4 Door problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

For the second time, the passenger side power door on our car opened while we were driving. The doors are very troublesome, refusing to close, shutting on passengers and emit a loud beeping noise when not able to latch. No matter what we do, we cannot get the noise to stop and have to put the door in manual to get the noise to stop. After the first time the door opened, I took it to the dealer who said the mechanisms were fine and it was probably a string. Yesterday it opened about 5 inches when I had a child in that seat. The dealer told us today there is nothing they can do unless they can recreate it. Honda told us to make sure the kids wear seat belts. An online search proved our situation is not unique. We are shopping for a new car, but are astonished at the lack of care Honda has about the safety of their clients.

5 Door problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2014

Hi I purchased used Honda Odyssey touring 2005 and driving the same present meter reading is 160k. I did not get any service records of the vehicle from previous owners and could not know whether these problems exists previously also. One day left sliding door of the touring could not open manually and auto also. After a week a time it started opening it self. Later I found the front passenger door and tail gate door or back trunk door are locked and can not open with electrical switches and also can not open manually also. It is serious safety issue not able to open manually also in case any accident which may take life of person not able to come out of the van. I would like to complain about this feature in this vehicle and I did not approach the Honda company about this problem. Please suggest me to take further action.

6 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

During cold weather, the automatic rear passengers doors failed to close and lock properly, allowing the doors to open. This only seems to happen when the temperature gets below 32 degrees. Problem is the van is kept in garage where it is warm, but when out of the garage (away from home) and this happens, no way to safely get home with the doors not closed properly, especially with children in the back.

7 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2012

The driver side rear sliding door stuck closed. Son could not get out. Panicked state because he went back to get something from van and closed the door while he looked for it. Could not get out as door was stuck. He tried to open several times, but no use. Door will not open manually or automatically. This could have been a bigger problem if it were summer here in phoenix arizona as the temperature could have been 115 degrees or higher outside making the temperature at least 20-30 degrees hotter inside. Luckily the outside temperature was in the 80's in the phoenix area today. We visit our relatives in arizona at least once every year and cannot afford to have door issues on our almost 3,000 mile round trip. We have 2 children and for safety reasons cannot have our doors fail to close or open properly for any reason, at any time!.

12 Door problem

The driver side rear sliding door on my 2005 Honda Odyssey opened while I was driving down the road at 55 mph. If this is not a safety issue, I don't know what is!!!!!!.

13 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

Left (driver's side) sliding door on Honda Odyssey will not close or lock. Had to drive to the dealer with the door constantly opening and my children inside the car. My friend sat on the back seat to try to keep the door closed. I do think this is a safety issue since this happened out of the blue without any warning at all. The dealer said that "Honda does not see it as a safety issue". I see the door property closing as a safety issue since it is a family car with children involved. I see it as a safety issue just like I see seat belts as a safety issue. I think there is something wrong with this problem, it is unsafe.

15 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2010

We were driving in our 2005 Honda Odyssey, and noticed something knocking. It also sounded like someone had their window down. We pulled over to look at the vehicle. Our newborn started to cry, so my husband went to open the driver's side sliding door. Upon pulley the handle, the whole door fell back off the van. We were told the plastic rollers were defective. They cracked when we hit a pot hole and let the door slide off the track. Then the pins that are supposed to stop the door from going off the track failed. Honda said it's not covered under warranty, and they have not received enough complaints to warrant looking into the safety of this vehicle.

16 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2009

17 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2009

2005 Honda Odyssey side door. When pressing the button to close the door automatically, it begins to close and then opens right back up and close again. This door has closed on my children and squishes them quite a bit before it retracts.

The sliding doors were open for a brief moment before closing on their own causing a shoulder injury. The failure occurred on two previous occasions. 19 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2008

We've had the left side sliding door on our 2005 Honda Odyssey fail to close numerous times over the past 3 years. The dealer has 'fixed' it at least four times in the past three years. Most recently, while returning from a trip to florida, the door failed to close at a rest stop. In attempting to close the door manually, the 'sliding spring' broke and the door slipped off the track. We had to lift the door and slide it shut. When the spring broke, the weight of the door caused the sliding track to be dented outward. Our fear is that the door can slide off the track and fall at any time since there's nothing to hold it in. We feel that this is a serious safety issue that should not be happening to any car much less a 3 year old vehicle. We contacted both Honda and the dealer. We're being charged $95. 00 for the dealer to diagnose the problem and may be charged the full cost of repairing the door. The dealer has indicated that in order to properly diagnose the problem, the door must be removed completely. This is a major repair that can run into several hundred dollars. Neither Honda or the dealer is offering to cover the cost of the repairs at this point despite their record of repeated repairs to this vehicle for the same problem.

20 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

2005 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states problems with door alarm the consumer stated the alarm sounded on two separate occasions. In both instances, there was no light on the display dashboard and the door was physically opened with wind noise. The first repair was not a success as the problem continued. When the consumer returned to the dealer a month later, it appeared the problem was fixed. The consumer stated three years later, the problem resurfaced again. While driving down the highway, the alarm began to sound with no dashboard display . When the consumer turned the steering wheel to the right, the door opened and the door display illuminated. The consumer had to manually close the door and lock it leaving the master switch off.

21 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2008

My 3 year old son sits in a booster seat, driver's side, in the 2nd row seats of our 05 Odyssey ex-l. This model has electric sliding doors on both sides. My son routinely opens and closes the door by pulling the handle after asking permission. On this occasion, he was seated in his seat and buckled in when he started the door closing. About 10 seconds later, as the door was completing it's latching, he started screaming at the top of his lungs. His left hand was caught at the back edge of the door between the weatherstrip and the door itself. I had to open the door with the dash mounted button to release his hand. Upon examination by his mother and me, one of his fingers was scratched a bit and they hurt, but no indications of more serious injury, thanks to god. I've always been a bit concerned about the front of the door catching or pinching someone, but never really thought about the back of the door as it pulls in to latch. Upon testing myself after this, it actually takes a fair amount of force back there to make the door reverse. A child's' fingers will be no match for it. I think Honda (and probably others) needs to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of automatic doors on minivans.
