I was driving on a 4 lane highway and came to a intersection with traffic lights. In my lane and direction I was traveling, the traffic light turn red, which implies my vehicle to stop. I stopped. When the traffic light turn green, which implies my vehicle to move forward, my vehicle would not pull forward. After a few minutes, the vehicle, with sounds and feel of transmission problems, slipping and at times not moving. I barely made it to a safe place , a near store parking lot, to get my vehicle out of danger of a busy highway intersection. I had to be towed to a friend's home some 40 miles from the vehicle occurring problem of not operating in a safe manner. The vehicle has not ran since. If you put in reverse or drive, the vehicle will not move period. The vehicle is and has remained in my yard at my resident.
I was driving down the road normal and the next moment my foot was on the gas as normal and the engine began to rev without propelling my vehicle any farther. I slowed down and then coasted to the side of the road. I experimented once I was safely off the road and attempted to re engage the transmission. It let me go for another few miles then I was able to make it home. The next day I started to drive it to my mechanics shop and on the way it stopped and would not go anywhere. I was only about a mile and a half from my home. Fittingly enough I had to park it in the parking lot of a business. That business was a funeral home. All this took place on a city street where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour. When I attempted to take it to my mechanic the next morning, I was being followed by a CO-worker who was going to give me a ride after I dropped it off. To be more specific about exactly what happened, I was just driving along and all of a sudden the engine erupted revving and as I took my foot off the gas it slowed obviously but the second I pressed on the pedal again it was rev with no motion. Now I have a van with a new timing belt, new rear brake light (I put in myself) and new rotors and brakes and wheels. What a shame the public wasn't protected from this better. Should be a mandatory recall on all these transmissions and be made right. My mechanic cant even find one for less than $1500 which is insane. He had a quote for $2400 and I only paid $3700 for the van in June of 2014. The root of the problem was the transmission with out doubt.
It will shift hard in all gears. Sometimes won't start, won't move with the transmission shifting issues. If you get in the highway it does it. If you are at low speeds it does it. It's scary when it does it. And dangerous when it happens.
I have 115,000 miles on this van and the transmission went out and I seen that this happened to a lot of these vans I am very disappointed .
Driver able to shut off ignition and remove key while transmission gear selector still in drive. My teen drivers that are learning to drive have done this numerous times, even after I have pointed it out to them. The vehicle safety interlocks should prevent this scenario but in this vehicle, the safety feature has failed.
The ignition key can be removed from the ignition with the gear selector still in drive. My teenage drivers have on several occasions left the van in the driveway with the van still in drive, ignition off. Luckily, our home's driveway is flat and we have not had an issue of the van rolling away - yet!.
While I was driving the van on a hwy the rpms went up and the van would not go as if the transmission was totally gone. I got pulled off to the side of the road and had to call a wrecker service to come and pick us up. The van has been sitting for about a week. I got in it and it will go in a lower gear but only until the van warms up then it will not move at all. It cost me $200. To have it towed home and I was told by a transmission shop that it would cost me anywhere from $2500 to $4500 to fix the problem. That is more than the van is apparently worth. I have spent my christmas money on just the towing. I need help in getting it fixed I am a single mom with 2 small children. I did not have my children in the van with me but it was me and my ex mother in law and it was night and a mountainous hwy. If I had not gotten my van off to the side of the road there could have been a very bad accident as there are a lot of cars and big rig trucks that drive on that road.
On 4th of July 2014 - (invoice of $4000 on independence day) - was driving from family wedding events and suddenly feeling drive shift and slipping gears issue. I had to slow down to avoid accidents from this Honda's faulty transmission it is major safety issue can lock up front wheels on highway and can create major accident. . . Now need to do replacement/rebuit of power train (transmission) to fix following issue " flared 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, long park to reverse or park to drive engagement times, or in extreme cases no takeoff in forward or reverse after start up. " also engine light and tcs lights stay on. . . Because of Honda's faulty power train I got to come up with $4000-$4500 to make my family and other people on road safe. . .
On the evening of Sunday, may 25, 2014, I was driving on a freeway with my young son going approximately 55mph. As I began to ascend a slight hill onto a bridge, the tcs and check engine lights both illuminated. As I pressed on the gas pedal to accelerate up the hill, the rpms shot up but the car would not propel forward. I managed to make it over the bridge going the speed limit. After I began the descent down, the car would not accelerate whatsoever. I then coasted down to a stop in a fast food restaurant parking lot. My car was later towed and seen at a repair shop. I was informed that my entire transmission would need to be replaced. Prior to the incident on the bridge, there were no signs or warnings leading up to the failure of the transmission. What's more is approximately 8 years ago, the same issue happened with the vehicle (on a freeway, although not at an incline). The transmission needed to be replaced that time as well.
I have a Honda Odyssey - 92000 miles - when the transmission issues started. Check engine and tcs lights came on and d4 light blinking. Called Honda and was told that the car was outside the warranty period, but within the 100,000 miles. Honda had recalled this model and extended the warranty to 7 years, which means they did put faulty transmissions in these models. But now they are not honoring their warranty. Why limit the warranty by time. There are many families that do not use the car to do 100,000 miles in 7 years. Transmissions issues are based on use so why limit the warranty to time of 7-years. It should be limited by mileage. Very disappointed by Honda.
The contact owns a 2001 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle jerked abnormally. The contact mentioned that the tcs and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
I bought this car with 82082 mileage on it, and now the mileage is 82867, check engine light is on, went to the mechanic, they pulled out p0740 issue, which according to them is a transmission issue, according to the reviews found online it is a known issue with Honda odessey 1999-2004 model. If this is a known issue Honda should either recall all those model or fix the problem, otherwise customer like me would get ripped off.
Ongoing problems with sliding door, seat belt and electrical issues. At 160k replaced transmission for $5000. Not happy at all.
Shifting irregular and at improper rpms.
The transmission stopped working so the van stopped moving. Any pressure on the gas paddle was like revving in neutral. After stopping the van for about a min and restarting, was able to engage the drive but it would fail after moving about 50 yards. Some research on the internet shows this seems to be a common problem with these models. The transmission on this vehicle was replaced a few years back.
Driving to school about 25 mph, the tsc light and check engine light came on and p4 transmission light started to flash. The transmission would not shift into a higher gear. I tried to limp it back home and the transmission would not go forward. I had to drive in reverse one block to get it home. I plugged in my engine scan tool and it was reading a p0730 code. I called my mechanic and discussed it with him. His database indicates major transmission problems with Odysseys and that the resolution to this problem is a new transmission.
The transmission has started to slip real bad when it shifts from first to second gear.
Transmission slams into gear and the d4 flashes and the tcs light and engine light are on constantly- was told we needed a new transmission. Did research on it and called Honda and they said that there are no recalls on this but it had an extended warranty that ended before I purchased it- as I am 2nd owner of vehichle. All other maintenance has been done on time or early I had it a year before the transmission started to do this. The Honda dealer tried to talk me into trading it in for a newer model for less payments than I was making on but I own it out right bought from them! they knew something was wrong with transmission and keep selling them!!!!.
We were driving from indiana to florida. About 100 miles from our destination the check engine and tcs warning lights came on. The transmission shifted erratically at low speeds and the engine revved highly between gears at low speeds. We took the vehicle to the Honda dealer and were told we needed a new transmission at a cost of more than $5,000.
Started getting check engine light. Went to dealer and the diagnostic came with a transmission problem. Honda has a recall on the transmission issue as it seems like a known problem but they refuse to accept the fact that my vehicle would be part of the recall and have refused any financial assistance. The cost is approximately $5328.
Check engine light came on, and I find out I need a new transmission. I've done the regular maintenance while I have owned this vehicle, so this is very disappointing to say the least. I was told Hondas last a long time - not true.
After 137,000k the transmission in my Odyssey went bad. I put a rebuilt 2001 transmission in it, and guess what? you got it! that one went bad after 300 mi. I got zero help from Honda America and as I'm sure you know, as I do now, this is a very common defect in the '99-01 trans. Not that I'm expecting anything from this, but just another brick in the wall. I will never buy anything Honda again. Buy american.
Second transmission needs replacment. First one replaced in 2006 at approx. 44,000 miles by dealer. Confirmed that this transmission needs to be replaced as well. Car only worth $5,000 to $6,000; new transmission costs $5,000 (as per dealer). Called Honda, they will not contribute. (they did pay for 2006 replacement).
The contact owns a 2001 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the cruise control disengaged and the vehicle speed suddenly decreases without any warnings. The contact mentioned that she was unable to continue driving. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 163,000.
Transmission had been jerking when shifting around 5-15 mph. Then about 3 months later it just wouldn't shift at all after about 5 mph.
Transmission was replaced at 75k miles by Honda, lasted 36k miles and failed again. Replaced at 145k miles and failed again after less than one year.
While highway driving, the engine light came on. Lowered driving speed and continued driving to destination. Took van into a foreign auto repair shop. After checking the van using computer, I was told that there was a problem with the transmission. I would be able to travel home and encouraged to have the transmission looked at as soon as I returned. . Returned the van to Honda dealer and was told that the repair/replacement of transmission would cost $6,000. Took van to an independent repair shop for transmission overhaul cost; $ 2,250.
No crash. Engine light came on. Local mechanic diagnosed transmission, said there had been a recall or warranty extension. Local Honda dealer refused to do anything (as the car was past the warranty extension) except lower cost of replacement by about 20% (from $5400 to $4500). Had current transmission repaired by another firm, cost $2900. We had never received notice of warranty extension. Car had been brought to dealer for timing belt replacement during period of warranty extension (July 2009); dealer "neglected" to inform me of problem, notwithstanding entry of VIN into their database. The terms of the class action suit require notification. Mailing a notice is a good start, but if a car affected comes in, the dealer has a responsibility to notify the owner. We never received notice by the mail. This was not done, and I think it's criminal. I spoke with a representative of Honda America, who could not have been less interested in my situation, and offered me nothing. I'm sending an account of this to lisa madigan, attorney general of IL. I will not buy another Honda.
While driving down a main street at approximately 45 mph, the engine revved up and the car felt like it had stalled, but with the engine running. . . I was able to continue for a short distance at increasingly slower speeds. Once at the traffic light, I cut the car off and back on, it helped me to move forward up to about 30 mph for about 2 minutes, turned on and off at every chance until I was able to make it back into my neighborhood, than I tried to cut off and see if reverse would work and it did nothing, I cut off one last time and back on and was able to finally pull the car into the driveway.
While driving on the belt parkway in brooklyn, new york, suddenly the car started to be less responsive and became very slow. A minute later, I got check engine light on. I got off the nearest exit after being very nervous and scared by the slow speed of the car. I stopped by the nearest service station. I did computer diagnosis and turned to be transmission problem (codes: p0730, p0740). Now my car is at the shop for the second day getting the transmission rebuilt.
Transmission blew without warning on remote stretch of arizona highway where there isn't even cell phone coverage. This is the second transmission this car has had. It is a minivan and does not tow or even have a tow hitch. A transmission should last longer than this, either one of them, and not leave me and my family stranded this way. We do all the regular transmission maintenance. Even Honda admits it's just a problem for this part, but they don't care to do anything about it.
We were going from nyc to nc and the engine started racing but the vehicle was not going anywhere. . . We started seeing smoke in the rear view and started smelling transmission fluid. . . We pulled off and was able to continue going to the destination but could go no further after that. . We had to get a rental back home and the car is still in nc. . . And this is the rebuilt transmission that the dealer install after the recall. . . .
The Honda Odyssey & prelude transmissions have experienced many early (and late) failures due to higher than normal problems due to defects in material or workmanship. (higher than normal defects due to workmanship in material. . . Are exactly the words used in the warranty extension noticed I received a few years ago. The warranty was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles however many customers like me are conservative drivers, not pushing their vehicles to extremes, so failures often occur after the extended warranty. I called Honda to ask for assistance (discount or whatever) however they have declined. Case numbers [xxx] & [xxx]. I would like to file a complaint and ask for assistance getting Honda to own up to the issue beyond a simple warranty extension and assist with repair expenses at a Honda dealership. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Error code po74q transmission stopped working while driving on highway transmission fluid sprayed all over engine, lots of smoke but no fire.
I purchased our 2001 Odyssey van in November of 2000. I used the van only in the city with low mileage about 83,300 miles. Recently, I had my check engine light go on, and sometimes the tcs light to go on and d4 light flashing. I felt the van was slipping in/out of gear and not under control. I had my local mechanic checked the van and told me that is the problem with the transmissions and probably need a whole new transmission. After researching Honda complaints for 2001 Odysseys there is definitely a design problem with transmissions.
