The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic advised the contact that the ignition switch would have to be replaced. There was a manufacturer recall for the ignition switch. The manufacturer advised the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Just bought vehicle today. Driving 70 mph on freeway, knee resting on bottom of steering column, suddenly vehicle dash goes blank, engine powers off, radio continues playing. I coast to nearest exit ramp, exit freeway, come to a full stop. Upon placing vehicle in park, I try to restart vehicle and it restarts without problems. Seems to be common and known problem with ignition switch.
