37 Wheel problem of the 2016 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

I bought a new 2016 Honda Odyssey with continental contiprocontacts p235/65/r17 that came on the vehicle when purchased. I have 14,537 mile on them when passenger rear tire completely blew out both inner and outer side walls going approx. 35mph on city street with 64 degree outside air temp. I have never seen a tire do such a thing. I would never use these tires again. I feel that these tires jeopardize my families safety. The issue is not Honda it with continental as they did not stand behind their product stating that I didn't have road hazard insurance which is a scam in its self. Tell me why I need to purchase additional insurance because they manufacture poor quality products. I have never had problems in my 30 years of driving will stay with michelin.

Driving on i64 near louisville, ky at approximately 70 mph when rear tire on driver side blew out. The tires had 23,000 miles on them.

39 Wheel problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

The front left axle is wobbling and begins at higher speeds. The boot on he wheel has become cracked and is now leaking. Had the car inspected and the boot is definitely leaking and their is definite play in the axle. My sister has the same van and hers did the exact same thing. Very dangerous. Feel like this should be a manufacturing warranty issue since I have found several other Honda Odyssey owners who have the same issues. Happens on city and highway, makes knocking noise when turning even at lower speeds.

42 Wheel problem of the 2015 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Had purchased my 2015 Honda Odyssey in the year of 2015. When I first went in for a first service my car have a light saying check engine, check vsa, check ldw, check fdw and once a while my shake when we are on the road. We told the service people at the dealership to have a look at it but they said nothing wrong with it.

45 Wheel problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Tpm(tire pressure monitor) light indicating low pressure when there is no error. Dealer (san marco, texas) claims the issue is due to cell phone charger interference with tpm system. Dealer claims Honda is aware of the issue and sent out a service bulletin to limit the cell phone charger to less than twenty minutes to prevent the tpm fault code and dash light from being set. In my professional option, Honda America has what is known as a 'conductive electro-magnetic interference" issue with their system. Based on what has been communicated, I believe there is an elementary design flaw with their system that allows either the transmitted energy or internal generated signals of cell phone to be coupled into their system using the battery lines.

46 Wheel problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

When doing down hill on the fwy about 65 miles the brakes start to shake and vibrate. Which is very scary. I have read online everyone is having the same issue problem and Honda is refusing to fix it. They stated the router needs to be resurface but this is only 16000 miles on the car. . Which makes no sense.

47 Wheel problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

Autopark Honda replaced drive shafts because there was a popping sound coming while slow turns. I drove away and within 2 miles, all hell broke loose. There was a tremendous amount of metallic noise coming from the car and I nearly lost total control of the car. I could break I think. But steering and engine power were dangerously affected. Me and my kids would have been killed. I suspect the parts used were not of proper quality or the workmanship was poor. I can't decide. The dealership has been perfect with other repairs so I doubt it could have been workmanship but it is hard for me to say. People make mistakes.

48 Wheel problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

My 6 month pregnant wife was driving our van from work to home and was on a state highway driving at approximately 55 mph. The right rear tire burst out catastrophically causing the vehicle to go out of control for a brief moment before she managed to pull over to the shoulder. The vehicle has less than 15 k miles and is less than 2 years old. The tires are continental make that came with the new car. The vehicle (and the tires) has been maintained as required by the car maker and the last tire rotation and re balance was performed approximately 1 month prior to the incident. We strongly believe this is a major manufacturing defect with the tire and this was a safety related event that could potentially have caused a crash. We have further details of tire if needed.

49 Wheel problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

While backing up slowly (appx. 2 mph), the vehicle's right rear wheel made light contact with the curb. The steel steering knuckle (often called the spindle) for the rear passenger-side wheel sheered off, making it inoperable. This was witnessed by bystanders who can attest that the incident occurred at a very low speed. Three mechanics have stated that such a failure should never happen at any speed, in any situation. Nevertheless, american Honda motor CO. Will not investigate the possibility that the factory-installed knuckle was faulty and will not tell me how many other similar failures have occurred. They refuse to cover any portion of the cost of what others have classified as an unprecedented failure.

50 Wheel problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

American Honda motor company - manufacturers defect with the van's rear suspension, resulting in the van's alignments being uncorrectable since the date of purchase. American Honda has known about this alignment and suspension defect issue with the 2014 Honda Odyssey's and has chosen to hide the design defect from the public. Honda dealers know there is an issue but there are no authorize american Honda oem certified fixes to the problem. The Honda dealers defer, that there is nothing they can do until Honda issues a fix to the suspension/alignment issue. The result, unsafe vehicle and the added continual expenses that are a direct result of american Honda's concealment of the issues with the vans. Quick searches online, document many other Honda Odyssey owners with reported identical issues, as well as other Honda owners (keegan v. American Honda class action certified). American Honda's own actions confirm and indicated that they recognized and acknowledge the issues I presented with the van and my claim. American Honda directed me to bring the van to a Honda dealer for inspection autopark Honda. The van was reviewed, determined defective, and unfixable with any readily available oem Honda parts as verified by a recognized Honda certified ase master mechanic. If the van was manufactured to american Honda's own oem specifications and standards, then any oem Honda parts would readily be able to be replaced with the defective oem rear suspension parts and correct the alignment issues at once. This is not the case. The vehicle by american Honda's own admission is not fixable with any oem Honda parts. American Honda's own findings confirm, validate, verify and support the facts that the vans inherent manufacturer's defects exists in the rear suspension of the van and validates my initial and open claim since 6-7-14 inv hocs332080, at 317 miles.

51 Wheel problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

While driving at about 55-60 mph a flat occurred. My wife pulled over after about 200 yards. I arrived a few minutes later. Looking at the tire and rim, it is apparent that a hard object both punctured and damaged the rim. This is not the point of concern as it seems customary for a flat tire. However, two large (15x3 inch) pieces of the rim broke off. This seemed extremely unusual after such a puncture and short followup drive. I have never ben aware of such an occurrence. When I called the Honda dealer, the service person had not heard of it either.

52 Wheel problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

The tire pressure monitoring system warning came on after seasonal wheel/tire change by tire dealer. Each time that the tire dealer tried to program the Honda system it malfunctioned after approximately 24 hours of operation. All parts are of Honda manufacture. During the periods of that tpms flashed on the instrument panel one has no way of knowing if tires are safely inflated. I was forced to drive over 200 miles over 3 days in order to reach a Honda dealer. The dealer "found tpms sensors were not programmed to vehicle. . . Reprogrammed sensors". I understand that Honda is unique among auto manufacturers in it's tpms system not being serviceable by the tire industry that the public must rely on for safe operation of Honda cars.

Steering wheel is shaking really bad and pulling to the right.

55 Wheel problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

Aftermarket automotive rims failed after approximatley 30 days of normal driving. Moda md9 or md9610 were listed as a recommeneded winter driving rim by a large online retailer out of south bend indiana. After a short period of time noticed strong vibration issues. An approved tire installer reviewed the rims and stated all 4 rims were egg shapped and could not be balanced. Rim runout specs out of range. Egg shaped condition creates steering wheel vibration and an unsafe driving condition. Retailer through their product support, denied any product issues and stated the only way wheels could have deformed was through abnormal use. All 4 rims have been replaced with the same model and have failed in the same manner. Original equipment rims used on this Honda Odyssey have not had any issues over serveral years of use. Feel the problems are directly related to defective wheels or rims.

57 Wheel problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Incident date: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 approximately 1pm temperature: approximately 55 degrees road condition: dry tires: goodyear assurance fuel max installed: September 23, 2009 miles on tires at time of incident: 49,051 estimated tread life left: 4/32 number of persons in vehicle: 2 adults, 3 children while on a local shopping trip including travel on an interstate highway the right rear tire of the vehicle blew out. We had entered the interstate highway and had traveled about 5 miles. While passing a semi and in the left lane of the highway, at 70 mph, the right rear tire blew out. The vehicle started to vibrate and the tire was slapping the underside of the fender. Control of the vehicle was maintained and the vehicle was slowed down and moved to the center median. When traffic cleared, the vehicle was moved safely to the right shoulder of the highway. After exiting the vehicle, inspection of the right rear tire revealed a total blow out. The other members exited the vehicle and remained in the grass away from the vehicle while the tire was changed. When the tire was changed we continued to the next exit and used back roads to return home. New tires were purchased on Tuesday, oct 23, 2012. The tire specialist indicated that the probable cause of the blow out was hitting a pot hole.

58 Wheel problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

When vehicle shifts from 2nd to 3rd, there is a delay(grind). A and b pillars are week and produce a whistling noise starting at 35 mph. The rear bench (the bigger part of the split bench) will not latch down to the floor. Pax run flat tires are deflating with no age or puncture related problems. All of these are safety hazards. Rear lift gate struts failed and will not lift up rear door and can cause the door to crash down.

59 Wheel problem of the 2009 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/12/2012

The fault description recently reported in NHTSA campaign number 13t006000 for michelin tire failure for a series of tires is exactly that I reported in complaint odi number 10470716 last year. I included photographs of the 235/60r17 tires, two of which had failed, and the other two were showing degradation damage. The 235/60r17 tires should be included in the recall. Thanks,.

60 Wheel problem of the 2009 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/10/2012

The van has michelin 235/60r17 tires purchased new in 7/4/2009. One tire failed 3/5/12 with sidewall rupture at 30,500 miles; I have a photo of the damaged michelin tire area. Tire had rapid air leak - essentially a blowout; was going 20 mph. Second tire failed on 8/10/12 with leak at 35,700 miles. Tire had sidewall leak deflating tire in 10-12 minutes; was going 15 mph. Second tire id is 235/60r17 102t 1391h3mnx 5008. Have photo of tire leak area. Second failed tire and two remaining michelin tires on van appear to have dry rot on sidewalls. Remaining tires have same id and 5008 and 0209 at end. In both cases, tire was not hit and shows no damage other than sidewall rubber degrading. Tread depth is good. Have photos showing dry rot degradation. I have no confidence in two remaining michelin tires and am replacing remaining tires on van with the second michelin failed tire.

61 Wheel problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

Horrible, horrible, horrible! I had done a lot of research on what type of used Mini van was the best on the market. Honda kept popping up, so I went and purchased a 2006 Honda Odyssey touring. I loved it until I got a flat tire. I took it to discount tire store (the same place we took our Toyota). That is where we informed that we have the pax tire system. From there it's been a disaster! I've called michelin and the Honda dealership, nobody will do anything to make this situation right! it should be disclosed to buyers before they purchase a car with this tire system on it. The tires cost 300$ a piece and I was informed by michelin that they only last up to 36k miles. The tires that I have right now, still should have 50% of their life, however my rear tire now has a "bubble" on it. It is not safe to drive! shame on Honda and michelin for not doing the right thing! I will never purchase another Honda or michelin tire!.

62 Wheel problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

Front wheel bearing went bad at 40000. Had it replaced at the dealership at cost to me. Dealer said it was the right front that was replaced even though the feel of the problem was felt under the left front driver side. Seems very early for a wheel bearing to go bad. Logging this in case it is a broader issue with this model.

63 Wheel problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/26/2012

Going south on hwy 5 from just outside sacrament, (by freeport) we struck something not visible in the road and the vehicle warned us we had a flat and not to exceed 50 mph. Our minivan was equipped with michelin pax system run flat tires and no spare. We pulled of the hwy at elk grove and called the local Honda dealer. It was almost 5pm and they said could not help until Tuesday. The manual said we could go 125 miles with a flat tire and our home was less than 60 miles away so we put on the cruise control at 50 mph on hwy 5, then hwy 12 west, and then hwy 160 south. Just north of the antioch bridge the front left tire shredded and we were stranded in the middle of nowhere for over an hour until aaa provided assistance. I contacted michelin and Honda on Tuesday following and michelin offered to pay 30% of the cost of a new tire but nothing towards the cost of removing the tire and putting a new one on. Honda offered nothing. I rejected michelin's offer and they raised it to 50 % and I still rejected it and we have taken the vehicle to a tire store to replace all four wheels and tires because we feel the run flat system is defective and dangerous.

64 Wheel problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/20/2012

2012 Honda Odyssey has a shuttering at various speeds. This seems most prevalent around 40+ miles per hour, however, it can happen at varying speeds. I have set an appointment with Honda dealer (lehigh valley Honda for Tuesday, January 31. I was informed by the service consultant that this is a known issue, but that there is no fix for this at this time. I filed a complaint with Honda motor corporation regarding this issue. This van is approximately two weeks old and experiencing this shuttering problem. You can feel the vibrations in the steering wheel and in the drivers seat. Additionally, you can hear it as long as you are in a quiet environment. Please investigate as other consumers seem to be experiencing this same issue regarding model years 2011 & 2012. Thank you.

65 Wheel problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

66 Wheel problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

67 Wheel problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

We purchased four new firestone tires in July 2010. This is a second car for our family and is not utilized much (<8,000 miles per year). In may of 2011, the right rear tire suffered tread separation as we were travelling on the interstate at 70 miles per hour. We had three children in the car at the time (one of which is disabled) and suffered damage to the vehicle. The tire was replaced and firestone national center did nothing and offered nothing in terms of help. They didn't even want the tire model number for any database. They didn't even ask if we were ok. Then in July of 2011, coming home from vacation with the kids in the vehicle, unbelievably the left rear tire suffered tread separation while travelling at 70 mph. We went off the road and again had damage to the vehicle (at least now the back end of the car is symmetrical with the damage). This time, firestone opened a claim and asked for both of the tires back however, they have yet to send us the claim forms. Again, no concern on the safety of the family. The tires we purchased new were fr 380 p225/60 r16 97s tires with a manufacture date of 4908 and 4608.

68 Wheel problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

While driving on the freeway with my two children, the two front wheel bearings of my 2007 Honda Odyssey broke! although I was able to continue to the side of the road, the car was not in any shape to continue. I took my Honda to the original dealer, herb chambers Honda in seekonk massachusetts. At that time, they mentioned that a broken wheel bearing is extremely dangerous and we should not be driving the vehicle. The technician said that the wheel could lock up or come completely dislodged from the frame. In addition, he assured me that my driving did not cause the break and that is a clear defect in the product. Still, because the car had 61,622 miles, I was charged 700. 00 to fix the bearings. I am asking nets officials to investigate Honda for the wheel bearing failures on all Honda Odyssey minivans for the following reasons: thousands if not, millions effected - according to thousands of Honda owners on the internet who have experienced the same issue, the wheel bearings break anywhere from 1200k (just off the lot) to 75k. Safety – when you continue driving a vehicle with bad bearings, the symptoms will worsen and safety risks increase. The steering wheel will become harder to control. If this happens, navigating and steering will be difficult. A wheel will become loose and move around in the wheel arch, causing damage to hub and brakes. If the wheel remains unstable, it will eventually detach from the vehicle while you are driving. Abs issues - wheel bearings contain sensors that send a signal to the anti-lock braking system (abs) when the tires spin or skid. Continuing to drive a vehicle with bad bearings can cause its abs system to fail. When bearings are faulty, the abs signal light usually appears on the dash indicating the disablement of the abs system. This generally does not cause any interruptions in regular braking; however, it will suspend the abs system's aid in emergency situations or while braking on wet or slippery surfaces.

69 Wheel problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/19/2011

I received a letter from the american Honda dated summer 2011, regarding the warranty extension of the "steering wheel is hard to turn at low speeds and engine rpm. " the term is up to 7 years or 100,000 miles. I bought my van in August of 2006, however, since I drive almost 100 miles a day (home to work), I have more than 100,000. Here is my concern, I have been complaining about this said problem (regarding the steering wheels is hard to turn) in the Honda dealer in corona even before receiving this letter, but all they said that it could be related to cold weather. Later on about 4 months ago, they said the power steering pump needs to be replace. Right after I received this letter from american Honda, I gave them a call and told them that I'm already having this problem before, and that this is a known problem, but I didn't do anything about it because I was broke. I asked them if I can bring my van to the dealer to have them replace the power steering pump eventhough my mileage now is more than what they want which is 100,000 miles. They said, they can't help me because they are strict on warranty extension. And, since my mileage is now 165,000 miles, they can't help me even if the years qualifies me. They said to contact my local dealer where I bought the car and where I bring my car for repair and see if they can give me a discount to fix it. The point is it is not fair for them to set a limit on their warranty because this is an obvious factory defect. They should have covered the Odyssey 2006 regardless of the mileage because based on this letter, it is obvious that there is a lot of complains about it. I do not have the money to fix this problem, but I am hoping that by reporting this, we can consider this product defect as a recall.

70 Wheel problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

The wheel bearings of my 2007 model year Honda Odyssey failed while driving with my familly in the highway (loud humming/grinding noise). My research has shown that the wheel bearings are failing at all mileage ranges in all 2005 and 2007 model years Honda Odysseys (15k, 30k, 45k, 70k and 80k). This is clearly a safety matter that can cause a crash and/or death to the driver and/or passengers if the wheel bearing or bearings come off the vehicle. This is a very popular family vehicle is the united states and Honda have sold millions of Honda Odyssey in this country. The Honda dealer service advisor communicated to me that the front wheel of my Honda Odyssey was in danger of coming off (this is safety matter). I repaired the vehicle at the dealer and it cost me over $1000. 00 to replace the left front and rear wheel bearings of my vehicle. Furthermore, the wheel alignment needed to be done by the dealer technician after the wheel bearings were replaced on my vehicle. I asked Honda to cover the cost of the repair and Honda headquarters customer service department declined to pay because my vehicle was out warranty. According to Honda the wheel bearings come with 5 years or 60,000 miles warranty. My vehicle was over that limit. I am asking NHTSA officials to investigate Honda for the wheel bearing failures on all Honda Odyssey minivans. I have been a loyal Honda customer for years. I take my Honda vehicles to only Honda dealers for services and for Honda to decline the reimbursement for a clear safety matter is not right. I truly hope Honda headquarters in torrance, California does the right thing and makes the right decision in supporting its loyal customers and continue standing behind its vehicles and products by recalling the Honda Odyssey minivans before NHTSA starts an investigation. In conclusion, this is a safety matter that Honda must address by recalling the wheel bearings before any one gets in an accident or crash.
