1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

The multipurpose camera failed showing lot of error codes. This affects the braking system putting my family and kids in risk. Honda is asking 2000$ to fix the camera.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2025

Today I was driving thru a green light and my car started breaking and jerking in the middle of the intersection. I was not following closely behind another car. Sometimes if I am going around a curve and a car is approaching me on the curve my car will suddenly break and jerk. My kids are very scared to ride with me due to the inconsistences with my acceleration and jerking out of nowhere.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The windshield monocular camera failed, disabling all safety precautions.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2025

I was involved in an accident with with my family. Pregnant wife and daughter. I got into a front end collision and I was at fault. The forward collision warning didn’t activate, neither did the automatic emergency braking. This system has never failed on me and car has always stopped every time. .

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2025

The automatic braking system beeped alert then applied brakes when I was going around a sharp curve, with cars behind me. Luckily they were far enough behind that they didn't hit me. This has been happening since I first got my Odyssey. I asked the Honda dealer about it if it was a defect and they said no that's how it work. I asked if I could turn it off permanently and they said no - I had to turn if off each time I turned on the car. Which I do most times but I forgot yesterday. I started turning it off regularly when it slammed on the brakes going around a curve some time ago bringing me to almost complete stop with car behind me. I probably should have reported earlier. I was in the car with a friend yesterday when it happened and she has a different model Honda and says it happens to her as well. I also am in a Odyssey facebook forum and someone with a 23 Odyssey is experiencing it - I thought perhaps it was my year and they'd work out the kinks but it does not appear so. I was willing to give Honda a little grace on these early safety systems, but this looks to be an ongoing problem which is unacceptable. I'm going to look into a dashcam to record these incicdents. I asked the dealer because surely they would be able to see a log of when they automatic braking engaged? if not, they should.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2025

My car have never in an any accident but my distance radar sensor not working. And it’s very risky to drive under this condition and it’s very big safety for me and my life so help me to fix this issue.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

The front camera has failed resulting in safety concerns including braking system and cruise control failure. This is a known issue with many new Honda Odysseys and needs to be recalled as it is not safe to drive as it disables all Honda sensing and auto braking components on the vehicle.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2025

Multiple warnings occurred simultaneously for the "brake system" intermittent. I have the same issue per [xxx] for my Honda Odyssey 2018 elite. I can see the same problem by a lot of people. I told Honda and paid them $220 diagnosis fees and they ended up asked me to change the whole camera that cost 4k. This obviously defect issue from Honda. Looks like known issue for this. Can this escalate back to Honda? for example [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2024

Prior to purchasing this vehicle, on the test drive, the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason. The dealer assured me the collision mitigation braking system (“cmbs”) can be turned off, so I bought the car. I then learned that the cmbs automatically turns on every time the engine is turned on. I must shut cmbs off each and every time I start the car, but since my other car is a Tesla (which doesn’t have this problem), sometimes I do forget to shut off cmbs. Through out my almost 7 years of ownership, the car has slammed on the brakes countless numbers of times for absolutely no reason at all. Sometimes no cars are behind me, but there have been several times when cars behind me have almost crashed into me due to my faulty cmbs. My elderly mother is in need of a car and I refuse to let her borrow mine because I am scared she will forget to disable the cmbs and get into a crash. I am deeply astonished that with everything that is known about Honda’s cmbs, NHTSA has not taken any action against this dangerous feature. I wonder what NHTSA is getting paid to look the other way. A complete failure of an institution I used to hold in high regard.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

Soft or low brake pedal the brake pedal have a soft feeling and travel to the floor with low effort. This is causing low braking performance and increased pedal stroke. This condition is increasing the risk of a crash.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

2018 Honda Odyssey front camera failures. We bought it brand new and found out today that front multipurpose camera was not working properly. There are bunches of warning lights popped up on dashboard: lcc, lkas… problems. I went to google and facebook to see there were so many people have the same problem particularly with this 2018 models. Dealership wanted $1800 to replace camera and they know that was Honda technical issues, not in customers control.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

See service Honda service bulletin 20-100 dated 2-11-2021. The fuel injectors part number 16010 (6ea) has failed and my dashboard display , displays most of the sensors that means there is an actual problem, or a false reading. As a Honda owner, I cannot determine if it is an actual fault or a false reading. I had rusty wallace Honda dealer check the car using obd device and the equipment indicates a code 219a, which indicates bad fuel injectors. Now after the check additional and different sensors are displayed with problems than were displayed prior to this check. The trouble shooting and after displaying the code 219a indicated a catastrophic failure. Rusty wallace has verbalized the results and that I should continue driving the vehicle, that this would not damage the engine or the car. I am not a certified mechanic, but my younger days were devoted to back street work repairing and driving vehicles. Anytime that you starve or flood a cyclinder you had serious problems. I need this vehicle as a daily driver.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2024

Warning messages for the following appeared: brake system lane keeping/assist system collision mitigation system problem road departure mitigation system problem auto-high beam problem adaptive cruise control problem none of these safety features now work. Our local dealership told us it was a failure of the multipurpose camera unit. The fix we are told is a $1400 part. The rear camera was just recalled by Honda and repaired within the last month. This failure should not have happened and greatly impacts the safety of the car and it is a common problem when searching Honda message boards.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

The automatic emergency braking system (aeb) the collision mitigation braking system or “cmbs. ” ingaged and stopped the van four (4) times when there where no obsticals in front of the van. Twice this happend while making left turns in four-way intersection.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

Just bought the car used with 60240 mi at the end of March on a Friday. 30 minutes after leaving the dealership the auto idle stop warning notice appeared on the dash stating this feature was unavailable. It would not engage when idle at a light and as a result, when the gas was pressed to accelerate the car would hesitate and jerk into gear. This happened the entire 1. 5-hour ride home, whether for a short pause or longer pause. It was a bit scary because the car would hesitate to move and clearly there were cars behind me. At any point and time, someone could've rear-ended me thinking I was able to accelerate properly. About 1 hour into the ride the brake lights came on flashing red at the bottom of the dash the entire time and would not go out. I immediately called the dealership once I reached my destination to announce the problem. The following Monday I took it back for a look over. In their investigation, they found a tracker attached under the dash and assumed this was interfering with the transmission of messages for the auto idle stop to engage. The dealer claimed there were codes, but after removing this attachment the auto idle stop feature engaged and they cleared all the codes. To my surprise, after 4-5 hours of being there, I drove home to find as I neared by destination all error codes returned including the brake lights flashing. I immediately called the dealer again and complained. This time to not further inconvenience me with the back and forth, they came and picked up the car on a Thursday with the intent of troubleshooting it over the course of some days. They had the car from a Thursday to the next Friday for me to arrive after them saying it was good, to find it was still doing it. This time the codes were reviewed with me in the car and the issue was "it was unlearned". After the reset, it started working again. Four days later it's still happening. Engages when it feels like it which causes a rough drive and acceleration. Honda help!.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2023

My Honda Odyssey 2018 has a problem that sometimes, particularly during winter, that a lot of check lights are on, and sometimes the car starts to slide. The check lights may include the check engine light, the power steering light, the power brake light, and the transmission light. An independent mechanic determined that this is addressed by the Honda service bulletin 20-100, but Honda service representative denies a warranty coverage as they say the VIN is not in the range even when the model, make, and the diagnosis all matches (Honda service representative: case # 13664638, valerie).

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2023

All the warning lights came on, including brakes, power steering, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, and others, indicating the car should be stopped immediately regardless of traffic or conditions. I do not know if the functions were also impaired or if was simply false alarms. I understand this is typical of this auromobile.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate the transmission would not properly shift into gears and would also experience rough shifting. Also the vehicle would not properly accelerate up to speed when pressing the accelerator pedal and a loud mechanical noise was present coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a tcm software update but the failures continued to occur. In addition while pressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle had experienced jerking and vibrations and the driver side and passenger side sliding doors would erroneously reopen after being closed. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 50,000.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2022

Both the dashboard and the computer shut down randomly, different warning signs pop up intermittently and the wheel locks up for a short time. It happens while driving at unpredictable times. It happened on the highway at the speed of 65 mph. And the vehicle is temporarily is not under driver’s control. Yes, I took the vehicle for repair 3 times. Yes, the certified car dealership had identified different issues but none of them had fixed the problem. No, not by insurance or the manufacturer. No, no warning signs prior. First it happened in July, 2022.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2021

I have the car in service for the second time related to errors and issues around adaptive cruise control, automatic breaking, and collision assist. On a couple occasions the auto braking system engages when there is no need.

The power steering stopped working while I was driveing. The lights for power steering, break problem, lane keeping assistant system and lane departure migration lights are all on in the dashboard. The power steering was hard to turn.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

While vehicle in motion, first time brake pedal gets soft and get pressed extensively to floor with loss of braking power, if u hit brake immediately after first press, brake pedal works normal. Again once u hit acceleration, and try to hit brake, first attempt of braking gets very soft and almost bottom out without much braking power then immediately second push to brake pedal becomes more normal and harder braking. Whole cycle keeps repeating.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

The front rotors warped and cause the steering wheels and front end of the car to shake whiling breaking at high speed. Shaking isn't noticeable under 30mph but the fast you go, the worst the shaking becomes. We had this issue with our older 2012 Odyssey and there was a recall for the it. When I ask the dealer about this issue, I was told there is no recall list for it and I will have to pay for replace my breaks and rotors.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle was shaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

First incident in 2018, the minivan came to a quick complete stop unnecessarily. A car in front of me had made a quick turn, I was not in danger of running into the car. I had a driver behind me honking his horn. I could have been rear-ended. Next incident occurred this month, March, 2019. Driving down a street, 25 m. P. H. The car shut down completely. I had to pull over, the wheel was hard to turn. After pulling over, I started the car again and drove home. Good thing I was not on a major interstate. Both occurred on city streets. August 16, 2018 first incident. March 11, 2019.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

On 30 Dec 2018 as my family and I drove through osceola county, florida, our Odyssey displayed an error message that read, "some driver assist systems cannot operate: radar obstructed. " the temperature was around 70 deg f and it was moderately foggy. The message cleared itself after 20-30 minutes and the driver assist systems came back online. We did not see any such error for the rest of our trip. At the end of our trip, on 3 Jan 2019, when my family and I were just outside charlottesville, virginia, the vehicle proceeded to brake quite aggressively without driver input, as if it were avoiding a collision. It occurred near mile marker 115 on I-64 westbound, on a downward slope at dusk on dry pavement. We were perhaps 1000-1200 ft from the exit itself, well beyond the range of the extra long setting on the acc at 70 mph. The only cars in front of us were already at the exit and did not appear to be undergoing any unusual maneuvers. This off-ramp is particularly long at this exit so I would not anticipate that those vehicles just entering the ramp were decelerating rapidly. I was using acc and lkas, as I had during most of our trip. When the van was braking, I instinctively depressed the throttle pedal to try to maintain speed. That resulted in the engine revving and no change to the hard braking. I disengaged the acc using the cancel button and that appeared to end the hard braking (I may have briefly depressed the brake pedal at the same time but cannot be sure). I will also estimate that we went from around 70 mph to around 30-40 mph in those 2-3 seconds. There was no obvious external reason for the emergency braking maneuver instigated by the Honda's onboard system. This presented a significant potential hazard. We were very fortunate that there were no vehicles immediately behind us or we would have run a very high risk of rear collision.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

My car has been issued a recall and I made an appointment with Honda autonation chandler az; when I arrived, the dealership said they didn't know how to fix it and said to go to tempe Honda instead.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

My car shakes when I brake. Honda dealership tells me that's ok, the new brakes do that a little. My 2007 Odyssey did not do this. I have taken to the dealer 3 times telling them about this issue.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

Upon proceeding through an intersection the van began to automatically break to a complete stop from approximately 30-35mph, screeching tires, then shutting completely off. The entire dashboard cluster was dark as was the computer display for the radio/other controls. Looking down the "park" indicator was lit red. I pressed the break and the van started up and went into gear driving as if nothing occurred. This scared me and upon my call to Honda, they said it's related to another "electrical system update" which needs to occur but has not been completed so there was nothing they could do. I reached out to another dealership explaining the situation and they advised me to use the roadside assistance to have the van taken to them for safety reasons.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

From the day I bought my car the brakes have squealed when applying them at a low rate of speed. There have been multiple times I have tried to accelerate and the gas took an extended time to work. Once I was trying to switch lanes and when I accelerated the van didn't go any faster and I almost caused an accident. The van shifts extremely hard. Everything the van shifts around 20-30 mph the entire vehicle jolts back and forth. This is a huge safety issue and the dealers will not acknowledge it. I have reached out to Honda's corporate number but they refuse to help. They have replaced the brakes, fluids and fuel injectors but all the issues still remain. I have also had a few issues with the sound system not working properly but have not mentioned that to the dealership or Honda corporate.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2018

At 25 mph the collision avoidance system unexpectedly engaged and braked with full antilock vibrations when there was no car within braking range. The car behind me braked hard and an accident was fortunately avoided. This occurred after dealing with the dealer over several days regarding phantom collision avoidance cautions occurring on a daily basis. The vehicle also braked autonomously without any car in front of it earlier in the evening.

34 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2018

On Saturday, 1/27/18 at 9:17am mountain time we were driving in a residential neighborhood following a silver SUV. As we approach an intersection with a green light, the SUV in front of us turned on their blinker to slow down to make a right turn. We were following behind at a safe distance. The SUV slowed down considerably to make the turn, but we remained behind at a safe distance as the SUV made the turn. The automatic collision detection system on our Honda Odyssey flashed a warning, as I've seen before, and the warning was appropriate given the situation. The SUV completed its turn and I reapplied the gas in the intersection. As I did so, the vehicle automatically braked, very hard, causing us to almost come to a complete stop in the intersection. I assume that we were traveling at a speed of appx 15 miles per hour as we entered the intersection. We were almost rear-ended by the car behind us (who honked at us, and with good reason). There was absolutely no need for the automatic braking to engage in this situation. Furthermore, the braking would have happened much too late to avoid a collision had one been imminent. The feeling of losing control of driving your own vehicle is extremely unsettling. While I like the idea of the automatic braking feature, this event is incredibly concerning. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged luckily. But, this easily could have caused a significant accident.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. While stationary, the vehicle would not turn off when prompted. On more than one occasion, all of the doors failed to open when prompted by the key fob. In addition, the brake mitigation engaged with a visual and audio alarm when there was no other vehicle around. Furthermore, the instrument panel indicators did not illuminate when the vehicle started and the cross-traffic monitor malfunctioned and had to be turned off. Del ray Honda (2500 south federal highway, del ray beach, FL) was made aware of the series of failures. The battery and the tuners were replaced on the vehicle, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: 0662-4591. The failure mileage was 636.
