1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 01/16/2025

The car was serviced due to a recall about fuel pump defect and after the service, the car was halted in the middle of the trip. This incident is not acceptable and especially the recall service was supposed to fix that problem. The sudden stop of malfunctioning fuel pump could cause collision, injury and possible lives!.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 10/11/2024

Engine will start shaking and making a helicopter sound while idling or driving under 45. Check engine light will begin to blink. While on the interstate, engine began to shake loudly making helicopter sound. Then it began to decelerate from 75 to 40 on the interstate before stalling out completely. I had to coast it into the pull off lane to avoid being hit. Spark plugs were replaced, but issue continues. Mechanic said it sounds like a fuel pump issue when I recorded it on video. When we restarted the car, engine light was not on so error codes could not be read.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

I am writing to report a potentially serious safety issue with my vehicle. My car recently had its fuel pump replaced/repaired as part of a recall. However, only about 2 years after this recall repair, my car stopped accelerating while I was driving. This left me and my toddler stranded in the middle of the road in 110 degrees, creating a dangerous situation for us and other drivers. I took the vehicle to the dealership, where they diagnosed that the fuel pump needs to be replaced again. This is concerning as fuel pumps are typically expected to last up to 100,000 miles, and mine was just recently replaced/repaired due to the recall. This incident has caused significant hardship: it put my child and me in a potentially dangerous roadside situation. I lost a day's wages due to being unable to get to work. I am now faced with paying for over a thousand dollars of repairs, as I have no other option. I need my vehicle to get to work and transport my child. I am concerned that there may be a persistent issue with the fuel pumps in this vehicle model, or that the recall repair was not performed adequately. My Honda service consultant mentioned that there was a Honda bulletin letting them know of this sort of problem in cars that my make/model/year falls under and beckoned to another car with seemingly the same issue. This leaves me wondering why a, to all intents and purposes, common issue is a bulletin for instead of a recall. I request that the NHTSA investigate this matter to ensure the safety of other drivers who may have had the same recall repair. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

I received a letter from Honda indicating a recall for the fuel pump impeller. The only thing Honda failed to say was for me to go to a dealership to get this fixed. Instead they sent a letter saying that they know the recall is needed but they didn’t know when they would have the piece available. I believe the letter was received in January 2024. Still to this date I haven’t received a letter from Honda indicating to take my vehicle in for repair. I am not sure how Honda is not prioritizing this as according to their letter our cars can stall while driving causing an accident. I would like my vehicle fixed as I don’t want to drive everyday and worry that my car will stall and possibly kill me. I have felt my gas pedals to feel weird as there’s times that I push the gas and my car accelerates too fast and there are times when I take my foot off the gas pedal it like shakes a little. My car has been feeling very different with regards to the gas pedal. I am concerned that it has to do with the recall.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 01/24/2023

Fuel pump damage. 2019 and 2020 have recalls but not in this VIN range. Same failure issue though presents.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 08/03/2022

I was driving at 65-70 mph on a freeway, and all of a sudden the car speed dropped even my foot is on the gas pedal, the car slow down to 40mph when decided to pull over to the shoulder, barely enough time to get out of danger. The car engine shot down by its self, I could not move the vehicle to the far right ass I wanted too. The warning light on dash board indicated in red " power system " bottom of it in white light " power system problem do not drive" then a minute later, the warning light changed to a red logo of a battery 12 volt battery charging system problem do not drive.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

On July 22, 2022 I was driving my Honda Insight 2020. I was on the highway, current mileage on vehicle 50,796 miles, my speed was normal at 65 mph when the car lost the ability to accelerate and it stalled. I was forced to make an emergency stop on the side of the interstate. Vehicle displayed on the dashboard "critical failure detected. Stop driving when safe" the acceleration on the car kept decreasing and when stop it displayed "power system problem. Do not drive. " pulling to the side of the interstate was very scary because trucks were flying at about 80mph. I requested for tow company to pick me up but after hour wait, I gave up waiting on the tow truck. I restarted the vehicle and I was able to take off again. The fuel gas showed half of tank so I continue to drive. Forty miles later down the road, the same issue occurred again. I waited 30 minutes and since I was near a gas station I filled up the gas tank to full capacity. I drove another 100 miles (very skeptical) until I reached my final destination. During my drive I felt like the car had difficulties going into gear above 65mph. The following day I took the vehicle to the Honda dealer, they said they couldn't pin point exactly what it is. Test show no issues on their diagnostic computer. However, the computer show a record of time and issue happening. They believe it is a fuel pump sensor relay. The vehicle senses I am out of fuel, which is not the case. Honda dealer will replace the sensor/relay and I will pay for it. The dealer states this vehicle is not part of a fuel pump recall. This issue needs to be addressed before it creates a scenario with fatalities, which can easily occur.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 05/20/2022

Fuel pump failed issue causing gas gauge and battery not to register levels.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

It had problems with this car in the first 500 miles on oct 31st 2021 while driving on long island expressway in nassau county, NY. I have proof. I took pictures of the dashboard while getting lots of error codes while driving and only had 500 miles on the car. I experience loss of power, loss of steering and brake failure while driving on the long island expressway. I was lucky to be near an exit and I let the car roll away through the exit and I was able to pull over to the side of the service road of lie. After an hour the car started. I didn't know then, but this car has had chewed up wires ever since I picked it up from the dealership in pennsylvania( Honda vinart of emmaus, PA ). I observed exposed wires when I changed oil for the first time in December 2021. At that time, I thought it is a hybrid thing and didn't think much about it. I was driving with exposed wires this entire time! I could had had the brakes lock up or lose complete power while driving on the highway and cause a major accident. You can try to deflect he blame away from Honda manufacturer, but we all know it is your fault. On March 4th 2022, the Honda Insight barely started , engine knocking and sputtering. I towed it to the staten island Honda service (which estimated the damage at $7000 , but the warranty doesn't cover ) and they told me that a rodent finished the job Sunday night. The soy based harness on my 2022 Honda Insight attracts rodents. Why didn't the rodents attack my wife car that is parked right next to mine in the same driveway? I never had this type of problem with the other cars I owned in the past. I had owned dozens of cars and left them months parked in my driveway and they never attracted any rodents. This is a warranty issue and a safety issue . I could have been killed while driving with exposed wires. How do I even know, that other wires are also chewed? can I trust this car to be reliable anymore? a $30,000 car that can be my death trap.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 12/12/2019

My hybrid battery is overheating which my hybrid battery is 7 years old with only 31,680 miles on it and its affecting the integrated motor assist and the monitor screen with the control gauges and my vehicles acceleration and making it impossible to drive without it shutting off and locking up, I talked to Honda and they refuse to fix it even tho other customers have had the same issue with the hybrid battery and it should still be covered because of the mileage its be used for and has been stored and highly taken care of, the epa classifies hybrid batteries under emissions equipment, requiring manufacturers to warranty them for eight years and 100,000 miles. Some states, like California, require emissions equipment to be covered for ten years and 150,000 miles. If the battery fails within warranty range, your total replacement cost is zero.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

The vehicle has on-going "oil consumption" issues that american Honda neglected to address. As a result, the oil goes up exhaust pipes to caused engine over heat and blow up during driving on highway. American Honda issued an "internal memo" to extend engine warranty to 8 years without notifying car owners. However, they failed to cover our blew-up engine when the first time happened and charged us $4600 for an used engine. Within 8 months, the second engine blew up again on the highway. American Honda finally covered the second engine repair. The american Honda rejected to reimburse the first engine blow-up. They denied anything wrong with the engine, but the extended the warranty to 8 years??? we have the records for both engine blow-ups.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

The Honda Insight 2013 apparently has defects in the oil consumption level. I was driving my car a month ago with my oil service renewed completely at a dealershop and suddenly a month later the car started to show me signs of (oil change need to repair) and an emission system signal on the front led screen inside the car. I knew at the moment it was not my fault for not putting the oil on time but it was the car's oil consumption level I know this by experience because on the other cars it does not happen but the Honda Insight does. It also made a large clunk noise which meant that I had to put more oil inside the car to keep the car from not functioning anymore. There needs to be a recall for this type of vehicle because I feel like I am not the only person that has this type of problem.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

I purchased my car in July 2015 from a used car dealership. It had approximately 64k miles on it. A month later my check emissions light came on while driving in a residential area. The car had received a complete oil change the day I purchased it but I took it to a local service shop where they informed me my car was low on oil. A month later the check emissions light came on again. It was a quart low. I added a quart (not cheap for hybrids as Honda recommends api premium grade 0w-20 detergent oil only). Another month passes and the check emissions light comes on again after I just turned the ignition on. Also I had started experiencing the engine stalling. Example, going from breaking to accelerating it simply stalls. Takes about 30 seconds before acceleration begins to engage. In December, as I drove up a hill the car started stuttering. At the top of the hill my speed dropped to 16 mph and wouldn't go any faster. I pulled over, turned off the engine, waited a few minutes then started it again. I stepped on the accelerator and it crawled to 11 mph. The car was towed to the nearest Honda dealership where the service department informed me I needed spark plugs. That was 12/18/2015. Mileage was at around 66k. A week later they said the oil was leaking into the cylinders and they needed to check with Honda to see what repairs they were willing to cover. Estimated parts/labor=$8000. It's not on the recall list but should be, as there are so many complaints. Honda is not willing to give a loaner vehicle during this whole ordeal. My service advisor informed me I could pick up my personal belongings from my car as it didn't appear I would be getting it back anytime soon! I loved my car and the Honda brand but this has turned me completely off. Today is 1/11/2016 and still no word from Honda about my car or the responsibility they are going to take.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

[I have the svc records for this info-points of contact are at the end of the report] on Jan 8th at about 630 am I was driving on i495w in va - I was at the intersection of i495 and the exits for i95s and i395 washington. I was driving about 55 miles/hr and my car engine simply stopped. I put my hazards on and glided to the side of the road. The car has 125,400 miles--I purchased it new in Feb, 2012. I was towed to sheehy Honda, alexandria, va. They said the spark plugs were fouled and replaced them. After replacement, they said the there was oil in the spark plug cylinders. They then told me that they could not fix my car - engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $12,000. I called american Honda and the case manager said the cause of the stall was oil in the combustion chamber. I gave her the car history-she said the car was out of warranty- they would not be able to provide me substantial assistance for engine replacement. She did offer to investigate the case but gave no estimate for completion. I have traded the car in on a new prius. Bkgrnd- problems began with low oil pressure light flashing at 75,000 in Dec, 2013. Since then I have been burning (1) quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I brought the car in about (8) times to my normal service ctr, heritage Honda, parkville, MD, for oil sensor replacements and oill consumption checks conducted by the dealership between Dec,2013-july2014. I also had oil changes at jiffy lube. In July, 2014 at 100,000 miles the car stalled out on i95. I drifted to the side of the road, restarted and brought it to heritage Honda. They said it needed new spark plugs. I continued to do normal oil changes and, in between, added (1) qt oil per 1000miles until the incident on Jan 8. Pocs american Honda - julie, 18009991009, case n012015011201838; heritage Honda, rob peters, 410-663-7100;sheehy Honda, eddy cruz - 703-660-0100.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Honda Insight

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

When I stop or take off my car excelerates on its own. Or it jerks. I am afraid it will hit someone or make me go out into the traffic. Also my airbag light comes on when I put a large object in the seat not a person.
