4 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/26/2006

I have had my Honda Odyssey inspected several times and have complained about a clunking noise coming from underneath vehicle when it comes to a stop. I recently was told by a Honda representative (mechanic of Honda) that some of the Odyssey (2006 model) the noise is from the gas tank bumping. I was told this is just a characteristic of the Odyssey. I told them that sometimes the noise is really a loud and a hard clunk. I then was told just check and see how full the gas tank is at the time. I have researched and learned others have complained about the same problem. I don't how thiscould not be a safety issue when gas is involved? I think they should be doing something to correct this problem.

American Honda motor CO. , inc. Honda automobile customer service 1919 torrance boulevard mail stop: 500 - 2n - 7d torrance, CA 90501-2746 claim number: n012003-081100497 dear Honda, we are writing to you in order to put you on notice of a potential vehicle defect with my new 2003 Honda Odyssey, VIN: 5fnrl18033b104657. After having the vehicle just 6 weeks the vehicle experienced the following problems: 1. Brakes began to get softer and would not engage till almost to the floor 2. While waiting at a signal the car engine appears to be revving up and shaking 3. Rattling noise emanating from the muffler linkage 4. Low fuel warning light comes on when gage is still at â¼ tank. Of grave concern is an incident that occurred last Friday, August 8, 2003 while my wife was taking my son to celebrate his 6th birthday at summer camp. This is what happened: after making a turn on a steep hill my wife proceeded down the hill. While going down the hill the brakes completely failed to operate and the following lights illuminate on the dash , battery, oil, door open warning lights. The engine was still on and she had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. We were very fortunate that there was no accident, the vehicle was not going fast and we were able to bring the vehicle to a stop. My wife was extremely frightened and upset by the incident. She was almost in a very serious accident! we had the vehicle towed to beaverton Honda who advises us thus far they could not duplicate the problems. You can surely understand our concerns with this vehicle, especially if there appears to be nothing wrong with it. We would like Honda of America to take the following steps to protect our family and it's brand: 1. Provide us with a loaner Odyssey until& (2) 2. Exchange our Odyssey with the same exact vehicle from a different factory or fully refund our purchase.

10 Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/31/2003

I drive a 2001 Honda Odyssey and I have 50,000 miles. Now I have to replace my gas tank and alternator. When I call the manufacture they say I had to drive the car to a dealer my car was already at a repair shop. Tank was broken in half and all my gas was leaking. I had been driving around for who knows how long with this problem I drive four children at all times. When I was going to purchase this van, I did a lot of research and I choose this vehicle because it was the most reliable car. I am very upset with the fact that I have to put so much money into this car to replace parts that should still be in great condition.

11 Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/12/2003

My 2002 Honda Odyssey has some features I was not told about. Every time you step on the brakes in a new direction, forward or reverse you hear a loud clunking sound as the brakes engage the rotors. I believe this is a hazard as well as an annoyance. I don't believe the brakes are engaging as soon as you step on the peddle. Their p. R. Spin says they manufacturer room for heat expansion in the brake pads. I have never ever had a vehicle that exhibits this problem. The second problem is their noisy gas tank sloshing that is very prominent in the vehicle. This one is more of an annoyance.

14 Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/02/2001

This happens mostly when the vehicle is started from a standstill to move out of the driveway, for example. Once underway, the problem is no longer noticeable. I have contacted the service department at the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. I was told that this is a normal occurance in this vehicle as it was designed that way. Honda says there is no need for concern. I feel this is a concern. I purchased this vehicle after many months of research and feel that I was not fully informed by the literature that has been published. No where was it written that this was a common occurence in this vehicle. Had it been, I may have considered a different vehicle to suit my needs. No safety defect described.

16 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/22/2000

New model year in '99. Gas tank is plastic. Has a "minor" scratch down the length of the tnk, cause unknown. Resulted in seepage from the fuel tank. Nticec strong odor of gasoline and brought to dealer (not where originally purchased). Asvised by dealer tht was due to a road hazard and tank needed to be replaced. I am concerned about the ease with which the tank was damaged and concerned that the next time there might be a fire or fatality. There is not a shield or other preventative mechanism on the roadside, underside of the vehicvle to prevent this from re-occurring and the visible damage is negligible. . . Since is a new model year, I dont want to be the one who makes the nightly news as the first fire fatality. !! the dealer so far has not conceeded that there is a design problem. Rather has quoted their engineers as having said that this van has passed all government tests ant there is a shield but is located on the van side not the underside of the tank. Frankly this does not make me feel comfortable that it will offer much in the way of protection should this re-occur. Again, the damage is barely visible to the eye. A slight scratdh taht is not deep enough to cause a leak, bu rather a seeping of gas. No puncture, dents, bangs etc appear on the tank. . . Help! thanksdheidps thebrrbveuaaha road hasseod.
