The contacted stated that at start-up, the fuel and mileage gauge failed to display or displayed unintelligible information preventing the contact from knowing how many miles to empty. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
