My air conditioner went out and I was going to put car in reverse to see if the fans were working. When I put the key in I didn't start the car because my key wouldn't go forward or backwards it was just stuck and the steering column locked up. When I first purchased the vehicle in October 2022 I had to have to front end suspension joints replaced the bar in the middle was cracked. It sounded and felt like the motor was going to fall out. I need to replace the back suspension due to very loud noises when driving like something is going to fall apart.

Vtec oil pressure switch low voltage threw a code so I replaced entire mechanism, I don't know the name buy removed wire snaps and three bolts and replaced with brand new, and reattached. Unplugged battery till all reserve was gone. Plugged back up [battery] drove, but still as I hit 3000 rpm and vtec turns on shoots check engine light and vehicle jukes. I have already changed oil, made sure proper level proper weight had flushed as to clean out any debris. Made sure all connections were tight, but nothing fixes problem.

My 2005 Honda Element constantly display airbag off, when it's inaccurate, dashboard light doesn't work. There's some kind of shortage because it blinks, come on and go off and stay off. It shows the same information, rather driving or stationary. Are there recalls on this car? it's been one problem after another.

Defective dash gauge controls keep the car from starting. It's a known defect and Honda knows it also.
Drivers side door key ceased to work as stated numerous times by others. Only way to get in and lock the door is from passenger side. . . Placing driver in unsafe and vunerable position. Also when driving slowly approx 10 mph car has frequently irractically accelerated of its own accord. Have to stand on the brakes to get car to stop. With the car at a stop, and in drive it will self accelerate. . . Very dangerous!!! as others have noted there is a serious electrical short?? as dash lights are dull then and have to hit dash to get them to light up. Headlights are constantly surging from limited lighting visibility to normal.

My low beems stopped working when I use the high beems they suddenly turn off while driving we changed the light bulbs and they still don,t work.

The headlight switch connector overheated and melted at its terminal with the headlight switch resulting in the random failure of my headlights while driving at night. After searching more about this particular issue, I found that the same issue resulted in a recall of the part in 2001/2002 Honda civics (export service bulletin 04-015, April 2004). The solution, "replace the combination light switch, the red/wht wire in the headlight wire harness and, if needed, the 16p headlight wire harness connector. " I verified that it is the same red/wht wire that overheated in the connector. Why is my 2004 Honda Element not covered by this recall?.
Driver side door lock no longer working when alarm is activated. Key gets stuck sometimes in the lock. I then have to go around to passenger side to get in to open driver side door from the inside.

2007 Honda Element electrical dashboard equipment failure. Tachometer gauge fell off tachometer, temperature gauge is not working properly. Some of the dashboard lights do not work and the electrical plug for the chargers does not work. This is a manufacturers defect.
Airbag warning lights will come on for no reason saying passenger airbag is off and it is not off. This happens at least once a week. This happens at various times, cranking vehicle, driving vehicle, there is really no specific situation . It's sporadic. Headlights have always been dim. Sometimes I can't even tell if they are on. The cargo lights, front middle and back work sometimes and most times they don't. Also brake lights seem to have a mind of there own and work when they want to but definitely not when I want them to. In fact I am pretty sure there is an electrical shortage somewhere.
The ignition lock cylinder failed suddenly, preventing any use of the vehicle. The wafers (equivalent to pins on tumbler locks) wore away such that the key no longer worked in the lock. The failure occurred such that turning the key in the ignition is impossible, and strands the driver and all passengers wherever the car is at the time. When the part failed, the vehicle was stalled on a roadway where speeds regularly exceed 30 mph and I immediately tried to move the car out of danger. The steering wheel locked and was impossible to unlock without turning the key in the lock cylinder. The car remained in the road for about a half hour until permission was secured to turn the car into the driveway where the wheels turning lead into, requiring pushing the car through two lanes of traffic. Once in the driveway, it took an additional hour for a tow truck to come (we were lucky the driveway existed at that location!). After towing expenses, dealership quoted repairs at around $800 for just repairing the ignition lock cylinder, and additional expenses for replacing all the locks on the vehicle so that one key would work on all locks on the car. I believe that this is a major safety concern because 1) the failure prevents use, or even controlled movement of the car being pushed (the steering wheel locks, and won't unlock without the key turning in the lock cylinder) in whatever situation the car is in, whether stalled on a roadway or parked, 2) there is no maintenance procedure prescribed to prevent this issue, 3) because of the design of the key/lock combination, this issue will happen eventually to all vehicles with this type of lock (sidewinder key), 4) there is little to no indication of imminent failure.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Element. When the vehicle was parked on an incline, it independently rolled backwards without warning. As a result, the vehicle failed to shift out of the park position. We purchased our Element in 2011. In 09/13, while driving this vehicle, we hit a slight bump in the road and all of the gauges popped off of the instrument cluster. We took the vehicle into the local Honda dealer who gave us a bid of $1,000. 00 to replace the instrument cluster. We choose instead to repair the cluster. Since the repair, none of the gauges on the instrument cluster have read appropriately. At that time, no mention was made that this was an issue with this particular vehicle and year. Approx. One year later in 11/14, the gauges on the instrument cluster again popped off while pulling into a parking lot. My husband did some research and we learned that in 2008, Honda did a safety recall regarding the 2007 Element and the instrument cluster. Apparently, Honda is was very much aware that this was an issue and that there were problems with the design. Honda purposely choose to do a safety recall so that they would not have to be liable after 2010. We contacted american Honda in December and a representative admitted that there was a product update on this particular vehicle and a safety recall back in 2008; however, this recall had expired. I filed a complaint and was sent to consumer products. A representative took our information and agreed to research our issue. We also contacted the local Honda dealer, regarding this issue and although they were understanding, there was nothing that they could do to help us. One week later, american Honda contacted us and told us that they best they could do was to honor the bid of $1,000. 00 and that this was a deal since the cost now to fix the problem was $1,300. 00. We feel that this is a safety issue and that Honda should be forced to take responsibility and repair this defective part. We have learned that there are numerous complaints, comments and concerns on the internet regarding this same issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Honda Element. The contact stated that there was a progressing failure in which the needles failed to work for the rpm gage and the speedometer. The gages were reading improperly and suddenly they did not work at all. The manufacturer provided a product update indicating that the instrument panel gage needles read inaccurately or false. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and diagnosis but the manufacutrer refused to remedy the repair indicating that the timeframe for the repair was expired and provided no remedy for the contact. The driver's-side key lock routinely does not accept the key without multiple efforts. Sometimes these efforts fail, and I must try the back hatch or passenger side door. As a single female, I find this disturbingly dangerous. It is obvious that I can't get into the car, marking me as vulnerable. This basically sets me afoot, often at night, often in uncertain circumstances. Should I find myself needing to move the car for any emergency whatsoever, a great deal of time will be lost as I struggle with entry. Until I checked for the airbag recall, I had not known about this site. I am appalled to find that this key failure is a common issue. My next car will be a Toyota, the brand I drove for many, many miles and years without trouble.
I have a 2003 Honda Element and I have to pay over $700 for a new ignition and my drivers side door does not work with a key or the keyless remote. I am not the only one and Honda should do a blanket recall. I cannot afford to fix the drivers side door at this time. It is embarrassing and unacceptable and it is a common problem. Come on Honda! now I will have two keys, one for the ignition and one for the doors. When I get my drivers side door fixed, I will have three keys to use. Urg.
I was driving on a busy street, quite slow (about 20-25 mph) and smoke started to billow out of my drivers side door. The smoke was coming from underneath the switches which control my windows. The smoke got progressively worse in a very short amount of time (30 seconds - 1 minute). I was unable to open my windows to let the black smoke out. I opened my car door while I drove into the first parking lot I saw. As soon as I parked, I could see flames under the window switches, which melted the plastic and caused the flames to get larger. I was able to smoulder the fire with a jacket while waiting for the fire department. A fire claim was filed. My car was towed, since the fire department advised me not to drive it. I am now awaiting word from the mechanic it was towed to. I work for a home health care agency, and have to transport small oxygen tanks on occasion. I had one in my car at the time and this electrical malfunction could have been deadly.
