24 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

While driving at highway speeds the engine died, lost power steering and power brakes (lost vacuum to booster. ) the #1 intake lifter button popped out and the cam lobe hammered the lifter and valve into the #1 cylinder causing catastrophic engine failure. Engine oil was in mid range and had ~2000k on engine oil change. No fluid mixing occurred prior to or after the incident. When valve was pushed into the cylinder it was bent, the locking up of the cam on the passenger side of the engine caused the water pump to be broken bending the idler pulley down dumping antifreeze out onto the road. 25 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1997 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 09/11/2011

Left house and proceeded downhill on gravel driveway and then turned left onto main road which is a hill rising approximately 200 feet over . 5 miles. At top of hill let off accelerator but the speed was still increasing. Tapped accelerator, pulled floor mat away from gas/break peddle area, tapped accelerator, whole time depressing break with both feet. Finally cut off ignition at approximately 55 miles per hour. I coasted the car backwards with engine off and turned it around. When I restarted car the engine was at idle and I drove it home without depressing accelerator. When I checked car at home I observed that the rubber thimble covering throttle cable at throttle was deteriorated. I pulled the rubber thimble off and observed that the rubber had entered the throttle cable housing and was the cause, jamming the cable at the accelerated speed. I cleared the cable and housing of the embedded rubber and car accelerated/decelerated normally. A precursor to this was that my gas mileage had decreased dramatically on the last fill up, Saturday, from 19mpg to less than 12mpg. I was looking for a leak and had intentions of bringing it into the repair shop on Monday (tomorrow).

27 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2001 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 11/07/2004

2001 Honda Passport exl isuzu mfg in Aug 2000. Purchased used in Nov 2004, was leased to 1 person, then at end of lease auctioned to place I bought from. Front brake pads and rotors replaced 1 month after purchase. Check engine light goes off 1 month after purchase. Exhaust flange replaced 1 month after purchase. 3 months after purchase fuel indicator goes wacky, check engine light goes off and on. 1 year after purchase engine dies, intercooler was culprit, only 76,000 miles on vehicle. Transmission was found to have a leak, the right servo rubber seal was replace. Exhuast has leak at or up to y pipe area. Something underneath is cracked severly. I am depressed, as I paid $19,000 am stuck paying $31,000 in long run through financial institute, and can't do anything with negative equity, and bad credit history. Dealership refused to fix problems when first purchased and still refuses to offer financial relief. Warranty CO. And financial institute are just as uncaring. I was made to believe it was a sturdy, long lasting vehicle, and have since found out otherwise. Oil is big problem, have to feed it half to 3/4 qt. Every 2 days. Gas consumption is poor, can only go 110 mi. Per fill up. Oil, oil filter and air filter are changed on regular basis. Shocks are the pits, takes bumps hard, and feels like it is going to break in the rear. Also known problem is the rear clunk, thump on stop and go, is caused by a item underneath that turns. Could of been killed when engine died on major highway, but was able to roll off to shoulder before ceasure. I consider major depression from this a injury.

28 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2000 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 07/25/2003

After 2-3 hours of driving engine shut down intermittently and it was impossible to get the vehicle restarted until it cooled down. The dealer and an independent shop inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate or correct the problem. They suspected the failure may be related to the fuel system.

29 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

When the Passport was purchased in may of 2002, the fuel light intermittently blinked. The problem was diagnosed by Honda cars of concord (nc) as a "fuel sending unit. " estimated cost, including labor was $500. I decided to keep track of fuel by calculating the mileage because this "wasn't a warranty problem" because I bought it "pre-owned. " that problem was minor compared to what came next. I noticed the transmission acting funny by skipping and revving hard. When I took it in for the dealership to check the transmission fluid, (because you can't do this yourself), they informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced. I couldn't believe it. This vehicle has just under 47,000 miles ! after further investigation, I see where scores of others have the identical problem around the same amount of miles. No recall ??? since the car is now valued at less than the payoff because of the transmission problem (negative equity) I am forced to pay for a vehicle that has a short life left and very little mileage. Please help me ! thank you, shannon bradshaw.

30 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

31 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 04/15/2003

I purchased a 99 Honda Passport from Mazda of knoxville located in knoxville TN. The vehicle had 49000 mi. 3 days later it started making noise in the engine, and also the fuel gauge stopped working as well as the air conditioner. I called them back, they told me to bring it back to them. They kept it a week and a half. I picked it up and brought it home. They claimed to have done 3700 dollars worth of work to it to fix it. I returned home and 2 days later and had the oil changed, the people changing my oil asked me if the vehicle had been under water before, I said I didn? know. When I had the oil changed it started making noises again. I called them back and they said the noise was nothing to worry about, it is normal so this time they offered no help. Said it was my problem. I continued to drive the vehicle and now not only is it making noise but it isn?t running right. It will not idle sometimes and other times it will idle at 4000 rpm to the point it sounds like it is going to explode. It has died on me a number of times in busy intersections and is only getting worse.

32 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 1999 Honda Passport

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

Approx 6 mo after purchase fuel gauge stopped working. Shows empty w/ blinking light at all times, and I must record mileage between fill-ups so I don't run out of gas. Haven't repaired as research shows this will cost over $600 and usually fails again. Obviously a manufacturer's problem - should be recalled.
