The driver's side seat rocks dangerously back and forth. I only weigh 108 pounds so it's nothing I have done to cause this. When I look online, thousands of Element owners have this same complaint. It is pretty expensive to get the seat assembly replaced. I have driven Hondas for 30 years and never had this issue. It began a year or so ago and has gotten worse!.
My 2004 Element light came on while driving one day. I had it serviced by a mechanic with set belt replacement. Did not help with the light came back on. Had it looked at by someone else who told me it was the airbag sensors. I really don"t want to keep spending money but it failed inspection because of this along with my driver side seat that is rocking. Driving and coming to a stop with any type of force causes the seat to jump forward. Even if I am sitting and if I move around my seat will move. Is there any type of permanent fixes for these problems. Our daughter loves her Element but, these are major issues for our family as they are and can have serious problems now and in the future.

Driver and passenger front seat always rocked slightly and today I was driving came to a traffic light and driver seat unlocked and pushed forward! if there have been a vehicle in front there would have been an accident! major safety issue! please help. . . What would these cost me to repair? how do I proceed?.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Element. The contact stated that the driver side seat rocked back and forth every single time it was used. The failure occurred for approximately one year. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

After the rear driver's side seat has been disconnected from the floor latch, it will not reconnect, so the seat will not connect to the floor. There's something wrong with either the latch or the bar on the floor that the latch connects to. This happened when the vehicle was stationary and in my driveway.

The driver side seat rocks back and forth when decelerating at a stop light or at a stop sign and/or when performing a turn . It also happens when accelerating after a stop or turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the bushings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A service bulletin (TSB 03-032) was issued yet Honda claims they do not see this as an issue even though there have been numerous reports and complaints. A quick google search informally verifies this happens with other models of Honda vehicles (civic, crv, Element). This is a constant issue for me when driving especially during stop and start and turning. This presents a danger when trying to accelerate and brake during driving.
Driver's seat rocks back and forth while driving and braking my mechanic said bushings worn/loose. He fixed it, but the problem came back. A technical service bulletin has been released by Honda about this problem. A service adviser at a Honda dealership could not help my problem without me paying a costly bill. What's next?.
Front drivers seats has been rocking back and forth, I asked about the service bullletin , since not a recall I would have to fix, Element is one owner with 70,000 miles.
Driver seat rocks back and forth when braking and accelerating. This seems very unsafe.
The steel frame in the drivers seat completely cracked and broke, causing the seatback to become separate from the vehicle. Local Honda dealer acknowledged the break and offered a $2,400 new seat option. I am the original owner and the car is well maintained. This is a significant safety issue and a front/rear collision would have caused bodily injury. Photos and video are available.

The driver's seat in my 2004 Element rocks noticeably. The dealer recommended replacing the seat frame. Cost was $2300. Searching the internet, I found that this is a common problem, and that Honda issued a service bulletin #03-032 (attached). The work involves replacing seat bushings. I took the sb to the dealer, and the mechanic said that the damage to the frame was too bad, and that the work would not fix the problem. Looking at the service bulletin, the bushings that should have been replaced protect the frame. They recognized that the design flaw required them to be replaced. I am not the original owner, and cannot say if the work was ever done. In either case, the failure of the bushings resulted in damage to the frame. Presently, there is significant movement and the seat is loose. In the event of an accident, it is my concern that the movement of the seat could result in shearing of the bolts, causing the seat to come apart. Since the original problem was not a recall, but a service bulletin, it is my belief that there may be many of these vehicles with loose seats. As a safety concern there should be a recall to inspect the frame for damage and replace if damaged. I am putting today's date in the date field below, but this is a chronic issue that has been going on for some time.
Driver's seat rocks forward and backward while driving - braking rocks forward - accelerating rocks backward. Was rear-ended two days ago and realized that the seat or head restrant would not provide support to prevent injury.
My side curtain airbag came out after running over a branch that I could not avoid. I came over a hill on a residential street and the branches were all over the road. I got out of my car because I smelled smoke. It was only upon getting back in my car that I realized the air bag was hanging out. It did not inflate just came out. I recently had the recall taken care of for the front driver side. Every auto body person I have spoke with says that it should not have deployed for something like a branch. Also, my seat belts are still working which is uncommon after the air bag deploying. Honda has not wanted to take responsibility for the air bag deploying without true cause.
I was driving down my own driveway, when there was a very loud explosion to my right. After a moment, I realized the passenger seat side airbag deployed. There was nothing on the seat at the time. My right ear rang for quite some time after. Luckily, my dog was crated behind me. I rolled down the windows to dissipate the powder floating about. Honda, both the local dealer and corporate, have been less than helpful in this matter. I am just happy it happened in my own driveway ( which I almost drove off of) rather than on the major hwy I had been on the day before as I surely would have crashed.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact stated that the drivers seat would excessively move forward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,238.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact stated that the driver was in a head on collision and driver's seat and seat belt failed. The driver seat mechanism failed caused the seat to move forward and the seat belt failed to sustain and retract. The driver moved forward hitting the steering wheel and dash board. The driver to suffer injuries to the chest, the knee, and seat belt bruised on the body. The police was present. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 132,000. Li.
Early this year, approximately March, my driver's side seat began to rock. It continues to get worse. I have taken it to the dealer and was informed that the bushings - there are six of them in each seat - are worn. They can be replaced - at a pretty high cost - but the issue will recur. Replacing the bushings is not a fix, just alleviates the symptoms temporarily. If my seat rocks, which it is not designed to do, how long before something fails? I would like this issue corrected before people are injured due to failure of seat bolts due to unanticipated stress to them.
While driving through parking lot approaching exit, the passenger side seat airbag deployed without reason. Loud bang, ringing ears, and crying kids. No bumps, potholes, curbs or accident. So far everyone from Honda, the dealer and insurance are all pointing the finger at each other. As seen on this and other sites this seems common however everyone acts like it's the first time they've heard of such a thing.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Element. The contact stated that the driver's seat brackets became loose and caused the seat to rock back and forth. The failure was progressive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the bushings and the bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
My driver side seat will rock back and forth. I have tightening bolts under seat but came loose again. Been like this for awhile.
The front edge of the driver's seat rocks up and down when accelerating and braking. This past week a gold-colored nut rolled out from under the seat, I looked under the seat and it matches the other's that fasten the seat to the slide rails and height adjusting mechanism. The seat now has a bit more rocking motion and the front right corner drops down more, along with a metallic clunking noise, when making right turns and especially if I'm braking at the same time. The seats "looseness" does affect both braking and accelerating so hopefully the dealer will replace the nut and tighten any other loose nuts, at no charge, when I take it in.
Driver's seat is rocking back and forth. This creates a dangerous condition during driving as it may affect control of the vehicle. Safety inspector also says that the seat may come loose -- therefore that virginia state inspector failed my vehicle during its annual safety inspection. All of these common complaints should be subject of a recall since the seat's design was faulty. This is evidenced by Honda's TSB stating that an additional spacer should be added to the worn out bushings to prevent future occurrence of this incident. Isn't that evidence that their design was defective from the beginning? NHTSA should likewise do its job by forcing a recall of these vehicles. Would they rather have a consumer accident occur first before they do their job?.
I was driving into the bank drive in teller and my left side airbag went off.
I was driving to work on March 26, 2011 on the freeway and it was early and a clear day. I was on the highway and out of no where I heard a loud explosion sound and was completely freaked out. My right ear was ringing and I started to smell smoke. I looked to my right side and the passenger side airbag had exploded out. It wasn't even inflated and there was no one sitting on the seat thankfully. But since no one was on the seat the airbags should have been off, the Honda Element has a sensor on the seat. I called the Honda customer service department and they told me I was responsible for the problem. That I should take my vehicle to a Honda dealership and report it to my insurance so that they can take care of it for me.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact stated that the vehicle's front driver seat would rock similar to a rocking chair. The first team Honda dealer diagnosed that the track for the seat failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall for the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
2005 Honda Element. Front seat loose. Was told by mechanic that a part was holding the front driver seat that is welded has some problem where it came loose. The front driver seat literally rocks back and forth. When discussed with dealership, they did say "it is not wear and tear" and that it was a mechanical problem.
Driver's seat rocks when accelerating or braking. Honda has issued TSB but refuses to cover cost of fix if vehicle is out of warranty. My car is a 2005 but the TSB covers all vehicles from 2003-2006.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact noticed that the drivers seat spacer bushing was broken and caused the seat to become mobile while driving. Both the dealer as well as the manufacturer was notified who advised the contact that the vehicle was not under warranty and that it was his responsibility to repair it. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was approximately 68,000. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact stated that the front drivers seat would rock back and forth. The manufacturer was unable to assist the contact and the dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 133,000.
Under normal driving conditions, driver's side seat has become very loose on seat track and now "rocks" on its track. Seat is so loose that that control of vehicle is compromised when driving. Honda service inspection indicates seat bushings have failed and need to be replaced. Check online shows problem is widespread for this model and year. Indications are that even following repairs, seat will become loose again, pointing to safety design flaw.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The drivers seat bolts have become loose. Consequently while driving, the seat moves out of position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a fractured rail was replaced. The failure mileage was 120,000. The current mileage was 124,289.
My driver seat has been cracking and it is like the seat cover that it was made out of was dry rotted. I have talk to other Honda Element owners and they are having the same problem. Some with the driver seat, others with the other seat. So, it is not because the driver get in and out more, because it is not only on that side of the seat but the other side as well and back part on the sides. Just don't understand why alot of people are having the same problems with the seat covers as cracking and tearing.
The problem is with the 04 Honda Element. I have searched online and many other people are having the same problem with the drivers seat rocking back and fourth. This is dangerous and Honda needs to do something about it.
Driver seat began rocking back and forth. Many owners on the Honda Element owner's club website report this problem for this and other model years. H and a sells hardware kits to replace seat components, but they are expensive and this type of recurring problem should not fall on consumers' shoulders.
