First new car in my life and I’m 70. When we bought the car, within a week the entire dash board lit up with warnings. Call the dealer, they towed it to their shop and “calibrated” the collision mitigation front facing camera. This service was completed but within the next 2 years, the situation repeated itself over and over but would always go away. The last time the system failed (with all of the bells and whistles) I went back to Honda and they informed me a replacement was required. $1500 later the front facing multipurpose camera was replaced. The car’s 3 year warranty expired 2 months before the needed replacement. The dealer told me that these cameras have been a significant problem, and are replaced often. The replacement camera has a different part number from what was installed on the car when built. This indicates that Honda knows of this problem, and has upgraded the camera but left it to the owners to replace if it is out of warranty (even 2 months). As a retired degreed engineer, I think this is a significant safety issue…. . To have all of the alarms activate while sitting in the drivers seat.

Owned the 2021 Honda Passport for 4 years and have had multiple issues over that time. 1st. Electrical issues. Randomly while driving the center/head unit will continuously restart on a loop until vehicle is turned off and turned back on. 2nd. The speakers make crackling noises randomly while driving. Even when the audio/speakers are turned off the crackling continues. (very loud and annoying) 3rd. The Passport sometimes shuts off completely when stopped at red lights and has difficultly turning back on / restarting. This showed an error that there was a battery issue, which the battery had just been replaced a month or two earlier. It said something about being in accessory mode. 4th. The sensor that tracks oncoming traffic goes off sporadically. There are times on single lane roads that the car forces the breaks on because it senses cars on the other side. 5th. There has been issues while accelerating that feel like the car is having trouble shifting. It continues to rev but not go, when letting off the gas it almost feels like its doing an engine break to get back down to a certain rpm or something. Had the whole car bouncing, had to pull over and turn off the car to get it to start working properly. *** all of that said, this car has been and continues to feel unsafe to drive for multiple reasons listed above. I'd be more than happy to go into more detail for them if needed. ***.
The forward-facing mulitpurpose camera has failed on numerous occasions. This causes failures adaptive cruise control (acc), collision mitigation system, auto high-beam, road departure mitigation, and lane keeping assist. There are numerous incidents of the same failure across most Honda models for the same issue, documented in various forums.
I have had several incidents where my car does not restart after auto-idling at a stop light. When there is a delay in restarting, a warning flashes briefly that there is an issue with the collision mitigation system. On some occasions, it fails to restart completely and I have to turn off the car, open the door to reset everything, then close the door to restart the car. I have had it inspected by Honda several times and was most recently told it needed a software update, but it has continued to happen since the software update.

Ever since I purchased this vehicle in April of 2024, I've noticed that the forward collision mitigation system seems to see and respond to things which aren't in front of the vehicle. It seems like this system is watching the lane to the left of my vehicle, more than the lane which I am in, which causes the over-reactions, (but also means that the adaptive cruise control is less reliable about slowing when traffic ahead of me, in my lane, slows. ) this has only rarely resulted in brake activation. Generally, it's just the warning which comes up on the screen. This happens most times I drive it, and I just live with it. I have had it into the local Honda dealer (ken garff Honda downtown) to be checked out, and they say it's fine.
We are currently experiencing very cold weather in my area. I have a Honda Passport that uses a camera for its braking, lkas, acc, and other features. During extreme cold, the camera shorts out causing safety systems to fail. Others report the same issue on Honda cars: [xxx] no accident or injury resulted - merely trying to avoid a future safety issue information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Driving on 684 in new york state and the car started to break and no objects or cars in front of us. Dash-broad light came on and it said break. Traveling doing 70 mph and car went to 50 or so in seconds. This goes on about once a week in different areas.
My 2019 Honda Passport with VIN# ending with**********2184. A safety recall of a faulty fuel pump was dangerous to drive. The faulty pump recalled from Honda NHTSA warned drivers that are at risk of crashes and accidents. The increased risk of property damage as well. I was exhausted trying to get a loaner car from my dealership that I have all of my routine maintenance is performed. The fuel pump failure from December 2023 as of today still unavailable. On 6/15/2024 I loss control of my 2019 Honda Passport. The rapid acceleration and rapidly stalling the vehicle etc loss of power and control. I hit a tractor trailer hitch destroying my vehicle completely. My injuries are still extremely problematic mental and physically. I was arrested for dui which put the blame of me being intoxicated or driving on drugs. I was not taken to a hospital but to jail. I requested to seek treatment in the jail clinic. I was released without a bond. The cops wanted my consent for blood to determine my alleged dui. August 7th 2024 I received a letter stating that my blood was negative and rescinded of suspension allowing me to drive. I can’t drive with seatbelt sign injuries neck, spine trauma to degenerative spine exacerbation. No car no job unable to be my elderly mothers care taker. My mental health has become significantly worse ever in my entire life. A faulty fuel pump and a false dui arrest are daunting on a daily basis. I have also contemplated suicide. I am financially crippled. So I don’t understand if I was cleared as the cause of the accident. I was already warned about and Honda knew that without a dui case. Hondas safety recall of the faulty fuel pump. The indicators were a red flag but my Honda dealership just told me to just pray everything I have to drive my vehicle dates 2/22 2024 —-3/14/24 4/24 and other miscellaneous dates every time frustrating. The inspection of the faulty fuel pump was explained on the recall. After the collision nothing left to check.
The emergency collision system constantly actives when there is no need for it to activate. It’s more of a safety hazard. I have just under 40 years of driving experience, former mechanic, and police officer for over 20 years. My professional opinion is, Honda needs to correct this problem. Thanks.
On Sunday April 14 while driving on the lie middle lane a person driving at a high speed went from right side across to left lane in front of me when all of a sudden the brakes activated itself and my car nearly came to a stop nearly causing a car behind me to rear end me. This happened several times before while driving approaching vehicles in front scaring my family and I. Now my cmbs lights are permanently on on the dash. This system is nerve racking and will cause a severe fatal crash. Many people on several platforms are complaining about the same or similar issues. And understand an investigation has begun. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. I have owned my 2021 Honda Passport since November of 2023. With 19k miles.
On this day it was approximately 5:45am my 2023 Honda Passport indicated to brake in the dash then proceeded to snatch me into a curb at 50 mph. I have since taken it back to the dealership where they can not diagnose the problem. I have contacted Honda corp. Which they haven't been able to help. The dealership stated that they could not preform an alignment as my frame or suspension may be damaged or bent.

I’ve had several incidents where my vehicle has forced me to a screeching hault when not needed. Most recently it did, and I was almost rear ended by a large uhaul truck while my baby was in the backseat. This is extremely dangerous. This anti-collision system activates while on turns and when nothing else is happening around the vehicle. This is a safety feature that makes the vehicle more unsafe.
My Honda Passport will trigger false forward collision alarms randomly, and for no reason. No obstructions are visible most of the time recently! as the brake warning appears, the steering wheel vibrates and a quick braking jabs causing panic as if the brakes are fully engaged then it releases. This happens for no apparent reason. It is very distracting and if the brakes do apply very quickly, serious injury and damage can occur. This has happened multiple multiple 10+ times. Now until recently l was usually in a construction zone near a ?? barrier or orange hivis barrel by or passing over thick lane markings on the pavement. So l assumed system was over sensitive but never during those incidents was my vehicle was directly in front (head-on) nor did l veer into the direction barrel/barrier.
The sensors simply don’t work. Cmbs system constantly raises warnings, often alarming me as a driver, almost creating accidents. On one occasion, coming into a turning lane of intersection with green arrow and cars moving forward into left turn, cmbs actually applied the brakes for about 1 second, alarming me and causing the driver behind me to react as well. There’s no permanent disabling of this feature, which is a mistake by mfg, and we often forget to turn off starting each drive. Blind spot is often throwing false alarms. Lane detection too, but we permanently turn off lane detection.
Started my vehicle and drove about a mile before my brake system lights came on. They were sporadically coming on , but now it's a continuous issue. I would like to know is there some kind of recall on vehicles that are experiencing issues with the acc, colision mitigation system, brake system, lkas, auto high beam, and road departure mitigation lights staying on . I only have 28,000 miles on my 2019 Passport elite. So it's no longer un warranty. I see that a number of people on the Honda forums are experiencing the same issues. As a loyal Honda owner, I must say I've had more issues and recalls with this one. Too many for an almost $50,000 vehicle.
The forward collition mitigation system is constantly braking on its own for no apparent reason. It happens a lot when going around a slight right turn and it interprets cars coming the opposite direction in the other lane as a trigger to start braking. It is a very dangerous situation each time, so I turn off that feature every time I start driving now to avoid it.
Car will at times not start and require to be jump started. Battery has been replaced and the issue persist. The car will randomly say collision warning when no cars are on the road.
I was traveling on a visible highway, no weather conditions and my vehicle snatched me into the other lane almost striking the vehicle next to me. I waited to see if it would happen again and then my aeb started just randomly slamming on breaks when vehicles in the oncoming lane were approaching. I contacted my local Honda dealership (walsh Honda, macon, GA) they inspected the vehicle and found no issues. The advisor stated this issue has been reported before and there is nothing they can do because the system "is not a human and cant detect if the car is in another lane just the sensor bouncing off of the other car". I have since had more issues with the lkas snatching me in and out of my lane and the aeb partially slamming on the breaks for no reason. I have had multiple cars and never experienced this with any other brands safety systems except the 2 Honda's I have owned.
This has happened 7 times since I have owned the car (purchased April 2023). On regular asphalt roads in clear daytime weather with no cars in front of me (and usually no cars behind), the emergency braking system goes nuts and slams on the brakes and the wheel starts shaking. The roads have never been wet, and there has never been debris or other objects around; I live in a semi-rural area with no curbs, guardrails or other close peripheral objects that could confuse the system. It's bad enough that the front rotors became warped and I had to replace them or deal with rumbling brakes. It also almost caused an accident the one time there was someone behind me, as they almost rear-ended my vehicle. Fortunately, that driver was paying attention. I would take the vehicle back if it didn't have 11k miles on it already. Having your vehicle suddenly stop completely out of your control on the highway is going to get someone killed. Hopefully not me!.
The forward colision warning comes on for no reason and brakes are getting applied for no reason. Very dangerous and can cause a rear end crash.
While driving on one lane each way roads, my automatic emergency breaking would trigger on cars going in the opposite direction. This generally just had the breaking notification trigger and beep at me, but had ~ 12 incidents where my car would auto-break for cars going the other way, including an instance where the car behind me had to swerve around me to prevent an accident. I spent ~ 30 days working with my dealership on repairs, which included replacing all of the front-facing sensors and replacing all of the front facing cameras, but that did not 100% solve the issue. While driving recently, there are still incidents of the auto-breaking triggering on cars in different lanes or going in other directions.
The vehicle constantly activates the collision warning system any time on a 2 lane road and a car approaches the opposite way. The steering wheel shakes and flashes the brake on dash. Not only is it annoying it is dangerous because it catches you off guard nearly cause accidents. I’ve had in for service one dealer said it was bugs on the camera and another told me they would only look at it if I paid $200. 00 the vehicle is still under warranty.
We drove about 100 miles yesterday. It all happened. False brake light flash and brake applied because of oncoming traffic. Heavy brake application because of car in the left lane making a turn. Can't tell you how many times I've almost been rear ended, and people blasting their horns at me because this foolish car slams on the brakes for no reason. People think I'm brake checking them. Had 2 Hyundai before this, never encountered this. Honda needs to be forced to fix these issues. There are hundreds of similar complaints in online forum about this problem. This has happened many times, especially on an extended trip, like yesterday, over 100 miles round trip. Dealers do not have a fix for this. Honda needs to be forced to address this and fix all problem vehicles.
On my way to work I was on the highway and five warning lights came on out of no where. All five warnings were the safety assist systems had problems. I drove to the Honda dealership and found out it was my microchip for my Honda, the main microchip for all of the safety and system controls were dead/bad and that it would need to be replace. I was told by the service manager that without the micro chip the vehicle would no longer be drivable as it controls power steering system, brakes system, lane departures, etc. If I would have ignored those warning lights, all of those systems all systems would have failed putting my life at risk and others in their vehicles as well . My vehicle was bought with 3 miles on the speedometer and was only 2 years old at the time of this occurrence.
Twice I had all kinds of safety alerts were scrolling on may 2nd ans August 7th. . First it was a fluid leak and cable. Second there was a piece of metal in the brakes. Abs sensor full of grease. Now sometimes brakes is flashing for no reason (like going uphill) and if I need to brake at a higher speed on the freeway, the brakes make a sound of pots and pans rattling. As I have no confidence in the brakes, I tried downshifting but the car speeds up. From time to time the car speeds up or slows down without any reason as I am not using cruise control. Forward collision warning does not work properly, in fact collision mitigation system is not fiable. I get a warning sign for the back seats when there is nobody and nothing on the seats. Everything is very irregular.
Driving 65mph on 3 lane highway in l=far left lane in light snow with anti-collision on. Then instantly car auto braked, car slowed dramatically very fast and despite me stepping on gas pedal, car continued at a crawl on major highway. Fortunately no car was close behind or it would have hot me with such rapid decent. I moved to the right shoulder across 3 lanes and car continued to be unresponsive to gas pedal. Honda stated that front camera must have been covered and thus system operated correctly. They did say gas should have responded when I turned the wheel, but it did not. Honda said it won't respond to gas pedal, but this is very dangerous and takes control from driver. The system should be a help but never take control when driver directs otherwise. Had there been more and closer traffic, an accident would have been likely.
Forward collision warning alert (brake) warning triggers frequently when opposing traffic is present. Sometimes the brakes apply that has led to several near miss collisions from being rear ended. The blind spot warning false triggers during wet conditions. Both of these items are distracting and first is dangerous. The two different dealers I have contacted are aware of these issues and have stated that Honda has no solution. One of the dealers said they could check/adjust the radar for $270 but may not fix the problem.
Our 2021 Honda Passport ex-l sometimes hits the brakes on its own. It happens every now and then, like when I'm exiting a freeway, or sometimes even when going with the flow of traffic. I've seen this issue talked about in the Passportforum. Com, but today I saw an official article citing NHTSA concerns, so I'm writing to say that I too have experienced this potential dangerous issue while on road. My vehicle randomly brake checks on its own when it falsely detects the situation in front of me, which could result in a rear end collision. I'd like to see this issue resolved, so please feel free to contact me if you need any more information. Even back in 2022, I was experiencing this issue. This has happened occasionally. The last time was about a few weeks ago on the freeway. Please see the forum screenshot for my reference-- I'm "tombox" in that thread. . Read more...
When driving at any speed vehicle computers (system and entertainment) loose communication and malfunction, causing loss of display and function. This loss of communication causes a loud crackling & popping noise to be generated by the system through the vehicle speakers. This problem persist while driving until the vehicle is stopped, turned off and door opened. Research on Honda internet forums has revealed thousands of postings from owners with the same and similar problems. I have taken this vehicle to Honda service more than 3 times. Each time was told a manufacturing defect in wiring harness of the most system is the cause. Each repair has been unsuccessful in permanently correcting the defect. This problem, being random and tied to rough terrain or road bumps can happen at anytime. When this happens it is a major distraction. When system error many warnings are flashes and various vehicle features stop functioning. This affect drive system, safety system and entertainment system. It is unknown if safety systems would function when this problem is actively happening. This is the scary part of it. I have given Honda every opportunity to fix the problem. They tell me it is not a recall but is covered under an "extended service period" due to this known issue. I have seen many technical service bulletins pertaining to this issue. This needs to be elevated to a recall. I do have videos of this malfunction.
Vehicle has led headlights. In snowy conditions at night, buildup on headlights caused extremely reduced visibility. Required frequent pulling over, getting out of vehicle, and clearing headlights. Not a safe situation in the snow. Never had problems with halogen or hid lighting so I suspect it’s a heat issue due to led lights operating much cooler. Also, snow buildup on grille emblem that houses radar for accident avoidance causes system failure which results in instrument display of failure. The warning box completely covers the speedometer so you have no idea of your speed. Also not good in snowy conditions. This can be turned off, but not while moving, and defeats the purpose of the avoidance system.
Vehicle intermittently applies front collision system braking on curves and on highway. It is vary unsafe and have almost been rear ended multiple times due to front collisions system engaging and applying brakes. Vehicle front collision system applies brakes randomly and with no vehicles or obstacles in site. This happens during various speeds anywhere from 30- 50mph in city and 60-75mph on highways. ( car is unpredictable and unsafe).
My collision mitigation braking system activates when there is no reason to do so. I took it to my dealer and they said it is because there is dirt on the car logo that is in front of the radar so they cleaned it. It was not dirty in my opinion. When I dove it again with a very clean logo the system flashed break again and shook the steering wheel. I know I can turn this “feature” off by pressing a button on the dash board but I have to do that every time I start the car - it malfunctions regularly. In addition to be inconvenient it is distracting and dangerous do deal with when driving if I forget to turn it off. If I loan my car to someone it is embarrassing and difficult to explain to them how to handle it.
Forward collision warning (fcw): at random intervals, the fcw will give a false positive warning of an imminent collision with a car approaching from the opposite direction. This has occurred at various times over the past 2+ years. Comments to this effect to the Honda service representatives have indicated that this anomaly has been reported previously. They have not provided a fix or software update to correct this issue. The event is a safety issue because of the distraction from focusing on the road ahead. Although the automatic braking system has not been employed, the driver may in response to the false warning apply the brakes and cause an accident inadvertently.
Very frequent false warnings for collision braking system. Bushes, road signs, roundabouts, oncoming traffic, etc. Will false trigger the system. Many owners reporting false warnings or braking but no fix. Distracting and dangerous when it happens. Once the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason due to a car turning off the roadway far ahead at low speeds. The system is distracting and could in some circumstances apply brakes when no reasonable threat is present. Careful driver who leaves distance, and I now disable this supposed safety system to be safer from it.
