1 Wiring problem of the 2006 Honda Element

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

2006 Honda Element approx 114,000 miles. Vehicle low beams both stop working simultaneously while vehicle is in motion at various speeds increasing likelihood of crash. This is recurrent issue with this model and other Honda models including pilot and fit. Issue relates to burning contact in wiring harness. This is clearly a defect in manufacturing/ design that puts drivers and other motorists at risk of accident.

2 Wiring problem of the 2010 Honda Element

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

My car has an active recall for a trailer wiring harness. I have had the harness inspected by my dealer four times, and they claim it is not a factory-installed harness, despite it being in your database. The harness was on the car when I purchased it. I cannot explain why it is different than the recalled wiring harness. I had a trailer hitch added to my vehicle shortly after purchase, but the shop did not add a wiring harness because one was already on the car. However, I use the hitch only to attach a bike rack. I have never hauled a trailer with this vehicle, and feel there is therefore no safety hazard. Please remove my vehicle from your recall records. The recalled wiring harness apparently was never installed on my vehicle.

3 Wiring problem of the 2005 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/10/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Element. While the vehicle was parked the contact turned the ignition on and noticed smoke and heard a cracking sound coming from the master power window switch on the front drivers side door. The smoke was followed by a small flame. The fire extinguished on its own and caused the door panel to melt. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technicians were unable to determine the cause of fire and stated the wiring harness and driver side door panel had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,962.

4 Wiring problem of the 2005 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/12/2005

Have a 2005 Honda Element covered under the NHTSA campaign #05e035000. Trailer hitch was installed by the dealer on a new vehicle. Was made aware of the recall through consumers reports magazine. Checked the NHTSA web site to learn more. Called Honda dealer who didn't even know about the recall. Called american Honda number from the NHTSA recall notice, they said my Element was not covered as the trailer hitch was not factory installed but dealer installed. Honda doesn't mention any factory installed options in the catalog, just dealer installed accessories. My complaint is that Honda didn't notify me or anybody else with a dealer installed trailer hitch of the recall. As far as their concerned, I don't have the problem, even though my car exhibited all of the symptoms the recall notice described. What's the point of a recall if they don't notify anybody?.
