1 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

On [xxx], I down payment for the purchase of a 2010 Honda Fit, for $6,258. 00 with 24 Ford of easton, 703 washington st. , south easton, MA 02375. License motor dealer , on [xxx], the tmps dashboard light was on. . . Ford replaced them, but as presently ([xxx]) light is still on, they told me tmps would go off after I drove car around. April 19, 2025, last tmps sensor was put on a 4th tire, I was in the car repair area and noticed a broken sway bar link and a bubble & cracks on tire, Ford noticed it but did not offer to fix it and let me drive off dealership lot with broken sway bar and bad tire. It was negligent, and unsafe to drive. 30 day lemon law ended on [xxx]. Also, there was a recall for a driveshaft, which I found out via the internet. On may 13, 2025 I went to a Honda dealership and they replaced the driveshaft. I went to axp repair shop to get sway bar link fixed, and a new tire, which cost me $250. 00. 24 Ford did not inspect my car until March 14, 2025 after they replaced the last tire sensor. Since the tmps light was on they didn't even put a reject inspection on my car window and let me drive it without any sticker. They put my life and others at risk of a fatal accident, negligent in letting me drive off their Ford dealership lot with a broken sway bar link and bubble/cracks on tire. Everything is very rusty under the car carriage. I do not feel safe driving car. I call it a deathtrap. Also per carfax it was parked someplace for a year 01/01/2024 - 01/01/2025. 24 Ford out it up for sale 01/2025. They didn't do any routine oil change, dirty air filters. Axp and Honda told me I need $2,000. 00 - $4,000. 00 worth of repairs to make car safe. Ford brought it at an auction. I was really scammed by the deceptive practices and lies. I need to get this information out to the public and I am trying to get my money back and return the savage car back to jon yes easton motor cars, 703 washington st. South easton, MA. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.

2 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 06/26/2023

There is a very loud clunking or loud clicking sound coming from the front right brakes. I took the vehicle to the dealership to be looked at 4 times and the final determination was it was a brake clicking which the service advisor described as normal. The noise is so loud specially when cold it feels like something is going to break at some point. He said the manufacturer did this on purpose to keep the brakes from overheating. I have done some research and it has happened to many other Honda owners as well. It just feels so unsafe to drive a vehicle with that noise every time you drive it specially when its brakes related.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/06/2023

Driving down the highway yesterday at 75 mph. Car said check starter system. Started blinking. All dash lights and system turned off then on then off again. Power steering went off. Car died while going 75 mph. Abs system went down with it too. Had to hard steer and shift down. Parked on side of highway on shoulder. Towed to mechanic who said it's the alternator. Fit has about 125000 miles on it. The start switch was replaced 3 times recall then faulty by Honda dealership. Then the starter needed to be replaced by Honda dealership. Then the battery twice by o'reilly. Now the alternator by my mechanic. This is not usual for Hondas to have to replace all of those. Seems as though this is a faulty starter system manufacturing. I could've died, had I not been trained by the military on what to do if vehicle lost power.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/11/2019

I was in reverse backing into my parking space and all of a sudden my gas petel accelerated driving my car so fast over a curb and into a stone wall. This is not the only vehicle that reported to Honda american, but the same malfunction of gas petal causing the vehicle to accelerate at a high speed. Reported to my insurance and Honda american. My car now if I put it in drive it starts driving on its own. Also in reverse it starts driving on its own. I don't have to step on the. Gas petal it moves on its own. I am awaiting for Honda America to send a representative to my Honda dealer with me to inspect. I am asking Honda american to pay repair of my vehicle. $1,082. 00. Honda is willing to tow my car, but can't promise me a vehicle while being repaired. Honda America sent someone to tow my car, without notification to me. I canceled the tow, for I had fractured my elbow and needed to speak with Honda America. I am waiting for a return phone call to so we may get my car inspected by a Honda representative. I will not pay to have my car repaired, for it was a malfunction of the gas petal. Others have reported this problem, but it is not listed as a serious problem which is unsafe to drive.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/17/2018

I have owned this car 2 weeks. I parked the Fit in front of the garage, left the engine running and set the handbrake. I got out to open the door. I was 6 feet from the car when I heard a metallic pop. I turned to see it rolling backwards down the drive. I ran to it but could not stop it. It was slowed by a mound of dirt and stopped by a small tree. I am very sure my thumb was not on the lever button. I worked the lever many times and can detect no unusual sound or feel.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

~tl the contact owns a 2013 Honda Fit. While driving 5 mph in reverse, the contact inadvertently depressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal. 14 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

In extreme cold weather the brake pedal is rock hard and will not budge. After warming it up it will work, but intermittently, it will happen while driving. I will go to push the brake pedal and it won't budge and the car keeps going. I nearly crashed the other day. It has happened more than once. It's a very dangerous situation and if anyone were walking in front of my car during the episode, they would be killed. The other day I was able to swerve toward a guard rail instead of hitting the car in front of me. In the mornings I have to let the car warm up because I cannot even press on the hard brake. I'm not alone after researching this. It's not the brakes themselves. They work fine, it is the brake pedal and something mechanical, a valve or hose or something. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm a daughter, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, and a friend. I want to stick around! this happens when the car is stationary and when the car is moving. Luckily it has happened when I was on backroads and the car behind me noticed me having trouble and slowed down. I lost all control.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

After 10,000 miles several deep concentric grooves are worn into the front brakes. My dealership, walsh Honda (laura meeks), responded to my email concern (with pictures) that these are "not uncommon and no safety concern". Walsh Honda scheduled me to replace my rear brake shoes on 9/5. Walsh Honda offering to replace rear brake shoes (which are perfectly fine) to fix deep front rotor grooves is not acceptable obviously.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/23/2017

The contact owned a 2008 Honda Fit. While driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, a tractor trailer pulled in front of the vehicle. The brake pedal was depressed to disengage the cruise control; however, the vehicle accelerated instead. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed a second time and the vehicle accelerated again. The vehicle crashed through several bushes in the median of the highway and came to a stop on the opposite side of the highway towards oncoming traffic. The contact was not injured and a police report was not filed. The contact stated that the shift lever was in the park position; however, the cruise control indicator was still illuminated and the engine revved independently. The vehicle was turned off and towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired and the insurance company deemed the vehicle destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.

17 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/21/2016

I was positioning my car outside my office for loading. I backed in, then put the car in 'd(rive)' to inch forward a bit. Before I could step on the gas, the car accelerated and with engine racing headed toward a high curb beyond which stood a large, mature tree. I slammed on the brakes but to no avail; the pedal went limply to the floor without affect. At the same time I shifted into n(eutral), again without affect. I grabbed for the hand brake but it was too late. The car jumped the high curb and ploughed into the tree. Knowing that my foot had not slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator pedal, I checked the NHTSA website and was shocked to see numerous similar stories about the Honda Fit covering a decade! my fear is that Honda will not take this product defect seriously until someone is killed!.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/09/2016

I stopped fairly heavily, and while the car stopped well as expected, the brake pedal continued to drop almost to the floor. Mileage is approximately 58,000 miles. Rear brakes are oem. .

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

Unintended and sudden acceleration. November 2015 the car was making a right hand turn into a parking space, while pressing the brake the car suddenly accelerated the brakes did not work, the car traveled about 70 feet before stopping. Took it to tom wood Honda all they checked was the brakes and said it was fine. Update: February 2016 making a right hand turn into a parking space at a panera bread gently tapped the brakes the car accelerated and went thru the door at panera bread. Tom wood Honda checked the brakes says its fine and released it to the collision center. I am making lease payments on this car but when it's repaired it is staying at the lot. It accelerates on it's own and is going to kill someone. I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive it. I also cannot afford insurance wise to drive a car I know accelerates when it decides to.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while driving, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to correspond due to the anti lock brake functioning. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

I drove into my driveway to park in our car port. As I approached the car port the car suddenly accelerated. I applied the brakes but it did not even slow down. The car went over a 8 inch by 4 inch barrier at the front of the car port, continued to gain speed as it went through a small garden, then it knocked down our privacy fence. All during this time I was applying the brake. The car then went about 60 feet through our neighbors yard and continued through the next houses' privacy fence and went another 6 feet and finally stopped when it hit the house. The air bags never released.

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

On several occasions the brakes on my car have locked and I have had to use the parking break to stop. Both instances have occurred in very cold weather, early in the morning, so fortunately no injuries occurred. In both cases the break was pressed, and the car was reversed. In the first case the break was then used to stop the car, the car was placed in drive, and then the break became locked in an upright position and the car was not able to be stopped with the break after accelerating in drive. The car was driven out of a driveway and onto a main road. The parking break was employed to stop the car from hitting a fence. On the second occasion the car was put in reverse and the break then became locked in the upright position. The parking break was again employed to prevent backing into other cars. In both cases the breaks then functioned normally thereafter. The car was taken to a repair shop for this problem and when no abnormality could be detected (in warmer weather) Honda was contacted. Honda advised of a defect in the valve of the power boost for the automatic breaks in which it becomes stuck in an open position in cold weather. The valve is being replaced at the shop, as Honda will not cover the repair since there is no recall for this problem! I was very lucky in that both instances occurred at hours when there are not many cars on the road. I hope that no one becomes injured from this defect.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

When I purchased the car on may 31st 2013 the brakes seemed mushy. When I took it in 3 months later to the dealer to have a tire fixed (nail) they said they checked but saw nothing so I assumed this was the way the brakes should be. A few times when I had to brake hard the whole car shuddered and again they said nothing was wrong. So here we are after 15 months later and I had the brakes checked again as they were squeaking a bit. My mechanic said they were ok, then a week later around oct. 9th the brakes began to scream metal on metal it sounded like to me. So I called the customer care people and asked about a warranty for the brakes and was told "OH yes lots of people have the same problem with that particular car, but it is not in the warranty. " needless to say I was a bit upset and took it to my mechanic who replaced them ($335) and said that there was no spring to separate them and it was done in the factory so they seized up. I can't imagine what might have happened if this wasn't caught when it was and I consider this a huge safety problem. I don't know how you would go about warning people but I decided to make you aware of my experience.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

I was driving west devon with the speed limit 20, I was going at 5 to 08 miles or less,in a second I felt the car accelerate by himself , I tried to stop, the breaks did not repond and hit a car in front of me. The inpact was like some one was pushing me, when I hit the car and I have mi selt belt on, the air bag did not work, for the damage in my car the was soo bad that the whole front was damage so bad for the speed, that I am not sure if this car safe for my wife to drive. This is wake call for the safety of my family I am sure as soon the repair is done I will trade this car. This car is like driving with plastic metal. I saw in the internet Honda recall some Fit models.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/17/2014

My 2008 Honda Fit sport began having a "surging" issue from the 2nd week after I bought it new in 2008. I would tap the brakes to slow down and the engine would surge. Hitting the brakes a second time usually stopped it but throwing it into neutral helped too. I reported it frequently to the Honda dealer and they could not find the problem and said they had never heard of it. It continued for 4 years, and then seemed to stop for the next two years. This past March, it started again, and I was able to stop the car before an accident occurred. Then it happened while I was coming down the hill I live on. The car was in 2nd gear (using the shifter), and I tapped the brakes to slow a bit. The engine began accelerating and going faster. The brakes did no good; neither did the emergency brake; finally, the brakes gave out and my foot was flat on the floor. I finally put it into park and it slowed down to a stop. I had it towed to the dealer and they found no problem, even though I put it into park while moving, nor could they find any reason for the acceleration. American Honda is no help either. They did buy the car back, but have sold it as a used car, and I fear for the person who purchased it. I'm sure they did not look into the problem further. On your website, I found seven (7) similar reports for the 2008 Fit and five (5) more for the 2009. Owners have reported this problem on edmunds. Com for several years, yet the Honda sales manager did not want to look at the printout I gave him. Here are the nhsta id#s that report a similar problem: 10523098, 1049187, 10425811, 10344231, 10323002, 10317179, 10282552, 10266390, 10368077, 10329557, 10308988, 10280593. Please investigate this matter - it is very serious.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

I was traveling east on route 322 near dauphin, PA at about 55 mph. I was in the right hand lane. A car traveling in the left hand lane cut in front of me. To avoid hitting him, I applied the brakes hard. My car suddenly went out of control, fishtailing in the lane and then suddenly went into the left hand lane. I turned the steering wheel to the right. The rear end of the car swung around hitting a bridge abutment, bounced off, and went back into the right hand lane. I was finally able to straighten the car out and pull over to the shoulder and stop it. Fortunately I did not hit anyone, but did significant damage to my car. This incident reminded me of an accident I had years ago with the chevy citation and the brakes locked on me. Is the same thing happening with the Fit? I know it has abs, but things can and do go wrong. I asked the repair shop to look at the brakes, they did not see anything. But the problem may not be visible.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Noticed the braking after initially starting the vehicle and driving has a spongy response with the travel of the brake going to the floor. This happens periodically. I thought it was because of the car not being used often, but this has occurred after the car has been sitting after only a short while.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/05/2012

My 2008 Honda Fit sometimes experiences loss of braking power when it has been started after sitting for many hours. This behavior is not always present, but is intermittent, perhaps occurring about 50% of the time. There is a very large loss of braking power, such that the car will roll to a stop, even if I apply strong pressure to the pedal or if I pump the brakes. The brake pedal can be depressed only a very short amount of travel when this behavior occurs, and the pedal does not go to the floor. If I wait with the engine running and in "park" for several minutes, then the problem goes away, and the brakes work normally. I had bought this car used in spring of 2011 from its first owner, and experienced this problem for the first time in approximately July 2012. Since that time, the problem has become more common.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

I slammed on brakes to avoid a pedestrian and the brake pedal went almost to the floor and my foot hit the accelerator -- the car stopped with engine racing, narrowly missing the pedestrian. This hitting-the-accelerator-when-braking has happen twice since. Dealer says the brakes are operating normally. To me, it seems a design fault.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/24/2012

I was driving on a freeway(slow lane) in santaclara, California at about 50 miles per hour. I saw a car infront of me stopped 100% near an exit. I applied brake really hard, even though there was more the 4/5 car distance my car didn't stop and hit the car infront of me. My airbag opened and I received some burns. I am 100% sure I hit the brake really hard but my car took way too long time stop only after hitting a vehicle. Hope this car is recalled and does not cause inconvenience to others.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

After attempting to make an emergency stop on a city street on a sunny day with about 2. 5 car lengths between my Fit and an accord. The vehicle's abs system overreacted and caused the vehicle to become very choppy, dramatically increasing the distance it took to stop. This caused my vehicle to rear end the accord. In retrospect, had I not applied 100% brake force and did not trigger the abs, I may have been able to stop the vehicle just short of rear ending the other vehicle. I have experienced similar situations under various road and weather conditions with this vehicle, where the abs activates prematurely and remains active, even when there should be sufficient grip. Even light pressure on the brake pedal while going over some pot holes and up onto drive ways triggers the abs system. I never paid much attention to this issue because I always leave enough space between myself and other vehicles, but after doing some online research after my accident, it has become apparent to me that I am not the only individual experience abs problems with this vehicle. Nor am I the only individual who has reported this issue to the NHTSA. As a note, I have driven various small and large vehicles - with and without abs - and they have never been reacted so poorly in an emergency/panic situation. It should be noted that these abs problems occurred with the factory dunlop tires as my recent accident with performance (grippy) firestone firehawk wide oval indy 500 tires (with >50 tread). I have not gotten the estimate for the damage to my vehicle, but the front bumper is damaged as well as the hood - not sure if there is any frame damage. No airbags were deployed, no occupants were harmed. I will also reach out to Honda America. Please look into this issue. Thank you.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/19/2011

Accelerated out of an intersection, from a stop at a stop sign, car lost power, steering. . . Coasted across intersection to a stop. Called for a tow. While waiting, attempted to start car-it started. Drove home and had it towed to dealer, examined for several days, could not find a problem to fix. Same problem just occurred while car was in motion driving at approximately 30 miles per hour. Car suddenly lost steering/power. Got car to side of road. The contact owns a 2011 Honda Fit sport. The contact stated that the emergency brake cable was exposed. The contact was concerned with the possibility that the vehicle could roll away. The dealer advised the contact that the entire cable could possibly need replacing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, did not offer any assistance. No repairs were performed. 35 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/23/2011

I bought a new Honda Fit in Aug 2010. Last winter I had several frightening situations with brakes when there was snow on the ground. Approaching other vehicles at a stop, the brakes would lock/not grip even at less than 5 mph. I took the car to dealer and they said nothing was wrong with the brakes, maybe I needed new tires (on a brand new car!) I spent the winter driving in terror of someone pulling out in front of me. I just took the car in today for a 1 year inspection - at 11,000 miles the brakes need replacement (dealer said I should do it at my next oil change for $290 and "maybe my emergency brake was not disengaging when I start off in the morning" - I drive a standard) I have been driving for 40 years and driving a standard for 21 years. The problem is the brakes, not my driving.
