I am filing a formal complaint regarding two critical manufacturing defects on my 2018 Honda Hr-v that pose immediate safety risks and financial losses: 1. Critical safety issue (instrument gauge failure): the digital display gauge on the right side of the driver's dashboard consistently blinks out and displays entirely unreadable, corrupted characters. This failure makes it impossible to monitor the fuel gauge or know how much gasoline remains in the vehicle. This defect is highly temperature-dependent, becoming severely worse during colder months. Not being able to read the fuel gauge creates an immediate, dangerous safety hazard, risking sudden, unexpected engine stalling on active highways or getting stranded in hazardous conditions. 2. Manufacturing defect (paint delamination): the vehicle is exhibiting severe paint peeling and flaking on the roof in four distinct places. The exterior clear coat and base coat are actively separating from the underlying primer due to an inherent manufacturing adhesion failure. The vehicle features the white orchid pearl color (paint code: nh-788p). American Honda motor CO. Previously acknowledged this exact production defect by issuing a warranty extension under technical service bulletin (TSB) 19-064, extending coverage for 2016–2018 Hr-vs for 7 years. However, because this premature failure is only now manifesting on my vehicle, Honda corporate and local dealerships are refusing to cover the thousands of dollars in necessary repair costs, claiming the 7-year window has expired. Limiting the remedy to an arbitrary timeframe for an inherent manufacturing defect leaves consumers with a structurally degrading vehicle (exposure to rust and metal deterioration) & zero recourse. Respectfully request that the office of defects investigation compel american Honda to address the dashboard electrical failures and expand or reopen the remedy for known white pearl paint peeling defect to ensure consumer safety& manufacturer accountability.
Car paint is white orchid pearl and had been issued NHTSA complaint about it. The manufacturer lately issued warranty for the paint limited to 7 years (Mar/2025). Car paint started to chip off firstly on the driver side door as a small spot in 2022 and when notified the dealer, they did not pay much attention. Later on it was peeling off on the windshield on the passenger side. By the time I brought it to dealer's attention during a routine maintenance in Apr/2025, it was pass the manufacturer warranty and was told they cannot do anything about. Suddenly on Jun/2026 the car paint on the roof started to peel off in sheets exposing several inches at once. And the spots that were already damaged are now very wide spread. It surely indicate a manufacturing defect and when contact american Honda for assistance they claim it passed the warranty and now the responsibility if the customer. I find this not acceptable and why I should be bearing the fault of the manufacturer and that happen right after their limited warranty ending make me to think that of a hoax and ingenuine.
Was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -yes. February 6th 8:30pm burbank, CA, intersection glenoaks blvd and e. Cypress Ave - the alley (525 n. Glenoaks blvd, burbank, CA) there was a huge rainfall this evening. I was heading east on glenoaks blvd and was about to make a "u" going back opposite direction. Making sure there is no on going or opposite traffic, safely I made a "u" turn on a parking lot, the first parking spot. . And some of a sudden I realised that my car was touched some obstacle. It was a street light pole but from that pole there was a supporting 45 degrees angle metal wire going across a parking spot! I was not able to see a metal wire because of a light reflection and working windshield wipers. ! this metal wire went through my front of a car and cracked the front bumper, left fender I was not able to open my driver door. My speed by doing "u" turn was about 5 miles per hour. . I called to my incurance took a picture of an incident location they came up to me with an estimate $1. 553. 00. . . This is insane and might be definitely dungerous for motocycles and scooters. I have all the pictures, and video as well. Thank you!.
I am writing to report a serious issue with the paint on my white pearl Honda Hr-v. The roof paint began peeling in 2023, and I initially attempted a minor repair using a paint pen from autozone. However, the problem has worsened significantly over the past six months. Recently, I took the vehicle to maaco for an estimate, and they quoted approximately $2,400 to repaint the roof and side panels. I also contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they confirmed that I had purchased an extended warranty which expired in October 2024. After researching the issue, I discovered that paint peeling is a common and widely reported problem for white pearl Honda models. I spoke with both american Honda and the dealership on July 2025, and while the Honda representative acknowledged that they are receiving many similar complaints, they stated that the company is still investigating the root cause and does not currently offer compensation. They classified the issue as normal wear and tear. I keep my vehicle well maintained, and it is only 8 years old. I strongly believe this is a manufacturing defect, not a result of neglect or environmental wear. I would like to formally file a complaint and request that Honda take responsibility for this issue. Thank you for your time and attention. I can provide additional photographs, repair estimates, and additional documentation upon request.
Roof and pillar paint peeling.
The paint on my car has started to chip away and will eventually result in rust. I have contacted Honda multiple times and have heard back zero times.
I tried to swerve to avoid hitting the car in front of me.
The paint on my 2018 Honda Hr-v is chipping on almost every surface of the vehicle. It started on the roof, which has turned into about a 2ft in length surface, and it is now peeling on all 4 doors.
Tl- the contact owns a 2018 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that water would leak into the trunk of their vehicle whenever it rained or snow melted. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000. Gl.
I filled out this form and tried to submit, but saw an error according to your system. I have a paint problem with my 2018 Honda hrv. I see online that there are paint problems with the 2018 hrv, fit, & accord. The recall that I saw was for a different color than my vehicle. What I also saw was that the manufacturer put too thin of a clear coat on the vehicles. The dealership is claiming that my problem is not covered because it is an environmental issue. . . Tree sap or bird droppings, which is the out that has been given to them. Guessing that the manufacturer has told them to use this to disallow claims. This is clearly a manufacturing defect. I have never had a vehicle that has done this because of bird droppings or tree sap. I have only had one vehicle that a maker volunteered to fix. . . That was a Toyota vehicle. Al, of the rest of the manufacturers want to make you take them to court to get resolve. I am giving an estimate of the time/mileage of the notice of the problem.
