36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

Power steering does not work well at low speeds (I. E. Parking and turning corners). Vehicle is hard to turn and could result in crash. Also, rear motor has failed, which could result in undesirable shifting of transmission.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Transmission trouble happens when first started in the morning. Has shifting problems at every speed. Will never go into top gear until vehicle has warmed up, is turned off, and turned back on. Then shifts normally. Replacing with new ecm (engine control module) did not fix. Was told to replace the mounts too, did not fix either.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

After take off from a red light vehicle started to shake and vibrate uncontrollably which caused me to quickly apply the brake and pull off the road. Took it to a reputable mechanic who discovered that rear mounts are bad an estimated $1200 repair. Honda really should recall for this I shouldn't have to shove out money for something that after research I found to be a highly reported problem on these model years.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal vibration coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the motor mounts failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

Motor mounts failed. That should not happen with an 8 year old car. Van shook bad enough where I had to pull over because I thought I had a flat tire or something. I didn't panic but it scared me enough where I could see somebody having a accident because of it. Honda wants $1300 to replace, that's not right. Should be a recall.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

We took our van in for servicing and complained to the Honda service representative that we have been experiencing vehicle vibrations that became worse during regular highway speeds when the variable cylinder management (vcm) system shifted from 6 to 4 cylinders and back again. We also started experiencing a distinct "clunk" sound during our vacation trip in late June. The Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and discovered that three motor mounts ("front, rear and side motor mounts") had failed and needed replacing. The repairs were made, as well as an oil/filter change, and vehicle multi-point inspection. The subtotal cost for just the motor mount replacement parts and labor was $987. 13. We discovered searching on the internet that this type of problem, especially with the rear motor, has been reported numerous times by other 2005, 2006, & 2007 Honda Odyssey exl & touring model owners. We are now seeking "goodwill consideration" for all, or most of the motor mount replacement cost, since learning that the Odyssey hasn't been recalled for checks since the 1 December 2006 service bulliten 06-083.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

I am very disappointed with my Honda Odyssey. We have always had Honda cars and have found them to be reliable until now. After reading all of the recalls on my personal vehicle, I can honestly say that 90% of the recalls or complaints have happened with my car as well. Most frustrating is the engine motor mounts. Brakes, tires, and vibration when reaching 60 miles per hour have always been an issue. After spending lots of money on these issues over the years, it seems that two broken engine motor mounts as well as one more cracked one could be the reason. My car doesn't seem safe and I can't believe that Honda will not listen to the complaints of their customers. The more I talk with others, the more I realize how big of a problem this is. I hope that someone decides to take this issue further. It is a shame that a car manufacturer can not own up to something that is clearly their fault like inadequate engine mounts. We will be looking for another car, since mine now needs brakes and rotors again, tires again, and pricey engine mounts that ordinary people can't afford. From a sad and disappointed previous Honda consumer.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

Brought the vehicle in for service due to a vibration. This was the 2nd time that I've brought it in for the same problem. Last time the dealer claimed it was an alignment / wheel balance issue. This time they have claimed that 2 of the 4 engine mounts are broken. They also said that this is a common occurrence for Honda Odyssey's. Research on various message boards and complaints on the NHTSA site do indicate that this happens frequently. If this is regular occurrence, why isn't this covered under a recall?.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

Engine mounts on the car broke and need replacement.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

I have very low mileage and the transmission seems to be going out. Also the rear main seal has blown. The mechanic says because of the transmission it affect the rear seal. I know Honda has had several issues with its transmissions and they have helped some people and not others. I filed a claim and was denied yet it seems there are issues that are the same as others that have been helped.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

Was told by the dealer that my front engine mount is torn and needs to be replaced. After reading some information online, apparently, this is a known problem with Honda Odysseys (even low mileage vehicles). I was wondering why there has not been a recalled issued for Honda Odyssey.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

One owner of a 2005 Honda Odyssey. Vehicle used to drive back and forth to work, general errands, occasional drive out of town. Within the past couple of months, my wife noticed severe shaking of steering wheel when accelerating at 65 mph. Vehicle taken to shop, had vehicle inspected: usual tire rotation, alignment, balancing performed; however problem persisted, and replaced two new tires. Took vehicle back to same shop, alignment and balancing re-done; however, problem persisted. Took vehicle to different shop--purchased 4 new tires, and had alignment and balancing performed once again; however, problem persisted. Had tires replaced and alignment and balancing performed yet again; however, problem persists. Advised by shop manager that he is 95% sure based on driving test that motor mounts are in need of replacement. It is my opinion that the motor mounts are prematurely failing, and thus deemed to be faulty, and that they should be replaced by Honda a their expense. Too many other Honda Odyssey owners with same issue, and expensive repairs.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

Had to replace 3 engine mounts in 2 months after 80,000 miles - van is used for suburban driving.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Today I took my car into the Honda dealership service department. I was told that my front and side engine mounts were broken. I was stunned because my minivan is only 8 years old bought brand new. I only drive the van under normal driving conditions to and from school activities for my kids. It seems to me a substantial car part such as the engine mounts should not be breaking at 87,000 miles. Subsequently, I have talked to a few friends that have had a similar problem with their Odyssey and I searched this problem online and discovered a large number of car forums noting they had similar engine mount problems with their Honda Odysseys that were under 100,000 miles. It seems to me there must be some sort of defect or poor quality control of these engine mounts. I am formally registering a complaint over the quality of the engine mounts. Thank you.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2012

Broken motor mounts, it seems to be a widespread and an expensive problem.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2012

Had our 05 Odyssey ex-l in for standard servicing and was told rear and passenger side motor mounts required replacing (at a cost of $1200+)! van experiences noticeable noise and vibration as is shifts in and out of the eco phase of engine operation. I have never owned a vehicle that required motor mount replacement and after research, a service bulletin was apparently issued back in 2006 on this issue. This appears to be a widespread issue on the 2005 time frame Odysseys. This is clearly an engineering issue and should be addressed thru Honda via recall!.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2012

Broken engine mount, right rear. Took car in for torque converter recall. Dealer did the software update and then advised that engine mount is broken.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2012

I was returning home and after driving on the freeway for approximately 45 minutes of driving at approximately 65 mph I heard a pop under the hood of my van and began to see smoke. I was unable to accelerate and had to turn on my hazard lights and pull off the freeway at the next exit. Upon taking my vehicle to my mechanic, I was told my transmission had failed.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Vehicle has been exhibiting a very harsh shaking/vibration while in eco mode. This is distracting as well as uncomfortable. Recently the vibration has gotten so bad, we can not see out of any of the mirrors as the shaking vibrates them to the point of complete uselessness. The worst part is that we just paid $2000 at a dealership to replace the rear motor mount and flush transmission again. We have had this van since 60k and serviced transmission four times now, replacing motor mount twice. This time, with no apparent effect.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2012

I own a 2005 Honda Odyssey ex-l. Had vehicle in the dealership today for virginia state vehicle inspection and the vehicle failed due to a broken front engine mount. Vehicle has 105,000 miles on it and is only 5,000 miles out of extended warranty. This appears to be common problem as seen from other posts on the internet . . . So much so that the dealer certainly was aware of it to find in less than a 5 minute look at the vehicle without a driveability complaint by me. Nhtsa should investigate this common safety failure mode for the Honda Odyssey. Costs to repair totaled $1002. 14 ($689. 64 parts and $312. 50 labor) to repair this safety issue found during state safety inspection.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

Our 2005 Honda Odyssey had just been serviced by the dealership and we were on our way home. We were at a stoplight when we noticed smoke coming from the engine. We quickly drove it a short distance away from anyone, jumped out and called the fire department. The engine compartment was completely burnt/destroyed and the vehicle was written off by the insurance company. A report was made to the dealership, as well as american Honda with accompanying investigative report and photographs. The cause of the fire was undetermined but originated in the engine compartment. .

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2012

I just took my car in for the master cylinder recall to the dealer. After inspecting the car the dealer has found and diagnosed a fail status on front engine and right engine mounts. The dealer is quoting approximately $700. 00 to replace these broken mounts. After doing an internet search on the issue with these cars, I find that this problem is prevalent in Honda Odyssey 2005 and greater models. Honda corporation should recall and repair these issue. I am surprised of how many recalls I have gotten on this Odyssey, I own other Honda's and love Honda quality. Please recall and fix this issue.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

Broken engine mount(s). General highway driving.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2012

Brought in my 2005 Odyssey for annual inspection in March 2012 and was informed that both front and rear engine mounts were broken. Honda dealership indicated this was a common occurrence with the v6 Honda vehicles, and is a safety issue. Odyssey was repaired at a cost of $830+tax. I researched on-line, and confirmed that it is indeed a common occurrence, as there were numerous postings with the same issue. I took the recommendation of the dealership and contacted the Honda corporation. Person who took the call assigned a case number, and indicated that I may be eligible for reimbursement. The person who followed up 1 week later indicated that this is normal wear and tear, and therefore Honda will not reimburse any amount. They indicated that the engine mounts are expected to wear out between 80 and 100k miles. I have owned several other vehicles, and none ever had this same issue. I believe this to be a design defect which Honda needs to take ownership for, and perform a recall for repairs.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey ex 3. 5l vtec with less than 46k miles on it. . . When I took to the dealership for 15k mile service today, they noticed that my front engine mount had broken and told me to get it replaced right away and they said it would cost me $500 (labor and parts). This has never happened to me on any of my other cars and I think this is a serious design flaw by Honda. When I searched online, I found several people with the same complaints and many of them had the rear and side mounts broken too which costs even more to fix. . . Honda needs to acknowledge this as an engineering design issue and recall the vans and get them fixed for free.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Motor mount!!!!! like many others it appears Honda has known about this issue and other than charging the customer for the excessively priced part to repair this issue that seems it may occur again after 50k. Seems like a racket to me. Our recent visit to the dealership didn't even need the service adviser to check out the problem. Apparently just mentioning vibration and they know that it's the motor mount. If Honda doesn't volunteer to recall this issue and NHTSA doesn't find just cause, I think perhaps a class action suit will remedy the situation.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Front and side motor mount. This will be second replacement of front mm. The first replacement was aprox. 500 miles and under warranty.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Engine mounts are bad and the engine shakes and vibrates. The bad mounts allow the engine to move and is a safety issue. Seems like a many Odysseys have this issue and is quite common to find on the internet.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Front and rear engine mounts are cracked. Dealer quoted me $1200 to fix. Outside car repair said about $900 but I can still drive it and it would not be considered dangerous. The problem is the Honda engine mount is double the price of other engine mounts and we cannot substitute with generic engine mounts! I even had my brother who is a part-time mechanic in another state check if he can get better prices for the Honda part . . . But nope. Of course if Honda does a re-call it would cost them $$$. Also, if they make an exception to one case, they will need to make an exception to others. I am so disappointed that Honda is turning their head to this problem. This is my 4th Honda but it may very well be my last.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact noticed an excessive vibration in the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician stated that the motor mount was fractured and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2011

As I was driving alone around 30 miles per hour my air condition was blowing cold air and all of a sudden out of no where it started blowing hot air and I thought I may need some freon, but since it was close to the end of summer last year I figured I could hold on until summer of this year. I finally took it in to have it recharged and was told that my air compressor was not working. There was no sign at all and I am wondering why all of a sudden it just stop working.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

When the car is about 45-50 mph the engine shutters. It feels like I'm driving over railroad tracks. The car also shutters when the eco light comes on. I've been told that the torque converter is failing and that it is a known failure in this model and year. Honda needs to do a recall on this because this is a defective transmission.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced by an authorized dealer for routine maintenance, he was informed that the motor mounts were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 108,000. The VIN was unavailable.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2011

1. Normal usage of our 05 Honda Odyssey. Transport for wife and two young children. In other words typical Mini van easy driving. Since last oil change around 90k miles notice seldom, random vibrations. 2. Honda service tells me rear motor mount has failed and will cause drive trane and stability issues if not fixed at a cost of about $900 per mount. Dealer tells me this is a common problem with the Odyssey yet Honda has not recalled or offered any assistance other than taking all my money. 3. Haven't corrected/replaced the faulty motor mount yet due to lack of funds and need to research this issue first. From what the dealer tells me and what I'm finding all over the internet this is a very wide spread problem with these failing Honda Odyssey motor mounts. Fearful for the safty of my family while driving this Odyssey should the other mounts and or drive trane malfunction as a result of these defective motor mounts.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2011

Odyssey had great vibration through steering wheel and through body of car. Vibration varied depending on speed. This could of caused a tragic accident. Diagnosis was failure of rear and side motor mounts for the second time in 20 months. Poor design of these mounts fail prematurely and cause vibration and handling errors which could have tragic consequences.
