25 problems related to automatic emergency braking have been reported for the 2019 Honda Passport. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2019 Honda Passport based on all problems reported for the 2019 Passport.
Even after recall repairs the vehicle continues to randomly display error messages with vehicle systems while driving. It has been cleared several times and battery changed but continues to return. This model has serious issues with the electrical components.
The lane keep assist camera internally faulted and intermittent tries to work but will immediately fault out. Lights will show for adaptive cruise, lane departure, and collision avoidance. Code shows internal fault and is shown in bulletin to replace. Happened begining of 2025 like most other people.
My front windshield camera. Yes because of my camera having glitches my car would randomly brake no my front camera won't work at all and my dashboard looks like a christmas light show with all the warning lights it has been confirmed by a independent service center no no,no warning lamps no messages or other symptoms of the problem prior. To the failure everything happened at all once on oct3 2025.
The cmbs alerts braking despite there being no obstacles in front or around the vehicle. Also, the at stop lights when the engine shuts off, on several occasions the car has completely turned off and will not let you do anything (place in park or drive) until you manually start it again.
At random times, the dashboard will show "brake" repeatedly when there is nothing obstructing the road or any other vehicles nearby. We have also experienced at least a half dozen times when the car will flash that and engage the brakes stopping us in the middle of traffic. The braking is abrupt and will yank you harshly in the seatbelt. I have taken it to the dealership twice and Honda has said nothing can be found in the computer and "the next time it happens to take a pic or video". That is impossible to do and is now happening enough where I considering getting rid of the vehicle but hate to pass that on to another person. When happening in traffic, I cant imagine explaining to emergency response that I was rear ended when the car smashed on the brakes but Honda has no way of confirming that. I dont know what else to do and am grateful to see others are experiencing this and informing you all of this safety issue!.
The idle-stop system engages as expected when the vehicle comes to a stop, but the engine fails to restart when I release the brake pedal. This leaves me stranded in traffic and vulnerable to collisions, especially in high-traffic areas like intersections. The car has completely stalled and remains frozen for at least 3 minutes. Instrument panel lights up and says to depress pedal fully and press the start button. Another message says something about being in neutral and then to put it in park. I'm doing what it says and I cannot get the car to start. I have a green light and I'm stuck in an intersection where opposing traffic has a green light as well. People are honking at me and nervous because of the unpredictibilty of my car. - frequency: this occurs at least 1x/month for the past 65 months (lifetime of the vehicle) - conditions: occurs during normal driving conditions, typically in stop-and-go traffic. - impact: this issue has resulted in significant delays and near-misses with other vehicles, posing a clear safety hazard. The vehicle has been evaluated by a Honda dealer regarding idle-stop system malfunction specifically on the following dates October 1st, 2020, February 2nd 2023, March 16th, 2023 may 11th 2023, November 7th 2024 and January 9th 2025. The vehicle was found to be in normal working order and multiple times I was told to disengage the auto idle stop (press the button) to prevent that from happening. There was a recall for idle-stop software update which failed to repair the issue. This has been a persistent problem and the above dates by no means reflects the only times that the engine fails to restart after auto-stopping.
The automatic braking system will activate at various times shaking the wheel and applying the brakes. This happens when there is nothing in front of the vehicle.
The automatic emergency braking system engages in times when it is not appropriate to do so. The vehicle will flash the “brake” warning light on the dashboard, will shake the steering wheel, apply light braking, and in a few instances has applied hard braking. We have been unable to determine a specific trigger for this issue. The vehicle will engage this feature on strait roads with no other vehicles or obstructions on the road. It has happened during both rainy and sunny conditions. The vehicle has also exhibited this behavior when going up and down hills both with and without other vehicles present. The vehicle will do this sometimes when other vehicles enter our lane at a safe distance and at low speeds, at or below 30 mph. The vehicle has also done this at highway speeds of 55+ mph both with and without other vehicles or obstructions in the roadway. We have experienced this while driving curvy roads both with vehicles passing in the opposite lane of traffic and when no other vehicles are present. The feature appears to randomly engage at all speeds between 15+ mph to 70+ mph with or without vehicles on the roadway. It also doesn’t appear to matter if a vehicle is in our lane, an adjacent lane, or the opposite lane of traffic. This issue was identified and has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased in October 2023. The issue happens at least 1 time most days the vehicle is driven but can range between 1 time and 3+ times each day. The vehicle is driven consistently 30+ miles each day with occasional trips of 300-500 miles in a single day. The other issue we have noticed is the rear cross traffic warning. We have noticed something’s this will engage when no other traffic or obstacles are present. We have also observed this feature failing to engage when a vehicle or obstacle is present. This issue does not happen often but has been observed enough that is has come to my attention as a potential issue.
The vehicle has made multiple abrupt emergency brake activations in non-emergyncy situations. Nearly causing a crash multiple times. It's my opinion this system is severely flawed and extremely dangerous - not only to me but anyone around me. Shame on Honda for allowing this system to drive on our roads.
The automatic emergency braking system has gone off multiple times on my 2019 Honda Passport since purchasing it in February 2021. Only a few of those times was necessary, the rest have either been an annoyance or have created more of a hazard when driving. This was especially true when the braking system dramatically reduced the speed of the Honda Passport while traveling on an interstate highway, passing a truck while additional vehicles were traveling at the same speed behind me. I lost full control of the car for a minute and which only exacerbated the situation. I’m very fortunate a crash did not occur in that moment. I have never had this component looked at, but have only had the car serviced at Honda dealerships and have had the camera re calibrated a few times now. There were no warning signs, a giant “brakes” flashes on the dash once the system has been triggered into action, but there’s no way I’m aware to stop it once it’s been triggered, there’s only the option to turn the entire system off ahead of it being triggered. This issue has been happening as long as I can remember, but is generally bad on high traffic multi lane roads and single lane roads where traffic is consistent from the other direction.
The monocular camera, part 36160-tgs-a13 failed. This camera drives the vast majority of safety features on the Honda Passport. Those affected features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, parking collision warning, automatic high beam control, and more. This vehicle has not been in a collision or subjected to any reason that would disable the camera. This camera, and apparently a significant number of others of this same model number appear to simply be defective. American Honda (and the dealers) indicate that the part is backordered with no eta for restock, yet oem part suppliers have the part readily available for one day delivery at $600. A quick search of the internet reveals this part failure is common, and the dealer response of backorder with no eta seems to be a standard response. The one dealer I dealt with indicated they are personally handling 2 such cases at this exact moment. Given the more than 1,000 Honda dealerships in the country, this indicates that it is more than possible that over 2,000 newer model Honda vehicles are driving on the roads throughout the country with the vast majority of their safety features disabled. Dtc code provided by the dealer is u3000-49. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by norm reeves Honda dealer at their huntington beach California location. The resulting component failure causes nearly every warning light on the vehicle to turn on.
I have had 4 instances of driving on the highway that my vehicle applied the brakes automatically. My safety was put at risk because in those instances I was driving at highway speeds and the brakes were applied on their own with no obstruction in front of me. Someone could have rear ended me. I am not able to reproduce the problem on command, but it has occurred multiple times. The car has not been inspected for this issue. The only warning I received was the alert that gets triggered when the brakes apply automatically. I do recall that in 3 of the 4 times the incident has occurred, my right turn signal was applied.
My Honda Passport will trigger false forward collision alarms randomly, and for no reason. As the brake warning appears, the steering wheel vibrates. This happens for no apparent reason. It is distracting and if the brakes apply, very dangerous. My dealership says this is normal. It is not normal or safe.
When driving, a red brake warning light will flash across dash display and the steering wheel will start shaking. Sometimes vehicle will start braking on its on. This has happened multiple times, randomly and with no obstructions in front, or even close to the car. Scary when it occurs.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The contact stated that on one occasion, the failure caused the vehicle to come to a complete and abrupt stop. The brake warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact also stated that the steering wheel was shaking with an unknown chime heard. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the braking system needed to be recalibrated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it remained awaiting diagnostic and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
We are experiencing frequent phantom braking like the 2019 accords and crvs and believe the 2019 Passport should be included in the upcoming recall.
The collision warning flashes and brakes are sometimes activated for no reason. Almost as if it sees a phantom vehicle. Other times this happens when there is opposing traffic in the other lane but not in my path. This was reported to Honda of kirkland during a routine service. I was told no problem was found and no activations of the system were recorded in the car’s computer.
The auto braking system comes on randomly without warning and for no reason. A warning flashing brake. Brake comes on, you can feel the brakes grab slightly. It's very unnerving in traffic and slows the car slightly. . . . It hasn't cause the car to stop yet. When I took it to the dealership they "couldn't find anything wrong with it and couldn't get it to do the same thing" I explained that it was happening randomly, that's why they couldn't get it to duplicate. This is definitely a safety hazard when driving and distracting the drive from their attention on the road. Their seems to be something wrong with the sensors but they don't seem to know what to do or are willing to acknowledge the problem. This has happened at least a dozen different times since I bought the car 4 months ago.
The automatic brake system locked up when the vehicle sensed a truck traveling on the driver's side of the vehicle. It then caused the vehicle to veer to the right and swipe a curb. This caused wheel and tire damage on both front and rear passenger side. There were two flat tires.
The vehicle’s adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking system are flawed. The vehicle will give false collision alerts (large brake sign on screen and shaking steering wheel) when oncoming traffic is approaching to the left of you. Both vehicles are in their respective lanes. Also, the adaptive cruise control will slow down or suddenly brake the vehicle when a vehicle to your left is driving slower. There are no vehicles directly in front of you. Both vehicles again are in their respective lanes. I have video evidence of this that I can provide. I have made Honda and dealership personnel aware of this. No one representing Honda has been able to resolve the issues. One service manager said he can’t do anything to fix it until Honda releases an update, meaning this person acknowledges there is an issue. Another service staff stated to me that his wife’s Honda pilot has the same issue and implied I shouldn’t worry about it. This is a serious flaw and I expect Honda to release an update to address this issue. This issue has been occurring since I took delivery of the vehicle (November 2019 with less than 1000 miles) and has been ongoing until present. The date and mileage listed is one of the most recent occurances.
When driving the brake warning light will flash even if I car or object is in front of the car and then just go away or at times the light flash and the brakes will lock this happens on the city street or highway.
The automatic brake goes on and off randomly. It has caused an accident in my vehicle and also two flat tires and wheel damage. The sensors will make it brake on a smooth road with no vehicles nearby. It will also brake in the rain while turning a corner. It has put my safety at risk. I have a child under 1 year old that should this brake system lock up on me and cause an accident with my child in the car it could pose serious harm. This has been an issue since I first received the vehicle.
System gives false positives and tries to slam on brakes with nothing in front. This happens quite often so I have to disable the system but still get the warning frequently.
Very frequent false warnings for collision braking system. Bushes, road signs, roundabouts, oncoming traffic, etc. Will false trigger the system. Many owners reporting false warnings or braking but no fix. Distracting and dangerous when it happens. Once the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason due to a car turning off the roadway far ahead at low speeds. The system is distracting and could in some circumstances apply brakes when no reasonable threat is present. Careful driver who leaves distance, and I now disable this supposed safety system to be safer from it.
Autobraking system incorrectly warns and sometimes brakes when oncoming cars are in their own lane and not in my lane. It’s super scary and dangerous. I was told by the dealer that they can’t really do anything about it. Crazy.
