My Odyssey began to shudder and misfire. Luckily, I was in a parking lot when it happened. It stopped running. Several attempts to restart were unsuccessful. Once when it did start, it was missing and would barely move. After about 15 minutes, I was able to get it started and get home (a little over 2 miles). I installed my code checker to find the problem. I initially had 22 codes - including p0301-p0306, p0300 and p0087. I waited a while and re-ran the test. The p0087 continued to show. I did not attempt to drive it anymore until the next day, when I took it to canady & branch (auto repair). They checked for codes and also had the p0087 code. They called and informed me of the issue and indicated that it involves the fuel pump. They also indicated that there were recalls for the Honda Odyssey for the fuel system:fuel pump. I contacted priority Honda to determine if this would be covered under a recall. I was told that the recall did not involve my Odyssey. I needed my vehicle, so I had canady & branch make the necessary repair ($874. 42 - the diagnostic was an additional $77). I spoke to Honda USA today and was informed that they do not cover 3rd party work and reiterated that my vehicle was not on the recall list. I was told that it had been on the list but was removed in March of 2024.
I own a 2018 Honda Odyssey elite. While driving to er for my daughter engine started making weird knocking sounds, when I stopped at a red light to turn left off the interstate Odyssey just died and began to smoke. My daughter and I were advised to get out of the vehicle for safety reasons, due to smoke. There was no warning lights or any other indication that the Odyssey had a problem. 911 was contacted fire and police responded, it was determined that engine reached max temperature. Odyssey was towed to Honda dealer for diagnostics, it was determined that connecting rod bearing was bad and long block needed to be replaced, starter also imploded and needed to be replaced. I contacted manufacturer to ask for a "goodwill repair" due to NHTSA campaign number 23v751000. Per manufacturer Honda would not offer any assistance for the engine repair even though recall matches exact part affected in the recall. All regular maintenance oil changes, 100,000 mile service, new tires, have been performed on the Odyssey. I can provide receipts and records. The failure mileage was 167,384.
My 2018 Odyssey has a problem of high pressure fuel pump malfunction. It is come to know that and it can cause stalling the vehicle while running and can cause accident. The same fuel system is shared by 2018 Honda pilot which had a recall. But manufacturer did not issue a recall notice for Odyssey's yet.
Was have recall my car fuel pump , I put the car in Honda dealership 9am them I back 3 pm watched my dash cam car park in parking lot no one worked on it them just did paper work when I told the manager the story he told me we did it 4 day ago on 11/07/2025 when you have diagnostic if you did it before why you give me another an appointment and broken my day then I back home take the seat out see the fuel pump it’s do dirty look no one work on it then the part number in the paper not the one in the pump.
While on a road trip our vehicle began to run louder, same shifting, same gas mileage but louder especially under acceleration. There was no warning and luckily we made it home only to find out it was the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay that was failing. We had the previous fuel pump recall completed but now at ~82,000 miles the hpfp goes out, these usually last much longer. Took to an independent shop who diagnosed and fixed problem resolved but said we could have easily been stranded or worse the hose with fuel that was violently pulsating in the engine bay could have come unattached and fuel could leak on the hot engine.
Tuesday, September 30 at 8:07 pm I was merging onto the interstate after work and my car would not accelerate properly to allow me to merge with the traffic. This happens way more than it should. Since I got this vehicle it has been doing this and scaring my entire family every time. It happens in car line. It happens when I am already driving with traffic on the interstate and when I try to pass a slow car my car will sometimes not accelerate due to the problematic recall issue that these 2018 9 speed Hondas are known for. It puts me in a very scary situation and I dont know what else to do about it.
High pressure fuel pump car had loss of power while on freeway car seemed sluggish prior to going out. The low pressure fuel pump was replaced as part of recall 1/2025.
The vehicle would not accelerate while merging onto interstate and it made a grinding sound. It hesitated for about 5 seconds and was able to finally pick up speed and merge. It is very scary when my vehicle does this.
The throttle can loose power at stop and then suddenly engine picks up the throttle which not normal and this is not maintenance issue as service station and Honda does not confirm the behavior a defect or a problem. This is very concerning.
I bought my van used in March of 2025. Within 6 weeks I noticed when accelerating my van hesitated about 3 seconds before going when I went to take-off. This has caused great concern . Last week it caused me a accident because of the delay in acceleration. Luckily I was not hurt but did cause a accident. I feel they're should be a recall to fix this after reading many complaints about the same issue.
I bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey new. When the recall for the fuel pump came out, I had it completed on the emergency basis because it said if you had been experiencing the engine cutting out, to call and get it completed soon. I had had issues with the engine cutting out. Recently, I noticed a loud engine rumbling and rough noise during idling and acceleration. I took it to a Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing high-pressure fuel pump that required immediate replacement. There were no warning lights. The most frustrating part is that so many other 2018 Odyssey owners are reporting the exact same issue. It’s all over forums and reddit — people with Odysseys from around this year are dealing with premature high-pressure fuel pump failures. This is clearly not an isolated case — it's a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge. While Honda recalled the low-pressure fuel pump, they’ve ignored the high-pressure pump — even though it presents serious drivability and safety concerns. I am being forced to pay $1,775 out-of-pocket at a Honda dealership to replace this failed part. I’m urging NHTSA to investigate this pattern and hold Honda accountable. This is not normal wear and tear — it’s a systemic failure that deserves a recall and reimbursement for affected owners.
I bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey ex-l with around 80,000 miles. Not long after, I noticed a loud engine vibration and rough noise during idling and acceleration. I took it to a Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing high-pressure fuel pump that required immediate replacement. There were no warning lights or messages — just a sudden failure. The most frustrating part is that so many other 2018 Odyssey owners are reporting the exact same issue. It’s all over forums and reddit — people with Odysseys from around this year are dealing with premature high-pressure fuel pump failures, often between 70,000–90,000 miles. This is clearly not an isolated case — it's a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge. While Honda recalled the low-pressure fuel pump, they’ve ignored the high-pressure pump — even though it presents serious drivability and safety concerns. I was forced to pay $1,273 out-of-pocket at a Honda dealership to replace this failed part. I’m urging NHTSA to investigate this pattern and hold Honda accountable. This is not normal wear and tear — it’s a systemic failure that deserves a recall and reimbursement for affected owners.
Fuel pump failed. Other Honda Odyssey's of same year had a fuel pump recall. This particular VIN was not included but failed in a similar manner. We were required to pay out of pocket to repair. Nhtsa recall number:23v-858.
My vehicle is having symptoms described in the recall (safety recall: 2018–23 Odyssey fuel pump motor - rcrit-23v858-259). Although my VIN number does not show eligible for this recall but I am having symptoms mentioned on this recall: 1. Difficulty starting car and its intermittent. 2. Car stalled at the red light, traffic stops few time putting at the risk of being rear ended. 3. Engine hesitate when driving and feel jerky moves or unable to pick speed as it should normally. 4. Check engine light shows up with all other functions disabled. 5. Local Honda dealer code scanner tool to check error code and they reported dtc p0087. When I searched this symptoms I came across this recall with same symptoms but my vehicle does not qualify based on VIN # search. I need to issue resolved as it puts my family at the risk of being in an accident while driving on roads for day to day activity.
I recently began hearing a strange noise when starting the engine of my 2018 Honda Odyssey elite. While driving, I also noticed reduced acceleration and a change in engine sound when pressing the accelerator, indicating a performance issue. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, where they diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning fuel pump and recommended a full replacement. I am aware that Honda has issued fuel pump recalls affecting a number of vehicles, including some 2018 Odyssey models. However, when I checked my VIN, it showed no active recalls. Despite experiencing the exact symptoms associated with the recalled fuel pumps, I am being asked to cover the full cost of replacement—approximately $1,700—including parts and labor. I believe this may be the same defect covered under the broader fuel pump recall and request that Honda reevaluate whether my vehicle should be included. I am requesting either coverage of the repair under warranty or a goodwill repair to address what appears to be a known issue.
Each time gas tank is filled completely, there is a strong fuel smell that lasts for a couple days. Recently vehicle was parked facing down an incline after a recent fill and gasoline smell became very strong and an oily (shiny rainbow) slick noted leaking from under where the vehicle was parked. I believe this indicates that there is damage to the fuel tank near the top of the tank. I have started filling the tank 2/3 only and do not have the gas smell with that. Have had the vehicle for about 10 months and noticed the smell the first time I filled with gas, but did not suspect it was caused by a leak until recently. There is an "emissions system" error on dash. No issues with vehicle performance / operation.
Stalling lagging on acceleration. Leaving me stranded in the middle of road or intersection. Honda dealership says they can duplicate the issue, but there is no fix.
1/16/25 van brought to Honda of kenosha to complete fuel pump recall. Advised work was complete. 3/30/25 while driving, my van completely turned off. Creating an unsafe situation as I wasn’t parked but with engine running & van in drive. Van was towed to repair shop 3/3/25. When they opened on 3/31/25, I contacted them to explain what happened. Mechanic said it sounded like a fuel issue. I explained van had new pump 1/2025 per recall. Van started for the mechanic, but it wasn’t a smooth start. He drove it on & off over the next 48 business hours. It didn’t stop. I picked it up on 4/2/25 & began to drive home. Again, while driving it completely turned off. Creating an unsafe situation as I wasn’t parked but with engine running & van in drive. 4/3/25 my van was returned to the repair shop. They ran diagnostics & replaced high pressure fuel pump. But the van was still not running correctly. Despite the fuel pump recently being replaced, the mechanic tested it anyway. He learned the fuel pump was not replaced as I was advised & as it was documented.
I took my 2018 Honda Odyssey to the dealership for a fuel pump recall repair. The next day, the engine warning light turned on, and I heard a loud abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump. I scheduled an immediate service appointment. The dealer charged me $230 for a diagnostic but claimed no fault or error code was found. They turned off the warning light without explaining why it was triggered. The abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump persisted, and the dealer recommended replacing the high-pressure fuel pump for $1,942. 78 while denying any connection to the recall repair. Component/system that failed: high-pressure fuel pump engine management system how was safety put at risk? a fuel system failure can cause engine stalling, leading to sudden loss of power while driving and an increased risk of a crash. Has the problem been confirmed by a dealer? yes. The dealership acknowledged an abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump but denied any connection to the recall. They only reported a dca-8000 code, which is not a standard fuel system error code. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer? yes. The dealership inspected the vehicle but refused to take responsibility. Honda corporate was also contacted, but they denied warranty coverage. Any warning lamps or symptoms before the failure? no prior issues before the recall repair. The engine warning light turned on the next day, and the abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump began immediately after. Why this needs to be investigated: the issue began right after the recall service, suggesting a possible defect. The dealer charged me $230 but failed to explain the warning light activation. If other vehicles experience this, it may indicate a recall defect. A fuel system failure can create serious safety risks for drivers and passengers. Nhtsa must investigate whether the recall service contributed to high-pressure fuel pump failures, as this could pose a significant safety hazard.
In several occasions there is a delay in acceleration. This typically is happening when I take off from a stop sign and turning, others I have literally been on highway merging and loss all acceleration al though I can hear rpm ramp up, there is no action till 10-15 seconds later. I am very lucky no was injured in that instance and could have been a terrible accident going 70+. I see this is an ongoing issue, and because it is not consistent in manner people fail to repair/research issue.
Emission error code which is part of recalls due to fuel pump and suddenly check egin light came on and vehicle couldn't shift from park mode to drive mode. We took the vehicle to dealer ship and they mentioned that transmission failure where vehicle just two weeks ago at the dealership for another repair and inspection report didn't specify anything about the transmission.
Did not control speed sometime up and down engine.
Up and down engine.
Did not control engine up and down fuel nt work.
Fuel pump went out on my Honda Odyssey causing my car to stall on a highway with my kids. It kept giving me issues the last few days before stalling with taking off. It was as if the car did not want to take off when stopped and when accelrating. I did report this to my local Honda dealer and although there is a recall regarding the fuel pumps and injectors dealing with my make and model my VIN number is unfor. Not included. I had to have my car towed to my local dealership on 12/18 which I am still waiting on repairs. When this happened all of my warning lights appeared.
The check engine light on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has been on since January 2024. We took it to the dealer (music city Honda - mt. Juliet, TN) and they claimed the 02 sensors were bad. We paid $500 to have these replaced, but the light came back on. We then received the recall for the fuel pump module. We have tried twice since may 2024 to get the part under recall replaced but have been told both times that the part is unavailable. The dealer claimed that we could bring it in but if the issue is not determined to be related to the recall, we will have the pay the diagnostic fee. Not only is my check engine light on (it says emissions system problem), but my car stalls while driving. This poses a significant safety risk for myself and my family, and Honda is refusing to do their part to remedy the issue at no cost.
Issue-1 high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some vins) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 nine speed model. Issue-2 major safety issue. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda ignores and is a disaster waiting to happen. Nhtsa should look into this and recall all Honda 2018 9 speeed Odysseys to fix this issue. It is been 6 years and Honda comfortably ignoring this safety hazard especially for a vehicle meant for kids.
When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds. . . Leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. I think it's the transmission but it could have to do with the fuel intake. . . It has been ongoing for months and months. The dealer has attempted to rectify but to not avail. . . . Very dangerous.
My 2018 Honda Odyssey van have had persistent acceleration hesitations after completed stops, especially during making left or right turns at street intersections since July 2022. This car normally hesitates for 2 to 3 seconds after accelation pedad is pressed before suddently jumps forward. Acceleration hesitation for few seconds, during making a turn, is very dangerous due to in coming cars in my opinion; as a result, we have tried to avoid using my Odyssey van as much as possible due to potential accidents when making a turn with this Honda van.
There are times especially when first starting the car that pressing the gas does not move the car from a stopped position. There is quite a delay and sometimes a need to turn the car off and back on for the car to move. This can be quite dangerous when stopped and then crossing lanes of traffic as it is unknown when this delay between pressing the gas pedal and the car actually moving may occur. This was reported to Honda service who advised it is normal for this car to have such a delay.
I have a 2018 Odyssey and have only had it for about 6 months. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is when I go to accelerate, the car does not go right away. I have to push down hard on the pedal and the tires spin, resulting in the van lurching then accelerating quickly. This has caused many moments of panic as I’ve gone to accelerate to pull into traffic or to drive across a main road and it’s stalled for a moment then lurches into accelerating. I’m a careful driver and have always used acceleration in moderation and try to ease into it. This van does not allow that. You will try to press down on the pedal to slowly accelerate with nothing happening, then it’s like it connects and plows forward. Tires spinning and all.
Vehicle stalls when pulling out into traffic! terrifying with my 6 kids and I'm immediately getting rid of this vehicle. Tried to have the fuel pump (current recall) replaced but Honda dealership has the vehicle for 6 days! and still didn't have the part in. Upon dropping the vehicle off the tailgate lift would not work properly. This van is a load of garbage since they started using so many modules to control it! extremely disappointed in Honda. They know all of these faulty parts and don't care enough to fix them for the safety of the consumer. Absolutely horrifying the direction of the automobile industry.
My 2018 Honda Odyssey stalls or hesitates when I go from a stop to accelerate. The vehicle will lose all power for 3-6 seconds and when the engine catches up to the pedal, the vehicle accelerates hard, spinning the tires and jerking the vehicle. I've had the vehicle inspected at my local Honda dealership and they've said the vehicle has no open recalls. This includes the fuel pump recall and the engine recall, neither recall has been issued for my vehicle. The results of the inspection was the technician explaining that "the vehicle just does that. " my vehicle has not produced any warning lamps for the engine. My vehicle has produced several warnings lamps and warning messages on the infotainment screen about the side doors being open. I've had several instances where the door will not close and or will not open properly.
High flow fuel pump failure. Discussed at length with Honda repair shop.
I have been experiencing engine hesitation issues with our Honda Odyssey for the last several months. We received a safety recall notice in the mail and have tried to address the issue with 2 different dealers. The 1st dealer told me that the safety issue "should not cause any symptoms and we can't get the part for you. " the second dealer told me to bring the car in for an appointment and they would address the issue and order the fuel pump for replacement. Several things happened during these visits to both martin and union Honda. Martin Honda would not address the safety recall. We were also having a "knocking" sound which they diagnosed as an issue with the right passenger strut. They told me that it needed to be replaced. Out of frustration with their customer service I decided to seek advice from our personal mechanic of 25 years. I have ordered struts for both the driver and passenger side which will be installed by our mechanic per their advice. Martin Honda never mentioned the driver's side strut. Union Honda said that they were going to charge me to "diagnose" whether or not the engine hesitation was coming from the fuel pump. They said it would take 2 days to diagnose. Within 2 hours I received a text stating that inspection of our car received the "green light. " everything passed and they did not notice the engine hesitation "while driving the vehicle. " how is it possible that they didn't notice the "failed - critical concern" of the right front strut and top hat/bearings while inspecting the car that was detected by martin Honda? when questioned the manager stated "well, he wasn't looking for that. We were focusing on the engine hesitation. " why was it marked as "passed" when just a week prior it was marked "failed. " they had no answer. I was told that the safety recall was not an issue with our vehicle and nothing can be done. However, I am still having engine hesitation. Doesn't the part have to be replaced regardless?!.
