36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2025

My 2019 Honda Odyssey’s power liftgate control model failed due to water intrusion. My liftgate started to open and close while I was driving, would close on me while loading/unloading the trunk, and would also open while parked in parking lots nearly hitting passing vehicles. It is truly a huge safety concern. Once the old module was out, I found extensive corrosion and rust on the module and its housing. As well, the entire bracket inside of the vehicle is rusted. There appears to be a defect in the manufacturers body seams that is allowing water to enter.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

On a rainy day, the power tailgate began to malfunction. First it would open part of the way, beep, and then close, then when trying again it would go move back and forth on its own, and then close. Trying it again later, however, it completely stopped working to the point where we had to manually force it to open and close, only the latch would work. The heads-up display showed power tailgate error. On my attempt to troubleshoot I found that water had leaked into the area behind the driver's-side rear inside body panel where the rear control module and fuse housing is located, which I noticed was covered with water. I was able to partially dry this. Later on the rear tailgate started working again briefly but the problem returned and now it no longer works. I contacted Honda USA about this issue and they told me there is no recall for this, however when I did a google search this issue immediately pops up and seems to be a common manufacturing safety problem that has not been addressed.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2025

I am filing this complaint to report a recurring and costly defect involving the starter system in my Honda Odyssey. The vehicle has been experiencing starter failures every few months, requiring repeated repairs and part replacements. Each time the starter fails, I am left stranded without warning, creating a serious safety hazard, especially when the failure occurs in public areas, on road shoulders, or during emergencies. The defect has caused extreme inconvenience, financial strain, and raised serious concerns about the reliability and safety of this vehicle. Given the frequency and cost of the problem, I believe this constitutes a systemic defect that should be investigated for a potential recall or manufacturer responsibility. I urge the NHTSA to thoroughly investigate this matter to determine whether this ongoing issue with the starter poses a broader public safety concern and qualifies for regulatory or enforcement action.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2025

My radar and multipurpose camera need replacement.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that whenever it rained, water was leaking into the vehicle and caused the rear door circuit board and power module to short circuit. The contact stated that the rear door was inoperable. The contact stated that the failure was an ongoing issue which started a year after purchasing the vehicle new. The contact stated that whenever it rained the rear door failed to function normally. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the same dealer several times and the dealer was unable to duplicate or determine the cause of the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer for the recent failure. The dealer diagnosed that water had entered the vehicle from the roof and had accumulated in the rear door near the electrical circuits. The dealer determined that the rear door power module and circuit board needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

Nine simultaneous, spontaneous errors while driving in town. Error messages were as follows: * emissions system problem * brake system problem * transmission system problem * brake hold system problem * power steering system (eps) problem * vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem * hill start assist problem * road departure mitigation system problem * blind spot info system problem.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

Shortly after owning we started noticing sporadic jerks between 24-29 mph that felt like a hard up shift. We immediately brought to our local Honda dealership where they performed a software update. We were told that the vehicle struggles to shift while under load. Recently our van was making a whining noise and seemed hard/delay to accelerate in drive as well as reverse. Almost felt like I was in neutral, but was not. No warning lights were on, but something was not right so I went home. The next day it would not start and lit up every warning light. We had it towed to the dealership and was told battery was shot so they replaced. On way home it was still hard to accelerate so we brought it right back to the dealership and have been told a new transmission is needed. We have had all maintenance done at dealership prior to this. In fact, the vehicle was just in 3 weeks ago for an oil change and everything looked great. These issues have occurred without any warning lights or diagnostic alerts, making them unpredictable and dangerous. A transmission should not fail without any particular warning to the driver. It seems these transmissions have had a defect from the date of manufacturer that cause malfunctions, premature failing, costly repairs, and most important major safety concerns. Honda needs to be held accountable.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

My power liftgate ceased to open or close via any electronic means (button on dash, button on remote, tailgate left button on back of vehicle). The tailgate control module in the rear driver side panel was full of water when it was removed. The circuit board back side was covered with moisture damage which has shorted out the board.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the messages "emissions system failure", "brake system failure", "brake hose system failure", "power steering failure", "eps failure, "vehicle stability assist (vsa) failure", "hill start assist failure" and "road departure mitigation system failure" were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a vehicle safety complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2025

Bcm software is out of date or not programmed correctly, car turns off while driving. When park and off and the keys are away, car tries to turn on by itself. Power lost while driving.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

The lkas and several other lights are on in the vehicle and no one has been able to provide any answers as to why. Nor can the problem be fixed. There is also a problem with the transmission. Upon acceleration there is a hesitation that the car will not engage.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2025

Lkas, acc, collision avoidance, road departure, auto high beam problem, and brake system - all these dash lights come on due to unknown reasons. New battery and terminal connections have good contact. Four safety features are now inoperative and no cruise control.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

Water was leaking inside of the back driver side corner of the tailgate. The water built up inside of the ptg module and ruined it. The tailgate lock suddenly failed and opened up while driving down the road. The warning lamp illuminated that said tailgate error. No wreck just a sudden fail. I have video of the module pouring water out of it as I removed it from the vehicle.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

Water intrusion from driver side roof rack seal caused water entering the vehicle. Trunk underneath carpet wet. Power tailgate stopped working and it was identified that the ecu (control unit) part number 74970-thr-a12 located behind the rear driver side trunk trim got water into it and corroded. Need to be replaced. Roof need to be re sealed. Further damage/corrosion from water which already was entering the vehicle unknown at this point.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2025

The power tailgate is not working, no fuse is blown, control model needs to be replaced, likely due to leak in back of car (happened after heavy rain). Looks like many owners of the same car have experienced the same issue.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

When starting my van, I got warnings for acc, lane departure, and collision mitigation stating that the issues were broken. I received error code u3000-49 at the Honda repair dealer which stated the multipurpose camera no longer works. In doing my research, it appears this is a known issue that Honda is not taking responsibility for and charging $1,500 to $2,000 to repair. They state the car works fine other than having none of those safety features working.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2025

A number of warnings popped adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation problem, and auto high beam problem. Only light that is on is my brake system light. I read a bit on some forums and it is likely to be the the front camera. Apparently the multipurpose camera unit (mcu) fails often on these vehicles, causing these errors and the cruise control to stop working.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2025

I have had a recurring problem for years that the dealership has been unable to resolve. Occasionally while we are at a stop, and the engine auto off system kicks in, and then I tried to go again, the car stalls completely. Battery tests fine. It does not restart until sometimes after I open and close my driver side door a couple of times which I assume reboots the electrical system in some manner. The car then starts up again and is okay. This is extremely dangerous as it happens in the middle of driving down the road, and the dealership has been unable to identify a solution or what the real problem is.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2025

The automatic engine start stop when at a stop while driving creates dangerous conditions. The engine stalls during the re-start and it seems to pull the voltage all the way down to where every controller is dead and restarting. Cycling ignition switch while cluster is black or restarting or throwing up bunches of fault messages as traffic is now moving and you are still stopped. Sometimes this re-boot process can take around 30 seconds (guessing, I'm freaking out during those moments so time is tough but it feels like a long time). I have not had an accident yet but definitely some very scary moments with wife and kids in the vehicle. This auto stop feature can be disabled but requires you hit the button with each ignition cycle and I don't always remember to do that. The Honda Odyssey currently has 80,000 miles on it, we bought it new in 2019 and this has been happening since it was new. We have had this reviewed at two different dealerships; there seems to be a dismissive attitude by the service departments. They have replaced batteries and there was a software update in early 2024 but this issue is definitely still present.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2025

I have had the trunk struts and power module replaced twice due to water leaks into the compute module of my trunk. It has cost me headaches and thousand of dollars to have it fixed. This issue should be recalled to fix and for a reseal of the trunk. My dash has a power lift gate error show up and will not open anymore. Also it will not stay open as well and slowly just close itself.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2025

All warning lights turned on about 9. Emissions system problem, transmission system problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system (eps) problem, vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem, hill start assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, blind spot info system problem. Steering becomes really difficult, reverse and forward gives out and really hard to control vehicle. Not able to accelerate. This problem happened out of nowhere no issues prior to the lights coming on took it to Honda they said there was no problem and they had not experienced this problem before. This is about the fourth time this happens now did my research and other owners of similar vehicles have the same issues.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

The camera sensor in my 2019 Honda Odyssey ex-l failed due to excessive overheating. The sensor reached extreme temperatures, leading to a complete system failure. As a result, the vehicle became inoperable. The failed component is no longer available for inspection as I was forced to purchase a replacement due to the vehicle’s dependency on it for proper function. The failure of the camera sensor created multiple dangerous situations: loss of vehicle control: the vehicle lost acceleration functionality and automatically shut itself down, which could have led to a crash in traffic. Dashboard warning lights: all dashboard lights illuminated simultaneously, indicating a severe system failure. Fire hazard: the sensor was emitting extreme heat, creating a potential fire risk due to overheating electronics. Exposure to the elements: the sensor’s placement in direct sunlight likely contributed to its overheating, further increasing the risk of failure. Mandatory dependency on the sensor: the vehicle was rendered inoperable without the functioning sensor, leaving me without a safe means of transportation. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the sensor had failed due to overheating. However, they stated that the cost of replacement, installation, and recalibration would be my financial responsibility. The issue was evaluated by a Honda dealership, but no manufacturer action was taken to address the failure beyond suggesting an expensive repair. All dashboard warning lights illuminated simultaneously. Loss of acceleration control occurred before the vehicle shut down automatically. The sensor was emitting extreme heat prior to the failure. The issue persisted after restarting the vehicle—after a 10-minute cooldown, the vehicle restarted but failed again after 3-5 minutes. This malfunction was not only a significant inconvenience but a major safety hazard. The sensor’s location makes it highly susceptible to overheating.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2025

Water intrusion near rear tailgate control box. The circuit board was ruined by water and the automatic tailgate was at first malfunctioning and then would not function at all. The circuit board had to be replaced.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the low oil pressure warning light and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that messages indicating emissions, lane assist failures and other unknown messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to an impendent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the vehicle had passed inspection, and the failure could be a computer software failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v439000 (back over prevention, electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. Additionally, the contact stated that the passenger's side and driver's side sliding doors had failed to open and close as intended while engaging the automatic power door switch. The contact stated that the sliding doors were able to close manually for a while. The contact stated that upon closing the sliding doors manually, a chime indicating that the sliding doors were not closed securely was sounded. The contact stated that passenger's side sliding door was half opened and half closed. The contact stated that the driver's side sliding door had failed to close and to latch as intended. The contact stated that one of the interior sliding door panels had fallen while driving. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v437000 (latches/locks/linkages); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

I am reporting a serious safety concern regarding my 2019 Honda Odyssey, which poses a risk to me and my family. The issue is intermittent, making it difficult for the dealership to replicate. The problem began when the collision mitigation system warning light flashed, indicating a system malfunction. This was followed by multiple warning lights appearing on the dashboard. At times, the entire dashboard and screen go blank, and all gauges shut off while I am driving on both city streets and highways-though the engine remains on. Additionally, I have experienced the following issues: the steering wheel stiffness when making turns, the vehicle hesitates to accelerate after being at a stop. In December 2023, I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership, where they recommended replacing the front camera/sensor (behind the rear mirror) at a cost of over $1,500. 00. I proceeded with the repair in December 2023. However, the same issues returned in January 2025. This defect poses a severe safety risk, especially when driving at higher speeds or in traffic. Since the dealership has been unable to diagnose the issue due to its sporadic nature, I am requesting an investigation into this matter to determine if other owners are experiencing similar safety risks. Thank you for your time and attention to this issue.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2024

At the grocery store and trunk would not close. Warning on the dash says “power tailgate problem”. Stranded my wife in the parking lot until she was able to get in touch with me to tell her she had to close it manually. It’s very hard to overcome the actuators manually if you’re a smaller statured person.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2024

Leak in roof rail seam causes interior water leak and fried liftgate opener. Known issue manufacturer is not willing to address. Recent class action: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2024

Rear power tailgate module fried due to moisture intrusion. Trunk will not close. Lock stuck in closed position.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

Lka; collision mitigation problem; auto high beam; road departure mitigation; adaptive cruise control dashboard has all of these lighting up. Dealer said it was a sensor issue. No accidents; well cared for vehicle just spontaneously started issuing these alerts each time the car starts and the duration of the drive. Due to all the warnings the driver isn’t able to see fuel range etc.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

I took my van to the dealer and they told me that the sensor inside of the front mirror is faulty, causing the following lights to continue to cycle if the car is adaptive cruise control problem (acc); auto high-beam problem (a); road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (lkas); brake system lights. I am unable to engage or disengage any of these systems, including when I am driving. This seems to be a major security hazard and I am aware of others that have experienced this with this exact year, make and model (across different packages) of Honda minivan. I just wanted to report this in case this becomes a major concern for other consumers.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

The power lift gate would not open with the button on the dash, the button on the door, or the button on the key fob. The only way I could open it was to crawl in the back of the van, remove the access panel for the lock mechanism, and use the lever to unlock the door. Upon troubleshooting the problem, it was determined that the power lift gate control module needed to be replaced. That fixed the issue, however upon inspection on the old module, which is located inside the vehicle, behind the driver rear quarter interior panel, there was obvious signs the failure was due to severe water damage intrusion into the module.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2024

Out of nowhere. . . A bunch of warnings lights have appeared and disabled a lot of the safety features on the vehicle. Adaptive cruise control problem lane keeping assist problem collision mitigation system problem road departure mitigation system problem auto high beam problem the car drives fine but the safety features do not work, along with the cruise control. This is a known issue for Honda and there needs to be a recall before someone get hurt!!!.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2024

My family and I had just gotten on the parkway and the car wouldn't downshift. I noticed the "drive" light kept blinking and then the dashboard lit up with so many different warning messages. "emmissions system problem" was the message that stayed on. All of a sudden the car started shifting on its own into neutral, while we were on the parkway. Thank goodness there was an exit approaching and we were able to get off before we were injured in an accident. I have been having battery issues ever since I got this car. Even when it was brand new, sometimes it just wouldn't start. If I wait a little bit, eventually it starts, but I have already had to replace a battery at 30,000 miles because of this. It has been happening again, but when I bring it to Honda and my mechanic, the battery is normal. After doing research, it appears there was a recall on the 2019 Honda Odyssey with an issue relating to the battery connection that causes that transmission to reboot while driving and shift on its own. Honda claims my car was not part of this recall, but this is exactly what happened to me, and I have a 2019 Odyssey. They have had my car for three weeks now and can't find answers to fix the problem. When I first brought the car in, they said the technician was finding "a lot of stuff. " fast forward two weeks, and they called to say it's not happening anymore so they are ruling it an "intermittent issue" and to come get the car (not fixed). I told them I do not feel safe with my children in that car. I need answers. I contacted Honda corporate who said that Honda told them the transmission fluid was the reason, and to start with that and see if it happens again. I asked them about that recall and they said "well your car doesn't come up with it. " is it just a coincidence that the same thing has been happening to my car? I asked if they were able to find out why the car doesn't start "intermittently" and they said, "no, it hasn't happened while here. ".

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

The srs airbag fault has been popping up for a while on the van. I went to my local dealership to get this fixed. $1,500 later they tell me they fixed an airbag harness and the problem should be good to go. A week later the fault appears again. I feel like they’re just throwing parts at the van to fix this legitimate safety concern. Now they want to charge us $3,000 to fix another harness. For this being a safety concern and have been told my air bags may not be deploy in a crash, the dealership and Honda isn’t taking this situation serious.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2024

The front facing multi purpose camera is defective with a replacement cost of $1800-$2000. It controls all the lane assist, cruise control, braking functions of the vehicle.
