The cmbs alerts braking despite there being no obstacles in front or around the vehicle. Also, the at stop lights when the engine shuts off, on several occasions the car has completely turned off and will not let you do anything (place in park or drive) until you manually start it again.

While driving and pressing on gas the car started beeping and started to brake. There was no obstruction in front of me to cause this. The break flashing signal didn’t come on. It just beeped and started to brake and then stopped.

The contact owns a 2026 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brakes were independently activated briefly, with the message “brake” displayed. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,637.
Concerns with the brake master cylinder and brake booster. Bolts not torqued enough during manufacturing. I had an independent inspection completed on 6/4/25. Technician determined the bolts were not torqued properly. Concern is my brakes could fail causing fatal crash.

On 11 Apr 2025, I was driving my 2023 Honda Passport at night on a toll road in clear weather when my infant son began screaming in distress. I pulled over onto the shoulder, partially onto a dirt area with bushes for more space. I pressed the “park” button, unbuckled my seatbelt, and opened the driver door to step out. As I did, the vehicle suddenly began rolling forward despite being in park with the door open and the seatbelt off. I fell trying to exit and had to roll away from the vehicle as it continued moving. A passenger jumped into the front seat and stopped it. This wasn’t a lurch or slight movement the car rolled enough to put me in danger. It behaved as if it were in neutral, not park. I later tested the same conditions (engine running, door open, seatbelt off), and the vehicle auto-shifted to park as designed. This confirms the safety feature failed in that moment. No warning lights, alerts, or error messages appeared before or during the incident. I reported the issue to Honda and asked the dealer to inspect the transmission and interlock systems. No faults or diagnostic codes were found. The service advisor said park can take a second to engage, but the movement I experienced was excessive and unsafe. This is a serious safety concern, especially with children in the car. I’ve also seen other reports of similar issues in Passport and pilot forums. I have manageable scrapes and a joint effusion in my knee.

The vehicle infotainment system froze. Several minutes later after driving, I pressed the brakes but they did not function. The vehicle would not stop and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. Emergency braking did not engage or otherwise show signs of activation. After turning off the car and dealing with the accident, I restarted the vehicle and the brakes and infotainment system operated normally.
This afternoon traveling home from our 5 year olds swim class, turning into our neighborhood at appropriate speed and braking. Shortly after I turned in, my Passport jerked, dinged, locked the steering and then was ok. No error lights came on but was very scary. Too many recalls with this vehicle.
We are currently experiencing very cold weather in my area. I have a Honda Passport that uses a camera for its braking, lkas, acc, and other features. During extreme cold, the camera shorts out causing safety systems to fail. Others report the same issue on Honda cars: [xxx] no accident or injury resulted - merely trying to avoid a future safety issue information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Rotors went bad with less than 250 miles on new car. Per american Honda rotors are not defective, because dealership didn't day were defective; therefore, not covered under warranty, considered wear and tear. Dealership initially stated the cause of the rotors going bad was that I was hard braking and riding the brakes; however, first, I'd only had the car about 3 months and second, I contacted the dealership a few days after I bought the car and informed them of the problem. Next, dealership said the rotors were bad because my aftermarket floor mats were resting on the brake; however, the mats were put there two days before. The 2024 Honda Passport rotors are defective. At the very least the rotors in the one I purchased are dedective.

Breaking and steering wheel malfunction causing accident on December 20th 2024. Car is currently still at dealership for investigation. My safety was at risk, causing injury to shoulder. Not sure if problem has been reproduced, not confirmed by dealership as of yet. Police reported, insurance company only fix damage, then vehicle was towed back to dealership for inspection, after being repaired in a different shop. Was called back by dealership to have additional inspection done and was told that my car was going to be refurbished. Issues started once my car had hit 10,000 miles, after my first vehicle maintenance expectation. Received multiple systems warning lights, information dealership multiple times and nothing was done until after the accident still have no car til this day 5/14/25.
The automatic braking system will activate at various times shaking the wheel and applying the brakes. This happens when there is nothing in front of the vehicle.
On Nov 9, 2024 I was pulling into a parking spot in a public parking garage, after turning 2 tight corners to approach the parking spot. About half way into the parking spot, the car suddenly lurched and accelerated and I crashed into a 90 degree concrete corner wall! it happened so fast, without any warning sounds or abs brakes deploying. The entire front passenger corner of my car was badly damaged. Luckily I was not injured, nor were there any other vehicles or persons involved. It is just not possible that I could have personally pulled into a parking spot at such a high speed as to cause such extreme damage to the vehicle! I drove the vehicle to a body shop on 11/11/24, which was one recommended by my insurance company. The vehicle was inspected by the body shop, which was directly in contact with my insurance company. I did ask the shop to make sure the mechanic checked for any safety issues during repair, as I was concerned as to the cause of the accident. I have an impeccable driving record and I cannot explain how such an accident could happen! I had no issues with the car previously. Upon further inspection into the damage, on 1/3/25 it was finally evaluated as a total loss, as there was damage to the frame and other issues! I did receive a statement on 1/3/25 from the body shop that there was a "fault in the system, causing gas pedal lock, which might be cause of accident". I felt I had to report this possible issue that resulted in a total loss and obviously could have injured myself, others or other vehicles!.
Emergency braking system activated for no apparent reason. Traveling at freeway speeds on a straight section of freeway when braking system briefly activated. There were no other vehicles or obstructions within 200yrds that might have triggered this. Had someone else been driving or if we had been in rain or snow conditions the outcome might have been different. Vehicle was approx 3 days old when this happened and brought back to the dealer to check. They could not reproduce. There were no prior symptoms or warning lamps.
The automatic emergency braking system engages in times when it is not appropriate to do so. The vehicle will flash the “brake” warning light on the dashboard, will shake the steering wheel, apply light braking, and in a few instances has applied hard braking. We have been unable to determine a specific trigger for this issue. The vehicle will engage this feature on strait roads with no other vehicles or obstructions on the road. It has happened during both rainy and sunny conditions. The vehicle has also exhibited this behavior when going up and down hills both with and without other vehicles present. The vehicle will do this sometimes when other vehicles enter our lane at a safe distance and at low speeds, at or below 30 mph. The vehicle has also done this at highway speeds of 55+ mph both with and without other vehicles or obstructions in the roadway. We have experienced this while driving curvy roads both with vehicles passing in the opposite lane of traffic and when no other vehicles are present. The feature appears to randomly engage at all speeds between 15+ mph to 70+ mph with or without vehicles on the roadway. It also doesn’t appear to matter if a vehicle is in our lane, an adjacent lane, or the opposite lane of traffic. This issue was identified and has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased in October 2023. The issue happens at least 1 time most days the vehicle is driven but can range between 1 time and 3+ times each day. The vehicle is driven consistently 30+ miles each day with occasional trips of 300-500 miles in a single day. The other issue we have noticed is the rear cross traffic warning. We have noticed something’s this will engage when no other traffic or obstacles are present. We have also observed this feature failing to engage when a vehicle or obstacle is present. This issue does not happen often but has been observed enough that is has come to my attention as a potential issue.
I purchased this vehicle from a dealership 1 week ago. Prior to receiving the vehicle it had been serviced by the dealership and had passed inspection. The vehicle is a 2021 with low miles and appeared to be in very good condition with no appreciable rust, corrosion or wear. Since purchase, I have driven the vehicle about 160 miles on my daily commute. I did have issues with one of the automatic systems, but will submit that as a separate report as I do not believe it is related to this issue. Tonight I was driving home from work on a hilly, curved two-lane road and came upon a vehicle parked across the opposite lane and slightly into my lane. I was traveling at about 45 mph and pressed on the brakes suddenly but with reasonable force in order to slow to pass with caution. I immediately felt loss of brake pressure and did not stop as expected. I continued on at the same speed and passed very close to the rear of the stopped vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to swerve to avoid a collision. Once the brake pedal was pressed completely to the floor, the vehicle began to decelerate gradually as I continued down the hill. No warning lights or alerts came on at that point. At the bottom of the hill, I turned onto a flat quiet road to drive slowly and assess the situation. I determined that the brakes were compromised and that most pressure had been lost. I parked the vehicle and about 15 minutes later turned it off and back on and numerous warning systems came on saying that the brake fluid was low and other steering and traction control systems were compromised. I got out of the vehicle and brake fluid was pooled on the ground by the rear tire on the driver's side. When the roadside assistance person arrived we confirmed the leak by putting more brake fluid in, which gushed out onto the ground when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was transported by flatbed to a repair shop. There was no warning prior to this incident and no emergency system alert until well after.
The automatic emergency brake system will randomly activate despite there being nothing in the way, no car in front, and no obstruction. It causes the car to slam on the brakes for no reason which I’m afraid will cause someone to hit me from behind.
The brake and tmps ights came on for no reason while driving. I pulled over to the side of the road in fear of my safety. I restarted the car to see if they would clear but unfortunately they did not. The manifold and gasket were leaking. The vehicle has been misfiring.
The vehicle has made multiple abrupt emergency brake activations in non-emergyncy situations. Nearly causing a crash multiple times. It's my opinion this system is severely flawed and extremely dangerous - not only to me but anyone around me. Shame on Honda for allowing this system to drive on our roads.
Driving on 684 in new york state and the car started to break and no objects or cars in front of us. Dash-broad light came on and it said break. Traveling doing 70 mph and car went to 50 or so in seconds. This goes on about once a week in different areas.
I have encountered two types of brake issues: 1) my vehicle seems to flash brake occasionally when oncoming vehicles pass by for no reason - they are not entering my lane or doing anything that should cause the message to flash. The vehicle type does not seem to matter - they have been old and new models, and have been both cars and trucks. My vehicle has only visually warned, but does not engage brakes, so no further safety issue is involved. It has done it frequently on some days and then none for awhile. We have tried to make note of vehicle type and model for consistency, but have not found any. 2) if my vehicle has its cruise control on (which is often) and a vehicle in front of me moves into a left-turn lane to turn - often with plenty of notice - my vehicle will engage it’s brakes and slow down even though there is no danger of hitting the other vehicle. So long as I take it out of cruise control, it will continue on driving. I suspect that if cruise control is not disengaged, it could fully brake and cause a bigger issue of an injury or accident.
The Passport flashes brake and steering wheel shakes for no reason. I’ll be driving down the road nothing near and it does this. A few times it’s actually applied the brakes. Thank goodness no one was behind me as it potentially could have caused an accident. This occurs daily. Especially if I am driving on a 2 lane road.
On Sunday April 14 while driving on the lie middle lane a person driving at a high speed went from right side across to left lane in front of me when all of a sudden the brakes activated itself and my car nearly came to a stop nearly causing a car behind me to rear end me. This happened several times before while driving approaching vehicles in front scaring my family and I. Now my cmbs lights are permanently on on the dash. This system is nerve racking and will cause a severe fatal crash. Many people on several platforms are complaining about the same or similar issues. And understand an investigation has begun. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. I have owned my 2021 Honda Passport since November of 2023. With 19k miles.
The collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) comes on randomly with no vehicles or obstructions in front of it.
No warning messages on dashboard. The drivers side mirror goes off like there's something there but there's nothing. Same with the braking display light comes on when I'm no where near anything, yet I've had cars pull out in front of me thankful no crash has happened because it doesn't go off then. I plan to take it into the dealership soon. I can't give an estimate of how long exactly it's been doing this. Especially side mirror warning. That's been going on. The braking thing has probably been a month now.
When driving the auto breaking is applied. The warning system flashes on the dash and the breaks are applied, there are no cars around me at the time. The system will also activate at times when going around a curve and a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction.
Under many normal driving conditions, the front collision brake system activates. This has almost caused a collision as it shakes the wheel and applies the brakes.
My Honda Passport will trigger false forward collision alarms randomly, and for no reason. No obstructions are visible most of the time recently! as the brake warning appears, the steering wheel vibrates and a quick braking jabs causing panic as if the brakes are fully engaged then it releases. This happens for no apparent reason. It is very distracting and if the brakes do apply very quickly, serious injury and damage can occur. This has happened multiple multiple 10+ times. Now until recently l was usually in a construction zone near a ?? barrier or orange hivis barrel by or passing over thick lane markings on the pavement. So l assumed system was over sensitive but never during those incidents was my vehicle was directly in front (head-on) nor did l veer into the direction barrel/barrier.
In February of 2024 my 2022 Honda Passport wouldn't let me reverse out of my sloped driveway. I realized the emergency brake must be frozen and sure enough as soon as it hit 33f I was able to release the brake and drive the vehicle. I figured just a little water got into the cable in the rear. In January of 2025 I found myself with the same problem with another frozen brake. I took it into the Honda dealership and after a week they found out there was a leak in the body seam that let water under the driver's seat and froze the emergency brake cables. According to the mechanic, this was either the result of a major collision or a defect. Since the vehicle hasn't been in a collision, this is a concerning defect that Honda has so far refused to cover, including the damage to the soaked carpet. Both times, I had driven for 3-8 hours in pouring rain on the highway. Unacceptable for a 2- year old vehicle to have this issue.
Shortly after our purchase we started having issues with the vehicle, the backup camera is not functioning, the backup sensors are not functioning, the collision mitigation is braking abruptly while we are driving even when there are no objects in the surrounding area nearly causing us two accidents, our dashboard display has no function and the display flashes off and on. My nephew suffers from epilepsy, and he is unable to commute in my vehicle because the flashing colorful display lights trigger epileptic episodes. My partner has driven the vehicle when the vehicle’s braking system is abruptly initiated, the first time his chest was slammed into the steering wheel of the vehicle and the second time his head was slammed into the sun visor. I have taken my vehicle in several times because the car breaks abruptly while driving. The last time I took it in I injured my left arm and shoulder when the vehicle abruptly stopped, and my partner was slammed into the steering wheel while driving to work on the freeway. We had another incident where my partner's head was slammed into the sun visor. When I took my vehicle in, I was told there was there were no error codes then shortly after I received a notification regarding a recall for the issue I was having. We completed the recall, and we are still having the same issue. Yesterday 02/08/24 when I was driving home from work my car abruptly stopped/braked in the rain with no cars in front or to the side of me and I banged my knee on the side of the center counsel. While driving the vehicle will either brake or stall and will not accelerate while driving regardless of whether we are on the street or the freeway. This issue has become dangerous, and I would like to resolve this as soon as possible to avoid further injury to my partner and myself. There have been multiple incidents since the purchase of our vehicle on 01/24/23, all service repair attempts have been completed through norm reeves Honda west covina.
This has happened 7 times since I have owned the car (purchased April 2023). On regular asphalt roads in clear daytime weather with no cars in front of me (and usually no cars behind), the emergency braking system goes nuts and slams on the brakes and the wheel starts shaking. The roads have never been wet, and there has never been debris or other objects around; I live in a semi-rural area with no curbs, guardrails or other close peripheral objects that could confuse the system. It's bad enough that the front rotors became warped and I had to replace them or deal with rumbling brakes. It also almost caused an accident the one time there was someone behind me, as they almost rear-ended my vehicle. Fortunately, that driver was paying attention. I would take the vehicle back if it didn't have 11k miles on it already. Having your vehicle suddenly stop completely out of your control on the highway is going to get someone killed. Hopefully not me!.
While at a stoplight with traffic behind me, my Honda quit and couldn't be moved out of road, or restarted for service. No warning on dashboard or lights to let me know what problem was. It went through every error in the system! I had to call police to block traffic and call a wrecker to come tow me to autozone for a replacement battery. It was the wrecker service that advised it was not the first time he had seen this happen. My car is only 3 years old and did not give a warning, it just stopped in traffic putting me and others in danger. I had unnecessary cost and repairs that should never had to be made. The local police had to use resources that took time away from them as well. This was on a busy Saturday afternoon on a well traveled road. This is not in the best interest of the public! now I have to take time off work to have it looked at with dealer. All this could have been avoided if this technology was not put on the vehicle. I expect better from Honda! my next vehicle will be something without all this unnecessary technology that puts people in danger!.
I have had 4 instances of driving on the highway that my vehicle applied the brakes automatically. My safety was put at risk because in those instances I was driving at highway speeds and the brakes were applied on their own with no obstruction in front of me. Someone could have rear ended me. I am not able to reproduce the problem on command, but it has occurred multiple times. The car has not been inspected for this issue. The only warning I received was the alert that gets triggered when the brakes apply automatically. I do recall that in 3 of the 4 times the incident has occurred, my right turn signal was applied.
The contact owned a 2023 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, there was a loud booming sound coming from the passenger’s side front of the vehicle nearby the wheel. The contact lost control of the vehicle, and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately. The contact coasted to the side of the road where the vehicle eventually came to a stop. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the caliper bolt had detached causing the caliber to fall onto the wheel from the caliper mount. The dealer stated that the bolt was not initially installed correctly during the manufacturing of the vehicle. The vehicle was grounded. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage 8,500.
When the Passport is in cruise control I have been driving up a very steep mountain and have had the car slam on brakes with no indication to the cars behind me or me intially causing everyone to come to a halt going up a mountain with a 9% incline. I realize you can adjust the distance but it still gives no warning and it is not as if you are tailo the car in front. I turn in my subdivision daily and if I let off the gas which I have to I the neighborhood and not have to break at five or ten mph something underneath feels as if it is catching like a bike break too close it scrubs. The final thing. I have started the car remotely many times. I have done it twice in parking lots and it has jumped forward . Had someone been in from of the car standing it jumped hard enough to hit someone. Or it the car facing mine had been closer it would have hit that car as well. Thank you.
Electrical malfunction along w/braking systems. Electrical malfunction, caused braking failure. Collision avoided by driver. Call not switched over due to being connected w/electrical circuit in braking system. This occurred within 30 days of buying vehicle. Emergency brake, & braking, not working causing vehicle to role backwards while parked in flat garage. Tailgate not closing properly. Causing loud noises and banging sound while driving. Driver has read manual & confirmed that it is not closing correctly. It would not let me close through any method in car manual. All of these things are connected electronically & or through the electrical system. The computer system that controls the electrical panel of braking, navigation, calls, radio, etc, & recall says braking system assembled incorrectly, causing electronics failure throughout vehicle & communications systems. Less than 30 days after purchase, want lemon law in effect. Recall was not disclosed to me prior to purchase! extremely dangerous! I purchased this 6/6/23, with approximately 1-10 miles on it.
