Electric Power Assist Steering System problems of the 2009 Honda FIT

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Fit. While driving approximately 65 mph, the power steering failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over and shut off the engine. Upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer reset the power steering software, but the failure recurred. An independent mechanic stated that the power steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

The failure mileage was 2200. The vehicle identification number unavailable. Updated 12/07/09 the manual stated to restart the engine to reset the eps and it worked after several tries. The consumer drove the vehicle about 1 mile when the power steering failed again. The power steering failed again when the mileage was 2570. The vehicle was returned to the dealer.
