36 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

Occasionally, when the driver presses the accelerator, the car hesitates for about 1-3 seconds before accelerating. This most commonly happens when starting up from a stop sign or red light and after letting off the accelerator to slow down temporarily and then pressing the accelerator to speed up. This has been happening for at least a year or two. I recently received a safety recall notice from Honda saying that if I were experiencing this symptom, I needed to contact a dealer to have it repaired for free (with "free" in bold, red, and underlined letters). However, when I called a dealer and later called Honda customer service, they both told me that I would need to pay a $170 fee to run a diagnostic check. Then, if the diagnostic check showed that my car was experiencing an issue related to the recall, I would be reimbursed the $170 fee. However, if the diagnostic check did not show that my car was experiencing the issue, I would not be reimbursed. Requiring me to risk $170 to run the diagnostic check is not repairing my vehicle for free - especially when I am experiencing symptoms described in the recall notice. I believe Honda and the dealer should be required to honor what they wrote in their letter and both run the diagnostic check and complete the repair at no charge to me.

37 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2024

Emission system error messages popping up and disappearing until the fuel injector completely malfunctions and check engine light flashes along with several other safety lights. Car’s engine will be destroyed with further use or possible spontaneous stall while driving. This VIN is not included in current Honda fuel injector recall but clearly should be. Honda please help get the recall extended to include other 2018-2020 Honda vehicles whose VIN isn’t included but still is dangerous to drive due to failing fuel injector.

38 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2024

I called Honda services when I received the recall letter from the mail and they kept on telling me that the parts has not come in yet, so call back later. So, I did do that I called back around 2-3 times and they kept on telling me the same thing that the parts have not come in yet and call back later and would not let me make an appointment. I called them the month of March and April and they still would not let me make an appointment.

39 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

See service Honda service bulletin 20-100 dated 2-11-2021. The fuel injectors part number 16010 (6ea) has failed and my dashboard display , displays most of the sensors that means there is an actual problem, or a false reading. As a Honda owner, I cannot determine if it is an actual fault or a false reading. I had rusty wallace Honda dealer check the car using obd device and the equipment indicates a code 219a, which indicates bad fuel injectors. Now after the check additional and different sensors are displayed with problems than were displayed prior to this check. The trouble shooting and after displaying the code 219a indicated a catastrophic failure. Rusty wallace has verbalized the results and that I should continue driving the vehicle, that this would not damage the engine or the car. I am not a certified mechanic, but my younger days were devoted to back street work repairing and driving vehicles. Anytime that you starve or flood a cyclinder you had serious problems. I need this vehicle as a daily driver.

40 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2024

At 60 mph, the fuel injectors failed on cylinder 1/2/3 (known issue based on TSB 18-025). The vehicle produced various error codes but did not go into limp mode. We proceeded to the nearest exit on the highway to safely pull off. The engine shortly after turned on limp mode as we neared the exit. We heard an audible ping noise and the engine power changed (could still keep the vehicle moving but shaking in the steering wheel). We were on a straight path of road so the steering wheel shaking was manageable. We had the vehicle towed to nearest Honda dealership and they completed the TSB putting in new injectors. The fault codes cleared on cylinder 1 & 2 but not 3. They performed compression test and assessed dead cylinder requiring new engine replacement. Technician also noted that #3 injector had locked open and spark plug was soaked with fuel from flooding the engine cylinder. I escalated to Honda corporate (case # 14464383) and they looked into the matter believing it wasn't that severe. After 1 month, they closed the claim at the regional manager level, with no earnest money, and said we were on our own for an engine with 74k miles since it was out of 60k warranty. I towed the car to my private certified mechanic (who had done all the oil changes since purchase at 34k miles). He checked with borescope and cylinder wasn't moving while crank turning. He has diagnosed broken piston rod and looking for used engine to try and replace. Honda asheboro quoted $6,400 for repair. We believe that #3 cylinder hydro-locked when ecu turned off injector and spark plug but couldn't closed the injector properfly (known debris in fuel system) causing the piston rod to break and luckily not drop the piston into the crankcase. Car is sitting idle waiting for repair or further review. Will be taking Honda corporate to small claims court in stanly county, nc. Other known issues for this model/year is fuel pump and piston bearings (both also TSB's and not recalls).

41 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2024

The van has been giving me issues with stalling jerking losing power while driving when I found there was a recall Honda told me I had to wait til srptember I dont have til September this is my only vehicle gid I hope it does not fail me or my kids.

42 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

The transmission is unreliable. You push the gas and it hesitates to accelerate or switch to the next gear to speed up. It can shake or rattle the car. Has a trouble at low speeds or shifting to the next gear to increase speed. This makes it dangerous to try to pull out into an intersection because the transmission or gear shifting doesn't always hit and you can get hit or injured. This transmission has been weird since the car was new.

43 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

See attached document.

44 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2024

My van has been stalling out constantly and not allowing me to power/move the car forward on several occasions. Most recently, my car has stalled out in two intersections, causing other cars to swerve/slam on the breaks and almost hit my car with my three young children in the car. I especially have trouble getting up any sort of hill. It is also a big problem when I have to stop my car for any amount of time (I. E. Stop signs, turning lanes, stop lights) and then try to power my car when it is my turn. The car almost always stalls and has almost caused several accidents.

45 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2024

I am having the problem with the Honda fuel injector system causing warning lights to go off. This has been a problem for 3 months and I’ve been told that there is a major supply issue. The problem has gotten so bad that my car keeps going into limp mode bc the transmission warning light is forced on. This is a safety issue.

46 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2024

The vehicle often hesitates to accelerate when pressing the fuel peddle. This mostly happens when backing out of a driveway and placing the gear into drive but also has happened after coming to a full stop and then pulling out. The hesitation lasts about 1-3 seconds and could lead to a collision if I decide to pull out in front of oncoming traffic and anticipate the car to accelerate rather fast. Often, during the hesitation the instinct is to press the gas pedal harder, in which case, when the vehicle does accelerate it will spin the tires, making forward progress even more frustration and dangerous. This happens with both drivers in the family, it is not isolated to just once person's style of driving. This becomes a safety issue if you expect to merge into traffic and the vehicle does not respond. We have adjusted our driving habits in this car to assume it will not accelerate when from a full stop. We have not had a shop verify the condition. No warning lights or messages appear. The car is not in eco mode. Doing a google search for the condition, it does not appear to isolated event.

47 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2023

Current recall on vehicle. Been on the waitlist since end of December 2023. Contacted local dealership multiple times and they are unable to get part in. The vehicle has been showing engine light more often. Struggles to start occasionally.

48 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

We are having the same issue as indicated on the service bulletin 20-100 but our VIN is not listed as covered by the manufacturer.

49 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2023

For over a year, my 2018 Honda Odyssey has intermittently hesitated when accelerating, particularly when pulling into intersections or merging into traffic. This hesitation creates a significant safety risk, as the vehicle momentarily fails to respond to acceleration, increasing the potential for collisions in situations where immediate response is necessary. The issue is consistent with symptoms outlined in Honda’s recall (NHTSA recall number: 23v-858) involving a malfunctioning fuel pump impeller. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer, who confirmed the issue but indicated that they lack the necessary parts to complete the repair. Despite repeated inquiries, the part remains unavailable, leaving the vehicle unsafe to operate and creating an ongoing safety concern. No warning lights or dashboard messages appear prior to or during the hesitation. The dealer has acknowledged the problem, but without parts, the recall remedy remains incomplete.

50 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

Car has acceleration issues when making left turns, merging onto freeway, or passing cars on freeway. Transmission and blind spot light went on and we took car to Honda dealer. They could not find anything wrong, no codes were stored and they were not able to duplicate the issue. Scanned vehicle and unable to trace root cause. Updated tcm software which helped for about a month but acceleration issues are now back again. This is a serious safety issue as the car hesitates to accelerate. We have kept up with all car maintenance.

51 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey has the defect described in this recall: TSB 21-010 however, the VIN search says that it is not eligible. This defect causes all of the vehicle's electronic safety systems to malfunction. Occasionally it will not start at all.

52 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

This vehicle (2018 Honda Odyssey) hesitates when acceleration is attempted after braking. This makes left turns in front of oncoming traffic particularly dangerous. The problem has been widely discussed on Honda/odyssey online forums. Honda apparently has not acknowledged the problem or warned owners about it. I just missed getting hit with a car full of kids due to acceleration hesitation.

53 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

The high pressure fuel pump is not working causing a noise like a motorcycle. Took to dealer they advised it is a safety issue. Could cause gas lines to blow out while driving. Part is saying it is discontinued and is on backorder. Honda dealer is the one who diagnosed the problem. No warning no check engine light.

54 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

Nhtsa recall number:23v-858 for fuel pump but they tell me not my VIN number. I had to replace this item last January 2023 for $1500. 00 I would like my money back. I have filed with Honda to escalate my issue. Https://hondanews. Com/en-us/Honda-corporate/releases/release-a463299e9046a088b84018a75800469c-statement-by-american-Honda-regarding-fuel-pump-recall-2017-2020-Acura-and-Honda-models ac has been working off and on for the past year. Runs warm. They are recommending replacing the compressor assembly with o rings, evac and recharge with dye. $2600. 00 never had to replace a compressor with the 05 06 08 09 10's in our family.

55 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

Our van regularly hesitates when to accelerate from a stop. Example, when turning right on red pushing the gas pedal will provide some speed to get into the roadway, then it becomes unresponsive. Letting up and pushing the accelerator will cause the van to move again after about. 5 to 1 seconds. Often the accelerator has to be pushed all the way to the floor, which causes the van to move aggressively once it does start to respond causing the tires to spin out. While the performance issue is annoying, this becomes a safety issue when stranded out in traffic.

56 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

On at least 3 occasions, the "auto engine idle stop" has caused my vehicle to completely die while stopped at a stop light. When the car shuts off/dies, the system prompts you to shift the car in park and restart the car, but on these occasions, the car did not start, leaving me stalled in active traffic. I felt very unsafe to be stalled with no way to operate the vehicle. The dealership checked the battery to ensure it wasn't a battery issue and found it to be completely fine. At the time we did not realize that it could be a problem with the auto engine idle stop feature, otherwise we would've had them check that system specifically. Further research from other customer forums online prompted us to turn this feature off, but we have to do that every time we start the car. There is no way for us to turn it off permanently. The car gives you no warning that this will happen. When you remove your foot from the break to resume driving, the car shuts off without immediately restarting, leaving you stranded. I am hoping that Honda will issue a recall on affected models. At this point they aren't offering any help other than to tell us to turn it off, but you have to remember to do that every time you start your vehicle.

57 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2022

Auto restart feature when enabled did not restart vehicle after coming to a stop at stoplight on multiple occasions in the last few months rendering vehicle unable to proceed. We recently saw news article about same issue with pilots.

58 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2021

Merging from west bound I-40 to south bound I-15, there was a slight incline. I accelerated to merge and change lane from 4 to 3, the van suddenly lost power. Engine was running and I could hear it rev up but transmission seemed to not have engaged. The car decelerated to almost 50 mph forcing me to move back to lane 4 in order to avoid being hit by an incoming 18-wheeler. It's most likely an transmission issue of old with Honda. The vehicle regained power after I let go of gas pedal for about 4-5 seconds. It happened again on I-40 near flagstaff at high speed on my way home to dallas from socal on Jan 2nd. To lose available power to wheels at high rate of speed, it's surely a safety hazzard. I don't feel safe to allow my wife to drive the vehicle. Please help investigate.

59 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2021

When making left or right turns from completed stops, the car some time hesitates to move or to speed up for short 2-3 seconds. This could cause accident between my car and in coming trafic.

60 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2021

There is a chirping coming from the engine area with the engine warmed up and now is rattling under neath the van.

61 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2021

The fuel pipe set, fuel joint connecting the high pressure fuel pump to fuel rail was leaking gasoline. When the car is stopped at a light, the gas vapor would be evident around the front of the car and be pulled into the cabin through the vents when not in recirculation mode. The gasoline vapor odor were clearly evident when walking, standing outside the front of the vehicle. The car could have caught fire with leaking fuel from top of the engine. There were no prior engine repairs done to the vehicle, thus a factory defect. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. This leak first occurred during a long 7 hour road trip. Dealer confirmed leak and replaced defective pipe set, fuel joint. Saved defective part.

62 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2021

All warning lights popped up and continued to cycle through when I was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety/limp mode. Shifting became very difficult and the maximum speed topped out at 45mph.

63 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2020

All warning lights popped up when I was driving causing the vehicle to go into a safety mode. Took it to the dealership and had to replace the fuel injectors on a fairly new van!.

64 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

The 2018 Odyssey has many problems on the fuel injectors system that caused all checking engines lights on. The costs to repair is too expensive. Costs me 1650. 00 at my local Honda dealer.

65 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

Entire dash turned off while driving including speedometer and information screen-replaced radiohead. All warning lights came on while driving-replaced fuel injectors. Popcorn sound and warning light came on while driving after picking up car from getting fuel injectors replaced-stating it's a bad rear entertainment system. I bought my car 1 year ago and it's obviously flawed.

66 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

2018 Honda Odyssey was purchased 3/16/2018 at west Honda dealership located in las vegas. Not long after purchase, strong fuel, and similar chemical odor appeared, odor came out of the air vents directly. The odor is so strong that the vehicle would smell chemical and smoky for days. Odor always appeared during driving, the level of strongness caused nausea, cough, and headache. Addressed the issue to 2 different dealerships, with the mention of health concern and fire risk during driving. Both dealerships' service advisors verified the issue verbally, did diagnosis in 3 out of 4 total visits. Could not find the issue while odor presenting in the car; thus, no repair was done to fix the issue. Reports are collected, filed a complaint to the headquarter. Case manager admitted there is something wrong with the vehicle as similar cases with the same type of vehicle are heard from the same area. Being told that no inspection can be done without odor appears again and ignored the previous visits' results.

67 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

While traveling on city streets for 2 hours and 1 hour high way driving, during the middle part of the day for two days straight 6/21/18 and 6/22/18, the inside cabin of the van filled with a very strong smell of gaseous fumes. The overwhelming fumes lasted for approximately 3 hours on both days. Also leaving fumes in the car overnight which were detected as we entered the car the next day around 9:30 a. M. I took the car to Honda auto nation in las vegas at 10:45 am. On 6/23/18. After two hours they notified me that there were no problems with the car. I was adamant in refusing to believe that there was not a problem and that my families life was not in danger. I was taken to two of the dealership's managers and was told by them that this is normal for the inside of the car to fill up with fumes on hot days and that I would just have to deal with it since the car filters the fumes to the front engine and then into the vehicles cabin. They told me that it was a government regulation that fumes not be transmitted to the environment but rather to the inside of the car, but first through filters. I have never experienced this before in my 30 years of driving new vehicles. I have just recently viewed information over the internet that there is a Honda crv lawsuit for their 2015-2017 vehicles pertaining specifically to gaseous fumes from gasoline. I am terrified to use this vehicle. Not only did we have to endure the fumes for hours, but I am worried that our safety is at stake due to an explosion and or asphyxiation.

68 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2018

1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city). 2. ) safety sensor to alert for pedestrians on sides/front do not work properly. Even service rep at dealership said she has had other reports of it not functioning properly and the sensors/system may need to be 'reset'. It is incredibly dangerous to think these systems can fail without any warning message or notice. Car was at a stop and as it started moving forward, a pedestrian came from the right front and was nearly hit. There were no advance warnings, audio/visual to alert the driver. Also after checking with a friend, we could not trigger the alert walking from right to left (from side to front) of vehicle. No accident occurred, thankfully, but people need to know these systems fail and need to be checked to notify of oncoming pedestrians/bikers/vehicles. I bought this expensive vehicle because it had 'sensors' and thought it would be far safer according to sales guy. Not the case. The public is being misled.
