Unknown Or Other problem #1

Rear trailing arm fell off of the frame due to major corrosion. We had it towed to dealership for recall #10v-436. Service dept stated the entire frame was rusted through therefore they had nothing to attach the recall bracket to. This recall should be for the entire frame not just the bracket. It broke while backing out of our driveway. Thankfully we weren't doing 70 on the highway.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

I recently purchased a 1996 Honda Passport and was told "you can't go wrong with a Honda"--drove good, body good, interior immaculate, etc. A mechanic looked at it for recent repairs needed on the electrical system and I was shown the horrific rusted frame, he actually put his hand through it!!! and not just in one area, the whole frame!! unbelievable! I am a service tech that drives a vehicle, on average, 500 to 700 miles a week. Fortunately, I was not driving on the interstate at 70mph when the frame could have cost me my life--or anyone else's that could have been in my path. This is totally unacceptable. I have read many forums since recieving this information about my Passport, and it's obvious Honda is aware of the faulty steel that was used on these frames. They should compensate anyone still driving one of these morbidly unsafe vehicles and get them off the road! this is not an isolated problem. Recalls were issued on many other models and makes, however they did not include this year or make. Unbelievable!! a company that uses inferior product and is made aware of it, should step up and take care of it. As a business owner myself, I am livid that Honda does not feel responsible and we--car owners stuck with their junk--have to take a huge loss for their incompetancy. Shame on Honda!!! I will never own another one!.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

When changing the brakes I noticed a lot of surface rust when I inspected further I found two holes in frame one on the front passenger side behind the wheel and the second in the rear on the drivers side infront of the backside of the leaf spring shackle the hole in the back is as tall of the frame rail and about 10 inches long only on the outside of the frame the hole in the front is only a few inches tall and 6 inches long on the outside of frame and starting on the bottom of frame rail the vehicle is unsafe but my only means of transportation I inspect it daily to check for any disforming of the frame.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

My vehicle has had a recall and they told me it was too far gone and took it because of being unsafe to drive. They gave me a rental car and took it back before this was resolved. The dealership gave me my "unsafe" car back because I couldn't be left without a car. I am a senior citizen with a handicap. All I wanted was to have my car replaced with a comparable car, instead they want to give me a settlement check and tried to sell me a new car. I cannot afford a new vehicle or pay more for a vehicle than mine is worth. I am having a difficult time finding a replacement at the same price.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

I have a 2000 Honda Passport and I just had a recall done on it for the brackets. The brackets were installed over the rusted frame. Stage 4 repairs were done on my Passport. Its not only the frame rails that rusted away. Mileage on vehicle is 132000. I have noticed the entire frame from front to back rusting. This is a serious issue. Can and will cause an accident or death. I fear one day the while driving the frame will fall off and cause a serious injury. Little pieces from the frame fall and crumble.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

Frame has now rusted through on fake Honda Passport, actually we find out it is isuzu rodeo that has been nothing but a money pit for the last five years! excess oil usage, transmission troubles, fuel sensor erratic, brakes go out fast, and many other things. However, isuzu and Honda have known about this problem since 1998 and have been letting over 200,000 of drive around in a very unsafe vehicle! my dealer just looked at it last year and now it is stage 4 cannot be repaired and they are repairing some that shouldn't be. I have recently in vested a lot of money in a vehicle that should be declared unsafe at any speed and the owners should be compensated with treble damages by Honda and isuzu ASAP!!!!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

The frame is rusting out from the middle of the vehicle to the rear. The problem is with the frame not the brackets. The drivers side trailing arm that holds the rear axle in place fell off the frame due to frame rusting away. The rest of the vehicle is good. The frame has a problem. At 180000 miles the frame rusted out letting the coil spring mount on the drivers side separate and rest against the body floor. The frame has a problem.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

I will be driving and my car will just shut off, I also have the extended stopping problem and braking causing me to manually steer. I have also had trouble with the car not starting or starting slowly. I was told there were several recalls before I purchased the car and they were repaired - the abs was done last year but the problem continues. I would like the abs replaced. I checked your website for outstanding recalls and found. I called the dealer and was told the abs was done 2/04 but the truck continues to have the same problem - extending stopping. I have had my Passport 3 years and have only received one recall - but the problem currently exists . . . Extended stopping distance. The only recall sticker in the door is for the pedal. Additionally, I have also had a problem with the truck turning off in the middle of a turn (forcing me to manually steer my car) 98v70 (describes it completely) my truck also refuses to start properly. It starts and then shuts off - sometimes it takes up to 3 times to turn on and stay on. (sb03-03-s003 describes this as well) since I cannot determine who performed the other recalls, how can I be certain they were done or done properly? my vehicle continues to have the identical problems associated with the following recalls: NHTSA campaign # 02i002001 - service brakes, hydraulic; anti-lock (5/29/02) 98v170000 - electrical system - wiring, front underhood (7/23/98) 98v170002 - electrical system - wiring front underhood (7/23/98) 00v058000 - suspension, rear (2/29/00) 97v206002 - other (11/11/97) I have not had any accidents as a result, but I am afraid to drive with my children in the car if my car just shuts off in the middle of a turn, or on the freeway and at low speed. I have also had it accelerate while on the freeway revving the engine constantly - these have all happened for the last 3 years with no recall notices.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

8/12/2004 2000 Honda sold at apple Honda as a clean car no hits 2 days latter I found out that the car was hit there is over $4000 in repairs need to make the car desirable and or close to what I paid for it I am told they can do nothing about it by american Honda this car should not have been sold for over $140000 .

Unknown Or Other problem #10

Vehicle started making a grinding noise when turning or stopping. I was told when I brought it in for service I needed the rear differential replaced. I had the option of choosing a used part for $700 rather than a new one for $4000. Since I am short on cash, I opted for the cheaper. So no problem with that but now I need to have my manifold gaskets replaced.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

I purchased a 99 Honda Passport from Mazda of knoxville located in knoxville TN. The vehicle had 49000 mi. 3 days later it started making noise in the engine, and also the fuel gauge stopped working as well as the air conditioner. I called them back, they told me to bring it back to them. They kept it a week and a half. I picked it up and brought it home. They claimed to have done 3700 dollars worth of work to it to fix it. I returned home and 2 days later and had the oil changed, the people changing my oil asked me if the vehicle had been under water before, I said I didn? know. When I had the oil changed it started making noises again. I called them back and they said the noise was nothing to worry about, it is normal so this time they offered no help. Said it was my problem. I continued to drive the vehicle and now not only is it making noise but it isn?t running right. It will not idle sometimes and other times it will idle at 4000 rpm to the point it sounds like it is going to explode. It has died on me a number of times in busy intersections and is only getting worse.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

While driving at any speed and with no warning vehicle will jerk, and then engine light will come on and will stay on remainder of the time vehicle is being operated. Dealer notified.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

This is the third Honda I have owned, but the only one with problems. The first two had over 300,000 miles combined. . . . No problems. This really isn't even a Honda, it is an isuzu. When I purchased the car, I was told that all parts inside and out were made by Honda and that isuzu supplied only the seatbelts and the actual car frame. I have had the a/c blower replaced two times, the first time was under warranty. After the first replacement, the cd player stopped working and then the car started experiencing electrical problems. When I turned on the blinker, the a/c went out along with the auto transm. Spent over $150 plus cost of rental car and Honda said the probl. Was with the trailer hitch. I did not pay for repair. . . They wanted over $600. . . However, when the car was given back, mysteriously the cd player begain working and so did the a/c. . . Checked and they replaced the blower (although they said they didn't do anything) as soon as I picked up the car. . . No more problems during that time. A year later (no longer under warranty) the a/c blower works intermittenly, the transmission today just started to manually shift itself from 2 to 3rd gear and makes a hard clunking sound. A few months ago, it was shifting itself from drive to neutral or low and then back to drive. Also, the fuel sending unit is inoperable. . . The tank registers empty and the light flashes constantly. Heard this is a known problem for isuzu rodeos and Passports. I even work with someone who has a 99 rodeo and has the same problems, but his fuel sending unit went out while he was under warranty. The Honda dealer down here wants over $600 for repair. I feel mislead. I purchased Honda due to success on my other two Hondas. I could have saved over $10,000 and purchased an isuzu rodeo, but I thought by purchasing a Honda, I was getting a reliable SUV. I will never purchase another Honda/isuzu again. . . I have gotten no support from the Honda dealers. Too many problems with this model!.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

While driving vehicle will not accelerate higher that 40mph, engine light came on , and it had a rough idle.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

Is it possible to get an operators manual for my Honda Passport. It was 33 days later, after I brought this used SUV when the back brakes went out.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

Original problem was fuel sensor, followed by cylinders being replaced, unresolved whining noise, recall on rear suspension, and now recall on head impact protection. Car has constantly been in shop since purchase, and we have serious concerns about the overall safety and durability of this model. Local dealer has been extremely helpful in trying to resolve problems, but overall quality and safety issues have us seeking answers from you as to what steps we can take to have vehicle replaced by manufacturer.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

Many problems with Passport. Abs light stays on (bad rear sensor failure 3 times), front suspension problems (bushings are failing) problem happens 6 times, vehicle may stall while driving when clutch is depressed which causes loss of control of vehicle, fuel guage went out (dealer says it is the main computer system).

Unknown Or Other problem #19

After refueling gas on thurday, November 5, 1998: 2 minutes into trip home (10 min trip), I heard pop/explosion in left-rear. On arrival, noticed that the gas cap was hanging on the side of the vehicle - but was in place after gas refuel. On Friday, November 6, 1998: noticed that gas showed at 1/2 with only 45 miles driven after refueling (I had reset trip meter after fuel). During the course of the day, the gas gauge showed gas levels ranging from 1/2 to 3/4 - these levels would not remain constant (even when parked). Vehicle not driven Saturday and Sunday (7th and 8th) on Monday, November 9, 1998: vehicle exhibited similar problems as stated for Friday, November 6, 1998 (see above). On Tuesday, November 10, 1998 (yesterday): vehicle exhibited similar problems as stated for Friday, November 6, 1998.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

This letter is to complain about the lack of service I recently received when speaking to a customer service representative. I purchased my Passport in August of 1998. Since it was purchased, my rear beverage holder failed to stay closed. The dealer stated that, ?it is just the way it was designed. The strike plate seems to fail to make proper contact with the magnet. On numerous occasions, my three-year old daughter has tripped upon this beverage holder. Last year, my fuel gauge started to work intermittently, not reading full when full, dropping to empty when the tank was full, and finally, not moving off of empty. As a matter of fact, I brought my car into my local dealer to have my air conditioning system checked and the technician mentioned to me that he couldn?t take my car for as long of a test drive as intended because my tank was empty. I told the technician ahead of time that the fuel gauge didn?t work. I came across two Honda technical service bulletins that cover these problems. The first, bulletin 98-027 was issued on may 11, 1999 and covers all 1998 Passports. It describes the symptom that I am experiencing one or both of the magnetic latches do not hold the rear beverage holder closed. In addition, it describes the corrective action as replacing the rear console cover. If discovered during the warranty period, the bulletin allows the repair to be made for free. If discovered outside of warranty, the bulletin requires the district service manager or zone office to give consideration before work is to begin. The second, technical service bulletin 99-004, was issued on September 14, 1999 and covers cars through VIN number 4s6c. 58w. W4424533. My VIN number is 4s6ck58w6w4424526.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

When driving at 25 mph the engine check light came on and stayed on, and the air conditioner went out and was blowing out hot air. Check engine light is still coming on. Dealer replaced the gas cape, and the consumer was having problem with the exhaust system. Vehicle has been in the shop six times, and the dealer fixed everything. Consumer just got the vehicle out as of 11-05-98, and the accelerator pedal broke while the consumer was driving, and a metal piece was hanging down. The consumer used the metal part to drive when the accelerator pad broke.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

Vehicle flew through the air like a plane landing on two cars killing four people.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

Engine check light comes on and stays on while driving . Dealer contacted three times and remedied the problem, but the problem still exists. Also a rattle noise occurs while driving at any speed. Also, replaced emission control system.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Check engine light stays on. ,dealer has replaced sensors, but defect is still occurring, dealer cannot determine defect.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

At speeds around 50 mph and above, vehicle has a persistent shimmy (vibration) in the steering wheel. Honda dealer says it is the tires, tire dealer says the tires are ok. Dealer kept the vehicle all day, and the problem was about 90 percent better. But the shimmy came back within a month. Have talked to Honda's customer service people, they claim no knoweldge of it. But the internet is full of reports of the shimmy on early production vehicles (like mine). I seem to have exhausted all other avenues, so I am now filing this report( dot number: ).

Unknown Or Other problem #26

Engine check light came on/off. Also, radiator leakage/replaced horn.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

There is a sequence of illumination of the abs, gear shifter ,and engine warning light. Which indicates a problem. Cause unknown.
