36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2026

2025 Honda Odyssey with 21. 5k miles on it. Pulled up to a stoplight after a 3 hour drive. Auto stop turned the van off. When the light turned green the van failed to restart. Put the vehicle in park, turned it off, waited a few seconds and attempted to re-start it. Van restarted but very sluggish, like the battery was dead. Pulled in and parked. Van started normal the rest of the day. Took it to the dealer 2 days later. They noted the battery was a little low but no codes and no explanation for why it failed to restart. They checked alternator and starter and claim they are both good.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2026

Vehicle turns off unexpectantly at red lights/intersections when auto idle engages and will not restart automatically. It takes 1 to 2 minutes for the vehicle to restart. There is no predicting when the issue occurs. Causes vehicle to be immobile in busy and congested intersections which results in safety issues to us and oncoming traffic. There is a potential for a head on or t-bone collision when this happens. We've had starter replaced before at 22,000 miles and now we have to do it again at 36,000 miles. The Honda dealer said he sees this issue twice a week so we aren't the only ones. To my knowledge, Honda has yet to come out with a permanent repair.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2026

Component and availability: the engine fails to restart after auto idle stop shuts it off and now also fails to start on normal starts. The failure involves the auto idle stop system and the engine starting system. The vehicle is available for inspection on request. What happened and safety risk: on approximately 8/5, I was stopped at a stop sign with auto idle stop engaged. The engine shut off as designed but did not restart when I released the brake, and the vehicle automatically shifted into park. The start button would not restart the engine, the vehicle could not be shifted out of park, and the button also would not turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was stranded in an active intersection, where other drivers had to go around it, until it eventually restarted after several tries. Since then we have turned off auto idle stop on every drive, but the vehicle has now also failed to start on normal starts: 9/17, 9/18 and several others in the 8/5-9/17 period. The car would not crank and start, it would only start after several (3-5) tries. A vehicle that cannot be reliably started or restarted risks leaving the driver and passengers stranded in traffic or unsafe locations. Dealer confirmation: this car has been seen by the dealer previously (I. E. , in summer 2025) with the same issue, and had battery and starter system replaced. However, the issue recurred after several months. This vehicle appears to fall within NHTSA investigation ea25004 (auto idle stop failure to restart). Warning signs: no warning lamps or messages appeared before or during the failures; dashboard and interior lights worked normally throughout. The only earlier symptom was slow or rough engine restarts after auto idle stop on hot days.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2026

Auto idle/stop system engages while sitting at a traffic signal as designed. When attempting to proceed, the engine fails to restart and all electrical components completely shut off for several minutes. All components stop working (information screen, gauges, hazard lights, and door locks are non-functional) and the vehicle is unable to turn on for several minutes. This creates an unreasonable safety risk for the occupants of the vehicle and for surrounding motorists when this failure occurs in active traffic lanes as the vehicle when it is reasonably expected for the vehicle to resume propulsion and with no ability to turn on hazard lights to warn approaching motorists of the vehicle's disabled status. The failure of the door locks during the event traps the occupants inside the vehicle, which we are in florida so, hot summer days the internal temperatures can reach deadly levels within minutes with no way to escape. The vehicle was initially inspected by a manufacturer authorized dealer service department on 7/8/25 and the issue was dismissed. The vehicle was again inspected on 7/30/25 by the same service department and confirmed. A starter motor assembly and relays were replaced by the dealership and the vehicle returned to use on 8/4/25. Again, on 8/5/26 the vehicle exhibited the same safety defect while in an active traffic lane. The vehicle was returned to the same service department on 8/6/26 where it remains as the date of this report with no communication on resolution for the problem from the manufacturer. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2026

In approximately October 2025, while stopped at a traffic light, my 2025 Honda Odyssey's auto idle-stop system shut the engine off as designed. When I released the brake, the engine failed to restart. The vehicle remained disabled in active traffic for about one minute. After several attempts and shifting into park, it finally restarted. There were no warning lamps or messages beforehand. This put me and others at risk because the vehicle was unexpectedly immobilized at an intersection and could have been struck from behind. An authorized Honda dealer diagnosed the starter as causing a slow/no-start condition and replaced it under warranty on October 9, 2025, at 21,211 miles (repair order #192362). The problem has recurred. I began noticing hesitant or slow restarts and normally disable auto idle-stop because I am afraid the vehicle may again fail to restart. On August 4, 2026, at 40,990 miles, the same Honda dealer diagnosed the starter as needing replacement again (repair order #203412). The battery passed its reserve-capacity test. The dealer documented a 0. 600-volt ground-side drop, a 0. 275-volt positive-side drop, and onboard voltage falling to approximately 7 volts during restart. Honda techline directed the dealer to replace the starter (techline case #5009355). The vehicle and current starter are available for inspection. The original starter was retained or disposed of by the dealer after the first repair. American Honda case #16533911 is open. No police or insurance representatives inspected the vehicle.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2026

My brand new vehicle continues to leave me stranded at stop lights because of the auto start stop system. Even though I have already taken it up to the dealership before and had it repaired. (there is a class action started over this).

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2026

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart after being turned off. The auto start/stop system failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the battery was in good working order, but the starter was not operating as designed. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while at a traffic light. The vehicle was restarted after another attempt with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA action number: ea25004 (engine and engine cooling). The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2026

This vehicle will randomly turn these features on and instead of keeping you in your lane pull you off the road, I have had to pull over to turn the vehicle off to get it to turn off.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2026

While driving my 2025 Honda Odyssey, the auto idle stop system shut off the engine at a stop as designed, but the engine failed to restart when I released the brake pedal. This left the vehicle stalled at an intersection. No warning lights appeared. This has occurred 6 times. Dealer was contacted; service is scheduled.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2026

Incident description: the vehicle entered an auto idle stop event at a traffic light and stalled completely instead of restarting when the brake pedal was released. The red battery warning light illuminated, and the vehicle had to be shifted into park and the ignition key cycled multiple times to eventually achieve a slow, sluggish crank and engine restart in active traffic. Another vehicle was almost going to hit me from behind since red light turned to green when this happened, and that driver from far behind was thinking that my vehicle will start moving and did not slow down. That driver started honking and yelling. It was scary since I had 3 small kids in my vehicle. Dealership diagnostics: I dropped off the vehicle at a local Honda dealership to get this checked. From the invoice/service document, I see this note: cause: took several attempts but was able to duplicate concern of when vehicle goes into auto start stop it will not always restart, will have to cycle key. Noticed when it did restart it is slow to crank. Battery tested good, and had good reserve voltage. Used tech line as a resource and found this issue is caused by starter not having enough voltage to properly engage auto stop start. Rec replacing starter. Correction: replaced starter.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2026

I was driving on a road around 30 mph when the engine cut off and shifted itself into park. No warning, no power, no movement. Car was dead in the road and I was unable to move it to the curb. I tried to press the drive button. Nothing. I pressed the starter button. Nothing. Parkway Honda said they could find nothing wrong other than replacing the battery. Car is brand new. Bought used at 6,000 miles and have only driven it 4,000 additional miles in roughly one year. Very dangerous defect for which they have no explanation.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2026

The ais system does not start back up at a light. Sometimes throws itself into park. Last week it started up, but everything shut down about 75 after the traffic light. The entire car loss all power. In the middle of traffic. Needed a policeman to wave cars around e in the middle of the street. Took to the dealership; they kept it for two days and could not recreate the situation. The car had the same problem with start up two days later after leaving the dealership.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2026

When the van is turned off it does not want to start easily again. This has now happened approximatly 5 times. I had the battery checked at o'reilly's and the battery was fine but the starter was not.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2026

Vehicles turns off when the brake is pressed and does not turn back on. The van has to be put into park and the start button has to be hit 2-3 times before it will restart. This has happened 3 distinctive times where it was difficult to restart. We try to disable the start/stop system each time we drive. It has left us stranded at traffic lights for up to 20 seconds trying to restart the van, impeding traffic at high speed interchanges. The van does eventually restart but each time it feels like it’s getting more difficult. This problem first appeared about 1 year after purchasing the van with about 23k miles on it and now has 26k miles. There are warnings that display because the vehicle is still in drive when it shuts off and it needs to be placed back into park to restart it. It occurs the most during a long drive on the highway. It can be very jerky when it restarts, perhaps slamming into gear. It is available for inspection and I plan to go to the Honda dealership soon for a scheduled oil change. I have not been there since the 18k mile oil change.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2026

Engine won't start. This problem began as intermittent no start after driving for more than 30 minutes in hot weather. Such as stopping for fuel or a roadside rest on the interstate. It has progressed to intermittent no start in the mornings, or after work. Or after short drives for errands. Vehicle has been evaluated by the Honda service center. They stated they couldn't reproduce the problem, but it is a known problem. They also stated that there isn't any parts available. And there won't be any parts available until January 2027 or later. I asked what's my options, this car isn't reliable and it's going to leave my family stranded. The service center told us to not use ais (auto idle stop) we haven't used it since we bought it. No loaner, rental or other options. No replacement parts for 5-6 months isn't acceptable. This vehicle only has 20,000 miles and is 18 months old.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2026

Idle stop and restart problem: after stopping , the engine shut off and won't be able to restart. Happened multiple times even after the Honda services department re-programmed it.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2026

Starting problem. The vehicle sometimes (randomly) refuses to start after shutting off. For example, after filling gas, or turning off (idle off) at a stop light. It just refuses to start. Terrifying. Researched on the internet and found thousands of complaints about this going back years. This needs a recall.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2026

Engine fails to restart after auto off.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2026

My 2025 Honda oddessy with only about 31,000 has stalled in the last 2-3 months about 5 times at stop signs/stop lights. It throws itself in park and doesn't recognize that I'm pushing any buttons. On the dash it only says "press the brake" which I am doing. I called victory city Honda in michigan city, in [xxx]) and arranged a diagnostics check on xxx. They said it wasn't throwing codes and didn't replicate when they test drove the vehicle. If I turn off the auto start/stop it doesn't seem to happen but if I forget to push this button each and every drive - it stalls and won't start for up to 10 minutes. Once we were parking at home and it would not allow us to shut the vehicle off. Upon research I found NHTSA investigation id#xxx with the exact problem I am experiencing. I called my Honda dealor to report and they stated they are not able to do any software updates without a Honda recall. I have another appointment with them on xxx to check the battery and possibly the brake pedal sensor. Please help. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2026

2025 Honda Odyssey with approximately 22,000 miles. On multiple occasions while stopped at traffic lights or stop signs, the vehicle's auto idle stop feature shut the engine off normally. When I attempted to accelerate, the engine failed to restart, leaving the vehicle disabled in the travel lane. The battery warning light illuminated, and on one earlier occurrence I believe a "shift to park" message may also have appeared. I was able to restart the vehicle by pressing the start button, shifting back into drive, and continuing normally. The most recent incident occurred while stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green and I pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not restart or move. I had to manually restart the engine while stopped in the intersection before I could proceed. This created a safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly became disabled in active traffic. The vehicle has never exhibited difficulty starting during normal operation, either when cold or warm. The problem has only occurred after the auto idle stop system shut the engine off at a stop. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a Honda dealer, but an appointment will be scheduled.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2026

Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped. This has occurred approximately 10 times. The vehicle was previously taken to an authorized Honda dealership for this issue. The dealership diagnosed the battery as the cause and replaced it, but the same problem continued afterward. The two most recent incidents occurred on 7/21. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The vehicle shut off and did not restart normally when traffic began moving. We were left immobilized in an active traffic lane while vehicles approached and passed us at approximately 55 mph. We had difficulty getting the vehicle restarted and moving again. This presents a serious rear-end collision risk because approaching drivers expect traffic to move when the light changes. Four children regularly ride in this vehicle, and we do not believe it is safe to continue driving. We contacted the Honda dealership again after the battery replacement failed to correct the problem. We were told that unless technicians could duplicate the issue, there was nothing further they could do. Because the failure is intermittent, we cannot predict when it will occur, but it has happened approximately 10 times and has continued after Honda’s attempted repair. We also opened a case with american Honda motor CO. , inc. We are reporting this because the vehicle can unexpectedly leave our family stranded in an active traffic lane and unable to move out of the path of approaching traffic.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2026

After ais engaged, the engine wouldn’t come back on. This has been at intersections, etc where it was dangerous to have no engine. It is ridiculous that the feature has not been removed after problems going back to the 2018 model. All to game an emission standard. Shameful.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2026

When stopped at a red light today, our minivan's auto idle stop (ais) system stopped the engine with the brakes depressed (as advertised). Once the light turned green, the driver released the brake to re-engage the motor, but the starter did no restart the minivan and a battery light flashed on. The start button had to be pressed several (~4) times to get the motor to restart and to turn the battery light off.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2026

My vehicle has failed to restart numerous times at stoplights with the auto start engaged. It also failed once when it was disengaged. It also stalls to start on initial start quite often. Even when it is disengaged, upon stopping my vehicle makes a type of quiver in the engine that sounds like a stall or like it is about to cut off. It usually evens out after 5-10 seconds. I had people drive around me, in heavy traffic, after a major fail at a red light. I had an aggressive drive pass around me quickly at another incident at a smaller redlight intersection. I have had it cut off, with my family, over 50mls away from home. A dealership replaced my battery that was under warranty. I was told there were no other issues and to keep my auto start disengaged while driving. I'm not sure that is my safest option at this point. I am extremely concerned it will happen at an intersection and I will roll into traffic with my family.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2026

Auto idle stop/start system malfunctions intermittently. The car will shut off at a red light/stop sign then will not automatically restart. Will require shifting to park and restarting the car at the intersection.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2026

Sometimes the engine wouldn't start. Sometimes the engine would be slow to start. Checked battery and nothing wrong with it. Took it to Honda and asked to look into common starter problem. They did say the starter was faulty and replaced it.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2026

This has been addressed by the dealer once before and the starter was replaced, however the problem is happening again. The auto start/idle feature will not start the car back up while stopped on occasion. For instance, yesterday while stopped at a red light the auto idle/start feature kicked in, as expected. When releasing the brake to drive when the light turned green the car beeped and would not start again. We had to power the whole van down at a busy intersection and restart. Thankfully it started. We didn’t catch what warning lights flashed when the van beeped, but no warning lights were present before the issue. As mentioned, this has happened before to the point the dealership replaced the starter. But unfortunately, it is happening again. The van often has a rough start as well when using it, but not every time.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2026

My vehicle has experienced repeated unexpected engine shutdown/no-start events, creating a significant safety hazard. The engine has unexpectedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped in traffic and while entering traffic, resulting in a sudden loss of propulsion. On one occasion, the vehicle would not restart for approximately one minute. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealership, and the starter was replaced under warranty in July 2025. The repair did not correct the problem. Since that repair, the same failure has occurred multiple additional times. The issue has now occurred at least six times over approximately one year. Because the condition is intermittent, the dealership has not permanently identified the root cause. The vehicle is currently being returned to the dealership for further diagnosis, and I have requested that the matter be escalated to Honda technical assistance (tech line) and Honda engineering. This defect creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose power while in or entering traffic, increasing the risk of a collision. There were no consistent warning lights or messages before the failures, and the condition occurs intermittently without warning. The vehicle remains available for inspection.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2026

While stopped at traffic light, ais cuts off engine but stall engine, won’t stray immediately. Have to cutoff engine and restart. Takes several tries to restart. Has happened several times over the last 6 months.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2026

Vehicle failed to start occasionally, which could be a hazard with the auto start/stop feature. Issue was confirmed with dealer and corrected under warranty. Starter was replaced.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2026

Vehicle with 37k miles. When the idle stop feature is activated at a stop, it causes the vehicle to stall requiring a restart. The starter occasionally does not work as well. Starter and battery was replaced at 12k and the issue has resurfaced. This poses a significant safety risk.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2026

Stopped in heavy traffic in a four lane highway. Auto start/stop shut the engine down as expected. Traffic ahead cleared. I took my foot off of the brake to step on the gas. The engine didn't start up, and the radio and all lights inside went blank. Traffic behind me approached at about 45 mph. And were swerving around to avoid hitting my dead vehicle from the rear. I pushed the start button. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Several times more with my foot on the brake, or off the brake. Nothing. I put it in park and kept trying the start button. Finally it started, the radio and dash display came on, and from then on it operated as usual. Scared the hell out of us. There was no warning that anything in the car was malfunctioning before this happened. Took it to the dealer. They looked it over, kept it overnight. Told me the next day that the battery can get drained too much if the air/cond is on max and the start/stop feature doesn't like that. They used a machine to drain the battery and recharge it and they tell me now that it should be good. I don't believe one has to be aware not to use the air on max while the start/stop is enabled. I'm afraid to drive the car now! our lives were in danger.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2026

On multiple occasions, after the engine auto start/stop has turned the engine off at a stop, the engine fails to restart. This leaves the car stalled in the roadway. This has led to multiple unsafe situations as traffic flow is disrupted must divert around the stalled car in the middle of the roadway. There have been no other warning signs or symptoms leading up to this issue. The vehicle has not yet been inspected, a inspection at a Honda service center is scheduled for next week.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2026

1st concern- while in an intersection the van powered off after lights on dashboard said something about a system failure. I tried restarting vehicle several times as I was really nervous being in an intersection and it finally started after a few tries. This same thing happened l, to my husband, while parked in our garage about to leave. 2 nd concern- last week on xxxi drove to [xxx] for a short vacation and while at a stop the dashboard had multiple warnings going off 1) electrical power steering system problem 2) hill start assist problem. Vehicle may roll upon brake release 3) adaptive cruise control problem 4);power steering system problem. I called roadside assistance and we waited about an hour and a half. He used a tester and said all was coming back fine but to take van to a dealer the next day. We took it to egg harbor Honda dealership and they said if the codes have cleared, which they had, then there is nothing they can do and to just take it to our dealer when we return home. I have an appointment for tomorrow at xxx at 915 am at [xxx] of Honda in abington, PA. I have pictures of all the "2nd concern" warnings. During the 1st concern I was driving and did not feel comfortable capturing the warning lights with my phone camera. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2026

I was waiting at a stop light. The idle system kicked and the vehicle turned off, as expected. Upon lifting my foot off the brake, the vehicle failed to start and the car went into park. I was unable to restart the car after holding the brake pedal down and pressing the start button multiple times. After many failed attempts, I shut off the power to the vehicle, waited a min or so and restarted the vehicle. I then put the car in drive and continued thru the intersection. This was in a busy intersection and could have easily caused an accident, but thankfully it did not. This is the 3 time this has occurred with this vehicle.
