37 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/14/2017

The whole van started vibrating ad shaking like the van was going to come apart. I checked on the NHTSA reports and a lot of this is happening. Some dealers are saying different things and Honda is not doing anything about it. It seems like the disks are to small for the weight. 1 person had racing disk and brakes put on and no problem. Other people had the brakes redone by Honda and about a few thousand miles the same thing happened. Check to see what people are saying on your web sight. ( not safe for us ) . I knew a while back Honda always had problems with the rotors. But, I thought they fixed that by now. Please do something. I just turned 40,000 miles. After 6 years. All other service has been good.

38 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

Car consumes oil-engine misses and stalls-lights come on signaling traction. Back seat slides back and forth constantly- solution on NHTSA websit is recall number 13v382000 recall date 08/27/2013 component engine summary Honda is recalling certain model year 2013 pilot 2wd and 4wd vehicles and certain model year 2013 Odyssey vehicles. During manufacturing of the engine piston, it is possible that the heat treatment process was not properly applied, resulting in the piston having an insufficient hardness level, making it more susceptible to premature wear. Consequence a worn piston may suddenly fail, causing the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. What owners should do Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine short block free of charge. The recall began on September 16, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's recall numbers are jb4 (Honda Odyssey) and jb5 (Honda pilot). Victory Honda refuses to replace short block--they claim my VIN number does not match complaint--called Honda amercan and they hung the phone up on me. Car was being driven on hwy 51 near covington (speed limit 55) I am also being told by victory Honda of jackson TN that my Odyssey falls under service bulletin 13081 (piston ring replacement) and not under bulletin service 13075 (short lock replacement). I am trying to verify this and can find no supporting data.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2016 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

Takata recall I purchased a new Honda Odyssey 2016, on January 18 of 2017. In san jose, CA. When I first received my new Honda, I noticed that the floor carpeting was not finished at the edges and started unraveling soon after. Then after several weeks (first week of February 2017) the backup camera screen began to degrade. The screen has what looks like burned spots that radiate into discoloration of mixed colors of blue, red, green, orange, purple and covers half of the screen. In many instances the screen is un-viewable, other times, the defect is just a few spots that will expand to half of the screen. Nonetheless, it is a defect in the display. Since my Honda has a backup camera for safety, this is a safety issue. I have let Honda leadership know multiple times of the problem through multiple channels of support. If the Honda screen goes out while I'm backing up and someone is injured, Honda will be complicit as they were notified of the safety defect. By the second week of may, the middle door handle paint began flaking off without any physical damage, and continues to flake away more. I have spoken with two Honda case managers. It seems that they believe their job is to convince me that Honda produces sub quality cars, which I am reluctant to believe due to my previous experience with my accord, and that the defects represent normal Honda quality. What I have been told by case managers is the following: the carpet not being finished and unraveling is a standard feature of the Odyssey. The backup camera screen defect is normal for the Odyssey. I have received multiple excuses as to why the camera is defective and how it is normal for the Odyssey to have this defect of not being able to see the full screen. None of the excuses that have been given are the same. Everyone tells me a different excuse of why I can't see the screen, and why it's normal.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

My battery light came on and a flashing "check charging system" warning. I took it to a mechanic and was told the alternator and battery were in excellent condition and there is something wrong with the sensor. We replaced the battery just to be sure and the error is still there. After extensive research we have come to know this is a common fault in the Odyssey's and has yet to be acknowledged by Honda.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/30/2016

Transmission torque converter clutch circuit p0740 and p0430 - needs new transmission. Check engine light is on traction control light is on and diagnosed error codes p0740. Transmission fails to engage, slips with no drive power. Progressively getting worst. Requires replacement of transmission as per dealer at cost of $5,900. This same problem has affected several 100,000s of 2002 to 2004 Honda Odyssey vans and other Honda models with same transmission. Honda knows about this problem with these models and still has done nothing to repair them. Honda Odyssey transmission problem is widely known and discussed at length on online Honda forums and at dealerships, to a point where nobody is willing to buy these used vehicles at bluebook market value. The cost associated with a transmission replacement is $5900, in excess of current vehicle market value. On further investigation, Honda has an active recall for Odyssey transmissions up to model year 2001. This has been in place since year 2003, when the 2002 Honda Odyssey was relatively new, hence not included in this recall, even though the transmission in 2001 and 2002 model year are same. To make matters worse Honda knew of this transmission design problem which continues past model year 2001. They used the same transmission till model year 2004. I would like Honda to recall Odyssey transmissions from 2002 to 2004 as well and repair them under warranty. Several other Honda vehicles models are also impacted by this poor transmission design. Then why has Honda not done anything to help its customers. I would like NHTSA investigate further leveraging on the 2001 Honda Odyssey recall to expedite a resolution forcing Honda to recall for repairs. Thank you.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/11/2016

Takata recall, I took my go to walmart to change the engine oil and filter and the guy that changed, notice that the tank was leaking fuel from the top of the tank, I have let me know what was happening so, I decided to took the go with my mechanic. I used a camera to see on the very top of the tank and I saw the fuel leak coming from the top inside of the tank, he said it comes from the pump fuel system, so I see why my full tank doesn't get me the miles that it suppose to get by gallon. That's why we always notice the van that smells like gas and parking when we can see the gas on the floor. I was thinking it was water coming that from the air condition. . I'm worry about the combination of heat and gas that can cause fire. I live in texas and here the tempeture is really hot.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/28/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. After the vehicle was operated, the vehicle stability assist (vsa) indicator illuminated continuously. When the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop completely. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but a diagnosis was unable to be provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unaware if the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 10v098000 (service brakes, air). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,849.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/07/2016

Recently, while driving my car on the freeway my car decideds to shut off which is scary and has happended more than once and not having the speed of control of trying to get over when you are in the fast lane. This has happened numerous of times. My main concern is how many other people have this happened to before. This is very dangerous and a serious situation because you don't know if the car behind you will slow down. I always end up pressing my emergency light right away, hoping the other drivers are paying attention because I am driving with my children in the vehicle. Five kids I take to school everyday and my main concern is there saftey at all times.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

Persistent problems with the brake system since the 2010 vsa/abs modulator recall. They system continues to have a soft pedal which requires pumpung the pedal to get effective braking, resulting in extended stop distances. The system requires periodic bleeding of the brakes despite repeated assurances from Honda dealers that the system is/was fixed correctly under the recall. The vsa modulator has now failed and Honda is quoting over $1,600 to repair the system despite ongoing service documentation illustrating the system apparently was not fixed under the recall - at least not effectively.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

During acceleration, and particularly while turning and accelerating (e. G. Left hand turns from a stop light), the vsa indicator (triangle with exclamation point) will flash repeatedly and the vehicle will decelerate (not necessarily brake) until it reaches the standard idle speed or until the wheels straighten out and the vsa indicator stops flashing. This happens when turning either right or left and leaves the vehicle exposed in intersections with unexpected inabilities to accelerate out of an intersection. It is intermittent but happens more often than not.

52 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

Traction control / abs activates while turning at 10 - 30 mph regardless of road conditions. Honda dealer indicates the yaw rate cluster sensor for abs requires replacement. This is a know defect that was recalled on 2008 and earlier Honda Odyssey products. It appears that the same part is used up to 2011. Honda says this is my problem, there is no defect.

53 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/01/2015

On February 1, 2015, vdc (vehicle dynamic control), ldw (lane departure warning), and fcw (forward collision warning) all failed simultaneously while driving conservatively at 25 mph on snow covered roads during heavy snow fall. All three systems remained failed for the remainder of the key cycle, which was approximately 45 minutes. During other driving later that day, ldw and fcw recovered, and those lights went out on the dash, but vdc remained failed. The van sat for a week, then I drove it again on Friday February, 6, 2015, for approximately 20 miles. At the very end of that trip, the vdc recovered, and the light went off. I went to germain Honda of ann arbor, mi to have the trouble codes read. They told me there were no codes stored.

54 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

My fiancée, me, and ouf 3 month old son were involved in a pretty serious roll over October 13th of this year and we had no air bags during the wreck they deployed at a delay hitting me in the head. I had already hit my head on my window shattering and breaking it. After we were upside down the passenger side air bags deployed, then when about a minute or two went by I exited my seat dazed. As I came out my seat I was met by an forgiving blow my side air bags whitch had not deployed after all thi s time. I got myself together and got my fiancée and child out the car. Honda told me wreck was my fault for improper use of the vsa ok fine but what about the air bags that shouldn't have made them not deploy. The rep was rude and said basically tuff luck and got off the phone as if he did not care it happened I could have died and lost my son due to the air bag issue what if it had went off with me getting him out? the guy said h I nda a as not at fault. I didn't know any of the information he tried to provide me after the wreck so now I'm left dealing with a lot of headaches and mental pain and told to let it go. I'm not going to really concidering court if no one else will help. It was my fault with the vsa cause I had no manual or nothing so I thought all that time we were operating it right so I take that blame but the air bags no it had nothing to do with how we were hammered after the wreck. Physically and mentally.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Going uphill on a curve at about 35 mph at 9:45pm with a slight drizzle. The tcs and engine lights came on and gears disengaged. Gear was at d4. No power to drive the minivan uphill and van started to roll backwards and downwards. When accelerator was pressed, the rpm went up to 6000-7000 rpm but the gears remain disengaged. Suspect transmission defect. Set emergency lights on and roll over to the curb. Parked and hitch a ride home. Filed a complaint with NHTSA and reported it to american Honda on 8/4/2014 as this is a very dangerous event.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the entire instrument panel warning indicators remained illuminated. The transmission began to slip gears with slight hesitation & stoped in the middle lane with no power (no lights, no beeps notning new better was instaled on 11/13). After 30 min. Jump started & on the way home the failure recurred. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of this problem on 4/1/14 at 12am est. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Also the warning for this problem is the security system going of rendemly for no reason (like doors locking or closing horn going off).

58 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

Engine vibrating violently at speeds of 35-40 mph and when rpm are between 1,500 to 2,000. The possible causes are faulty engine mounts, transmission, or engine. Honda replaced the power steering due to problems. I also replaced the run flat tires with non run flat because the run flat last only 1 year. I want to vibration to be resolved. The vibration appears to be a manufacturer defect according to online Honda owners groups.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

I received a vehicle recall notice in December 2013 and went into to have the work done at tom scott Honda in nampa id. I scheduled an appointment 12/18/13 for the repair. I received a call at approximately 5pm stating Honda dose not have the parts to correct this unsafe condition and won't until next year sometime. What are we as consumers to do when we been noticed of this unsafe condition and don't want to drive with this condition. Is the dealer responsible to proved us a car until ours is fixed and safe to drive? [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

60 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

I forgot to add the recall number on the vsa device that locks up without drivers involvement and causes accidents. I was told by Honda it is 13-098 in my former complaint today. Bottom line, if I drive it with this unsafe condition and it locks up and causes an accident, who is liable for damages etc? if I don't drive it I have no car until repaired. Does or is Honda responsible to provide us a car until ours is repaired and safe again. I received a recall notice and now tom scott Honda in nampa id said they can't repair it until sometime next year because they can't get parts until then. From my understanding this vehicle is being recalled because the brakes lock up do to the vsa device malfunctioning and causing accidents in which people are getting hurt. What is the answer?.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

Approx 10/2/13 was driving on a road I travel frequently and was accelerating when suddenly my car lost power and slowed rapidly. I thought it was a fluke then on 10/11/13 I was driving a road I travel on daily when suddenly my car slowed by about 30 mph in just a few seconds. I put my foot on the brake and realized it was already engaged and was why I was slowing down. 10/16/13 - car went to dealer to be repaired. Dealer found source codes dtc 26-1 lateral acc sensor, and dtc 27-1 steering angle sensor but could not replicate and told me they did not know what the fix was. 10/17/13 - was driving on the same road as on 10/11 - clanging/grating sound in steering column and then brakes engaged, was accelerating slowly prior to this. Slowed down almost to a stop, then slowly accelerated again. Within a quarter of a mile it happened again (was driving slower at this time b/c I was worried it would happen again), this time the triangle w/ the exclamation point on it flickered (this is the first time it came on, all other times no lights or anything). Taking it back to dealer tomorrow but unless it happens to them was told there was nothing they could do. Repeatedly told them of the investigation but they said they don't know the fix. Thankfully no one was behind me during these occurrences but if they had there would have been an accident due to how fast the car decelerated.

62 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

As I was driving on the highway going 60 mph my car started to break on its own and jerked the car back to 40 mph within seconds.

63 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

My husband, myself and my 3 children (ages 7, 4, and 1) were coming home from the phillies game at approximately 10:30 pm Saturday, September 7th, 2013. Upon entering the on ramp for a major roadway, my husband began accelerating to approximately 50 mph. He had his foot on the gas pedal, when the van braked spontaneously. In a matter of seconds, our speed decreased from 50 to 25-30. Our seatbelts all locked as we were lunged forward. There was a car directly behind us, who had to swerve into another lane to avoid rear ending us. It was as if someone slammed on the brakes, however no one did. This happen 3 or 4 more times within a 5-7 minute time frame, so we immediately pulled over to try and figure out what was happening. I immediately googled this issue and found that there was an ongoing investigation for 2007 and 2008 Odysseys for the same issue. I read that this has something to do with the vehicle stability system, so we pressed the vsa off button and drove home at a speed of 30 mph in case it happened again. No further spontaneous braking occurred once the vsa was off. I took the car into hamilton Honda this morning and spoke to service manager. They are currently evaluating the van. I am waiting to hear what they find.

64 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

In February 2008, I purchased a new Honda Odyssey minivan for my family. In the spring of 2010, I began to experience the following problem: after making a turn (right or left),during acceleration, the Odyssey's brakes will automatically engage, immediately slowing the van down. When this happens, the vehicle decelerates from 55mph to 20mph in seconds, engaging the shoulder harness of our seat-belts. Over the past three years, this has happened at least seven to ten times at various speeds and in various seasons of the year. I have returned the van to Honda at least four times. Because an indicator light does not come on and because they cannot duplicate the problem, our service department at Honda tells us there is nothing they can do. In November 2012, however, the computer registered a vsa code after one of several braking incidents. Honda then replaced the vsa module in the steering column. That seemed to have fixed the problem until two weeks ago, when we had yet another sudden halt when pulling out into traffic. When my wife took the van to Honda, the young service man blamed the vsa malfunction on tire wear and then tried to sell her a new set of tires. Honda did re-calibrate the vsa again during this visit. Today, September 2, 2013 the brakes locked down again, this time, when accelerating at a slower speed. It has been very frustrating to deal with the service department of our Honda dealership. I have read online of identical incidents. Having experienced this sudden braking, there will be serious accidents if Honda does not seek to correct this problem.

65 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

After take off from a red light vehicle started to shake and vibrate uncontrollably which caused me to quickly apply the brake and pull off the road. Took it to a reputable mechanic who discovered that rear mounts are bad an estimated $1200 repair. Honda really should recall for this I shouldn't have to shove out money for something that after research I found to be a highly reported problem on these model years.

66 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

Acceleration to 65-68mph up to approximately 73-75mph the van's front wheels enter a mild to fairly strong, alarming, shimmy felt distinctly and synchronized through the steering wheel. We had just recently purchased this van 2 months prior and ironically had 2 brand new yokohama tires on the front rims. We took a trip from midwest to up and along the eastern seaboard. Symptoms initially reasonable got stronger but appeared at the slower end of the range mentioned above. Now it has gotten aggressively worse to the point you'd think I'd need new tires, but they are in good shape with lots of meat on the treads still. I have read many blogs now that indicate very bad design on electronic motor mounts have caused this and con concur with the general populous of 2005 Honda Odyssey Mini-van owners out there that this is a critical fix that needs to be implemented by Honda. Sincerely, sam holroyd 11/2/14.

67 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While driving, the vsa warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the brake pedal felt "spongy" when depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (victory Honda of sandusky, 2301 hayes Ave, sandusky, OH 44870) where it was diagnosed that the vsa module failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part cost. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v500000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

68 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the brakes independently engaged. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no diagnostic was performed. The contact was informed that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 23,000. Kmj.

69 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

Foot on gas peddle when car accelerated by itself and then the car automatically applied the brakes and the car moved to the right. I was driving about 40 mph when this happened and it felt as though I was braking to avoid an accident. It did this about five times in the distance of about 3/4 of a mile. If someone where traveling close behind me they would have rear-ended me. The car is at the dealer now, but I guess it's called the "eva" (?) light came on. When I took it to the dealer today the light did not show. My granddaughter was with us in the car and looked up the problem on her phone while we were driving and saw that Honda Odyssey had this breaking problem. I don't know what would happen if this where to occur at highway speeds. I luckily was a few miles from home and limped home, but was on the interstate shortly before this breaking problem. Please add my vehicle to your other complaints.

70 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

I am the owner of a 06 Honda Odyssey which I bought with alittle over 35000 miles. I just took van in for service and got the bad news it needs motor mounts! had to laugh to myself thinking the dealer was full of it. No way could a vehicle with low miles possibly need motor mounts! so did some online research and found there are a tons of people having the same issue. There obviously is a bad design if so many people are having this issue. Of course when you call Honda they deny that the problem even exist! someone needs to hold the company accountable! there is a great deal of danger for our family's sake! the sad truth is it will take several families before Honda acknowledges it was a bad design!.
