Honda FIT owners have reported 6 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda FIT based on all problems reported for the FIT.
Multiple systems failure simultaneously. Lane keep assist system, adaptive cruise control, braking system failure and automatic emergency braking as well as forward collision warning. This appears to be due to some fault within the system that multiple owners experience — many mentions of this issue in online forums. When taken to Honda they cannot even determine why but just start suggesting replacement of various systems to include the camera/radar but cannot guarantee this will fix. This is a safety issue and happens through no fault of the vehicle owner it just pops on one day and remains intermittent.

At 50,0341miles, after a routine b1 service (oil change and transmission) the lkas, brake system, road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beam assist lights all began to turn on every two to three times I turned on my car. These lights will light up on my dash and stay on for the entire drive (with the systems not working). Then they will not be on for a few drives. Then they will go on again. This is an intermittent problem and only happens every other time I start the car (so it appears the camera is “dying” or faulty, not damaged due to negligence. ) I have not broken the windshield and have treated this car very well. With this camera breaking, I will lose the safety features included in my car until I can afford to pay the dealership $2000 to fix the camera in the windshield. I will no longer have cruise control (which I can live without), however I am concerned about the loss of the braking system and lane controls. This seems to be a known issue as there are many other Honda owners online dealing with similar issues around the same mileage in their cars with the same years (but many different model cars). Honda had no concern when I reached out to the dealership (who performed the original b1 service), and immediately knew what was wrong when I explained what lights went on, could tell me the cost of a camera replacement, and told me it was nothing they did during the service appointment I had with them. If they are truly having these cameras fail at a high rate at around 40k to 50k miles, it seems to be a larger issue that needs to be observed by the NHTSA. I am happy to have the system failure confirmed by the NHTSA. I have not had this confirmed by the dealership as I cannot honestly afford to do so on a teachers salary at this time. (it is $99 to confirm that the camera is breaking, which we already know is occurring due to the series of lights and current numerous reports online from other Honda owners and dealership).

Automatic emergency brake bleeps warning and brakes get locked while driving. This happens all the the without any objects nearby or vehicles close enough to initiate the emergency brake. Emergency brake engages and locks itself in normal driving conditions. This has happened multiple times, and put the driver in serious hazard in busy traffic.

Forward emergency collision detect system went off randomly and slammed on brakes. No cars or objects were in front of the car. Was going 30mph. Car hit brakes so hard that abs engaged. Almost got rear ended. After car nearly came to stop, returned to normal driving.
The automated braking system deployed at maximum braking without warning 3 times in 60 miles of highway driving (this was the first time I had driven this car on a highway). The road in front was completely clear of both cars and debris for several miles, it was sunny without glare, and the road was dry. The one common factor was that all 3 times occurred while passing a semi truck, as I pulled level with the cab. I was thrown forward against the seatbelt while the car slammed on its brakes while beeping and flashing the orange 'brake' warning, dropping from highway speeds by about 25 mph before I was able to intervene. Thankfully there was also no traffic behind me, so I was able to recover control of the vehicle, but otherwise this would have absolutely caused a collision. Prior to this incident, there were no warning signs or indications of a problem. I had purchased the vehicle as a certified pre-owned vehicle less than a week before, at which point it had been thoroughly inspected by the dealership and certified as free from issues. I have reported the issue to the dealership, but from cursory searching online it appears this is a known, unremediated issue - a quote from wilde east towne Honda (not my dealer): "you may find that cmbs is giving you notifications and even feedback when no threat is detected. That is normal on occasions. . . Cmbs picks up 'optical illusions' occasionally".
All the warning lights that signal problems with the car came on including the brake system lights (tire pressure, emissions, check engine, etc,) dealer said it was due to a faulty fuel injector despite this is a brand new car with no history of accidents whatsoever.
