Dear NHTSA advisor, thank you for regarding my request for warranty coverage for the critical misfire and overheating defect with my 2012 Odyssey Honda engine 3. 5l engine. Odyssey, as described in Honda’s service technical bulletin 13-081. I must reiterate the severity of my situation: the part required for repair is quoted at $7,500. 00—and that does not include labor. This amount far exceeds the current market value of my vehicle, effectively making it impossible to afford repairs without Honda’s intervention, it’s asafety defect & known manufacturer issue. The misfiring and overheating problems represent major safety risks for my family and anyone who operates the vehicle. This is not routine maintenance, but a substantial defect that Honda has addressed in its own technical bulletin. I have adhered diligently to Honda’s maintenance schedule throughout my ownership. Attached to this correspondence is a pdf containing the complete service technical bulletin 13-081. I am prepared to provide any additional documentation upon request. Failure Date: 04/07/2017

When I arrived at Honda of lisle (4475 Lincoln Ave, lisle, IL 60532) this morning for an oil change and recall service 16v-933, the service greeter told me that because I refused to provide an email address (presumably for marketing purposes), american Honda motor CO. , inc. Would no longer mail safety recall notices to me or make recall information available for my vehicle. When I protested, he agreed it was a terrible policy but said there was nothing that he or I could do about it. This is an unconscionable and life-threatening policy. Please do what you can to stop this action of american Honda motor CO. , inc. And keep owners of Honda products safe, no matter what their marketing preferences. Many thanks.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

Have had for a long time episodes of the doors locking for no reason both while the car was stationary and while any speed from streets to interstate. Honda re-programmed the locks, but did not fix the problem. Since it only happened about once every 2 weeks and they could not find another problem, I just let it go. The incident of concern happened in a parking lot. The sliding door closed on the hand of an elderly woman who was getting out of the front seat and we were unable to unlock it and get it off her hand or to slide her hand out of the door. The door was completely closed and flush with the rest of the car. After about 12 minutes as 911 was arriving, the door unlocked itself and they were able to open it. I had been using the buttons on the driver's dash, both front doors and the key fob with the car off and turned on and had pulled on the door handle and hammered on the door without success. When the door unlocked itself, I had once again tried the driver's door button with the car running and the response was delayed enough that I had gotten out of the car and was about at the driver's wheel when we heard the unlocking clunk. Can send photos of the location of her hand if it would be helpful. Thankfully only one finger was broken. Honda checked out the car and found nothing wrong with the sensors. They did say that I have a bad cell on my battery, but the car starts fine and I can't see how that would have anything to do with it. The weird locking of doors was happening at my last check-up where the battery tested out ok.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

At approximately 7:30 pm on Thursday, 09/12/2013, I was driving with my family on route 288 in chesterfield county, virginia, at approximately 65 mph. My wife and I heard glass breaking but we were unsure of the source. We heard it again and my wife (passenger seat) opened the sunroof cover and observed shattered glass. When we got home approximately 10 minutes later we took a photo. We did not observe a rock or foreign object in the shattered glass. This day was a hot day and as the sun was going down a cold front with thunderstorms dropped the temperature (but was not raining at the time of the incident).

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2013

Our 2012 Honda Odyssey touring elite van, purchased brand new in June, 2012, experienced a sudden unintended acceleration (sua) event on July 27, 2013 at approximately 3:53pm cst. I was making a right turn into a parking space with the brakes depressed. Part way into the parking space, my vehicle¿s engine revved up very loud and surged forward. I continued to press the brake as the vehicle continued to move forward rapidly and did not stop until it hit a store front window/wall. The steering also became unresponsive. The engine stopped revving and I shut off the engine with the key. No airbags deployed. My son was in a middle row seat. Video security surveillance shows the brake lights were on during the entire event and details the unresponsive steering. We contacted the dealership by phone immediately with a follow up letter and we contacted Honda America corporate office by certified letter and sent a fax informing them of the event, as well as requesting edr data be retrieved. It is now seven weeks later and Honda has failed to collect or refuses to provide the data. The dealership stated a district rep/manager inspected our vehicle and provided only an one page dealer invoice stating ¿no defects in material or factory workmanship were found. ¿ this ¿inspection¿ took 0. 79 hours per the dealer invoice. Honda refuses to provide details of what was inspected or checked and the dealership says they are not responsible for providing those details even though inspection took place at their facility. The dealership states that the dealer invoice is sufficient for us to consider the vehicle safe to put on the road again. Understandably, we do not agree as root cause of the sua event remains unidentified. The vehicle currently sits at the body shop. Vehicle had approximately 12,800 mi at event.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2013

My car started to vibrate a little driving on the freeway and down hill aroung 18,000 miles. I drove it and finally at 22,000 miles I took it to a Honda dealer to check it out. The service advisor told me that the rotors were warped and that I needed a break job. I feel that the rotors are either not the proper size or thickness for the car. I've checked on line and many same car owners are seeing the same problems. I feel that the warrenty the should honor replacement or repair if the rotors are warping so quickly.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The front brake rotors are undersized and will warp with use causing vibration during braking. The homelink stays on even after the car is turned off with key removed causing thief to open your garage door when they break into the car and having access to homes because the homelink stays on constantly.
