The support struts for the tailgate failed. The door came crashing down on mother and daughter. Mother pushed daughter out of way but the door caught the mother on the right arm. Upper arm received a deep bruise 1 inch in diameter. The door worked well prior to this. There had been no warning like slow to lift or hard to lift open (or to close).
2005 Honda Odyssey ex tailgate strut failed, causing tailgate to drop suddenly. The dropping tailgate would likely injure a smaller person.
Tail gate failure Honda Odyssey 2005 lx model. The tail gate struts have failed and will not hold open the tailgate door. It takes two people to access the trunk now. I called Honda to see if they could help with the issue and because it is not under the VIN recall for the touring models that I am out of luck. Seems like the same problem on the same year of van should also be covered. Rather than waiting for serious injury to happen.
2005 Honda Odyssey tailgate failure - while my wife was unloading some groceries with the tailgate open, she heard this beeping sound (from the tailgate) and the tailgate began closing. She did not suffer any significant injury aside from freaking out while trying to get out of the way. Now, the tailgate does not stay open.
Failure of tailgate stay assembly.
I opened up the trunk gate of my 2005 Honda Odyssey to remove some items, as I was backing away from the van, the tail gate strut suddenly looses pressure and drops down. Honda Odyssey tailgate strut failure. I went to Honda to purchase replacements parts, and kept the orig ones as proof. Now the replacement parts is starting to have problems, it did not completely failed, but it does not have enough pressure to hold up the trunk gate and keep it open. I did receive a bump on the head, since I was not very close to the car, but the situation could have been much worst.
Tailgate closed unexpectedly while I was standing underneath while loading groceries. 1. ) there was no warning that this was going to happen. Until this point the tailgate had functioned normally in the manual or automatic open/close mode. 2. ) after the tailgate fell it never worked again until I made repairs to the hold open strut. 3. ) I checked the struts and found that the drivers side strut had failed. The strut had no pressure left inside to push out the rod that holds the tailgate open. The passenger side strut was ok and I did not replace this. I purchased a replacement strut from my Honda dealer. When I called to see if a part was in stock the person in the parts department asked me if the vehicle was a "touring model", which it is.
