason for the initial recall. We have contacted Honda customer service who will get back to us in 1-2 days after talking to our dealer if they would cover the cost of rreplacing the transmission. There are 100's of reports which sound identical on the internet. Honda has extended warranty on Honda odyessey vans for 2000 and 2001 to 100000miles. We were lucky that this did not happen onthe highway, my wife could have got seriously hurt.
Going off the Honda brand name, we purchased a 1998 Honda accord in November of 2004. At the time, the vehicle had 101,000 miles on it. Less than a week after purchasing the vehicle, my wife noticed that it hesitated and then shifted hard into second gear. She aslo noticed that there was a severe hesitation when accelerating after slowing down for a turn or when trying to merge into traffic. This causes an unsafe condition of a vehicle trying to get into the flow of traffic and being unable to accelerate; she's almost been hit several times. We've been on the phone with Honda, and been told that they won't pay for anything. I don't have an estimate yet, but, after doing some research, this problem seems to cost anywhere from $2000-4000 to fix. If Honda continues to refuse to replace what is obviously a defective component, I've resolved to do two things: contact a lawyer and never waste my money on one of their vehicles again.

I have a 1999 4 cylinder Honda accord with 85,000 miles on it. When accelerating the transmission hesitates sometimes. Also when it shifts from 1st to 2nd it slips, causing the rpms to over-rev badly. I am a first time car buyer and bought a Honda because I figured they were reliable and I wouldnt have to shell out the cash for a new transmission 6 months after my purchase.
