1 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2005

I have owned the 1999 Honda Passport for 3 years. At about 50,000 miles, the SUV would shift hard form the lower gear to first. So hard if fact, that others in cars nearby noticed. Recently, the SUV was having problems shifting during acceleration. At first it was slip, but quickly worsened. Upon accelerating from a stopped position or when shifting from a higher gear down (especially on turns) the gear seems to slip and there is a jolt. I took the SUV to be diagnosed. On two separate occasions, it has taken several days for diagnosis. First diagnosis was the drive shaft, problem did not go away. Then it was the type of oil in the differential. Went away for a day, then returned. Finally, had the transmission rebuilt. Problem went away. I spent over $4000 on these repairs and believe that this is a significant issue with this vehicle.
