1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

I bought the 2005 Odyssey van in 12/2015. It now has 192,426 miles on it. Three or four times every year since I bought it, the engine will suddenly surge when coming to a stop sign or light, with my right foot on the brake pedal, braking and slowing the van for the stop sign or light. The engine revs to about 5000 or 6000 rpms. It is as if the engine is flooring the gas pedal. Every time, I have been able to push the brake pedal down hard, even though the car continues to slowly roll forward, and shove it into neutral. I have to then tap the gas pedal to stop the engine accelerating. It then goes back to idling normally. Note, it even happened to me one time when I put it into reverse while parking! so very scary each and every time it happens. On 2/2/2017, I took the van to don jacobs Honda dealership, lexington, ky. They said there were no reports of this ever happening to anyone else. They charged me $3216. 06, with most of the cost for a new timing belt/water pump and a valve adjustment. When their repairs did not solve the problem, I called them. They said they would like to put a monitor on the van and drive it until the surge happened again. I told them to let me drive the van with the monitor, as the next surge might not happen for several months, and I needed to drive the van on a daily basis for work. They said they weren't allowed to let customers use the monitor! I finally had time today to research the surging problem. . Read more...

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

Our 2005 Honda Odyssey vibrates, especially around 35-45 mph. Honda told us that the engine mounts have broken and that is what is causing it. They are not a cheap fix. Engine mounts, the last thing that you would think would go out on a vehicle! yet, when you go online, this apparently seems to be a massive problem with these vans. Honda has a problem with their engine mounts braking and this seems to be ok with them. This is not ok. They need to take responsibility for this failure. We have already been through having to replace many other failures from Honda throughout the years, including replacing the fuel cap before they recalled it. We will no longer be purchasing Honda vehicles.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Dealer said 2 engine mounts bad. The front one, is over $500 just for the part. Two issues: how was it determined this part was bad and with such a significant price for one of them (there are two on this model), I take issue with the obviously flawed design. I am seriously considering legal action referencing both the above issues. My biggest concern is a fault design to drive service sales later in the life of the vehicle.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

The back motor mount needs to be replaced. I have low mileage in this vehicle and the engine shudders when it is in the eco setting.

Looked online this happened to allot of people at different number of miles, as little as 50k and different speeds (40-65)odyssey's 2005-2010. Design problem. May happen multiple times in life of van, car be expensive to fix each time. I bought this van used with 145k expected some problem. 22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2014

My 2005 Honda Odyssey ex-l has only about 66,000 miles on it and a Honda dealership said that one of the engine mounts has broken when I brought my car in for a Honda's fuel pump safety recall service. I searched on the internet and found that there are thousands of Honda's owners that are experiencing the same issue with Honda vehicles manufactured between 2000 - 2012. The engine mounts on Honda vehicles, especially the Odyssey, break easily and this seems to be a design flaw that Honda has neglected to correct. Engine mounts should not break at about 50,000 miles. They should last even much longer than 100,000 miles. The cost of replacing the engine mount runs at approximately $1000/mount, which is very expensive. Please help look into this issue. Thank you.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Torque converter going in the transmission. I see that there are numerous complaints about this issue and that Honda has been aware of this and has done a service bulletin but no recall. This has been going on for over a year.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

The transmission on my 2005 Honda Odyssey has to replaced and Honda is claiming that is normal for a transmission to go at 100000 miles. The car drives fine for short distances but then after long distances it goes 5 miles an hour and revs really high. It was towed to Honda where they told me nothing was wrong. I asked them to drain the fluid and replace it. They did that then drove it around and drained it again and it was dirty and burning. They are putting in a refurbished transmission with an extended warranty. I feel that with a Honda the transmission should last a lot longer and think this is a Honda issue.

Dealer said that the front engine mounts were cracked and needed to be replaced. Side engine mounts are also failing.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Replaced front engine mount on March 2014, now (oct 2014) car is due for rear mount at 102,500 miles. Honda Odyssey vibration caused by failed rear engine mount dangerous at high speed. There should be a safety recall on this, affecting to thousands of Odyssey owners. What are we waiting for?.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

My wife had a doctor's appointment and was waiting in the office. She has parked the car in parking lot. After sometime all of a sudden car's alarm went off. All from doctor's office rushed out to parking lot to see what happened. She noticed some smoke coming out under the hood. And within seconds car caught fire and burnt. Whole front of the car burnt completely. Insurance company has called it a total loss. I'm still puzzled to figure it out why this has happened. Car was parked and engine was off. Car was maintained as per the Honda's guidelines. There were no problems or warning signs what so ever. It was running perfectly fine. Had only 76000 miles on it. And strongly believe many years of driving left in it. We were pleased with the performance of it over the years. I'd ask nhsta to look in to the incidence and have Honda contact me and reimburse for our loss which is not at all our fault.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

We were driving along 101 in the afternoon, turned on the ac, it started to blow out hot air, really hot air. Have a mechanic checked on it, we were told that the condenser broke, a/c defects. Found lots of Honda owners have the problem.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Where do I start. . . . Original owner, purchased brand new. No problems for about 3-4 years, and then: transmission whine, took in to dealer off and on for several years, could never identify issue, they said. But as soon as the drivetrain warranty expired, miraculously, they identified it, and now say I need a new transmission. Motor mounts found to have cracked; problem is very common per internet forums, but Honda dealership denies responsibility for poor design/faulty mounts. Door for second row has issues sliding; another common problem per internet but not per dealer. And finally, the struts for the rear hatch broke, almost injuring my son very badly when he was putting his bike in the back. Took the car to the dealer and asked about a recall and they said no. I paid $300 4 months ago, and just now found that there was a recall 3 years ago, and they denied it!!!!! I hate Honda and will never buy their cars, and do not trust the dealership. Ughhh!!!!.
