4 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 09/03/2002

This is the third Honda I have owned, but the only one with problems. The first two had over 300,000 miles combined. . . . No problems. This really isn't even a Honda, it is an isuzu. When I purchased the car, I was told that all parts inside and out were made by Honda and that isuzu supplied only the seatbelts and the actual car frame. I have had the a/c blower replaced two times, the first time was under warranty. After the first replacement, the cd player stopped working and then the car started experiencing electrical problems. When I turned on the blinker, the a/c went out along with the auto transm. Spent over $150 plus cost of rental car and Honda said the probl. Was with the trailer hitch. I did not pay for repair. . . They wanted over $600. . . However, when the car was given back, mysteriously the cd player begain working and so did the a/c. . . Checked and they replaced the blower (although they said they didn't do anything) as soon as I picked up the car. . . No more problems during that time. A year later (no longer under warranty) the a/c blower works intermittenly, the transmission today just started to manually shift itself from 2 to 3rd gear and makes a hard clunking sound. A few months ago, it was shifting itself from drive to neutral or low and then back to drive. Also, the fuel sending unit is inoperable. . . The tank registers empty and the light flashes constantly. Heard this is a known problem for isuzu rodeos and Passports. I even work with someone who has a 99 rodeo and has the same problems, but his fuel sending unit went out while he was under warranty. The Honda dealer down here wants over $600 for repair. I feel mislead. I purchased Honda due to success on my other two Hondas. I could have saved over $10,000 and purchased an isuzu rodeo, but I thought by purchasing a Honda, I was getting a reliable SUV. I will never purchase another Honda/isuzu again. . . I have gotten no support from the Honda dealers. Too many problems with this model!.

5 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 07/30/2002

Abs system has been a problem since we bought this truck. The last time it was in the repair shop at Honda dealer it was for the recall of 7/2003 regarding the changing of the abs system after the work was done we had the abs light coming on and the brakes engaging on dry payment. Now they tell us that the wire harness under the truck is broken and making the abs system come on . Thjis repair will cost close to 300. 00 dollars to fix. The service man at the dealership told us that it was broken because of the way it was designed . Since we have owned this truck it has been into the Honda dealshipper a total of 8 times in regards to the abs system. We have also had the whole horn/airbag system replaced (under the goodwill warrenty) and after that had to have the fuel pump assembly replaced which we had to pay over 300. 00 dollars for at 38253miles just over warrenty.

8 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1998 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 03/20/2000

Problem with brake system of Honda Passports. There is a delay in stopping and car glides forward several feed even after brakes are applied. Had this problem ever since purchasing the car but not as bad. Always was told it is the nature of abs brakes to do that! took it to the dealership 3 times and they said they could not similiate the problem and that there was nothing wrong with the brakes. Took it to an independant and he was able to find out the same problem with brakes in 2 hours! took it back to the Honda dealership and they suddenly acknowledged that they had heard about the same problem from other customers. In each case were not able to pinpoint the problem, and basically Honda not doing anything about it. Then saw the other complaint reports in mycarstats. Com and noticed this has been an ongoing and existing problem with Honda. This is a serious safety issue and Honda is deceiving the public by not being honest about its existence.

9 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1998 Honda Passport

My abs light is always on and it has been into the Honda dealer and they could not locate the problem. I have had a to use my brakes in a quick manner and have found that they lock up. I have two small children and this is a major concern for me. I found a recall on the safety alerts that said there was a recall for this problem on the 98 Honda Passport. I took the NHTSA campaign number (021002001) called Honda customer service and they have no record of this recall. I tried the local Honda dealer and they could not find anything either. They told me there was nothing in their bulletins regarding abs. My concern is I have been having trouble with the abs, I have two small children and this has been brought to my attention yet no one can find this campaign id number 021002001 linked to my Honda Passport. If there is anything that can be done please contact me. Dt.
