4 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

Driving on i270 south towards 33 east at 65 mph with 4 teenagers and 1 8 week old baby in my 2000 Honda Odyssey and the rear sliding passenger door flies open on its own. My 6 year old daughter was sitting in the seat next to the door when it flew open. It scared her half to death as she was staring at the pavement going by at 65 mph. The door wasn't even on. I turn them off because I am afraid of them opening when they shouldn't after hearing all the stories about these doors. It's a good thing my daughter had her seatbelt on and sitting in her seat or this could have been very tragic. No one died this time. Why will Honda not see there is a serious safety issue here. The latch has been replaced numerous times and yet it is still failing to the point the door will not stay shut on it's own. Something must be done before someone dies here!!!.

5 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2008

Right sliding door fails to open. Would allow manual opening on several occasion then the door latched into locked position and wouldn't open even manually. Taken to dealer service center. That worked on it half a day to find that they really didn't know what was wrong and can't determine the problem. No remedy. Took to a Honda/Acura shop to have looked at. Same outcome. Said everything looks to be in working order however they couldn't determine why door was not opening and could not get the door opened. Claw that hooks to latch will not release. Dealer service center suggested cutting the latch with plasma cutters in order to get the door open, however they could not determine if the would be able to fix the problem even then. We can't find anyone who can fix the door. We are in a safety dilemma as our 2 year olds car seats sits on this side of the door. Should there be an emergency we would not be able to exit the vehicle fast enough to get all three children out due to the door not working. Can anyone provide a solution?????.

6 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the sliding doors would not close proper and would come off track while closing automatically. The contact had to push the door back on track in order for the doors to be closed and locked. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic where the mechanic advised that the upper track for the door latch assembly needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA campaign id number: 00v119000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) but the contact was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The failure mileage was 180,000.

7 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2007

2000 Honda odyessy. Sliding door(s) will not totally close sometimes, or will appear closed. Will be turning a corner and the door alarm will go off and door will click like coming ajar. With children in the car, it could be dangerous. Have to stop and open door all the way and then reclose, then lock and most of the time will help, not always. Have taken to Honda dealer and after $600 repair it lasted a two weeks before it started to it again.

8 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2007

2000 Honda Odyssey with automatic sliding doors that malfunction. The door does not close all the way. The door is not flush with the side (rear) panel. There is about a 3/8 inch gap between the rear panel and the back of the door. I am concerned that the door might not protect the occupants because it is not secure. Will the door fly off during an impact? I have had to turn off the power to the doors so that it operates manually. However, it is very difficult to open and close - my wife and fours kids, including my 15 year old son cannot open or close the door manually. I am concerned about exiting the vehicle in an emergency. The kids may be in a situation where they are trapped. It also would become a problem if we had to enter the vehicle quickly and were not able to do so.

9 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2007

Sliding door on year 2000 Honda Mini van jams partially closed. Released after car goes over several bumps in road, allowing door to slam shut similar to guillotine. Van taken in for repair, Honda service personnel familiar with problem: defective plastic bearing on door. Plastic bearing probably failed in part due to jamming of door's seals (which have a Honda service campaign).

10 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

Honda Odyssey 2000. Some manufacturing defect has caused the rear motorized sliding door to fail on the driver's side. The door will not close securely. If the door handle, outside or inside was pulled or bumped the door came unlatched but will not open or close, whether the vehiclewas in park or not. The door open light did not illuminate so the driver was unaware that children riding in the back were at risk.

11 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2007

Honda Odyssey 2000 sliding door doesn't open or close it is stuck - but it is open enough to have the alarm sounding if you are not in park. I am worried for my children's safety - what if the door decides to fly open in the middle of driving. I feel this vehicle is unsafe and want to know if there is a recall. Looking online there are many complaints of this problem.

12 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

My 2000 lx Honda Odyssey have a problem with the sliding doors leading them to get stuck and we are not able to open them. We live in FL and there are different temperature through the year and this will happen all year round. After talking to the dealer and extensive research we realize that we are not the only ones with this problem. I think that Honda should take a look at these models and acknowledge that they are faulty. Thanks!.

13 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2006

- the contact stated that the drivers side sliding door doesn't lock into position. The contact has a safety recall for his vehicle. Failure Date: 12/20/2006

Power sliding doors, do not close all the time. They will not latch or lock. Honda claims there are "no" problems or defects. $528. 19 later, then they work like it was new. . . . .

15 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2006

: the contact stated while attempting to close the left passenger sliding door, it would not latch nor lock into place. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the door latch needed to be replaced. There was a NHTSA recall,# 00v119000, regarding the door latch. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 12/15/2006 -.

16 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2006

Electronic doors do not shut completely. We believe this is a safety hazard since the doors to not lock completely. The buzzer has to be disabled for our sanity. We have taken the van to the dealer numerous times but a permanent fix cannot be made. These doors have been defective since the van was first released, and they are a safety hazard. I am afraid the partially closed door may open at high speed, causing possible injury to my children, or causing the distracted driver to swerve into oncoming traffic. This defect must be addressed by Honda.

17 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2006

I am the owner of a 2000 Honda Odyssey and am having problems with the rear sliding door not closing. It requires us to drive with the light on which is a safety issue at night. The buzzer sounds intermittently causing us to manually turn off power to the door hence trapping our passengers in the car should there be an accident. My mechanic indicates that there are no technical service bulletins on this problem. This is an incessant problem and a major safety hazard.

18 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2006

We (my wife and I) have a 2000 Honda Odyssey ex. The automatic electric sliding doors are constantly breaking and they cost a small fortune to repair. We purchased the Honda because of their reputation for creating reliable automobiles. At a minimum, they should offer a way to convert the door from automatic to manual so they can be safely closed and so the automatic mechanism doesn't have to be repaired every 6 months.

19 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the sliding doors do not latch properly and open sometimes while the vehicle is moving. He notified the dealer to see if his vehicle applied to recall number 00v119000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch). The dealer stated that his vehicle was not included based off the manufactured date. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure speed and fuel type were unknown. The current mileage was 85,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.

20 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2006

: the contact stated while traveling 45 mph the rear power passenger side door opened. The dealership determined the door latch needs to be replaced. There is a NHTSA recall, # 00v119000, regarding the door latch; however, it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. Updated 6/16/2006 - nm.

21 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2005

Unreliable door latches on sliding (powered) side doors.

22 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2005

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey. Two weeks ago, my sliding door sensor went off for no reason. The doors were closed but when the vehicle was placed into drive the alarm in the car would sound as if one of the doors was open. I checked the doors and after a couple of times of opening and closing them, the alarm did not sound. I was due to have the car serviced for its 75,000 mile service so I waited to bring it into the dealership. When I brought the vehicle in for it's routine service, as I do for each scheduled maintenance, I was told that the door switch was the problem and that it would cost $1,100 to fix. I explained that the vehicle was under an extended warranty that I purchased at the time I bought the vehicle. Honda in turn told me that they had called the warranty company (apparently the warranty was not a Honda extended warranty. Although, this is what rosenthal had portrayed it as) about the repair and that it was not covered. They told me that I could call the warranty company to complain if I felt so inclined to do. I called the warranty company and they said that the warranty had expired because of the mileage. The vehicle is just over 75,063 miles. They did not care that the warranty had expired. My question is how can this be a non-recall issue if a number of people have had the same problem. This situation is the exact reason why I purchased Honda's extended warranty. I believe that Honda is responsible for the repair. If I had know the doors on this vehicle would cost that much to fix I would have never purchased that van.

23 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2005

Automatic doors on 2000 Honda accord do not operate correctly. Safety mechanism does not prevent door from closing on child. Doors do not close completely and are faulty. Doors need complete replacement at 64k miles due faulty equipment.

24 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

Both left and right side passenger sliding door latch/closers failed. The drivers side failed in 02. And the latch was replaced under the warentee. The passenger side has failed recently, Aug. 05. The failure, and replacement parts are as described in a 2000 Honda recall id # 00v119000, but, in contacting Honda directly, was told my vehicles VIN # was not a recall vehicle.

25 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2005

The sliding doors on my van come open after they have been closed. I took it to be repaired twice and it is still not fixed then someone told me that the part that needed to be fixed had been recalled so I contacted Honda and they said that my vehicle VIN number did not fall into this recall even though it said all Honda Odysseys 1999-2001 my Honda is a 2000. He said that I could have it repaired myself because this was a service bulletin not a recall anyway, that their parts don't last forever. The lady at the national highway traffic safety admin. Auto safety hotline said that it was a recall and to contact this web site.

26 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. When the vehicle was started, a chime sounded to indicate that the doors were not latched. Both side sliding doors were shut again, but they would not fully latch. While driving between 2-5 mph, the sliding doors opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they were unsure of what repairs were needed. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 00v119000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch). The failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 57,000.

27 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2004

Over the course of a couple of weekds sliding side doors on the vehicle would open on their own. Then, the sliding door on the passenger side stopped working completely. It would not open without significant application of manual force.

28 Door Latch problem

29 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2004

The caller said the passenger side sliding door opens without warning. It happens when driving. The indicator light comes on , and the alarm goes off. The caller says the door does not open all the way. Had it to the dealer 10 times for this problem. Dealer said it was dirty connections and did not do anything to fix it. Manufacturer will offer no help for free. Also, the caller received a recall letter concerning gas recirculation valve ( egr valve). The manufacturer will not approve the recall work. Also wanted to take vehicle to the dealer. The rotors were resurfaced, the seat reclined when the consumer exited the vehicle.

30 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2004

Driver side rear sliding door fails to close completely - sometimes leaves approximatley a four inch gap between door post and edge of door. Door must either be pushed closed or re-opened completely and then closed with pressure on rear door edge. Occasionally, door will seem locked (dashboard open door indicator light is off) and when making right turns, both the open door indicator light flashes and ceiling map lights will flash on and off when turn has been completed, the lights will go off. After reading all the other consumer complaints, I am extremly concerned that either the door(s) will open during driving or the door(s) will not open during an emergency situation. I cannot believe Honda would subject itself to this type of potential liability.

31 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2004

Power doors consistently fail to operate properly. Passenger side sliding door opens while driving and, often, cannot be shut manually. The last visit to the dealership, 2 days ago, they informed us they would replace some of the door parts. Despite 'fixing' the problem, the door will not shut at all and the dealer replaced the sensors so it no longer buzzes when the door is open. This is a severe problem. Van has been in 12x for this problem. Driver side sliding door often does not open at all.

32 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

Continuous door failures, had corrected by dealer several times, problem always returns. Sliding doors fail to close securely with alarms going off, have to turn off power to side doors. Doors don't always stop when closing and someone is in the way. Door has opened on it's own while we were away from vehicle. Doors fail to open on occasions. Gas door jams sliding door, had it repaired, still a problem.

33 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2004

We have a 2000 Honda Odyssey with 40,000 miles on it. Great car, except the power sliding door latches keep giving out. This happened during warranty period too and was returned to dealer for repair. However, no parts were replaced; they just reset the computer (cleared error codes). But the problem recurs. Now Honda has recommended we pay $700 to install new re-designed lock mechanisms ( we are out of warranty period). Honda has no official recall covering this problem for our van as this vehicle was not built during the Dec-Jan period covered by the door latch recall. But the problem is clearly affecting many many other vehicles: witness the many Honda service bulletins published on this issue. This is a safety problem caused by a manufacturer defect in either design or manufacturing. It is a safety problem because the door latches, if not replaced/repaired, leave the doors subject to opening while the vehicle is in motion. It should not be the owner's problem to fix by bringing the vehicle in repeatedly to clear computer error codes or pay $700 to replace the faulty latches. I ask that you request or order Honda to expand their door latch recall to correct this important safety problem. Thank you. John schlosser jss1@sgsi. Com.

34 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2004

The left automatic sliding door no longer closes all the way on its own (misses by about 1/32") and to keep the buzzer from sounding continuously, you have to "bump" the door closed with your hip. There is also a small, sharp point that is trying to work its way through this door from the inside, and it's getting worse. I took it to Honda and they said that they've seen this problem before and fixing it would cost approx. $700. I asked "if you've seen it before, how come there's not a recall on this problem?", and they said to talk to the manager (who wasn't there at the time), and he never returned my call. Anyway, I never got the repair done because it was too expensive. Then the next week my other door started buzzing continuously, even though it was closed all the way. The only way to stop that buzzing was to disable the door entirely (using the dashboard door switch). For some reason, that problem stopped all by itself about a week after it started, and hasn't come back. . . . But I'm still stuck with the door from hell on the other side. Since then, I've gone to other car complaint websites and seen just how common this problem is with Odyssey sliding doors, and that even when people get the problem fixed, it sometimes returns with the new installed equipment too -- requiring another fix for $700. Can't Honda just recall this model and fix the problem once and for all at Honda's expense, if it's so widespread?? I love my Odyssey, but this makes me think twice about getting another one (my very first Odyssey, a 1999 first-year model, had so many problems (including the same sharp point coming through the doors) that I brought it back to the dealer after a year and 1/2 and said they'd better swap me out with something better because I was fed up. That's how I got my "new improved" Odyssey.

35 Door Latch problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2004

The passenger sliding door would automatically open while driving. Intermittently the sliding doors would lock by themselves, and not open from either side. Also, the door ajar/open alarm remained on while driving, and both doors would be closed. Consumer would have to turn off the sliding door switch to turn off the alarm, which caused both doors not to open in case of an emergency. The vehicle is at the dealer.
