Windshield Problems of Honda Element - part 1

Windshield leaked water, dealership refused to fix. Windshield cracked and was cited by police officer for not fixing, dealership refused to fix. Upon replacement the repair guys just laughed and said that that glass was seated improperly and asked who had replaced it. I responded that it was the original, they told me not to buy any more Hondas. Key would no longer work in the driver side door. Replaced something at dealership for $800 as well as the driver side window as it stopped moving due to the motor dying at around 60,000 miles. Now the keys don't work in the passenger side of vehicle nor does the window. In another incident the vehicle failed to stop after fully depressing the brake when traveling about 5-10 mph and drifting into another vehicle causing moderate damage. Honda has not responded to any inquires made by consumer. Nor has dealership. I still owe 10,000 dollars on this car, have spent over 3000 in repairs and at this point want to drive it into a tree at a high speed.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Element. The contact stated that there was a crack in the windshield. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 67,000.

Stress crack appeared on windshield directly opposite rear view mirror. Crack begins above area of windshield exposed to outside air, extends straight down for several inches, then veers left several inches and stops. Nothing hit the windshield and there is no impact point along the crack. Iphone camera picture was taken by service manager, copy submitted to Honda for review. Honda declined responsibility. No paperwork generated.

Stress cracks on front windshield on 2003 Honda Element as described by other Honda owners.

I own a 2004 Honda Element. A little over a month ago my windshield cracked. The crack started under my wiper blade and spread up very quickly. I had the windshield replaced, not knowing that this was a known common problem on 03-04 Honda Elements. Last night I went out to my car and noticed another crack in my windshield, with the crack occurring while the car was not in motion. This is the second time in two months I have to replace the windshield, though this time I will do it through a Honda dealer as a class action lawsuit has caused them to cover all windshields up to 60,000 miles on the car. Which leads me to the cause for my complaint. Honda is covering a known design flaw up to 60,000 miles, but not after. My car is currently at 48k miles, leaving me with 12k miles of coverage. Once I reach 60k miles I will have to pay for the costs out of pocket, and with the replacement being $250-300 each time, that is not something I can afford. Now I must trade in my car, a car known to have a faulty design by Honda, for far less than a 05 model would be worth with similar mileage. Honda put a band aid on a gaping financial wound for a consumer. Their shady business practice will cause me further financial loss, hence the reason for this complaint.

Multiple windshield replacements.

Windshield has cracked 3 times while driving down to road. Insurance has replaced the windshield.

Got into the car and saw a crack on the front windshield that is coming from the middle portion, under the molding left to right. (if sitting in car. ) contacted Honda and still no response. Always we will call you back.

3-5-08, in morning, when I got into my Element, I noticed two long cracks in the windshield, starting at the lower right- and left-hand corners, traveling upwards at an angle, toward the center, approx 15 inches long, each. I called the Honda dealer, and they said I should check my warranty. I did. Windshield damage not covered. I called Honda motor company. They tried to tell me it was not a design defect (as I believed). After telling them I knew of many reports to the NHTSA, they finally agreed to replace the windshield, as ". . . A one-time goodwill gesture. " (I bit my tongue, as I knew that the phone rep knew it was, in fact, a design flaw. ).

2007 Honda Element, purchased March of 2007. February 15, 2008 crack showed up on windshield starting from right side frame of windshield, growing daily.

2003 Honda Element windshield cracked at bottom of passenger side while sitting in my driveway so I had it replaced. A couple months later cracked same location and eventually split all the way across the windshield blocking view. Called mfg and was told due to being over 60,000 miles I will have to pay for repairs. What does the mileage have to do with the windshield. My vehicle had 63,000 miles on it at the time, which was 2008. Now I find that it would have been replaced due to being within the 6 years or 60,000 miles but they withheld that information. Honda should be responsible for all these defective windshields!! what is being done about this problem and why is Honda not giving all the details? do we need to hire a lawyer to handle this situation?.

I just noticed I have a cracked windshield on my new 2008 Honda Element. I don't recall any debri or anything hitting my windshield but I noticed a crack? in my 37 years of driving I have had only 1 cracked windshield and in that case I saw and heard the rock hit my windshield back in 1995ish.

Have already replaced the windsheild once. It currently has 3 seperate cracks at the moment that were not from anything hitting plus one that is. That is a total of 4.

I purchased a certified 2006 Honda Element ex-p in March of 2007 from Honda of fayetteville, ar. I drove the vehicle to springfield, mo and parked it in a garage. The next morning I found a 4 inch crack in the top middle of the windshield immediately behind the rear view mirror. In a day or two the crack became so bad that I had to replace the windshield. There was no apparent rock strike or other damage other than the crack. At the time I did not know that Honda had settled a class action law suit alleging design defects with 2003 an 2004 Honda Elements. I did not report the damage to my insurance company because there was no external damage. I had the oem windshield replaced with a ppg windshield at my own expense. I drove the vehicle to our home in juneau, alaska and arrived last week. This afternoon while fueling the vehicle I noticed another crack in the windshield, this one starting at the top at the extreme right (passenger) side. This crack is now about 8 inches long, and will soon become a safety issue requiring replacement. Honda does not seem to want to replace this windshield because only 2003 and 2004 Honda Elements were included in the class action law suit. Obviously there is a design or engineering flaw in all Elements, not just the 2003 an 2004 model years. In checking on the internet I found that this is a major problem affecting thousands upon thousands of Elements. When I had the windshield replaced in springfield, mo. , I was told that Honda Elements constitute a large portion of their workload, and that some Element owners have replaced their windshields five or six times! Honda has a real problem and should be held responsible to recall and correct this problem common to all Elements. Ak.

Went into shopping mall , came out and found windshield cracked in lower left corner on driver's side. I had received a recall letter from Honda concerning windshield cracking resulting from little or no impact". A few months earlier I took it to dealer. They said it was from an unknown impact, and was my responsibility. I showed them the letter and asked them to define"little or no impact which was in the letter - they declined and said they wouldn't fix it.

Honda Element purchased 4/16/a chip a week on windshield! today is 4/28/07. Internet search shows history with Element windshields. Called salesman, "its our roads. . . Repair dept. " just want to get a complaint on record since there is a class action lawsuit for other recent years.

Windshield cracked while in the garage overnight!.

My 2003 Honda Element windshield cracked with no apparent reason. The crack starts below the rubber strip near the pivot of the driver windshield wiper. The crack is migrating upwards into my viewing area.

Spontaneous windshield crack on 2007 Honda Element. Lower passenger side crack occurred while I was sitting in car; no impact event, only defroster in cold weather. Dealer examined and claims 'stone pit' and refused to cover on warranty, but there is no visible pit nor anything that can be felt with finger. 19,100k miles. Classic crack story typical of many other Honda Elements, and classic 'stonewall treatment' by Honda dealer as reported by other Honda Element owners.

2006 Honda Element parked in driveway, no visible impact points day before. In the morning car had crack on passenger side, about 2-3 inches up, 3-4 inches long. Dealer advised hit by stones at some point prior, leaving no mark at first but can later appear, but did cause crack. Glass technician said stress crack from manufacturer.

A crack occurred in the windshield of my newly purchased Honda Element, in the lower passenger side. There is a small "pit" though I do not believe anything impacted the windshield. After reading many others complaints about the same issue online, I decided to file complaint. Most people are being told their cracks are due to an impact and thus not covered under warranty. The windshield has not been replaced.

Cracked windshield. . . Driver's side. . . Just showed up one afternoon like an unexpected visitor. . .

On November 12, 2007, I noticed a horizontal crack in my Honda Element's windshield, about 7 inches in length on the driver's side, about halfway up starting at the left side pillar. I bought the vehicle new and it has not been in any kind of accident. I drove in to work and did not notice the crack. I did notice it when going to lunch that same day. The crack was clearly visible as it is in my direct line of sight. It literally appeared out of nowhere.

My front windshield chipped for no apparent reason. The Honda dealer acknowledged that 2003 and 2004 Honda Elements are prone to this problem but claimed he has no authority to make the repair. I have now found this to be a widespread problem. Honda even sent a service bulletin to its dealers (03-028 dated may 6, 2003) detailing how to correct the uneven windshield flange surface causing the windshields to crack. The uneven windshield flange surface and upright angle of the windshield cause stresses in the windshield that make it unnecessarily likely to chip or crack. This design flaw is Honda's responsibility and should have been corrected.

Cracked windshield in my 2003 Honda Element stemming from the driver side bottom corner. Burns Honda in cherry hill, NJ says it is not their problem and will not fix it free of charge.

My 2003 Element with 30,000 miles was parked for 3 weeks in an indoor parking structure near the airport. I returned from my trip to find the same kind of crack in the windshield that others on this site have described. It started from the lower right corner of the passenger side and went up about 12 inches. I have no recollection of any stones having hit the windshield prior to leaving.

My windshield has started to crack, very similar to problems that have been reported on this website about earlier model year Honda Elements. The crack started at the bottom of the front of the driver's side dash about 12 inches from the left side of the left edge. There are no, repeat no chips or dings that may have contributed to this event. It is very clear that Honda is having similar problems on the additional model year Elements. Those problems were reported that the welded seams along where the windshield rests on the frame had high spots that were causing the stress cracks. Currently, the crack is about 12 inches long, but grows a little more every week. Sure, I could have my insurance company replace it, and I pay the deductible, but this is a documented problem that Honda has been having and I expect Honda to fix it, especially since according to the state on maryland, cracked windshields are a safety concern, so I expect this agency to forward this complaint to Honda.

My Honda Element 2003 has now had 3 cracked windows under a year. This seems very excessive and I have never had a similar problem with other vehicles. I found many people having the same problem online. Please advise. Thanks.

2006 Honda Element windshield cracked without impact. Dealer refuses to repair stating that this type of damage is "usually" caused by road debris.

2003 Honda Element windsheild. This will be the 3rd windshield that I have had to replace on the is vehicle. Each time it cracks in the location that Honda says there is a problem. I've had to pay for the windshield repairs.

My 2005 Honda Element windshield just cracked. Nothing hit it, the windshield just cracked. It now has two significant cracks from the edge of the windshield across.

2004 Honda Element windshield cracked while sitting in parking lot behind my home. Vehicle was not being driven at the time the crack occurred. Crack begins at top of the windshield on the driver's side and curves toward the outside of the car.

2004 Honda Element : 2nd windshield replacement in 6 months . The cracks always start in the black area from below the windshield wiper blades. Honda denies any known problem with the design of the windshield frame . Honda replaced first winshield approx. 6 months ago . The 2nd replacement Honda refused to cover/warranty. I have a signed statement from the window technichian that came out and replaced my 2nd windshield stating; the crack in my winshield was caused by stress and that the bottom corners of the pinchweld on both sides are broke away from the welds and are loose . My insurance policy covered the 2nd replacement however, I feel Honda should have. After researching my vehicle today on line, I have learned that there is a pending class action lawsuit against american Honda and an alarming number sites with Honda Element owners or leasers sharing my same concerns . I want Honda in writting, assure me that this defect in design or, the way they will attempt to fix it will not cause injury to me or my passengers or loss of life to myself or my passengers in the event of a vehicle accident . I would also like them to waranty the windshield for the life of the vehicle .
